VEEKIAGRO: 🌧️ AVOID THESE 10 MISTAKES AFRICAN FARMERS MAKE DURING RAINY SEASON PLANTING
🌍 INTRODUCTION: WHY MANY AFRICAN FARMERS STILL LOSE MONEY DURING RAINY SEASON
The rainy season is often seen as the “golden farming period” in Africa. Fields are green, water is available, and planting opportunities are everywhere.
Yet, despite these advantages, many farmers still experience:
Low yields
Crop failure
Pest infestation
Financial loss
Market disappointment
The reason is not always lack of effort—it is avoidable farming mistakes.
Successful farming is not only about what you do right, but also about what you avoid doing wrong.
This guide highlights the 10 most common rainy season farming mistakes in Africa and how to avoid them to maximize your harvest and profit.
❌ 1. PLANTING TOO EARLY AFTER FIRST RAINFALL 🌧️ The mistake: Many farmers rush to plant immediately after the first rain.
⚠️ Why it is dangerous: First rains are often unstable
Dry spells may follow
Seeds may rot or fail to germinate
✔️ Solution: Wait for 2–3 consistent rains before planting major crops.
❌ 2. IGNORING SOIL PREPARATION 🌱 The mistake: Planting directly without proper land preparation.
⚠️ Consequences: Poor root development
Low nutrient absorption
Reduced yield
✔️ Solution: Always:
Clear land properly
Till soil
Prepare ridges or beds
❌ 3. USING POOR QUALITY OR REUSED SEEDS 🌾 The mistake: Using old, damaged, or recycled seeds.
⚠️ Effects: Weak germination
Disease spread
Low yield potential
✔️ Solution: Use:
Certified seeds
Hybrid or improved varieties
❌ 4. IMPROPER PLANTING SPACING 🌱 The mistake: Overcrowding crops or planting randomly.
⚠️ Consequences: Competition for nutrients
Small crops
Increased disease spread
✔️ Solution: Follow correct spacing:
Maize: 75cm x 25cm
Rice: 20cm x 20cm
Vegetables: crop-specific spacing
❌ 5. POOR WATER MANAGEMENT 🌧️ The mistake: Ignoring water flow and drainage during rainy season.
⚠️ Effects: Waterlogging
Root rot
Fungal diseases
✔️ Solution: Use ridges in flood-prone areas
Build drainage channels
Avoid planting in swampy soil (unless rice farming)
❌ 6. WRONG FERTILIZER APPLICATION 🌿 The mistake: Applying fertilizer at the wrong time or in excess.
⚠️ Consequences: Burning of crops
Waste of money
Poor nutrient absorption
✔️ Solution: Apply fertilizer in stages
Use NPK early and Urea later
Avoid applying on dry soil
❌ 7. IGNORING WEED CONTROL 🌱 The mistake: Allowing weeds to grow freely during early crop stages.
⚠️ Effects: Reduced yield (up to 50% loss)
Poor crop growth
Pest infestation
✔️ Solution: Weed within first 2–4 weeks
Use herbicides or manual weeding
Maintain clean farmland
❌ 8. POOR PEST AND DISEASE CONTROL 🐛 The mistake: Not monitoring crops for pests early.
⚠️ Common threats: Armyworms
Aphids
Stem borers
Fungal diseases
✔️ Solution: Inspect farms weekly
Use approved pesticides
Remove infected plants immediately
❌ 9. PLANTING WITHOUT MARKET PLANNING 💰 The mistake: Growing crops without understanding demand.
⚠️ Consequences: Low selling prices
Post-harvest losses
Market oversupply
✔️ Solution: Before planting:
Study local market demand
Focus on high-value cash crops
Plan harvest timing strategically
❌ 10. POOR POST-HARVEST HANDLING 🌾 The mistake: Neglecting crops after harvest.
⚠️ Effects: Spoilage
Mold growth
Reduced market value
✔️ Solution: Dry crops properly
Store in dry, ventilated areas
Use proper packaging methods
📊 SUMMARY OF COMMON FARMING MISTAKES Mistake Impact Solution Early planting Crop failure Wait for stable rains Poor soil prep Low yield Proper land preparation Bad seeds Weak crops Use certified seeds Wrong spacing Small yield Follow spacing guide Water issues Root rot Improve drainage Fertilizer errors Crop damage Apply in stages Weed neglect Yield loss Early weeding Pest control failure Crop destruction Regular monitoring No market plan Low profit Market research Poor storage Post-harvest loss Proper drying/storage 💡 SMART FARMING STRATEGY FOR RAINY SEASON SUCCESS To succeed in African rainy season farming:
✔️ 1. Plan before planting Know your crops, soil, and market.
✔️ 2. Follow rainfall patterns Do not rush the season.
✔️ 3. Invest in quality inputs Seeds and fertilizer matter.
✔️ 4. Monitor your farm regularly Early detection saves crops.
✔️ 5. Think like a business farmer Farming is agriculture + strategy.
🌾 CONCLUSION: SUCCESSFUL FARMING IS ABOUT AVOIDING COSTLY ERRORS Many African farmers do not fail because they lack effort—but because they repeat preventable mistakes.
Rainy season farming offers huge opportunities, but only for farmers who are:
Careful
Observant
Strategic
Disciplined
If you avoid the mistakes in this guide, you will automatically increase:
Yield
Profit
Stability
Farming success

[quote author=fergie.001 post=139593368]Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed confidence that the voting pattern that saw former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, win Delta State in the 2023 election will not be repeated in 2027.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, Oborevwori attributed Obi’s performance in the state to support from the Christian community and non-indigenous residents, particularly members of the Igbo community.
The governor said his administration has strengthened its relationship with the Igbo community in the state and expressed confidence that they would support the All Progressives Congress, APC, in future elections.
According to him, the Igbo community did not vote against him during the governorship election and has continued to work with his administration in the interest of the state.
Oborevwori also said religious leaders who supported his political move to the APC had prayed for the success of the decision and would continue to support the party ahead of future elections.
He maintained that the factors that contributed to Obi’s victory in Delta during the 2023 presidential election have been addressed, adding that he does not expect a similar outcome in 2027.
The governor said he remains confident that the APC will secure widespread support across the state in the next general election.
He said: “First and foremost, the Igbo community in Delta State that did that in 2023 they never did it during my election, and we are on the same page.
“I’ve told them vote party this time. They will not vote candidates, they will vote party because of the love they have for me.I have that confidence they will vote the APC.
“There are two factors that happen the other time, the Christian community and the Igbo, the non indigenous, but I’ve been able to manage them. The Igbo and I are working together for the interest of the state.
“I also believe that what happened that time would not happen again. This is because the religious leaders, before I move into the APC, we notified them for them to pray for us. So you cannot pray and curse. They have prayed.
fergie001: Federal Government introduces Mandatory Tax ID for all Nigerians
The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), in collaboration with the Joint Revenue Board (JRB), has announced the implementation of a unified Taxpayer Identification (Tax ID) system aimed at strengthening tax administration and improving service delivery across the country.
In a public notice issued in Abuja on Monday, the agencies said the initiative was introduced in line with Sections 6, 7, and 8 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025, which mandates every taxable person in Nigeria to obtain a Tax ID.
According to the notice dated May 18, 2026, the new Tax ID system is designed to create a single, harmonised identity for taxpayers nationwide, enabling seamless interaction with tax authorities at both federal and sub-national levels.
The agencies explained that the initiative forms part of ongoing reforms targeted at improving transparency, simplifying tax processes, enhancing accountability, and reducing leakages within the nation’s tax administration framework.
Under the new arrangement, the Tax ID will consolidate taxpayer records into a unified database, eliminate duplication of records, and ensure more efficient management of tax-related information.
The NRS and JRB highlighted several benefits expected from the implementation of the system, including simplified registration, filing, and payment of taxes, improved visibility and tracking of taxpayer records, enhanced revenue assurance, and harmonisation of taxpayer information across all tiers of government.
They added that the reform would also support better coordination between federal and state tax authorities while making tax compliance easier for individuals, enterprises, and businesses.
The notice further stated that Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), financial institutions, and organisations currently utilising the existing Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) Validation API would now transition to the newly introduced Tax ID system.
To facilitate a smooth migration process, organisations requiring integration or validation services for individuals, enterprises, and business names were directed to contact the Standardisation and Modernisation Department of the JRB, while corporate entities were advised to liaise with the Tax Automation Department of the NRS for access to the Tax ID API and related integration guidelines. Minjim: These people are so consumed by bigotry and the thirst to get their favorite to power, and they don't know when the election is over and governance has begun. This is three years after, and no matter how foolish their decision may look, we are in democracy, the majority will always have their way, and when the elections are over, it is the duty of all to support the winner to succeed because if he/she doesn't, it will affect everyone.
And this is where it gets foolish for these people. Are they saying all SW and Northern regions voted APC in the last general election? Tinubu lost his state and stronghold to the opposition, but you still ridicule the people there for every negativity. But when we have the same in SE, you people are mute. Should we now say killings and crimes in SE are consequences of political choices? Whether we like the winner or not, it's our duty to support the FG to succeed because the FG' s affects the nation. And the only time we have to correct the mistake is in the next election or redo uke ourselves.
endyuzo: The 2027 Lexus TZ is a full-size, three-row, all-electric SUV produced by Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota. It slots above the two-row RZ in the Lexus BEV lineup, making it the brand’s flagship battery-electric offering. Built on a dedicated EV platform with a 3,050 mm wheelbase and flat-floor architecture, it is configured exclusively as a six-seat AWD SUV using Lexus’ DIRECT4 dual-motor system. It rides on the same architecture as the Toyota bZ Highlander but gets a reworked body, a more upscale cabin, and a stronger all-wheel-drive powertrain — making it the first three-row all-electric vehicle in the Lexus lineup.Electric & Plug-In Vehicles
The TZ is offered with two lithium-ion battery options: 76.96 kWh and 95.82 kWh. Lexus estimates that a select trim with the larger battery will achieve an EPA range of roughly 300 miles — this figure is an estimate from Lexus, not yet a certified EPA result. On the charging side, the TZ is expected to feature an 11 kW onboard AC charger, with a 19 kW option available in some markets (unconfirmed for all regions). DC fast charging peaks at 150 kW, with a 10–80% charge taking roughly 35 minutes. The US model uses a NACS port with a Lexus-first 2-in-1 charging design that places AC and DC connectors side by side.
Pricing is not yet confirmed; Edmunds estimates a starting figure around $70,000 and top-spec models up to approximately $90,000. Early industry estimates from other sources peg the entry point closer to $60,000. No pricing has been announced for African or emerging markets, and grey-market availability is unlikely at launch given the model’s novelty. The TZ suits premium family buyers who need three-row seating and are unwilling to compromise on NVH refinement. Within the Lexus BEV range it sits above the RZ 450e and below the full-size LX (combustion). External rivals at a comparable price and segment include the Kia EV9 and the BMW iX xDrive50 — the Kia EV9 is the closest direct comparison by configuration, price band, and three-row EV positioning. The 2027 Lexus TZ is expected to reach North American dealers at the end of 2026, with Europe, Japan, China, and other international markets following in early 2027. https://evcarlatest.com/lexus-tz/

Pakute: Fresh intelligence reports indicate that senior Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, commander, Ba’a Shuwa, has declined to accept a leadership role reportedly proposed by the Islamic State, ISIS, central command in Iraq following the death of veteran commander, Abubakar Mainok, also known as Abu Bilal al-Mainuki.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in Lake Chad region, said he was reliably informed that the development followed Mainok’s reported killing during a joint Nigeria-United States counterterrorism operation in the Lake Chad Region Basin Area, LCRBA, an operation said to have dealt a significant blow to ISWAP’s command structure.
In a post on his X handle on Monday, Makama stated that ISIS central leadership moved quickly to address the vacuum created by Mainok’s death and discreetly contacted influential figures within ISWAP.
Ba’a Shuwa reportedly emerged as one of the preferred candidates for a broader leadership position within the terrorist group.
However, intelligence assessments indicate that the commander has been reluctant to take up the role.
Makama, citing a source familiar with the development, said ISIS leadership had signaled its preference for Ba’a Shuwa after Mainok’s death but that available intelligence suggested he was unwilling to assume the responsibility at this time.
The source attributed the hesitation to growing concerns among senior terrorist leaders over intelligence-driven military operations and precision airstrikes targeting high-value figures in the Lake Chad region.
SlavaUkraini: A former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose has said that nobody is contesting against presidential Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
This is despite the failure of the Tinubu administration to bring under control the security situation in the country with what is happening in Oyo State, the situation in Kwara and other places in the North.
The security situation across the country, coupled with hunger and hardship, has led to questions about the choices before Nigerians ahead of the general elections.
Many presidential candidates have emerged, Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Peter Obi of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, Seyi Makinde of the Allied People Movement, APM, Kachikwu Dumebi of also of the ADC, Esther Okereke of National Rescue Movement, NRM, Omoyele Sowore, among others and Nigerians expect a huge contest come 2027, especially in the Southwest.
While many believe that this would seriously affect the votes of President Tinubu in the region, Fayose told Channels Television that the President is going unopposed.
He said, “Nobody is contesting against Tinubu. You may not like to hear this. There is a difference between reality and noise on social media.
“If the opposition coalition had remained together and were to be in one party against Tinubu, I will say Tinubu will get a run for his money.
“Tinubu is like every Nigerian leader that I believe in, but let me tell you, the moment that they have NDC, and they have ADC, initially they were saying Tinubu was pushing for a one-party state now there are so many parties, they have destroyed their journey by themselves.
It is NOT over until it is over. APC has to urgently sit up at the Federal Government, State Government, and LGA levels to do public surveys and listen to the current needs of the folks in all those States in terms of the effects of the high cost of living (induced by artificial inflation) on urban housing, feeding, transportation, etc, the foreign Fula militia bandits and Tuareg Lakurawa militia bandits attacks on several Nigerian communities in the Hausaland, the Middle Belt and the South West for decades now (including the ISWAP and JNIM of Mali attacks in the Lake Chad region) otherwise they would lose in 2027 due to overconfidence. Period.
The NL poll on this thread is totally baseless to me and has NO correlation to the "Tiger" comments made by this Bwala dude. Any use of gross disinformation by followers of some political parties to manipulate the masses and to openly call for a Military coup online and offline MUST be condemned as it shows that these IRRESPONSIBLE followers do NOT believe in democratic values and the TRUTH.
I remember how the famous "BBC Global Disinformation Team" in the 2022/2023 Presidential election cycle EXPOSED the LP supporters of Peter for deliberately spreading a viral post with a picture which FALSELY stated that the current Vice President Kassim Shettima of Nigeria was eating food with some BH bandits in a widely circulated photograph online. The "BBC Global Disinformation Team" used advanced reverse imaging and more to detect that those Kassim Shettima was eating with were just ordinary herdsmen in Borno State and NOT terrorists. It was an IRRESPONSIBLE and desperate attempt to "demarket" Kassim Shettima because they wanted their own candidate to win the Presidential election.
The BBC Global Disinformation Team was set up to FACT-CHECK online stories due to the FACT that a few years back, the official BBC website was cloned and used to spread disinformation and it was ONLY after 21 days that BBC knew about the fake website after being alerted by loyal BBC listeners.
PRESIDENT TINUBU COMMENDS THE NAVY FOR SEVEN DECADES OF PROVIDING MARITIME SECURITY, COMMISSIONS THREE VESSELS
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday, commended the Nigerian Navy for its seven decades of commitment and sacrifice in safeguarding Nigeria's maritime domain and protecting the nation's economic interests.
He spoke at the 2026 International Fleet Review held at the Eko Atlantic Waterfront, Lagos, as part of events to commemorate the Navy’s 70th Anniversary. President Tinubu also commissioned three Nigerian Naval vessels: NNS Oloibiri, NNS Mambila, and NNS Gurara.
As reviewing officer at the event, President Tinubu praised the Navy’s achievements in combating piracy, crude oil theft, illegal fishing, maritime smuggling, and other transnational crimes in the Gulf of Guinea.
He specifically lauded the Navy’s sustained efforts against crude oil theft and maritime criminality, noting that these operations have significantly boosted oil production, improved national revenue, and strengthened investor confidence in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
"Beyond the maritime domain, I also commend the Nigerian Navy for its contributions to counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations across the country. The courage and professionalism demonstrated by the Special Boat Service in executing complex missions are truly commendable.
"More so, with the recent induction of the Nigerian Navy Marines into operational theatres, I am confident that even greater successes will be recorded. Indeed, the Nigerian Navy has become an indispensable pillar of both national and regional security,’’ the President said.
President Tinubu thanked friendly nations and foreign navies for attending the International Fleet Review, describing the event as a testament to growing international cooperation for maritime security and collective prosperity.
He noted that the Nigerian Navy has evolved into a formidable maritime force whose operational successes have significantly enhanced security within Nigeria’s territorial waters and contributed to regional and international maritime stability.
"Nigeria’s maritime domain, endowed with immense natural wealth, remains a vital pillar of our national economy, serving as a major source of foreign exchange and a critical artery for global trade. I commend the Nigerian Navy for its steadfast guardianship of this strategic space.
"Through the effective integration of surveillance systems, rapid response mechanisms and robust enforcement operations, you have successfully eradicated piracy in our waters and significantly curtailed crude oil theft and associated maritime crimes. These achievements have enhanced the security of our littoral communities and contributed to increased oil production, thereby supporting national economic growth.
"Your theme for this milestone event, 'Seven Decades of Operational Excellence,' is not merely a slogan, but a proven reality. As we look to the future, I am confident that the Nigerian Navy will sustain this momentum and continue to secure the maritime environment as a thriving engine of our blue economy,’’ he said.
President Tinubu further acknowledged the Navy’s collaboration with other security agencies, regional partners, and international allies in ensuring the Gulf of Guinea remains safer for commercial shipping and maritime activities.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the Navy’s operational capabilities through continued investment in modern platforms, advanced technology, personnel welfare, training, and capacity development.
The President congratulated the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, officers, ratings, veterans, and families of Nigerian Navy personnel on this historic milestone, urging them to remain steadfast in their commitment to duty, patriotism, and service to the nation.
Vice Admiral Abbas noted that the Navy’s successes in recent years were made possible by strategic investments, policy support, and strong leadership from the President.
He highlighted that the acquisition of modern platforms, enhanced surveillance capabilities, and sustained collaboration among security agencies have significantly strengthened Nigeria’s maritime security architecture.
He added that these interventions have enabled the Nigerian Navy to intensify efforts against piracy, crude oil theft, illegal fishing, sea robbery, and other transnational maritime crimes within the Gulf of Guinea.
Dignitaries present included former Governor of Ogun State and Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, Sen. Gbenga Daniel (representing the Senate President); Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Kwara State Governor and Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq; Chairman, House Committee on Navy, Yusuf Gagdi; Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd); Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

At no point did the Yoruba accept to play a second fiddle.
Right from the 1st Republic, Yoruba led by late Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, accepted to be the Head of opposition rather than play second fiddle to the north.
In fact, it is only the Yoruba that have the wherewithal to take on traditional Northern political bloc and but for Yoruba in the South and North central, those Northerners you percieve as your political superior would have made a political mincemeat of your SS and SE regions today.
On Pa Obj, whatever political liabilities he carries are his and his alone. In 1999, the choice of the Yoruba for Presidency was actually Chief Bola Ige then Chief Falae but the Yoruba political establishment was so powerful and formidable that it insisted that Nigeria's Presidency must be Yoruba. The Yoruba got that, waited strategically and today produce one with the pragmatic Awoist progressive politics.

‘No Amount Of Bitterness Can Alter Reality’ — Atiku Blasts Babachir Over ADC Primary Election Claims
The media office of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, of allowing “post-primary bitterness” to cloud his judgement following his criticism of the presidential primaries of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting that “no amount of post-primary bitterness can alter reality.”
The position was contained in a statement signed and released by Phrank Shaibu, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to the Presidential Candidate of the ADC, Atiku Abubakar, in response to comments made by Babachir over the outcome of the party’s recent presidential election process.
“The 2027 election will not be decided by tantrums, ethnic dog whistles, recycled grievances, or revisionist history. It will be decided by the Nigerian people. And no amount of post-primary bitterness can alter that reality,”
The Atiku media office said Babachir’s remarks amounted to “a lengthy and emotionally charged outburst” and described his allegations against the primary election as unfounded.
“Ordinarily, Mr. Lawal’s latest excursion into political fiction would not merit a response. However, having chosen to malign a democratic process, insult thousands of ADC members nationwide, and make grave allegations without presenting a shred of evidence, it has become necessary to set the record straight,” the statement said.
The statement argued that it was ironic for Babachir to present himself as an advocate of transparency and democratic values, given the circumstances surrounding his exit from public office.
“It is perhaps the greatest irony of this entire episode that Mr. Babachir Lawal now seeks to reinvent himself as Nigeria’s newest apostle of integrity, transparency, and democratic virtue. Nigerians may forgive many things, but they seldom forget history.
“Mr. Lawal is not remembered for any celebrated crusade for accountability. Rather, he remains one of the most prominent public officials ever removed from office under the cloud of the infamous grass-cutting contract scandal.”
According to the statement, Babachir’s public service record makes his criticism of the ADC primary process difficult to reconcile.
“It is therefore remarkable that a man whose public service career became synonymous with questions of conflict of interest and abuse of office now wishes to lecture Nigerians on electoral integrity.
“That one of the most recognizable faces from that era now seeks to occupy the moral high ground is not merely ironic; it is political satire writing itself.”
The Atiku camp insisted that the ADC presidential primaries were conducted across thousands of wards and produced what it described as a clear and decisive outcome.
“The truth is straightforward. The ADC presidential primaries were conducted across thousands of wards and produced a clear and decisive outcome.
“What Mr. Lawal has offered Nigerians is not evidence. He has produced no documents, no verifiable facts, no credible witnesses, and no proof whatsoever to support his sensational allegations.”
The statement further accused Lawal of relying on conspiracy theories and personal attacks instead of presenting facts.
“Instead, he has served up a familiar cocktail of disappointment, bitterness, conspiracy theories, and personal attacks against a political leader whose national appeal continues to transcend the narrow confines of factional politics.”
The Atiku media office also highlighted what it described as contradictions in Lawal’s position on electoral malpractice.
“Even more revealing is the contradiction at the heart of his statement. In one breath, he condemns what he calls electoral manipulation. In the next, he openly admires and celebrates what he describes as President Tinubu’s ‘superior rigging machine.’
“Nigerians are therefore entitled to ask a simple question: if rigging is indeed an unforgivable crime, why does Mr. Lawal appear almost fascinated by it when he imagines it might serve his preferred political outcome?”
The statement further accused Lawal of resorting to ethnic and religious sentiments after failing to secure support for his preferred candidate.
“Perhaps the most troubling aspect of his outburst is his resort to ethnic and religious prejudice. Having failed to persuade ADC members to embrace his preferred candidate, he now seeks refuge in the divisive politics of identity.”
According to the statement, such rhetoric does nothing to address the pressing challenges confronting Nigerians.
“Such rhetoric neither unites Nigeria nor addresses the hardship confronting ordinary citizens. It creates no jobs, lowers no food prices, secures no communities, and offers no pathway out of the national crisis.”
The Atiku camp also questioned Lawal’s acceptance of the ADC governorship primary outcome in Adamawa State, where his cousin, Omar Suleiman, reportedly emerged as the party’s governorship candidate.
“Mr. Lawal has also failed to explain how the very same primary process he now dismisses as fraudulent somehow produced a result he appears perfectly willing to accept in Adamawa State, where his cousin, Omar Suleiman, emerged as the ADC governorship candidate.
“Nigerians are entitled to ask whether the process was only credible when it favoured his family and only rigged when it produced a presidential candidate he did not support.”
The statement described Lawal’s position as “selective outrage,” arguing that he embraced outcomes that favoured his interests while rejecting those that did not.
On Lawal’s criticism of Atiku’s family, the media office dismissed the issue as irrelevant to the concerns of ordinary Nigerians.
“His attack on Atiku Abubakar’s family is equally unfortunate and entirely irrelevant. Nigerians understand the difference between family and public office.
“What concerns ordinary citizens today is not how many children a politician has, but how many children are going to bed hungry.”
The statement maintained that Nigerians were more concerned about economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and the rising cost of living than personal attacks on political figures.
Defending Atiku, the statement said Nigerians were familiar with his public service record, business achievements and commitment to national unity.
"The Nigerian people know Atiku Abubakar. They know his record in public service. They know his achievements in business. They know his commitment to national unity and economic reform.
“They know he remains one of the few political leaders whose appeal cuts across ethnicity, religion, geography, and social class.”
The Atiku camp argued that Lawal’s dissatisfaction stemmed not from the conduct of the primary election but from its outcome.
“What appears to have truly unsettled Mr. Lawal is not the conduct of the primaries but the outcome. Democracy guarantees participation, not victory.
“One cannot celebrate democracy when it produces a preferred result and suddenly condemn it as rigged when it does not.”
In one of the statement’s most pointed remarks, the Atiku media office suggested that Lawal’s return to his village farm was fitting given his association with the grass-cutting scandal.
“As for Mr. Lawal’s decision to retreat to his village farm, we sincerely wish him well. Given his enduring association with the grass-cutting scandal that defined his exit from public office, the farm may indeed be a fitting destination.
“There, surrounded by fields in need of trimming, he may finally find the grass-cutting assignment that has become inseparable from his political legacy.”
The statement concluded by insisting that the 2027 election would be decided by Nigerians and not by “tantrums, ethnic dog whistles, recycled grievances, or revisionist history.”
“While others manufacture conspiracies, Atiku Abubakar remains focused on solutions. While others traffic in bitterness, he remains committed to national unity,” the statement added
DoTheNeedful: There is a subset of Northerners, mostly Fulani, who believe in the supremacy of the North over the South, and the supremacy of the Fulanis over other Northerners. These people deeply understand and imbibe Ahmadu Bello's philosophy of politically dominating the South.
From what I have seen on social media, many of Atiku's Northern supporters belong to this subset. Obasanjo, as the president of Nigeria, allegedly prostrated for Atiku to allow him run second term. Atiku insulted Jonathan to his face in 2011, telling him not to contest because it was the turn of the North. He would later defect from PDP to be among the founders of APC. The same Atiku contested to be president just as Buhari, a Fulani man, was completing 8 years. Obasanjo begging Atiku for a second term clearly showed that Atiku dangled his Fulani credentials in his face. Atiku is a Fulani supremacist deceiving the gullible as a detribalized Nigerian. Tambuwal, El-rufai and Buhari are other examples of Northern supremacists.
Contrary to what they might want to make you believe, Atiku still does not have a widespread appeal in the North. Most of the people cheering Atiku's presidency in the North are the Fulanis.
The post made by this Kwankwasiyya dude reeks of a Northern supremacist, who could not wrap his head around a RMK deputizing an Obi. To people like him Northerners should always be president, and they must decide whoever and whenever a Southerner should be a president. One of the problems the Northern establishment has currently with Tinubu is that they cannot control him after they reluctantly put him in power. By the way, he still had to bribe them with a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
One of the reasons this superiority mindset in the North has remained is because some Southerners have bought into it. I shake my head in disappointment when I read comments from some myopic Southerners on social media saying something like: "The North have decided to take power back". Statements like this cave to such Northern supremacy mindset; they also reek of Southern inferiority.
The good news is that the North of today is no longer the North Ahmadu Bello handed over to them. They are not as united as they used to be. The long played-out Fulani domination has weakened the cohesion among the various ethnic and religious groups in the North. The Tiv man from Benue or the Berom man from Plateau is more suspicious of a Fulani man from Sokoto than his grandfather was in 1965.
This lack of cohesion is something a united South can capitalize on. With all the popularity of Buhari in 2015, if the SW had voted for Jonathan enmass, Jonathan would still have won. Peter Obi's performance in 2023 also shows a pathway to presidency without massive votes from the Fulani-dominated states.
If Atiku run in 2027 and amass large votes in the North, I would suggest we present and unite behind a Southerner in 2031 to contest against the Northerners.
Post Quote "Contrary to what they might want to make you believe, Atiku still does NOT have a widespread appeal in the "North." Most of the people cheering Atiku's presidency in the North are the Fulanis."
"Succinctly stated"... You have a near-perfect knowledge of the Nigerian geopolitical dynamics from your post ABOVE." Indeed, MOST of the people rooting for the Atiku's presidency in the North are the minority Fulanis of foreign origin, NOT even the majority indigenous Hausa people of the North West or the Kanuris, or the indigenous Middle Belt ethnic groups. Period.
chopnaira: A Kwankwasiyya named Abubakar Yunusa gives reason why he is leaving the Kwakwansiyya movement.
From today, I am leaving the Kwankwasiyya movement, God willing. I spent 17 years in it, and under Kwankwaso I received free education. The issue is not because of Sardauna; rather, I have been deeply troubled since the day Kwankwaso agreed to become Peter Obi's Vice Presidential candidate.
This is a humiliation to us and a disrespect to the political standing of Northern Nigeria—that Kwankwaso would agree to be Obi's Vice President. Who is Obi even in the South, let alone in the North? How many comrades, lawmakers, senators, and governors has he produced or mentored through his political structure in this country?
Today, I have reached my limit and can finally express what has been in my heart. Just as our leader organized scholarship programs and carried out charitable works for us, may Allah bless him and reward him with nothing but Paradise.
