FASHOLA IS IN TROUBLE RIGHT NOW IN LAGOS

No one would be left out of this protest. LASU increase in tution fee is not the case, the case is the toll gate and other over bugeted things he had done.

The people of the SW and Middle belt are devoid of tribal sentiment and don't give a Fuuc,k if it is fashola or atiku

Oil Palm in SE was the foremost source of revenue to Nigeria way back before Independence. Groundnut later came to the scene immediately 1960. Cocoa was more of SW thing, it was not more pronounced economically beyond SW.

@gbawe
Believe me your recent post is the dumbest I have seen on NL. Ever! I mean it. How could you see police trucks with warri inscribed on them, and you still blind your eyes of reasoning with a veil of ignorance, of biblical proportions. You are probably wasting bandwidth meant for more resourceful people. Pls sign out and pray for God's wisdom. You really need it. Intact I will go on my knees for you now! Nothing personal

And let me humbly tell you, whatever comes of Nigeria's parting, the SS will be the worse for it except maybe edo and drlta that are ancestrally related to yorubas. The SS will be worse than Iraq. The SE are hardworking and developed technologically. The SS?? Ha! I fear o. Before you think it, please let your governments really educate your people. You can be sure you guys there are not ready for self determination. It's boyloaf, government,GEJ. Deziani- warlords, opportunists and conmen that are your idols and role models. Only they will profit eventually. Think well o.

And please, save yourself the energy you expend o. Hating one tribe against the other. It's all the fault of the British. Any day Any time, even the British knew the yoruba's are way ahead any culture in West Africa and arguably in Africa, along Benin kingdom. And save your seething criticism of northerners! You can't even bunch them as they are multiethnic. They are hard working. They leave within their means. They may not be educated in western style but they have Arabic learning. And they have lots of small businesses. I doubt if their level of poverty will be different had Nigeria had no oil. It's their elite that are to blame for their woes.

Seek to correct yourself before you think of correcting others. Judge not, that you not be judged.

ABUJA- United Nations, UN has commended President Jonathan for withdrawing the subsidy on petroleum products, describing it as “a bold and correct policy”.

Speaking during a visit to President Jonathan at the State House, Abuja, the Special Adviser to the United Nations’ Secretary General, Prof. Jeffrey Sachs, said the funds from the removal of subsidy would go a long way to rapid infrastructural development and the health sector.

Sachs also commended Nigeria’s president for his conditional grants to local governments for the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, describing it as “one of the most innovative schemes of using national resources for local government development”.

Similarly, European Union, EU has said that it has confidence in Nigeria’s economic and political system.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Finland, Dr. Erkki Tuomoija, disclosed this while speaking to President Goodluck Jonathan during an audience at State House, Abuja. a

He stated that his country and most of Europe have confidence in Nigeria’s economy and political system.

“Your economy is doing very well, and many countries in Europe envy your growth figures”, he said, adding that “we have confidence in your democracy, and in your ability to deal with the terrorism and other challenges confronting you”.

Tuomoija described Nigeria as “a very important partner” and underlined the many similarities and views shared by the two countries on global issues in the United Nations and other multilateral for a, and assured President Jonathan of Finland’s continued cooperation.

Responding, President Jonathan said Nigeria was facing challenges, especially in the area of terrorism, and requested for technical assistance to check the menace.

Fuel subsidy protest spreads to Warri, Effurun

By Emma Amaize, Emma Arubi and Akpokona Omafuaire.

WARRI – THE protest against the removal of fuel subsidy expanded to Delta State, Friday, with members of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, and Committee for Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, grounding business and social activities in the twin cities of Warri and Effurun for more than four hours.

The protest is coming ahead the planned nationwide industrial action on Monday by Organized Labour.

The placard- carrying protesters were led by John Aikpokpo-Martins, Vice Chairman Warri NBA; Barrister Casely Omon-Irabor, Coordinator, Human Rights Defenders Organisation of Nigeria.

Sunny Enenuvwedia, President, CDHR; Pastor Edewor Egedegbe, President, Network for Positive Change; and Barr Benefit Orugbo, Chairman, CDHR Delta State.

They hit the streets of Warri and Effurun as early as 7.00 am in their hundreds. The take-off point was Effurun roundabout.

Some of the placards bore inscriptions; “We want fuel subsidy” “Don’t play politics with our lives in Nigeria” “Okonjo Iweala should resign” “No to IMF policies” “Jonathan has failed us” “If Jonathan cannot rule, resign.”

Okada riders, market women and office workers who closed businesses and offices cheered the protesters as they chanted solidarity songs. Members of the various civil societies also joined in the protest as they march on.

In a proactive strategy, the Area Commander, ACP Abutu Yaro , led several police officers in providing escort for the protesters so that hoodlums would not take advantage to hijack the protest.

Addressing Deltans at Jakpa junction, John Aikpkpo-Martins, Vice Chairman, NBA, Warri said, “We members of the NBA protest today to say no to removal of fuel subsidy, we are fighting against oppression, this is not military rule, Okonjo-Iweala cannot dictate for us, she should resign, fuel price should be returned to N65.”

Also adding his voice, Sunny Enenuvwedia, President, CDHR said, “The president action is hasty. It is anti people, government should cut their bogus life style spending and there will be money for development.

“Why is it only the poor that must suffer? Enough of this rubbish, we want the decision to be rescinded immediately.”

Sure, I'm planning a huge, covert, attack and I'll risk it all by revealing my plans to the General Populace. So, why call it a "Secret Attack", then? Why not just invite our intended victims and say "Hey, tomorrow we're killing you, ok?"

Ok, lets look at it from another angle: They got threatened, they left, big deal. And thats if the story that they left is true. Who saw them leave? Not you, not me. Its a shame that even in this day and age of the Internet, rumors carry more weight among Nigerians than pictorial evidence.

The truth is GEJ's enemies/PDP are using these attacks to rile the public against each other. Open your eyes. Theres more to this than you see.

The problem is the black man is too lazy to "Think" or "Anticipate" "Probabilities". They think its all "GEJ order crack down on Boko Haram" and, boom, Boko-Haram will just disappear. "GEJ orders Cement prices to crash", "GEJ order this, GEJ orders that". What study was done, what Intel was gathered? Sentiments is what fuels the thoughts of most of you and therein lies the biggest problem of all, because the Politicians know this and they keep using it---and they'll keep using it--- till the country gets engulfed in flames. Then, they'll just hop on their private jets and fly to Switzerland and enjoy their stolen loot while you guys battle it out in another vicious round of Civil wars.

Look through this most recent story again: NO ONE HAS CLAIMED RESPONSIBILITY, SO WHAT INVESTIGATION COMPELLED THE LAZY POLICE CHIEF TO DETERMINE THAT THIS WAS AN ATTACK ORCHESTRATED BY BOKO-HARAM?!?

Like I said Open your eyes. Sometime, white is not really white if you look hard enough!!!
Dude,

Stop distorting the truth. Royal Niger is NOT the same thing as Nigeria the nation.
Everyone knows that Nigeria depended on cocoa from the SW and  groundnuts from the North for foreign earnings prior to indepedence. Central Bank of Nigeria data also confirms that assertion.

"Like most economies prior to any full-scale industrial revolution, the pre independence Nigerian economy was based on agriculture. During the 19th century when Britain was moving from an agriculturally based economy to an industrial one, Nigeria thrived on its agricultural trade and its traders were recognized for their astuteness throughout West Africa.

During the 1950s, agriculture retained its position as the biggest contributor to the Nigerian economy. As at 1957, 60% of the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was earned by peasant agriculture. Agriculture accounted for over 75% of Nigeria's export during the pre-independence era.

Also, the nation depended on her agriculture for up to 95% of local food consumption. By 1959, cocoa had become Nigeria's biggest single foreign exchange earner. Nigeria also claimed the title of being one of the three biggest producers of groundnuts in the world. There was also a high production in both cash and subsistence crops like rubber, which accounted for roughly 6% of total exports in late 1950s, coffee, cotton, millet, guinea-corn, beans, yam, maize, cassava and rice.

Agriculture started to lose its importance in the development of the nation's economy from the first few years of independence due to the discovery of crude oil in large quantity. For example, the share of agriculture in the GDP fell from 53% in 1960 to about 34% in 1974. Since then, agriculture has stagnated, partly due to government neglect and poor investments and partly due to ecological factors such as drought, disease, and other related factors. By the mid-1990s, agriculture's share of exports had declined to less than 5%."

APELE- ENRAGED youths, numbering over 2,000, armed with battleaxes, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons went on rampage, Friday, sacking and inflicting injuries on over 50 Muslims at the Hausa quarters, Sapele in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.

A northern security guard was shot dead in a separate incident by a gang of armed robbers that attacked a school in Sapele on Thursday.

Vanguard gathered that the youths were incensed by the uninhibited attacks on churches and killing of Christians in the northern part of the country by the Islamic Boko Haram sect.

Two of the persons suspected to have carried out the onslaught were, however, arrested by the police in Sapele.

There was pandemonium following the attack on Muslims, who were ordered to vacate the town in their own interest since Boko Haram members had also issued ultimatum to Christians to leave the north.

Secretary of a Muslim Media group in Sapele, Sadiq Oniyesaneyene Musa who spoke to Vanguard on the attacks by Sapele youths said, “We are disturbed by this attack on Muslims in Sapele and the order that all Muslims in Sapele should return to the north. I am a Muslim and an Itsekiri from Delta state, where do they want me to go to, this is my homeland”.

Musa said the youths besieged Muslims in the town very close to the mosque that was bombed, last year, and injured a lot of faithful.

“We called the director of the State Security Service, SSS, Asaba and the Area Commander and they responded. The Joint Task Force, JTF, on the Niger-Delta also deployed soldiers to take care of the situation”, he said.
