ebecode: Why are some ppl complainig dat Yorubas want oda ppl to speak their language self? I remember when i was doing my NYSC in AKWA ''ABASI'' IBOM STATE.One fateful night lyk dat,i was in d dark waitin for my girl BOKIME,all of a sudden an old man appeared with one shining big cutlass & stated shouting ''ATU UKE''.If not 4 my little knowledge of IBIBIO language which i took a grt personal pain 2 lean, only God knows what wld av happened. If happen to travel to IMO STATE 2mao,i wil gladly lean IGBO.So if u want 2 live in oda ppl territory & u don't wanna lean their lang. Then b ready 4 all d dangers dat comes wit it.GOD BLESS NAIRALANDERS!Thank you !!! you know people can be a bit too sentimental that they start acting stu.pid at times. I imgine myself going to Ogun and not learning yoruba, then one night Oro comes, would I not be an easy target to be killed ? One thing I make sure is when I go to any new environment, I try my very better to mix up, learn the language and costumes of the people, lastly, say out of trouble. It seems like others don't think like that. Some Nigerians are reta.rds |
Bini people and juju even their oba sef na correct oracle.
what is the difference between them and yoruba ? Please answer |
MRbrownJAY: bro, you are missing the point COMPLETELY.......it doesnt matter how/who/what/where or why he did what he did. the issue is that she claimed HE DID IT, and the police came to arrest him. now, he should have comply with the police and go and settle the matter at the police station. THEY ARE THE LAW and if they come and arrest you, you have to abide by their laws, and FOLLOW THEM. who is he that he wanted to go against the local laws? anywhere in the world, he would have been roughed up or tazed before sent to the station, but ONE THING is sure, he would have been arrested.true!! |
strangerf: ^^^Balogun oo !!!! strangerf ![]() |
Bliss4Lyfe: ^^ Nothing wrong with the idea in the long-run if industries capable of making them busy are set up in the various regional parts of the southeast. i.e world class university in Enugu to attract students from other parts of Africa and the world.etcWho told you about lagos don't want etc, You take Nairaland too serious I tell you. |
Onlytruth: alj_harem, you claim you are educated and you know Nigeria well, but when you ask certain questions, you come off as goofy.Stop it Eze, yes Anambra has potentials but having 3 international airport in an area of some few square miles is outrageous to say the very least. If South east separate from the Nation, 3 is still too much. A complete waste of funds that could be used for something better. Have 1 international airport in the important State like Anambra, then the money for the remaining 2 could be used to build a very effective transport system (whichever train, bus, tram etc). the remaining change could even be used to support local industries and universities to be able to provide the necessary working professionals a healthy nation would need. The sound of 3 international airports all at once is ridiculous and you know it. |
MRbrownJAY: even if she wasnt a stranger, the fact that this man's approach was to show his dikc, clearly confirms that he (or anyone that uses this approach) is mentally unstable.LOL @ Mentally unstableHow are we sure the woman did not request to see it ? Lets be real here, women set men up everyday with their mix messages. A woman that does not want a man knows how to say it loud and clear. From the story, it was clear the man was NOT about the rape the woman because if he was, he would gone for it without showing anything off or even kissing. She must have given him something for him to go ahead to show his private part. I am sure she was not a stranger. No man would go meet a stranger and show his private part and even kiss. |
udogati: When a woman says NO, it should mean absolutely and only that. No matter what "mixed signals" you think she is sending out, intimate relations must only be pursued with full agreement and consent from your partner. If you have to show your private part to get her interested, not only is this sexual harassment, the man who does this has absolutely no self dignity. What if she does not say anything (neither yes or no) and she pulls you closer to herself ? ![]() You people are funny o ! BTW, would you ask a woman " Do you want to be intimate with me answer yes or no ?" The mood dies after that. Of course you watch her response and use your sense of judgement. |
Bliss4Lyfe: Very true. Public Private partnership surely is the future of all such venture. The idea is very good and practical in the long term. You support the 3 airport as well ? LOL |
MRbrownJAY: dont mix oranges and apples:How do you know the woman is a stranger ? I can assure you that no Nigerian in his sane mind would show off his private part to any woman unless he knows the woman somehow and SHE has been giving him mixed messages |
Keep making my case for me jare
![]() |
Teedol: I don't want to be tribalistic, but I just can't help it. Why is it always our Ibo brothers? One thing I notice about d influx of Nigerians in Malaysia is that most of them are uneducated Nigerians who wouldn't mind doing anything to make money. Few weeks ago a Nigerian(Igbo) was executed for drug trafficking.dude you have already tribalised the issue. Malaysia is full of hausa and yorubas too. Most people (someone i know) went their for Islamic finance. etc People do go to Indonisa etc although mostly Muslims. So it is not about Igbo here but about Nigeria as a nation. Malysia government does not care if he is igbo or hausa, fact !!! |
Andre Uweh: @Alh Harem, I can't believe that you travelled to Port Harcourt to learn Ijaw, in a City where Igbo is more spoken than Ijaw. It is like saying you travelled to Ilorin to learn Nupe while Yoruba is more widely spoken in Ilorin.I added ETC, it was not only Ijaw I learn in port harcourt, Yes Igbo and even Ogoni (Khana etc). I was using that as an example. |
Thank You!!!! These men need to be trained to understand that No means NO. . .not maybe or later or I'll think about it. . . It simply means NO!!! Gosh! How supposedly grown, well educated men have trouble understanding a two letter word is beyond me. If it isn't condemned and chucked up to boys being boys or the other many ways that diminishes the sexual abusive aspects of their behavior (read Alj. Harem's post for example).. . What are they doing if not condoning it?
Sisi Kill, you have started again o !!! So because he showed his private part, it means the woman said NO !!! Women give mix messages all the time and you know about it. |
bakila: It is unfortunate that he was killed that way. Even if he is in hias country and behaves so crudely I am sure in he would recieve beating. It is sad and unfortunate.I suppose, |
nice ![]() |
Theblessed: Well, as you can see in this case, he failed to do his homework and did not consult his History Book properly before opening up his gab therefore, irrespective of who he is and what he stand for - we take his confirmation this time, at face value - worthless!can you shut up already, how can one man opinion be an object of argument that is driving you mad ? a nwere afo osisa gi ? |
While on many occasions you've shown yourself to be a genuinely nice guy thats balanced sometimes, you have also exhibited a terrifying obsession with Igbo. Its like Igbo is always lurking in the alley waiting to attack anything good in Yorubaland (I'm not even sure you're Yoruba). If any body says anything contrary to the opinion of Yorubas - Oh! it must be Igbo. Man that kind of stinks! I'm Igbo, do you think I spend my nights worrying about Yoruba? You honestly believe that? The first 2 Nigerians I worked with when I newly came here are Yorubas and we both knew each other's secrets and we're cool so what makes you think we're seeking to destroy Yoruba or we feel inferior to any human is beyond me. Go bact to Nigerian History right from the arrival of the Brits, does anything show we feel inferior in our culture? In fact you need to read what the brits said about Igbo. If anything its the opposite. Brits hated us because we will never succumb to their whimps. Do you know most of my ancestors got themselves drowned in American rivers rather than serve another man? Go read the slave history and tell me who the slave masters sold higher than others. If you must know, Igboman's will is cast in iron, but if you keep fooling yourself with this inferiority complex bull then you will wake up one day to realize how much you lied to yourself. This message is almost like the message I sent ndu_chuks on his consistent victory speech "we won the war, we won the war" but from the looks of things in Nigeria it doesnt look like he won anything. alj Harem, you do need to throw away this "Igbo is envious, Igbo feels inferior" because we dont. We're a people that threw away Kings and queens because we dont like taking orders from no man - our history is your guide. If you dig deeper in our history you will find that our culture makes us competitive even amongst each other - you need me to remind you why the Brits shipped Jaja of Opobo away? Guess what- its because he out-competed the brits and they would never have any of it hence they got rid of him. So, if you ever think we're jealous of any man think again. There's a huge difference between trying to win and being jealous, we're success driven to no end, it doesnt matter if we start late or early we believe we can make it- sometimes we do sometimes we dont but thats Igbo for you. I respect every race in Nigeria but I dont get jealous of them one bit. I wont even swap places with them even in 1970 when they "won" their war. So, bro this is Naija where every one is highly opinionated. Thinking someone some where is jealous of you or envious of you is bull. No body in Nigeria will swap places with anyone - the earlier you realize that the better.
I am sorry Nwannem, what do you want me to think ? when most onye Igbo dere ajo ife ndi yoruba. a haram i di mma, a haram na m agaghi alu ogu. but ndigbo nairaland are not making it easy. Again I expect a topic like this to be laughed at and people should move on, What I hate is trying to undermine the yorubas. It is annoying, I believe yorubas don't do the same so I do not expect Nairaland Igbos to do that !!! Trying to paint them bad just because a foreign said something about their language makes us look like ideeiots because it is too petty to be an issue of rivalry between yoruba and igbo. Mazi Sam, just because you are a sane Igbo on nairaland does not mean others are not mad. ihe nile e zughi oke ndi yoruba na ndi igbo but. As for me and my YORUBA Brothers would say ndu ebighi ebi. meaning life is endless |
pistol: My heartfelt condolence to the guys family here in nigeria.Nigerians need to restrain themselves when they are in another man's landSo because he is in another man's land, he should not make advances to a woman ? |
Na wa o !!! So just because he showed his private part, they then decided to beat him to death just like that. I really hope they arrest those RELA members. RIP Nwankwo. |
What is hell is wrong with Yoruba being the most popular African Language ? People shout Hausa but Hausa starts and stop in Africa People shout Swahili but that starts and stops in Southern Africa Yoruba language does not start and stop in west africa, How many times are we going to say this !!!! Some ideeiots are even talking of Igbo but Unlike Igbos, yorubas don't make noise about being widely travelled neither are they in any competition with anyone. So with is the problem here ? Tomorrow if Jimmy Wales says Ijaw or something else, We should all congratulate them and move on not trying to paint a bad picture of them because you feel they are better than you. I mean what is wrong with Nigerians !!!!! Are we that daf.t and envious at each other over petty silly issues like Language ? Which should be be something we all are meant to laugh about and move on ? How does this change the price of garri in the market ? Abegi people really really need to stop this silly annoying behaviour. |
Kingsleyinfo: I wonder how people think? You see my friend, all I see you just as many Igbos on this thread exhibiting envy. Now I am a yoruba man and I have learnt almost all the Nigerian languages and their individual dialects to even a group as small of just 10,000 people. I have also travelled to various parts of the country. Now I am telling this to show you that I am not ignorant at all. I ask, why should you question people from learning your langauge. It is daf.t really !!! If You traval to france, do you not learn french ? If you travel to England, do you not learn English ? What makes Yoruba or hausa or Igbo any different ? I travelled to Anambra once, and I learn Igbo I travelled to port harcourt and learn Ijaw etc so why is your own any different. Also I am sure NO YORUBA MAN WOULD FORCE YOU TO LEARN HIS LANGAUGE, it is completely you choice. Just as you cannot force a horse to drink water, I am sure you were never forced !!!!!! You went to Ogun and you are proud to be saying English is the offical langauge like a mor.on. Have you learn the langauge in your enivornment first ? If you get lost, would english langauge or the langauge in your enivornment save your life ? Your case just as so many Igbos on this thread is PURE INFERIORITY COMPLEX and envy. |
I don't see why the US will want to distabilize Nigeria! For one thing they have a complete puppet in Nigeria(from leadership/elite to people). They also use our influence indirectly to help settle there issues in Africa. The oil flows in the direction of ther liking and we all suck up to them. The problem we have is not along superpower lines. Is in Africa, mainly within Nigeria.Definately as black and Nigerian as can be. The CIA influence works in keep releveance and tackling external treats to USA.So OP where have we gone wrong in that?We love US,We want to visit US,We love being US like and hell yes we even emulate there style of almost every social setting. That said there influence don pass welcome. The issue of treats we have are still not organized and lack any focus on them.So they are not in anyway worried about our little struggle for control over indigenious issues.Anytime we got leadership or who is who. They go west to sign register and collect guidelines to ensure the west is priority on the list of demands to be met.For now the west/USA is not having issues with us.They may only be worried where an all out war could happen.Cutting off oil supplies and bring humanitarian crisis/spread of violence in ECOWAS/Africa. So what else?COAS,CDS and co report directly to the USA our security and internal issues. How then do we say we are not loyal to the bone?
Nah haka nai I think I share the same sentiment the OP has. I would suspect, if Nigeria is divided and the south-south region is Isolated alone it would be easier for them to drill their oil knowing full well it is less mouth to bribe and also if they try anything they can just start a civil war in the south south South south contain, over 50 ethnic groups, which Ijaw, Urhobo, Bini and Itsekiri being the majority. It would be very very easy to start an oil war in that country Again they can sell their old discarded weapon to the militant fractions for blocks of oil and protection. summary It is easier to milk south-south on it's own than milking the whole Nigeria because of the majority tribes |
alj harem again Na wa o !!!! |
.....damn it!'lord of little things',so surprise how yorubas are jumping into this forum, just for myopic reasons!that a co-founder of wikipedia made an unguided statement, some people are already putting up an Owambe to celebrate it.how does this affect the price of garri in Onitsha main market!when even the heart of the so called yoruba land'Lagos'is under trait by hausa-fulani Jihadist!
Chill, haba |
mkmyers45: You might be wrong...Hausa has a large of descendants tooQuite correct, The people of west africa either learn mostly Hausa or Yoruba. But in terms of africa yes Hausa is more spoken but in world terms Yoruba and spoken well as well. As many posters have already said, yoruba does not end in Africa but also to south america and Caribbean Islands. Just like English does not just end in England of French does not just end in France. Same goes to yoruba, dutch etc So yes the claim might not be far from the truth |
Seun: @egift: I like your theme better than the current one. Pls sent me the HTML and CSS codes. No !!!!!! Go back to the Gold and blue combination. It was good. What is with the red anyway ? |

The deputy governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Nsima Ekere, has described education as catalyst for development. Mr Ekere, who spoke while representing Governor Godswill Akpabio at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the West African University of Science and Technology, at Ita Uruan, on Wednesday, said education determined, to a large extent, one’s attainment in life and health and even had implications on the people’s security and economy. He said it was in realisation of the cardinal role of education that the Akpabio-led administration declared free and compulsory education up to secondary school level, which tripled school enrolment in the state within two years of the implementation of the programme. The deputy governor expressed delight that the proposed university keyed into the education policy of the administration and predicted that the university, as conceived and planned, would turn out to be one of the best in the country. The chairman of the Board of Trustees of the university, Professor Bassey Ndon, said the university was aimed at promoting educational development of the West African sub-region and Africa as a whole, through human capacity building, qualitative education, research and improvement of systems. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/38487-education-catalyst-for-development-aibom-dep-gov |
