Floods can rise as high as 1-2m above ground level, if your basement window is 1m above that level, that implies the window will be atleast 2m above ground . That's even higher than regular window level.

I've seen basement, underground reservoirs, house built on stilts, stormwater drainages, raised floors, ramp.
Is there any more design consideration?

In my opinion the pillars don't even have to be so conspicuous. There's always some intelligent way of framing it.. with walls or some sort of cosmetic covering that helps improve aesthetics

A well written piece of valuable Information with nice sketches to back them up. This is the most economical and prayers practical solution to the problem.

the first living space is raised at least 3m above the Natural ground level. During flooding period, nothing will happen with your properties inside the house.

The ground floor with only columns will support the first living space. These columns will be designed as unbraced column, with water resistance paint to protect them against constant contact with water.

This is the most practical and easily actualizable defence.... "ELEVATION" If you can't control the flow of water in your direction control your elevation/position relative to water level when the floods hit.
Note the use of the word "defence" .
you cannot prevent coastal flooding it's inevitable , the earth is bruised and bleeding....especially at an individual level, and in a country like this. But you can buy/provide yourself some defence.

Those with a more robust budget can build a ramp That goes from the side to rear of the house as pictured below, to serve as a safe spot for the cars during the flood and use the ground garage when the threat abates. You can even connect the ramp like an elevated porch or balcony to your first floor and simply park your car and stroll into your back balcony from the ramp.

If you're doing the regular block and mortar construction the only alternative to using conduit channels for cabling would be surface installationn; using flat cables and running them along the walls with clips, trunking is not practical for domestic installations

How else do you intend to use the three core cables ?

Ohh,.. .. when i said "build" a panel, i meant the fully customisable type assembled or built to user spec (pictured below) not the prefabricated ones.

It is my private build and not a commercial one so please expect non-Nigerian ways of applying new ideas and technology. I was hoping to get a single board but it looks like multi-board is the only solution so far. My house is divided into four zones already, so each zone with it's own panel will work.

First and foremost, like you said chief,.... its your build so the choices are yours to make.

Its not really a question of the Nigerian or non Nigerian thing... I'm talking about wiring regulations and standards here or abroad. Dedicating a circuit to every socket or switch is not new technology, its more of a choice

I'm not sure i see any panels in the attached link chief , those are distribution boards.

All in all i guess safety and peace of mind is what is paramount.

Even the white house wdnt be designed that way.
That's more than an overkill,
An average all rooms ensuite three bedroom flat, for instance; will have over 30 socket and switch points, ideally.
The largest commercially available distribution board size is D12 TPN which has 36 breakers and is enough to comfortably serve probably a six bedroom duplex if the isolator is upgraded. Going by your proposed circuitry if you're building anything larger than a 3bed, say just a 4 bed bungalow for instance, then you'd have to construct a panel, or use multiple boards, which is absolutely unnecessary.
Aside from that, if every socket is fed directly from the board, you'll be looking at a substantial increase in wiring and piping cost. Infact by the time dey knack u wiring quote ehh, na u go use your hand tear your plan

Table lamps, and non-fixture mood lights are not really things you can put in an electrical or buildin plan unless you're designing the interior aswell or furnishing it... That's the problem.,

When I see the walls lights, I keep asking what happened to mood lighting? What happened to table lamps?
But most of the time, that's what architects put on drawing and that's what we do. Some clients will unclad for you if the 4 wall lights are missing.


In projects where I have total control, I never put those lights and there's never a complain.

They're not really useless persay, it's mainly a matter of choice and interior design. Its not all the time you'll want white light in your living space.
Wall brackets can double as mood lights for those who would like the option of changing the room ambience from time to time. They simply fit them with dimmable coloured bulbs or go for LED wall brackets, as pictured below, while still retaining the regular white pop spotlights. For when they want greater illumination.

First and second pictures show mood lights in the form of LED strips, with the regular white pop lights still dustributed at the center .

While the third and fourth show LED wall brackets, useable as alternatives.

The problem with our naija is they don't want to open eye ; so they all rely on the everyday design and Nobody wants to try something new.

can I ask why in Nigeria do we install all round wall lamps?

This practice is very wasteful as one can save easily about 70% in pipping and wiring cost if just one lamp/bulb point is adopted in the middle of the room as is

no wall lamps but still well presented living area.

Because wall fixtures are cheaper , less obtrusive, generally more durable (less exposed to damage than moveable lamps),especially with kids running arnd and all. Also, because of the type of construction common in the west (Dry wall etc) the use of standing lamps, floor lamps and the rest; for indoor ilumination wud generaly be more practical.

If u eliminated the wall lighting points as propsed, you'd PROBABLY save abt 30-35% max, most lighting points are looped or ringed, so what it takes to get the extra points within a room for instance, isn't all that.

The first pic shows one fitting, but with four lamps pointed in different directions,emphasizing the need for evenly spread illumination. One lamp pointing downwards would not have served that living space adequately, despite being small in comparison to most living rooms here. The second shows multiple lamps in strategic positions aswell; extra costs, extra sockets, extra care. Western construction, architecture and interior design limit the use of wall lamps.

Regardless, too many lighting points can be an overkill. For those with pop ceilings for instance, well distributed pop lights are enough to provide sufficient illumination, eliminating the need for wall fittings/fixtures
