More photographs are emerging, showcasing the Russian Wagner group being thoroughly humiliated by these African fighters. If you assume that waging a guerrilla war is a straightforward task or that Russia is invincible, then take a look at this. They suffered a resounding defeat in Afghanistan, are currently being routed in Ukraine, and now this debacle in Africa. It's clear that the once-mighty 'Mother Russia' is now on its knees.

The lives of these Russian mercenaries, purportedly the epitome of military prowess, are being utterly destroyed by these fighters as we speak.
Travel / Re: The Nelons: 3 Family Members Of Popular US Gospel Group Die In Plane Crash by AlphaSoul: 11:39pm On Jul 27
WriterNig:

Three members of the US family gospel group the Nelons have been killed in a plane crash, their management announced.

Jason Clark, Kelly Nelon Clark and their daughter Amber Kistler died on Friday while taking a flight to perform on a cruise ship.

Seven people died in the crash in north-east Wyoming, including Kistler’s husband, Nathan.

The Campbell county Facebook page said the crash happened at about 1pm north of the town of Gillette and sparked a wildfire.

On Instagram, the Gaither Management Group wrote: “One of the best loved gospel music families in America, the Nelons were involved in a tragic, fatal plane crash on Friday afternoon on their way to join the Gaither Homecoming cruise to Alaska.

“Killed in the crash were Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, Amber and Nathan Kistler and their assistant, Melodi Hodges, along with the pilot, Larry Haynie and his wife, Melissa.”

In a separate statement, a National Transportation Safety Board spokesperson said preliminary information indicated the plane crashed following an “autopilot issue during flight”. The agency had sent a team of investigators to the site for further examination, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that a preliminary report on the crash was expected in about 30 days. A final report with the probable cause of the crash could take up to two years to complete.

The youngest daughter of the Clarks, Autumn Nelon Streetman, was not on the plane and said: “As many of you have heard by now, my father and mother, Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, along with my sister, Amber, and brother-in-law, Nathan, as well as our dear friends Melodi Hodges, Larry and Melissa Haynie, were involved in a tragic plane crash on Friday.

“Thank you for the prayers that have been extended already to me, my husband, Jamie, and our soon-to-be-born baby boy, as well as Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark. We appreciate your continued prayers, love and support as we navigate the coming days.”

According to the Gaither Management Group, Streetman was told of the crash in Seattle and “brought to the hotel where artists were gathered with Bill and Gloria Gaither to pray, sing and embrace them in their grief, pledging to support them in whatever needs arise”.

That was horrendous... Wiping off family members like that.

Politics / Re: Kalabari Is NOT Ijaw - Kalabari Groups Warn by AlphaSoul: 3:46am On Apr 18
Fejoku:
Anyone who knows Kalabari's history very well know that they're descendants of mixed people with Igbo and Ijaw being the largest contributors. Efik, Ibibio and edoids around down Niger tributaries also added to the fold making the place a cocktail of different persons. Two things however standout which is the language and culture of the people. Igbo language is predominant there together with a dialect similar to Ijaw but the customs and traditions resemble that of coastal people around the area specifically more of the Ijaws. Areas traditionally regarded as Kalabari doesn't include Okrika and Bonny. These two see themselves different even up till date.

This recent story of carving a niche for themselves isn't surprising. In fact, it is expected because the truth is that there's hardly any sincerity in the creation of numerous 'ethnic nationalities in Rivers state. There's hardly any state in Nigeria that is as politically jinxed as Rivers state. Even Ogoni don't agree that they all are one. Some Igbo groups there have the same problem. Now even the Kalabari have started their own. I expect the Andoni and Nkoro to start their own too.
There's too much lies in Rivers state.

Hungry vlogger
Indeed, I just commented on exactly what you noticed here! How sure are we that the girl (student) whose picture was attached to this thread by the OP is the real thief being referred to here?

The OP also said on this thread that her name is "Peace" but the video says the female student's name Sarah!

So, due diligence wasn't done before posting this annoyingly crappy, disjointed video here.

A lot of people just rush to make comments on NL threads without reading properly to pick loopholes in fake stories or stories that are filled with half-truths.

Politics / Re: Nigeria Is Set To Become One Of The Top 5 Economies In The World by AlphaSoul: 9:51am On Mar 10
deji17:
Nigeria is set to become one of the top 5 economies in the world
October 18th 2023

Nigeria is emerging as a significant economic force on the global stage.
With a current GDP of $477 billion, Nigeria is Africa's largest economy and is poised for rapid growth.
A report by Goldman Sachs forecasts that by 2075, Nigeria is set to become one of the top economies globally.
The "Giant of Africa," Nigeria, is quickly establishing itself as a major economic force on the international scene.

Nigeria is positioned to play a key role in the global economy because of its expanding population, wealth of natural resources, booming tech sector, and dedication to economic change.

Currently, Nigeria stands as Africa’s largest economy, with a GDP of $477 billion, and a lot of wiggle room for fiscal expansion. Additionally, the country is estimated to grow at a rather rapid pace, taking its economic dominance past the African landscape and onto the global stage.

A report by Goldman Sachs, a world-leading investment bank, buttresses this point. In one of its research reports titled, The Path to 2075, the investment bank noted that Nigeria is set to become one of the top economies in the world by 2075, standing only behind, China, India, the United States, and Indonesia.

The report identifies four major themes for the global economy, “1. slower global potential growth, led by weaker population growth, 2. EM convergence remains intact, led by Asia’s powerhouses, 3. a decade of US exceptionalism that is unlikely to be repeated, and 4. less global inequality and more local inequality.”

The report also notes that by 2050, Nigeria will be amongst the top 15 economies in the world, coming in at the 14th spot.

An extract from the report reads, “The prospect of rapid population growth in countries such as Nigeria, Pakistan and Egypt implies that – with the appropriate policies and institutions – these economies could become some of the largest in the world.”

Insightful parameters.

Properties / Re: Houses Demolished In Eti-osa As Lagos Gov't Cracks Down On Illegal Structures by AlphaSoul: 9:12am On Mar 10
Gistmedia10:
The Lagos State Government's enforcement of building regulations has led to the demolition of several houses in the Eti-Osa area. The demolition, carried out by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), is part of a wider effort to sanitize the built environment and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Reports from the scene in Eti-Osa reveal a significant number of houses being brought down, with LASBCA officials and demolition equipment working tirelessly to clear the area. The affected houses are said to have been constructed without proper approvals, violating building codes and posing potential risks to residents.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sNwzMv8eVc
The guy doing the videoing and voice narration is actually a Yoruba dude, so this demolition is affecting Yoruba families in Eti-Osa [In the Yoruba language, Eti-Osa means "Edge of the Lagoon"] as well with their illegally built "property."

Most of these folks of multiple ethnic origins were given orders to STOP construction work but they continued doing so behind the scenes while thinking they could bribe or maneuver their way through like they tried to do on illegally acquired Federal Government lands in FESTAC Extension after the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) had warned them to stop construction work with paint markings of the walls of the buildings. These irresponsible wannabe landlords went ahead and PAINTED over the original FHA paint markings on the buildings and there is CLEAR video evidence (which was posted on one of the threads here on NL) to show that FHA actually warned and painted those illegal houses in FESTAC Extension with paint markings.

Always do your due diligence at the Land's Registry in Lagos, or anywhere you find yourself worldwide when you want to LEASE land for 50 years (like in Ghana for foreigners) or 100 years in Lagos and other states.

Enough said.

The 🇬🇧 UK has landed in second place for the most miserable country in the world.

With house prices skyrocketing and the cost-of-living crisis still in full swing, it's no wonder why Britain probably isn't one of the most desirable places to be at the minute.

Data was collected via the Mental Health Quotient (MHQ) assessment, with scores ranging from -100 to 200.

Scores under zero represent 'distressed or struggling', between zero and 50 meant 'enduring' while between 50 and 100 meant 'managing' and scores between 100 and 200 meant 'succeeding or thriving'.

Out of 71 countries surveyed, the UK took the 70th spot overall for mental wellbeing.

The country has been classified as 'distressed or struggling', after scoring 49 in comparison to the average global score of 65.

Of the people who took part in the UK, 35 percent said they were 'struggling' with their wellbeing.

Those at the bottom of the ranking were Brazil, South Africa, the UK and Uzbekistan.

The study stated: "Overall, the insights in this report paint a worrying picture of our post-pandemic prospects.

"We urgently need to better understand the drivers of our collective mental wellbeing, such that we can align our ambitions and goals with the genuine prosperity of human beings."

Macphenson:
This is a a serious issue. I am an Engineer and majorly into building construction. A lot of my projects are already suspended.

Everything now is terribly expensive. I wonder why nobody is talking about iron rods.
Yesterday I bought a ton of 16mm iron at #1,150, 000 ( localoo not even imported), iron I bought around december at #625, 000. I bought six tons instead of the ten tons I needed for the project.

Marine board is now #23000 for one, what used to be #11, 0000.

30 tons of granite is almost heading to #700, 000.

The last time I went to mushin to buy HDF wood for kitchen cabinet and wardrobe, I went round for about two hours pricing. The prices were ridiculously high that I just entered my car and went home.

I wonder why people are even talking about cement which is the least of the headache while not mentioning iron, granite, marine board etc. This is terribly terrible. About six of my projects have been suspended already and the remaining others are going to be suspended.

Even my clients abroad that I build for, when they change their hard currency and use it to buy materials, they are also feeling the heat of the terrible economy.

nlfpmod:

Flutterwave, Africa’s biggest startup, is shutting down Barter, a virtual card service it launched in 2017, as it focuses on its enterprise and remittance business segments. The fintech told customers to withdraw their money in the app over the past month.

“The decision to sunset Barter was based on a comprehensive analysis of market trends and evolving customer needs,” the fintech shared in a mail with TechCabal.

Flutterwave is doubling down on proven winners by focusing on remittance and enterprise. In October, the fintech told TechCabal enterprise services was its biggest revenue driver. In comparison, Barter only accounted for about 1% of the company’s $2 billion-worth transactions, one of the company’s cofounders told Quartz Africa in 2018.

“While retail remains important to us, our immediate focus is optimizing services for businesses and remittance solutions,” the company said.

Meanwhile, Flutterwave’s remittance products, Send and Swap, aim to capture a significant market share in Africa’s $54 billion remittance market. It is unclear how much progress both.
