Be it a chat about their daughter’s new date or sharing a glass of beer with their teenage son, parents of generation X have come a long way from being just parents to being friends with their kids. But is that the ideal style of parenting? While the ‘generation gap’ between parents and children seems to be diminishing over the last few years, the extent to which the bond of friendship between children and their parents should exist is a question that often comes to mind. Experts too feel that ‘kids need their parents, not another friend’ as it is important to keep the boundaries. A serious consequence of the parent-child 'friendship' is the diminishing respect that children have for their parents. However, it’s also true that friendship can be a wonderful source of strength and an excellent way to satisfy the emotional needs of children, but where should one draw the line? Is it necessarily the right style of parenting? |

Couples may believe that being honest can up the happiness quotient in their relationship, but at times, it may leave them only to regret their decision. Sometimes it's better to lie, at least if it helps saving your relationship. While keeping secrets at times is harmful for the future of a relationship, 'white lies' are supposedly believed to be harmless and helps sustain a long standing relationship. In situations where the 'truth' might put your better half in an embarrassing situation, it's a safe bet to rather opt for a white lie that not only puts a smile on their face, but also protects your relationship from misunderstandings. Are white lies safe for a relationship? Or are they harmful for the growth of trust in a relationship? |

Your eyes sweep the room and rest on a figure that is looking right back at you. Your eyes meet briefly and you skip a heartbeat. There's something about him or her, although you can't quite figure out what, which makes you believe that soul mates really exist. Is it love at first sight or is it lust at first thought? People swoon at the idea of falling instantly into love, and it's not difficult to observe where these ideas come from - fairytales, romantic movies and, of course, numerous romance novels. But does such a thing really exist? Is it just a fantasy that we want to live or is it the real thing? |

Prof. Eric Arubayi's Tenure ended yesterday.... Congratz to him. Btw, three Professors have been nominated for the post of the Vice Chancellor. There have been objections from the community (Abraka) members cos there is no Urhobo man amongst the three nominees. The situation could be likened to the situation in the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun - Warri, Delta State some years ago when a Northerner was appointed as the VC, but trust Waffi/Deltans na...dem nor dey gree karey last....na gbege end d mata na, nobody tell federal government before dem change am to Deltan na. The heat is still on..... Wud keep y'all posted. Shalom! |
