Beaf: alj boko haram, the parasite who is happy to hear that Shell assassinates Nigerians, yet is unwilling to to partner our development. What more can be expected of a man who eats grass? I don't usually say this on Nairaland but in all honesty, I feel deeply sorry for those that have been believing the crap you have been feeding them which inculde me because as soon as GEJ was the president, I trusted him to deliver. YES I am happy right now because 1. I have been vindicated 2. It has exposed your ignorance for the world to see. there is an adage that says " when a tree is about to be fall, it is only an adult that knows the direction of the fall" From the one set, I knew the end result and I fought hard for Nigerians to realise the facts on ground but as usual you blinded them with tribalism trying to exclude the North promising the middlebelt and the south heave and earth The Middle belt and the Yoruba/edo/Itsekiri quickly realised the folly in argument and choose to stand on their own. The you resulted to SS/SE and of course my Igbo brothers here on NL that always feel the need to be wanted were glad to go for it even though the arguement made no logical sense, they prefered it. Nigeria has no bargaining power for something they do not produce or produce in very small quantities. If we had at least one or two refinery that produces 70 % of our crude product, then we can bargain knowing full well that they would be at the losing end if they do not go our way. Shell and indeed other companies knew that Nigeria has no bargaining power that is why they NEVER take us serious. Ok GSM pay as you go started with MTN at a rate of 50-100 Naira per minute. As soon as Glo came, there was competition aand this drove the rate down to as low as 20 naira per minute + we have our own indigenous company + employment + development + more competition That is an open market. Unlike the silly theories you put here on NL daily making gulluble minds believe the crap. what a shame |

Beaf: Hello parasite. The above is the exact sound of a parasite. Mr Man, ani't you the parasite here ? How can you tell a company to build your refinery for you after they have already paid you ? The plan you were telling us about during the fuel subsidy was that deregulation would bring about companies building refinery. That is what you told us and that was whate GEJ told us forgetting that he has not put Nigeria in the position to dictate. |

manny4life: Why should Shell build refineries for you? They are only there for the raw material, not to process the finished goods. It's like someone saying why isn't Mars Corporation or Hershey Foods, the two large giants of chocolate, why aren't they building Cocoa refinery in Nigeria or even Africa, that's not their problem. They will help in the planting, quality check, export their share, but for the finished goods, that's where they move it to the U.S.
Shell shouldn't have to nor is it obligated to build refinery for Nigeria and Nigerians, however, if Nigeria decides to add a clause to their contract, worst case, Shell can go into an arrangement with a Nigerian company to do so or exit the market for those who are willing to (we obviously know they won't). There's nothing worng with building refineries, I think that Nigerian Govt isn't sincere to itself. There are turnkey models out there, ready in less than a year, government can sponsor groups who are will to do this. Thank you, |

When it was time to kill Saro Wiwa, they didn't make any excuses. Shut up, what has Saro wiwa got to do with the government doing her Job ? If you are not a government agent, why not explain to us as you did doing the protest how removing the subsidy would translate to building of refineries by private multinational companies ? texazzpete: Depressingly, topics like this just goes to show how daft many people on Nairaland really are. How can anyone in his right mind be exhorting the Federal government to compel tax-paying multinational oil companies (who are already under contractual agreements, pay hefty taxes and invest billions of dollars in Oil and gas exploration and production) to enter a loss making venture like refining?
Why is it beyond many Nigerians to carry out a simple research? Even with the internet at their fingertips, many people here have been so spoiled by years of copying handouts verbatim that they cannot even run a simple Google search to verify information received. A few minutes of googling would show you that not only Shell but most of all the other multinational companies are seriously divesting their refineries and selling them off to interested parties. And that's refineries in sane climes, not to mention this country where nothing works.
I shouted this same thing during the fuel subsidy debates. The Government told you dolts clear lies and people ate it up without question. Refineries are typically a low profit margin business. There's a reason why most of the oil companies are selling off most of their refineries. Read this
http://www.gtforum.com/gtf/research/2122391/refinery-divestments-story
Here's a quote from the article.
The IEA stated in its Oil Market Report, released October 12: “In the OECD, refinery consolidation continued apace, with refineries accounting for close to 1mbpd of primary distillation capacity completing or announcing extended shutdowns or refinery sales in September. “Refinery margins deteriorated further last month, and were on average negative for 18 out of the 26 configurations surveyed.”
What this clearly says is that of 26 refineries surveyed, 18 were LOSING MONEY! Shell, Mobil, Chevron et al are publicly traded companies and they owe it to their shareholders to maximise profit. Why should they now venture into refining in Nigeria? Why should they be forced to?
Anyone telling you that there will be a mad rush for private refineries is lying to you. Use your brains! kokoA: It is not Shell's responsibility to build a refinery for us. Stop blaming our laziness on foreigners. RESOUNDING YES SIR !!!! God bless you two. |

Aigbofa: Not only Shell, I think Nigeria should look closely at companies like Cargill, Archer Daniels, etc. Companies that are only interested in taking raw materials from Nigeria at dirt cheap prices without giving anything back. Nigeria should be NOT BE in this position at the first place. Nigeria should be the one negiociating not begging a company to build etc We own our resources not Shell Let us control our resources, market price etc by building OUR OWN REFINARY AND HAVE AN INDIGENOUS OIL COMPANY that takes care of that Shell, Chevorn, Aramco, etc are now private. Why can't we have Onado for Nigeria. Why must foreign companies dictate our market to us rather than ourselves. When GSM came out it was 50-100 naira per min thansk to MTN but not it is as low as 20 naira per min even with inflation thanks to GLO Why can't we do the same for Onado for crying out loud Nigeria is not really in the position to negiociate good deals I tell you |

agabaI23: What has this got to do with fresh air?
@topic I think these guys should be kicked out of Nigeria seriously. What a lame excuse? This is in line Europe's raw material initiative agenda which will ensure that raw materials are never refined in Africa while discouraging increase in export tax.
This was one of the reasons France insisted that Gbagbo should leave because he wanted to ensure the processing of cocoa in Ivory Coast.
Having said that, they will not succeed without collaborators. These are the people who have stifled the passage of the PIB. Occupy shell and national assembly. It has alot to do with fresh air because we predicted this and Nigeria is not in the position to kick anyone out I laugh at you people, kick shell out because of what they did not build a refinary for you, Heck ! it is not shell duty to build a refinary for a country. NO WAY If you own an oil company, would you build a refinary outside your country or in your country. profit margin is to much. |

during the fuel protest, this is what i warned against but bigotry has blinded most people that did not protest.
Where are thos Ideeiots that said deregulation would make refinaries for Nigeria.
Have I not warned times without number that NO MULTINATION WOULD BUILD A REFINAERY FOR NIGERIA.
Now what does nigeria do ? pass the fruastration on the people
Ideeiots listen,
- GEJ should build Nigerian owned refinary,
- reduce the indigenous Oil companies to 3 or 4 powerful ccompanies like the way it is done in the banking sector.
- Privatetized the refinaery so those companies can pay slowly and in stages.
NO PRIVATE COMPANY OR MULTINATION WOULD BUILD A REFINARY FOR NIGERIA SINCE THEY ARE NOT AS STUUUPID AS US BACK HOME.
I for one would not do such, I would rather build it in my country and force the country to export it there for refining and import it back. That way I have made 5 times my profit compare to me building a refinary and also my country has made some as well
I have also forced them to export their jobs to my country thus providing jobs for my citizens
