The tobacco had taken off the edge i felt around Ifeoma and as such, our conversation became less guarded as I relaxed around her and our topics began from discussions on major global issues (she had this uncanny ability to analyze trends with surgical precision) and had progressed from there to less monumental topics... Like our current conversation for example.

I recognized Benedict and Paul, the DAG (the 5th in command) amidst the crowd, they were the only familiar faces there and i went to them. Paul gave me a curious look and asked where my weapon was and i responded with confused silence. Seeing how lost i looked, he laughed and handed me a swiss knife and told me to return it when we were done. I would later find out that Paul had a reputation, of sorts, of always being armed (i would later make it a habit of jokingly calling him DAGger 5).

I was just coming back from lectures, so i was still dressed so running down there was a swift affair. On getting there, i saw that other warbians had clustered the area, male and female, roughly 15 of them, some carrying crossbags and other wearing baggy sweaters that bulged at odd angles when they moved about... They were concealing something beneath those sweaters. A trickle of sweat slid down my neck and my nervousness cranked up to eleven. Why did they look like they were gearing up for a fight?

Roughly a week after getting the form, i got a call from the chief training officer (CTO), prior to this, my only taste of man o' war had been the compulsory 5 AM morning drills that was conducted every monday, wednesday and saturday at the training base. I was a bit stumped at the phone call, the CTO was the third in command, surely he had better things to do than to give a recruit a courtesy call? I answered the phone, but before i could get a word out, i was ordered to run down to the traffic light outside school.

Another thing with the 24/7 bush bar was how secluded it was. Many a number of assassinations had been planned in this very bar and it was a neutral ground for illegal business to take place... For a fee of course. Ifeoma was on her third blunt of Arizona and her fourth bottle of Legend and she didn't sound (or look) ready to call it quits. I was half done with my pack of Oris cigarettes (not my brand of choice, but it was the best they had) and on my second can of Monster.

CHAPTER SEVEN: 24/7 was a place i had discovered by accident. It was a little over a year ago, when the house i had been building for my parents was in its finishing stages. It had been an off day for me, and i used the opportunity to conduct a hasty site inspection on the building which i had just started roofing. It was a small bush bar, constructed with clay and palm fronds for a roof and lay along one of the numerous dirt roads that branched off the main highway. They sold all sorts of beer, even brands that i wasn't aware of, and lived up to their reputation as a bush bar with a variance of bush meat available in peppersoup, roasted and even fried. Their meats ranged from the common like grasscutter and rabbit to the eyebrow raising like monkeys and the downright bizzare, like snake meat.

My silence played a factor in this as people, in an effort to fill the bouts of silence that occured between us, revealed more about their personalities and thus giving me a better mental map on how to steer them in the direction that I wanted. With Ifeoma though, the status quo was thrown right into the furnace, she was random and as such, i couldn't get a read on her. I snapped out of my internal musing to give my bosses daughter a lopsided half smile, "No wahala".

An 'eloquent' "Ummm..." escaped my lips and Ifeoma gave me a patient smile, "Bros, free yourself, i'm not going to eat you". To be frank, i had no experience with girls beyond my initial attraction to Jibola as i was more or less a recluse during my secondary and tertiary years. My interactions with Ifeoma served the function of constantly reminding me of my ineptitude in interacting with the female gender. Now, this didn't really embarass me as much as one would think, but it bothered me on a fundamental level. One of the reasons i had fallen into the employ of chief Uzodinma in the first place was as a result of the fact that he recognized my innate talent in managing people. To manage people, required understanding them and i had developed a system of understanding people by observing their mannerisms, the way they talked, carried themselves, things that irritated them, interested them, that kind of thing.

"I know a place on the outskirts, it's in a rural area, but it meets your requirements" i finally said. Ifeoma gave me a long, flat stare before letting out an exaggerated sigh, "Are you going to keep talking like this?" she grumbled. I blinked, utterly confused. Her eyes rolled in irritation at my confoundment, "Shey e clear u say na date we dey on laidis? Why are you talking like my P.A or something?". I didn't have an answer to that.

I tried for a smile. but quickly abandoned the idea, I was sure it would come out looking like a grimace anyway. I settled for an amiable half smirk instead, and considering the sheer oddity of the situation, one could say that this situation was anything but normal.

I don't think too many bosses would fancy their staff going out on private outings with their wards after all.

I locked my thoughts on the unusual nature of what was going on away and cleared my throat.

"Sorry... I blanked out there a bit, what were you saying?"

She gave me a flat look, before checking herself out, the flat look became a coy smile, "I was asking if you knew any lowkey joints in town... a place where the chances of me being recognized would be difficult"

I mulled over the question for some moments, i had learnt never to rush into answering a question regardless of the fact of whether I knew the answer or not, afterall, choosing one's words took time.

In a bid to deliver a hasty answer, it is not beyond the realm of possibility to use unfitting words to describe or explain what you intended to if you were fortunate enough to realize your mistake, you'd be forced to back track and further embarass yourself in a bid to clarify what you said.

Stumbling over your own words was a whole level of incompetence on its own, Ifeoma took after her father the most of all her siblings, and I didn't think she'd appreciate an answer that wasn't well thought out.

With the state government on their backs, the two frats decided to cut their losses and a truce was called for. After some negotiations, the two frats worked out a calendar of sorts, with the mafioso collecting the 'security levies' for the first semester and the klans collecting for the second semester. And that's that, lives lost just because a pack of idle students considered extorting campus businesses their 'right' and were insulted just because someone else had dipped fingers into the pie.

Seeing the odds, the mafioso took a trick out of their old rule book and employed the services of a few street gangs to run intel on klan hideouts. Two more klans were dropped and two more mafioso went down before the state anti cultism unit began a crackdown on well known klan and maf neighbourhoods

Continued... With this ballsy attack on high level bobo personalities (the dos and the face), the klansmen doubled down on their defences and calls were made to their mother plantation (equivalent of a viking deck, nbm temple etc) in unical for reinforcements. A mother plantation HIT squad of five Ave's arrived and surveillance was placed on maf activity. Within the coming week, two mafioso were dropped, their right hands chopped off and placed on their corpses with the five fingers stretched out befor rigor mortis would set in. A clear sign that the klansmen would not twiddle their thumbs whilst being butchered.

I wouldn't advise engaging him sir, the problem with these 'shit for brains' types is their lack of comprehension skills. He is either too much of a bull headed half literate or just one of the usual weekly derailers. Either way, i made the first mistake of giving him attention. Let it end at that, he seems to enjoy frothing at the mouth, let him be.

Continued... With the mafioso finally unveiling their hand in the murder of the four klansmen. The bobos were thrown in for a loop, they were not ready for a war and efforts were made on their part to find out the cause of the attacks but that was an exercise in futility. All bobos were advised to pipe low and all was quiet for a week until the Sons attacked the then director of socials and the face of the school (all those pageantry people will understand) who were both klansmen. The director of socials took off whilst the face sustained a gunshot wound before managing to escape with his life.

The Sons had predicted that the klansmen would be burnt out from just coming out of a war where they had to be smarter than their opponents and as such would be too emotionally and mentally spent to mount a reasonable counter attack. This saw to the killing of four klansmen within the space of three days with the fourth one being butchered whilst waiting for his girlfriend. It was this fourth death that saw the mafioso finally come out to take responsibility for the killings as calls of 'Ciao Sons!!!' rent the air whilst they butchered the klansmen before throwing his mutilated body into a nearby ravine.

The vikings had the numbers advantage whilst the klansmen had the advantage of being more prudent than the reckless baggers but losses were still heavy on both sides. When peace was finally sued for, Cosa Nostra began making preparations of their own and barely a month after the bagger/bobo peace treaty, the mafioso struck.

The mafioso were humiliated by this incursion/supplanting by the klansmen and as such swore to avenge the insult. The kk had the numbers advantage by a slight margin but that had never stopped them before. The first order of business for the mafioso, was to damage the kk morale, three externals were called in from absu and they were the ones who would stab the klansman within an inch of his life. After the attack, the external then echoed 'aromate' effectively pinning the blame on the svc, the klans retaliated against the vikings and the vikings, seeing it as an unprovoked attack, replied in kind and that was how the whole thing degenerated into full blown war.

Fast forward to a few months later, cosa nostra declared war on the kk over control of whom collected 'security levies' from the numerous businesses on campus (food vendors, saloons, business centres etc).
Now, for the twist, this tussle of who gets the funds from the campus businesses had been brewing for quite sometime starting from the election of the sug president some months prior. Cosa Nostra had been in charge of this extortion scheme for years now and the new sug president was a klansman and with his ascent to power had changed the status quo, he put his fellow bobos in charge of the scheme, boldly supplanting them from a money making venture that was virtually their 'entitlement' at this point.

Sometime mid last year, there was a cult clash between the svc and the kk in a particular uni in the south. The cause of the problem apparently, was an altercation between a bobo and bagger in the school mini stadium which resulted in the bobo being stabbed multiple times in the neck with a pen. However, when peace talks were called for and the leadership of the aforementioned frats began to discuss, the baggers denied the allegation that one of their men stabbed the bobo. Naturally, tempers flared and the meeting became heated until one of the calmer klansmen finally asked his colleagues for the identity of the bagger that kick started the whole thing. One of the klansmen who had been there stated that he did not recognize the bagger but after the stabbing, he echoed out 'aromate' and rolled out with his two cartel men. The baggers requested for a description of the guy which the witnesses gave, only for the baggers to remain resolute that they knew no such person.

Exmilitant:
You guys are overstretching the word cultism. cultism became dirty when it was introduce on the streets. And the first cult group to roll cultism into the streets were the vikings in 1994 at sandfield Borokiri, Portharcourt. They were called beaches and later deywell. The vikings did this in order to counter the dominance of dof pirates in uniport then. The klansmen who broke away from the ayes also established their street gang in 1998 and called them deybam. The ayes and birdmen eiye, had their boys on the streets in the early 2000s, but some argue it was ealier than that saying it was in the late 1990s. Having laid this premise, i want to give a concise exposè on cultism in Nigeria and how it got this ugly...... Please my write ups here is for intelligent minds. Minds who do not see things in black and white.
Okay... I'm all ears
