And the funny thing is all these countries have heavy investments in Nigeria!! Worth billions!! By right they should be treating Nigerians like ROYALTY at their airports, and in their countries. But you can't really blame them. It's all these previous regimes we've had in the past that didn't care a hoot about defending Nigerian dignity.

Now we don shine eye well well. No more dulling.  cool cool

at his very WORST again. Nairaland have come to know your treacherous ways.  Why are you so obsessed with igbo's?  Why are you so afraid of a unified Biafra?

Yoroooba people won't mind their business. Busy body all the time. Why do you stock lack integrity? Na wa ooo. Hypertension go kill una oooo.

Go and tell Okonjo Iweala and the likes of her that she is not igbo and does not hail originally from Delta state and see if you will come back here with your hands intact. She was even a cook in the biafra army. Having grown up with delta igbo's, I can't tell of any difference between me and them. We are brothers and will defend them anytime any day.

Even wikipedia emphasized it. What don't you Yoruba Idioto's and Ewu Hausa's don't get about it?

Biafra lives on. Haters go and HANG!!!

A lot posters are being myopic here - and most are posting comments based on tribal sentiments. We all need to look at the bigger picture here. We need the best people Nigeria can has to take over from the PDP cabal in 2015.

Let's take a look the available candidates from each zone:

- SE Okorocha (A newbie and not really tested - just never ending promises).
- SW Fashola (Tested)
- N El Rufai (Tested)
- SS Jonathan (Incompetent and clueless)
- MB David Mark (Part of the PDP cabal and highly corrupt)

The best Nigeria can offer for 2015 is a Fashola/El Rufai ticket - with ethnic sentiments aside. I'd vote for an El Rufai over Jonathan and David Mark. If the South South can put someone like Rotimi Amaechi forward for 2015 instead of Jonathan, then I'll gladly vote for him - but that won't happen.

As for my Ndigbo brothers, the truth is that, there is no Igbo politician right now worth voting for.

reading things like this really makes me angry.

Once again MR President has demostrated that he has no plan to provide constant electricity for Nigerians unless through oil companies.

Mr President, one question

What if the oil finishes today and the oil companies then go back, are we going to go back to darkness ?

Moreover Mr president, what happens to others like in Benue, Kwara etc how do you intend to provide electricty for them remembering they don't have oil companies on their land as well ?
PoliticsPresidency Orders Chevron To Provide Electricity To Delta Oil Communities by aljharem(op): 11:23pm On Mar 06, 2012
By Emma ARUBI

WARRI—THE Presidency has ordered Chevron Nigeria Limited to provide stable and sustainable power supply from the Escravos Tank Farm to oil-rich Ugborodo and Gbaramatu communities in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State as part of its corporate social responsibility.

The directive was given in Abuja, after a marathon meeting with stakeholders at the Presidency. The meeting was presided over by Vice-President Namadi Sambo.

Present at the meeting were Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and some Gbaramatu youth leaders as well as representatives of Chevron.

The Ijaw/Itsekiri youth leadership also agreed that with this, work on the multi-million naira Escravos-GaS pipeline project being executed by Fenog Nigeria Limited, which was stopped by the aggrieved communities, would resume immediately.

It was gathered that Chevron has over 90 megawatts of power output of which only 40 megawatts is currently in use and the balance is kept in reserve while her immediate host communities of Ugborodo and Gbaramatu wallow in darkness.

By Etop EKANEM

LAGOS – President of the South-South Youth Council, Lagos State, Mr. Tomzine Benedict, has called on oil multinationals operating in the Niger Delta region to relocate their corporate headquarters to their areas of operation.

Speaking to newsmen in Lagos, Benedict said that with their offices in Lagos and Abuja, Niger Delta youths had not benefited in terms of employment.

He contended that if there were no infrastructure on ground to absorb youths being trained in different skills through the amnesty training programme, the essence of the training would be defeated.

Benedict said: “Are they being trained to become useful citizens in the society or they are trained to go back to the creeks to resume hostage-taking and vandalisation of oil facilities?

“If there are no infrastructure to absorb them after their training, they will definitely go back to the creeks.”
He also called on President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure that the benefits of the amnesty training programme go round all the ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta region.

Benedict, who made the call against the backdrop of protest by some ethnic nationalities over alleged exclusion from the programme, said all youths from the region participated actively in the struggle and so none should be excluded from the amnesty training scheme for the ex-freedom fighters.

What is middle-belt again?
The middle-belt region is defined as a region comprises of Yoruba, Idoma, Fulani, Hausa, Igala, Tiv etc.

@ OP

It is too early to say,

1. I as a yorubaman would tell you that I would not vote based on tribalism, Let the best candidate win

2. The SW is an outcast zone and those that must dine with the devil must use a long spoon. Just putting Fashola would grantee the SW vote. Fact !!!!

3. I doubt if the North and the SW would come together but lets be watching

4. Northerners would not just vote for any northerner because he is hausa or he idoma, we vote based on track record and developmental records of the person.

5. Asari made GEJ the Igbo/Ijaw president forgetting the other 150 million Nigerians.

6. If the SE chose David Mark then it shows that this country is doomed to fail because David mark has no track record.

One thing is certain, The middle belt is NOT with the SS/SE but only those that delude themselves.

Once SS/SE pick david mark, they would lose and this time it would be bad for all Nigerian. SW would not be neutral because those that pick based on tribalism would just make everyone suffer another 8 years for nothing

Meanwhile, things can still change.

i am not suprised by Fashola's action.this is a governor that is only muslim by name.he frequents with his christian wife churches and their orphanages more than he does with mosques and islamic centers,if any exist.ever since he became a governor what can he claim to have done for his own religion and its institutions? i'm not aware of any.take a place like the lekki-epe expressway for instance;you could probably count more churches lining the highway than businesses.how many mosques are visible from the highway? i think only two or at most three!Lagos state yoruba indigenes are more muslims than christians even though you find more churches than christians in Lagos, figuratively.let those who are not please to hear this know that well, regardless if they like it or not.we know churches are more or less market places for money making and scamming the poor masses under religious tales and fantasies.when i heard of the churches that were shut because of noise pollution,i sensed a funny action against mosques or muslims could be taken to strike a "balance".

i do not support the building of mosques or any place of worship illegally (which in itself is islamically haram) or on land that is not acquired rightfully for the purpose of worship.however, there is nothing to be pleased with this action itself.at least substitutes should be provided.most of these make-shift mosques are put in place because there are not enough mosques in Lagos to cater to the needs of practicing muslims.you just need to see how mosques are over-full on fridays.worshippers most times spread their mats outside the mosque and even into the streets.this isn't fair.
Yes you are correct but trying to turn this into some sort of anti-Muslim issue is not the right way to go about it. Yes I am a Proud Muslim as well and so is Fashola and even an indigene of Lagos state.

If he demolish the Churches, Christians would say the samething you are saying if not worse. Trying to question his faith because of his "economic" policies he made is a very wrong way of doing things. Allah searches all, if he did it in good faith, then so be it.

Reallyhuh By any count the Niger Delta states are doing better off than any of the Northern states by a long shot. (oil revenues or not)
While revenues might be only about 4 times higher, Economic activity in the Niger Delta is much more than ten times that in the North.
Interestingly, there is more wastefulness in the impoverished north by its leaders than there is wastefulness in the stinkingly rich Niger Delta(in comparison to the North)
I've been in the north and in the Niger Delta, the poverty and disease in the North should be some of the worst in Africa. Niger Delta on the other hand has some of the highest per capita income in all of Africa.

My point in a nutshell is simple. The thieving of resources is a nationwide phenomenom but is worse off in the North. So stop pointing fingers as though that is an exclusive preserve of Niger Delta leaders.
Of the six key Niger Delta Governors, 4 can stand out as outstanding performers- Amaechi, Imoke, Oshiomole, Akpabio. Even Uduaghan has done a good job when juxtaposed side by side most of the Northern governors.

Enough of this insult – Reps, MEND

S-South deserves apology for the insult — Osula

Hon Arigbe Osula asserted in an interview: “Decades of irreparable damages done to the Niger-Delta region by years of gross neglect by the military, whose leadership were mostly Northerners cannot be compensated for by a few years of marginally improved revenue represented by just 13 per cent revenue derivation.”

He continued: “What the Nigerian state has done to this region is a criminal destruction of unimaginable proportion, which will continue to have infinite consequences on all imaginable lives.

“In the face of the absolute tragedy which oil and gas discovery and exploration have been to the people of the oil and gas producing area, it is deeply disturbing to note the contention of the Northern Governors questioning of the meager and sorry current revenue derivation formula which is very insulting to the people of the region compare to the disastrous consequences it has foisted on them.

“It is even more painful when you compare this formula with historical antecedent of past formulae used when groundnut and cocoa were our major sources of revenue without the attendant adverse effect of oil exploration in the name of national revenue generation.”
It really really annoys me when people support their leader because they are from their zone or tribe. There is nothing more iddiotic than that.

Please beg GEJ to declear SNC now that it is still hot, those that fight against SNC are the enemies of progress

Nigeria would be divided into 5 zones with boundaries adjusted.

Interesting

Nigeria is developing but at a very very veryyyyy slow rate. Take for example within 10 years aka a decade in Nigeria, we have developed the following

1. Multinational banking sector, Grantee trust bank, Oceanic etc

2. Multinational telecommunication, Globacom etc

3. Mulitnational digital tv- Hitv

4. Mulitnational stations - Ait, Silverbird

5. top 10 tallest buildings in Africa of which Nigeria would hold 4-5

6. An indigenous car manufacturing company- Innoson cars

7. The largest market in West africa - Onitsha

8. The largest oil company and indeed mulitnational indigenous oil company - Onado

9. Movie and cinema centre of africa and 2nd largest in the world - Nollywood

@OP my brother, we are getting there, slowly but surely

The FG just approved Innoson cars and plan to patronize them. Lets give Innoson another 8-15 years, I believe it should be at par with ford etc maybe not toyota but we would get their wink

One of the problems I have with Yoruba is their attempt to eat their cake and have it. Yoruba claimed they saw Europeans half a century before Ndigbo had a handshake with the visitors. Yet one of the sons of Yoruba has the audacity to spew Igbo took advantage of uneducated Yoruba when, in fact, Yoruba had UPE.  How did Igbo or Zik take adavantage of Yoruba land and its products when Lagos, Ibadan, Tv, Stadium, Ogbomosho, Ota etc were developed by cocoa fund under the watchful eyes of one of the Nigerians tribal icon in name of Obafami Awolowo?

I remembered vividly the government that imprisoned Awolowo and later created Mid-western region out of old western region was Tafawa Balewa’s government. According to Commodore Wey, who was a Yoruba, Major Gen Everatt and IGP Edet, who was Efik, informed Zik that he, Zik, did not have constitutional powers to deploy a team of riot police. I deduce it is a fallacy born out of idiocy to accuse Zik of Awolowo’s imprisonment and division of western region.

I can not join you into the slippery path of idiocy and propagation of absolute falsehood with respect to comment about Lt Col Francis Fajuiyi’s agreeing to die with Ironsi. It is only in the fo.ol’s world that coup plotters had ears to listen and then give options to a target.
First of all you started your spelling of yoruba as Yoruba, can I spell igbo as ibo without saying we hate you or we don't show you respect then start calling us ndi ofe manu ?

You see one lesson you must have in this life is the act of humility, that sir you lack. Unlike you we yorubas don't take Europeans to such high regards like that because we do not have inferiority complex. Infact go read some of the books during the colonization of Africa, they described yorubas as a people that think the like an english man (no that we care, just saying) and back in those days we did not view them as anything special.

We have members in our society would happen to be return slaves from Brazil and we all are still level headed because we view each other as equals. Do you know of tapa people ? it shows our mentality and our view towards life.

Now concerning the western region, if not for God that use Awolowo and Enahoro in yoruba/itsekiri, western ijaw and edo people's life where would the west have been today ?

Zik was a tribalist who played on the mind set of the yorubas back then who were more or less laid back forgetting that Nigeria is a jungle founded on tribalism. Do you know that after Zik won the election in Lagos and did his appointments, that was when we finally woke up from our slumber but it was already too late.

We taught we were equals with Igbos but we realised fast that they don't see us that way.

Tafawa was the prime minister while Zik was the president. Who had more power, a prime minister or a president ? Infact this leads me to the question, where were the yorubas in Zik government ? if you care to answer ?

Ok now let me give you a brief history. Zik had 12 ministers and only 1 was yoruba and he was the minister of Labour (in his whole administration), the minister of labour can be liken to the minister of FCT today or transport, what power do they have ?. Secondly we had 2 Universities in the west back then which were University of Ibadan and University of Lagos, the 2 VCs were Igbos thanks to Zik appointment now the 2 VC employed Igbo lectures and out of 112 lectures, 109 were Igbos and 3 were yorubas. Where were in yorubas in the west you asked ? Yes the political powers were arrested by this same Zik and his cohort.

Efik and indeed the minorities of the east were nice and did not do anything because they did not have any power, thus what are you saying ?

Fajuyi did not do it for Ironsi alone but because he believed that Igbos and yorubas could be allies. Apparently Ojukwu then decided to invade the mid-west and west, committing crimes against humanity.

You have to admit your folly if you have understanding.

This site is interesting. There are certain things i am learning in this NL . I came to this site with an open mind to actually get authentic gists of the happenings in the Nigeria as i am residing abroad but to my greatest chargrin/disappointment the threads are full of tribal bigotry especially the yorubas picking/casting aspersions on igbos even over petty issues that do not warrant  sarcastic comments.

Now i beginning to understand that yorubas have more issues with the North than the igbos and yet the keep mute about them. This is unbelievable. This issue of North taking yoruba lands is not a small matter . With this unfolding and the yorubas sweeping it under the carpet ; i will request them as from henceforth to cease making any derogatory comments about igbos as the have more issues to settle with the north currently. I am learning a lot from this site.

I wonder why we in the South cannot come together and form a formidable force that will put the North where they belong. Hatred being exhibitted by both sdes espcaially the hatred yorubas have over igbos is totally absurd given that those days before the civil war , there existed a good relationship among both tribes as evidenced by Ojukwu's released of Awo from prison before the war etc
The more I read this site, Vanguard etc the more I understand the Igbos. That is why I dislike most of them. The first time I read vanguard website, I was in utter shock that these same Igbos can speak ill of yorubas until then I hit Nairaland than I found out the true feeling of the Igboman.

The hate Igbos have for yorubas is not cannot even be described as Hate but untold envy of which an average Nairalander yoruba does not still understand where it came from.

Ojukwu did not do anything for Awolowo neither did he do anything for the yorubas, if any, he killed us more with his Baifra army.

Way before the war, Igbos were looking at the injustice placed on the largely uneducated yorubas back in those days, rather than address it if you were actually our brother as you claim after the war, you and your northern brothers leached on to it. From our resources, to land etc Infact Nnamdi took it a step further by stealling our political freedom, divided the west, 19 days later imprisoned Awolowo.

Yes it all happened and your forefathers supported it and infact made him a ceremonal president without even an election since he has imprisoned him best friend Awolowo.

Even though Awolowo strongly fought for southern Nigeria, Igbos fought for One Nigeria and you see were it landed you all. Rather than face your Northern friends, you then decided to bring the fight to the west to further kill us. Rubbish

Even at the eve of the war, Fajuyi had to die for the silly Ironsi (igbo) to show how much we were betrayed but of course you saw nothing wrong in what was happening to the yorubas back then, they were just uneducated, tribal marked Yoruba people.

You Igbos have ruled Nigeria and have your destiny in your own hands, whether you like yorubas or not, it has nothing taken anything for anybody. Just leave us out any of your plan, we have learnt the bitter lesson of life and we were the first to learn that learn.

Do you politics as you wish, if you need Yoruba help, we might and we might not, depending on how demanding the favour is, same goes to you, help us if you can and don't if your can't.

Until then, continue your tribalistic hate.
