You just about summed it up.... same principle, different systems, different purposes

A building's grounding system
Protects occupants from mild shocks due to short circuit currents in the circuitry which could occur when a fault within an electrical device connects a live supply conductor to an exposed conductive surface. Such shocks could be experienced from touching kitchen sink, tiled walls, sockets and switches etc.

A lightning Protection system. Protects occupants from millions of volts of electricity (100-500)mill carried by lightning strike as a result of the potential difference between charged clouds (during a thunder storm) and the ground. That amount of electrical energy can turn a complete building to plantain chips or ...merely fry sensitive equipments, Depending on the magnitude.

The Good news is.... You could live in a location for 50 years And never experience a threat
The bad news is... you don't get a Memo when the shyyt is about to hit the fan

Bottom line, if you have a multi storey structure or built on an elevated ground, would be wise to do it... It's cheaper to have it and not need it than it is to need it and not have it.

When i bought my DB about 7/8 months ago..
.. I believe in the end I went for ABB as the price difference was not much.

Original ABB costs almost or twice as much as ABt fir most sizes , if you bought ABB at a price even remotely close to ABt. You most likely have wt is referred to as a "follow come".

As far back as 2014 whn ABt (D4 TPN) was retailing for abt 14-15k, ABB was in the environment of 25k.

ABB of The attached size (D6 TPN) currently cost more than twice as much as the ABt

5. Black masking tap- ( abro insulation tape) abt N100

True, but you do have to keep moving around to keep them active .

They need/sense motion to keep them on

not necessarily, unless it's motion activated . Sensor switches like that on my thread (see attached pic) use body heat, and stay on as long as the heat source is detected . They are probably best suited for places like toilets, kitchens and other such locations where you want the light on Everytime you're there.... You could be in a room but want the light off.

As much as i would love to be the smart guy to be credited with the ingenious solution, or chop the possible prize money up for grabs...there's really no honour in that.
there are existing designs that more or less check all the needed boxes as per funcionality.

Apparently permanent burglar bars are quite a major issue in many countries considering the huge safety challange they pose.

The videos below show the simplest and easiest concept of quick release system implementable on burglar bars. this idea betters most others in its simplicity, cost effectiveness, ease of implementationand fool proof application. pull the pin.... and voila,
ofcos the type of burglar bar in the vid and the method of installation differ from ours here but, the principle for the quick release is the same.
As earlier inferred, there are many other designs and ideas, like the foot operated lever or cable actuator type, as well as installation of a prefabricated quick release latch which involves burying the latch in the wall and the actuating of the release mechanism by the push of a button,etc... The below however is my preferred.
With a good metal fabricator and the right materials with adequate coating and finishing you can have a very neat setup that is practical and easy on the eyes.

the only modification i would make to this design would be the embedding of the angle bracket and lower mounting bracket in concrete (see pic, excuse the rough sketch) instead of screwing to the wall. otherwise, the setup is good to go...breach-wise . your average naija burglar wouldnt even think of this in the first place.
as a side note, it doesnt even have to be implemented on all windows, you could pick maybe one in each room or living space; preferably the least conspicuous window or that with the safest exit landing on the other side (especially for those who might need to jump out of their 5 storey building )
