Englishman Cahill joined Bolton from Aston Villa in a £5m move in 2008

Bolton have turned down a bid from Arsenal for Gary Cahill, described by manager Owen Coyle as "derisory".

"When I make an offer for a player, I'd like to think in the right ball park," said Coyle on Friday.

"But this wasn't even close. I'm only passing it on as a third party, but the word derisory doesn't even cover it."

In June Coyle said he was resigned to losing the 25-year-old centre-back - who is now in the final year of his contract - this summer.

The Gunners have a raft of injury problems, and defenders Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci both missed the club's Champions League qualifying win at Udinese on Wednesday.

The transfer window closes on 31 August.

Arsenal have received nearly £60m for the sales of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri this summer, and manager Arsene Wenger insists the money that has come in is available for him to buy players.

BTW - i was indeed proud of the lad!!! Things learnt : Rozzi can be a real deal this season if properly managed. . Ramsey has improved i wish Shawcross ddin't stamped him huh huh Szczesny should be our GK for the whole season in the UCL / EPL /FA CUP!!! Gervinho and Theo are having a good understanding on the wings. . .above all RvP is very matured in his game. . i feel he drops deep to take the ball to the wings and then link up well. . .

even AW substitution was spot on!!!. . .

As for Song. . . i feel he's the MOST improved Arsenal Player over the past 3 seasons!!!

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)2011/12 Uefa Champions League Draw! Have Your Say! by allboyz(op): 11:40am On Aug 25, 2011
The draw for the Champions League Group Stage takes place on Thursday in Monaco from 4.45pm (UK time).

How the draw works

The 32 clubs who feature in the draw are split into four pots of eight based on their UEFA coefficient scores. These are based on performance in European competitions over the last five years.

A total of eight groups of four teams will be drawn with one side from each seeding pot in each group. No side can be drawn against another from the same pot, nor can they play a team from their home country.

Where two sides from the same country have qualified, they will be paired to split their matches between Tuesday and Wednesday, so one club will always play at home on one day and the other will play away on the other day. In the case of countries with three representatives, only two teams have been paired in terms of their fixtures; in the case of countries with four representatives, two pairings have been made.

To ensure sides from the same country play on separate days, the eight groups will be distinguished by colour: Groups A-D will be red and Groups E-H blue. When a paired club is drawn, for example, into one of the red groups, the other paired club - once it has been drawn - will automatically be assigned to one of the four blue groups.

The order of home and away matches will be determined after the draw has taken place.

Pot One:
Barcelona
Manchester United
Chelsea
Bayern Munich
Arsenal
Real Madrid
FC Porto
Internazionale

Pot Two:
AC Milan
Lyon
Shakhtar Donetsk
Valencia
Benfica
Villarreal
CSKA Moscow
Marseille

Pot Three:
Zenit St. Petersburg
Ajax
Bayer Leverkusen
Olympiakos
Manchester City
Lille
FC Basel
BATE Borisov

Pot Four:
Borussia Dortmund
Napoli
Dinamo Zagreb
Apoel FC
Trabzonspor
Genk
Viktoria Plzen
Otelul Galati

The board of Arsenal must love Arsene Wenger because he doesn't waste (spend) on buying players, after all the club equally makes money from merchandising. In any case, here is something for the Arsenal fans to ponder: (modded the original a bit)

See why Arsenal is drawing red at each game. Arsenal hasn’t won any silverware in 5 seasons.  What i mean is that Arsenal has played in 4 competitions every season (5 Carling Cups, 5 FA Cups, 5 League Championships and 5 Champions League) making a total of 20 attempts at silverware and haven’t been successful ONCE!! 0 success in 20 trials! Let me try again and put it into further perspective,  In the year Arsenal last won ANY silverware:∙ (here goessmiley∙ Airtel was still called VMobile (before becoming Celtel then Zain then to Bharti Airtel),∙  Nigerian Banking Sector still had more than 80 banks∙ Brad Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston∙  Youtube and Twitter had not been created∙ Wabara was still Senate President, and Tafa Balogun was still IG∙ Saddam was still in hiding,∙    George Bush, Fidel Castro, Gerhard Schroeder, Ariel Sharon, Jacques Chirac and Tony Blair were still in power.∙  Goran Erikkson was still coach of England∙ Crystal Palace and Charlton were still in the Premiership∙ Vodafone were still Manchester United's sponsors∙ Rafael Nadal hadn’t won a Grand Slam and Zidane was still captain of France and hadnt headbutted Materazzi in the World Cup final∙ Pope John Paul was still Pope and Kofi Annan was still Sec Gen of UN. If a child was born on the day you last won a trophy, he would be in Primary School, would be able to know the difference between good and evil and would probably be about 3ft tall. ‎Plus Costacurta was still at Milan, Hamman sef still dey L'pool and our own Mikel was battling Lynn Oslo over United and Chelsea, oh did we even know Dbanj/Don Jazzy thenhuh Na Style Plus dey reign that time, Pls let's give dem way before they literally "gun" someone down.

Last season is over (in case you didn't know that) cheesy

I don't really care about the 'signs' - we have one leg in the CL group stages. If we succeed tomorrow, we have achieved the most important requirement for August.

Our initial fixtures are tough and could have gone better, there is no doubt about that. But teams have started the season poorly and gone on to have great successes.

anyways taken a depleted squad to Italy would leave mi watching this match for 90+mins with lots of pressure/Tension and all sort. . . .

i just hope we get an early goal and unsettle the italians and perhaps get the second goal through a counter and get through. . .

for me. . .its gonna be a 2 - 2 draw or a 2 - 1 win to the Italians and either ways - we go trough!!!

@allboyz, lemme make one confession, last season was the first time since 2008 collapse that I believed very much without any iota of doubt we will win the league. It looked like that for a while too. Then the devil came to take his due. Going into the season my belief would have been stronger if we had kept Cesc after buying Gervinho, and then added a different type of defender to our current stock, all these irrespective of what other clubs did. But that's just my 'analytical' mind. My blind support mind says, we are still winning the league none the less. wink grin

I'm just an Arsenal fan, well, until Supersports comes calling.
Bruva,Honestly if this had been the case. . . Then believe you me. . .i wouldn't be here clamouring . . . i will just be waiting for Sat/Sun or Tues/Wed nights to come andn lemme watch my Arsenal play footie coz there's no way we aren't going to win a trophy this season had fab$ + Nasri + clichy + eboue + Gernvinho + B52 stayed!!

But all in all - i will like to borrow your "Blind Support Mind"and see if Mother Luck will smile at us! Obviously this Current squad is NOT ripe for success!! Midfield of Jackie song and Rambo? Definitely Not now!!

Thanks, but are you sure about that Arsene trust thingie?  grin grin
What I can't stomach is that the same people ruling out our chances of competing at the beginning of the season will start to grumble when we're still in competition with 6 weeks to go only for the squad depth to finally take its toll while we are trying to struggle through many competitions at the same time.
That's has always been the problem and the best best is to add up a few to make thing a little easier and that's what we are saying now. . .

last term we had players - 6 wks to go injuries came and we were lost!!

Now the same players that weren't even enough in the first place were SOLD and NOT replaced and i can't help but wonder why or what is wrong really??

But anyways - AW doesn't make AFC - he's only the manager and in the Club i lay ma faith hoping for the best why still trusting the manager to "surprise me"

we have just little less than 9 days to shout and chants once the season starts we or betterstill me, i've got no choice but to keep supporting AFC.

Believe you me. . .if it were possible for me to switch club i would have done that about 3 years ago but im just so devoted to this club like we are married!! Jeez AW have be-witched mi oooo  grin grin grin grin grin

'I’m prepared to speculate in the market'

By Richard Clarke

Arsène Wenger is not afraid to take a “gamble” in the transfer market.

The Arsenal manager is looking to bring in experience before the window closes at the end of the month. At Friday’s press conference, he suggested that midfield and defence were areas in which he may strengthen.

Speaking after Saturday’s game with Liverpool, Wenger confirmed once again that he would buy. His concern was finding the requisite quality but he added that, if needed, he would speculate.

“We are never afraid to take a gamble,” said Wenger. “But to buy a player is always a gamble anyway.

“I look at the players and if they are good enough. People forget we have bought players - Gervinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jenkinson, Ryo - and you will see over the season they are top-quality players but at the moment we have to give them some time.

“Yes overall we will buy. Maybe people feel I am stubborn, but I am not, I just want to do the best for the team and buy the right players.

“If I have shown one thing in the last 15 years, it is that I have brought in good players.

“We will bring as well experienced players. People just say 'buy' but it is to buy the right player which is difficult.
Well Funny words from AW - So at last he's got a hint that people 'feels' that he's stubborn - Lol grin grin grin grin grin grin
