Lionel Messi only follows four football clubs on Instagram and his former club Paris Saint-Germain are not one of them.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is being unveiled as an Inter Miami player on Sunday at a special event at the club's DRV PNK Stadium, with both Shakira and Bad Bunny set to perform.

Messi is set to earn a whopping £120 million-a-year playing for David Beckham's MLS franchise and has spoken about his excitement over the new chapter in his career.

However, the 36-year-old is yet to follow his new employers on Instagram. With 478 million people following him, Messi is one of the most-followed people on the platform and broke the record for likes when he posted a picture of him with the World Cup in December.

He follows 280 people on his feed and recently fans have noticed that he no longer follows PSG, who he left on a free transfer after his contract expired.

Messi's rapport with the club's supporters soured and he was booed on more than one occasion - one occasion being when he returned from a suspension after going on an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia.

I've seen some comments saying Americans don't know Messi. USA may not be big in regard to soccer but there are some soccer stars that 8/9 out of every 10 Americans will know.



E.g. we Nigerians are not big into basketball or American football or tennis but no doubt we know big names like Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Tom Brady, Roger Federer etc. Same goes for Americans knowing Messi and maybe two or three other super stars of soccer.

That's what these people don't understand... There are lots of top Hollywood celebrities who jog with regular Americans every day, and take the subway trains across cities!

Most of them only feel the need for security when heading out for top occasions where they might get delayed by the press and fans!

Most Americans really don't send at all! They are not all as star-struck as most Nigerians!

As a celebrity or rich person, go to the mall yourself, help your husband/wife to do shopping. Mingle with your fans or lovers, show them love too.

But naija yeyebrities, you will see them inside black tinted car with heavy securities.

You've be surprised they don't know him much. Americans are funny breeds that doesn't know anything that's nothing within their region. Basketballers are more popular than Messi in the US.

Lionel Messi is fully immersing himself into American culture and adjusting to life in Miami by grocery shopping at US supermarket chain Publix on just his second day in South Florida.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner was spotted pushing a cart at the grocery store's checkout with different types of cereal including General Mills' Lucky Charms and Kellogg's' Fruit Loops on Thursday, as fans are eager for Inter Miami to confirm his signing by this upcoming weekend, at the earliest.

Messi, who is set to earn $54million per year, landed in Miami on Tuesday with his wife, Antonela, and their three sons, Thiago, 10, Mateo, 7, and Ciro, 5.

The Argentine, whose height is listed at five-ft-seven, even had time to pose with some of his US fans based in the Sunshine State, as he was headed towards the grocery store's exit.

While it's possible that Messi had a rowdy crowd waiting for him outside the market, the pictures that went viral suggest it was a pretty normal outing for by his standards, something that's a rarity for the 36-year-old superstar.

In March, after Messi won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar with Argentina, Messi was mobbed by fans while leaving dinner in Buenos Aires.

But public fan adoration is nothing new for Messi, who's been one of the most famous athletes in the world for the last 15 years. If Messi leads Inter Miami to the heights he led FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Argentina to, he might not be able to walk into any store in Miami without being bombarded by fans.

Messi attended Inter Miami's practice on Thursday and will be presented by the club on Sunday, according to a report from ESPN. The club's managing owner, Jorge Mas, announced last month that Messi is expected to make his debut for Inter Miami on July 21 in a Leagues Cup match against Cruz Azul.
