kopell:I have zero knowledge of solar setups oo ![]() Just speaking from a general technical standpoint. The most important thing is to efficiently utilize available power by minimizing your load. Always Read the tech spec information labels on appliances and equipment, so you have an idea how much they consume. That way you know what will have a tendency to drain your bank. Most household appliances are rated in either hp or W 1hp= 750W |
mufutau55:Very good initiative. In saner climes NNPC run stations would be in the fore, leading the way and showing others it can be done |
battleaxe:That's correct! Project was executed by Gennex Technologies . Had no idea they have a presence here.

twinskenny:Along the Ejigbo - ikotun road. |
brojero:I kid you not. 60-70% of the AGO and DPK imported and consumed in Nigeria today is used for electricity generation...privately and corporately. Imagine if that demand is eliminated, Imagine how it impacts our economy and foreign exchange. |
For those sitting on the fence about going green. Take the Leap. As long as its done right, the benefits are ..... Recently, I stopped by at a newly built fuel station in my vicinity on my way out. while waiting in line, I casually glance at a sign post on my right and I read an inscription that instantly grabs my attention…..”Solar Service Station” I immediately read the line again to be sure I was reading right. My first impulse was to look up and assess the kind of roof they managed to mount their panels on , and see if it was true. Lo and behold, the roof covering was made completely out of solar panels……neatly arranged, neatly secured and neatly connected. I was so impressed. A gas station,.. supplier of PMS, DPK,AGO taking the initiative to go green. Lol, What an amusing Irony. 'When those who have fossil fuel in abundant supply are opting for green energy....it tells a story See pictures below and read the rest of the story here https://www.nairaland.com/3565944/solar-service-stations....how-common-these The future truely is green

Nice, modern looking pumps. I bet a million bucks these are at least 20-30% more energy efficient than most early design digital pumps.
|
Night time view ....on the way back home. Low consumption, yet Excellent illumination with LED Lighting.
|
Daytime image on my way out... notice the V roof design, as opposed to the inverted V or single slope commonly used. When this gas station was under construction . I wondered why on earth they would want that kind of roof design, was it an aesthetics thing ![]() Now it makes sense.... the use of the Vee roof design among other things makes keeping the panels in place easier, it takes care of the worry of the panels sliding down and off the roof due to gravitational pull, wind or some other external force. it also perfectly hides them , eliminating what can sometimes be unsightly arrangements on roof tops. Also, opposed to a single slope design... this Vee design ensures that at least half of the panels are getting optimal exposure throughout periods of sunlight

Once upon a time, An average petrol station would need 5 to 6 nos of 1500W halogen lamps(9000W) to get adequate lighting…..then we progressed to (400 - 250)W Metal Halide lamps… and onward to LED flood lights and other LED lighting options. Now, an average petrol station with 5 to 6 100W LED Flood lights (600W total) will be better illuminated than one was then, with 5 to 6 1500W Halogen lamps (9000W total). That’s a consumption(load) difference of 8400W …. over ten times less energy than before. Now imagine how that affects the size and cost of the setup you need!! These are just two examples. The same is applicable in many other areas. As progress continues to be made in reducing energy requirements of appliances and improving the efficiency of solar equipment and systems… Fossil fuels will become tomorrow what floppy disks, rotary phones, and typewriters are today…..technology people thought would last forever. Have You Seen one of These service stations in Your Neighbourhood ? |
I was greatly impressed. A gas station,.. supplier of PMS, DPK,AGO taking the initiative to go green. Lol, What an amusing Irony. The suprising thing is, this is not a gas station in some highbrow, super-classy bourgeois neighbourhood. Renewable energy sources are gradually becoming accepted as the better, more efficient, more reliable and more economical choice. One might ask, How did we go from… reliable solar setups being exclusively for the extremely rich or very light users(loads)….to the present scale of application and deployment?? In retrospect I believe the most critical reason for the increasing success, popularity and deployment of solar systems across the world is the progress that has been made in the development and creation of energy efficient appliances, equipment and lightings. This greatly surpasses the improvements in quality and efficiency of photo cells & panels, decrease in purchasing costs etc that has been experienced over the years. A very substantial decrease in electrical load translates into the most substantial decrease in the size and cost of setup adequate for various scales of electricity needs TVs have gone from 250W boxes with cathode ray tubes…. to LCD… to LED… to OLED displays (many consuming less than 50W) etc. Each evolving generation accompanied by substantial increase in energy efficiency/ decrease in utilization. |

44chux:Lol, trust me. I'm not sure they even know I exist. Its a big company, But they don't seem to care much for thier website. Just contact them and tell them what you need. You'll be required to present some proof of identity and complete some forms like that. They do this so that random people don't ship stolen/fraudulent items to them and all that. |
