George Graham: Arsenal Erred In Selling Adebayor To Manchester City
Arsenal legend George Graham has criticized the ease with which Arsene Wenger sold Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City.

Graham led the club to two league titles in his time at Highbury, and he does not believe the Gunners can challenge without the Togolese striker.

Wenger - We’re keeping an eye on Chamakh

http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-we-re-keeping-an-eye-on-chamakh

Arsène Wenger has admitted publically for the first time that he is “keeping an eye” on Marouane Chamakh.

The media have linked Arsenal with the 25-year-old Bordeaux striker for much of the summer but there has been no official word until now.

With Emmanuel Adebayor about to finalise the formalities of his move to Manchester City, there may be room for another forward at Emirates Stadium.

However, after the 2-2 draw at Barnet on Saturday, Wenger would not confirm he would be definitely adding another front man. Yet if he does require attacking re-enforcements then Chamakh would be in his sights.

“We keep an eye on him,” said Wenger. “He is one of the players that we will follow and if we went for a striker then he would be one of the possibilities.”
And his IQ quotient cant keep up with it! grin

One for sure is that AW will sign a striker (Chamakh - 80%). . . .but im really keen on AW adding an established DM to our squad and if possible another CB.

@KAY - You should know AW by now. . . .if AW start saying that he wants to buy. . .other clubs will increase the prices because they are aware that we received 25M! huh huh and as a result. . .a player that is worth 4M will be bought for 10M/12M ? i love AW "silence / suspense approach" during transfer period. . . .but i hope he gets a good replacement and importantly a DM!

        Adebayor   signs for Blues

http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Team-news/2009/July/adeybayor-signs-for-blues

Manchester City can announce that Emmanuel Adebayor has passed a medical and signed a five-year contract.

Manchester City can announce that Emmanuel Adebayor has passed a medical and signed a five-year contract.

The 25-year-old Togo international has joined the Blues for an undisclosed fee. He will wear the number 25 that he sported at Arsenal last season.

A crowd of around 300 Blues fans were at the City of Manchester Stadium to greet the striker whose was named African Player of the Year for 2008.

The player was hugely impressed by his reception.

“It made me feel really welcome and special and I can’t wait to play for City’s fans and show them what I can do,” he declared after completing the bulk of the paperwork.

“I was born to play football and that is what I want to do. I have come here to make history for this club and those supporters. It what the chairman and the manager told me that they want too and I can’t wait to get started.

After beginning his career in France at Metz, Emmanuel moved to Monaco from where he was signed by the Gunners. Once there he made 104 first team appearances and scored 46 goals. He was named African Player of the Year in 2008.

The 6’ 3” striker’s most productive season in the top flight came in 2007-08 when he notched 24 goals in 36 starts. He was being courted by Milan earlier in the season.

Blues boss Mark Hughes is delighted to have secured the services of yet another high class international star with his peak years still in front of him.

“Emmanuel has been one of the top forwards in the Premier League since he arrived from France and we are delighted he has agreed to come and join us,” he declared.

“Along with the other signings we have made in the last two windows he will greatly enhance our ability to compete with the top sides.

“His arrival is another clear indication that we are determined to augment the players we have here with the best of international talent.

“He adds vital balance and power to our attack. He has everything a top forward needs. He is versatile, powerful, quick and agile on the ball. I am looking forward to working with him as are the rest of the staff. He will definitely add a new dimension to our play. I have been a great admirer for a long time.”

Adebayor will now head out to South Africa to join his new teammates.

City fans should note that the club shop will be open tomorrow from 11am until 5pm

French press identify Senderos as Bordeaux target

French daily Le Parisien claims that Bordeaux have asked Arsenal about the availability of Swiss defender Philippe Senderos as the two clubs close in on a deal which would take Moroccan attacker Marouane Chamakh from the Stade Chaban Delmas to the Emirates.

The Ligue 1 champions have in previous days been linked with a move for veteran France international Mikael Silvestre but it appears that the potential availability of 24-year-old Senderos has turned Laurent Blanc’s head. The former Servette youngster spent last season on loan with Italian giants AC Milan after five years with the Gunners in which he has struggled to cement a first team place.

Arsene Wenger has several alternatives for the heart of his defence next year with William Gallas, Kolo Toure, Thomas Vermaelen, Johan Djourou, Alex Song and the aforementioned Silvestre and Senderos all with experience at the highest level. Given the wealth of options, it is understood that the French coach will offload at least one player as part of a defensive reshuffle.
