Seriously... this is getting out of hand.... I have been extorted past 500 naira by the NPF in Nsk within the last one week... I dont seem to understand what is it again. they hold you down and delay until you pay 50 naira before they let you leave. Yesterday i was able to get the name of the officer that collected the money from me. i got his number too, but i lost it, couldnt cram well to remeber it but I still remember his name. i have complained at the twitter account of the police force, but nothing has been done and no reply from them. plz if anyone knws where to report outside this nsk (cos am sure the police head in nsk is fully aware of the extortion) shld plz let me knw...

Good day fellas... I didnt mean to sound racist or to show any superiority of the white skin, but I just want to come out plain, to get you guys view on this issue that have been bothering me for quite sometime. As a matter of fact, am a Nigerian and proud to be black skinned... No regret on any sort. Now straight to the point (sorry, my points might be cut and join).
Is it that the white men are better than us or did God give them a better priviledge/brain than the black men or did the black race decided to make themselves perpetually inferior to the white race. I dont seem to understand, but when you look around the world, everything around us points to the fact that the white men are far better than the black men. Take for instance, in terms of technology, the Black Men have nothing to write home about, though I know of some great inventions that were invented by black men but in actual sense, the white men has the majority in terms of invention. Even with all the education that we have at our disposal these days, we still cant get to invent something unique(stand to be corrected), all we just do is buy and use the latest technology produced by them even they themselves dont freak about it like we do..
Secondly, an average black man thinks of how to enrich and better himself and his family without wanting to sacrifice for the good of the society at large. Its difficult seeing an average black man trying to go on a quest that will benefit the world at large. Just like one of my science lecturer once said, "that if the world were to be inhibited by the black race alone, that no human would have landed on the moon even by the 50th century. He went further to add that, he a black man die mysteriously or on his way to a new/secluded place, the black men will say that he was killed by the gods or attach spiritual explanation to his death. but if its the white men, they will definitely find out what killed him"... Though I took his comment as a racist, but now am beginning to understand the intrinsic meaning behind his statement. Look at the countries that is being inhibited by the black race, most (if not all) are in a great mess (even those outside the shores of the Africa) despite the numerous and overwhelming natural resources under their disposal. I know most of you will say that its the white men that is exploiting the blacks, but why cant the blacks think things their own way and keep the white men at bay from interfering in the management of their countries.
Sometimes, I get mad at some of our forefathers that one way or the other enhanced the slave trade... What did the white men give to them or where did they keep their brain that they decided to sell their fellow black men for some cheap items/money and saw nothing wrong in it. Also, what were they doing when the white men were busy voyaging the earth traveling from one continent to the other. Till date, most black men loss their senses when they encounter a white man. I have been to places and I have seen how black men pay serious respect to white men... Was in P/Harcourt during my service year, I used to see how Nigerian Army bu*t-lick that of the white men and they dont do same to rich(even richer) black Nigerians... I just wonder what is really wrong with the black race.
I was watching a documentary on "The Raising of The Concorda"... Its about a ship that partially sank off the coast of Italy. There were more than 50 scientist from different countries that came around to raise the ship from its sinking state. Before the project was started, one of the leading engineer in the project was interviewed... He was like "he is happy to be among the team that will perform the project, not because of any reward, but because of the experience he will get from the state of the art technology/method that will be developed and employed to lift the ship".... After the project, I was really marveled at how the ship was raised. I know, if it were to be an all black men engineers that will handle the project, one wouldn't be surprised when the start demand for a very huge pay. Just take a look at what happened in the last world cup. Three out of five African team protested over their allowance. (though I dont blame only the players, but also the national body of those countries that failed in their own part). This is a tournament that players dream to participate in, and to make matters worse, almost 70-80% of the protesting players earn much more than their allowance in their respective club side, but they will rather want to collect all the money they can lay their hands on than properly represent their country in the tournament.
Lastly, we all know the that white men have witches/black magic. But you hardly see their witches going on blood sucking spree or sending death charm from one location to another to kill some one just because he has progressed in life than him/her.
All these things, just make me wonder if its the same brain and mentality that the creator gave all of us or is theirs far better than ours....

Seems like you are trying to be tribalistic here. Which part of the road do you main. Front of your house or the main motorable road. Moreover, who goes about sweeping the motorable road if not paid sweepers.

I dont seem to understand what is happening these days. I could remember sometime back, the IG of police gave an order than all police road blocks should be dismantled. But, the rate at which the road blocks are coming back is alarming. Aside the northern part of the country, where road blocks are justifiable due to the security situation over there, I seem not to understand why the police decided to disobey the order of the IG by setting up road blocks in the southern part of the country esp the south east where I was recently (I have not being to the S/West and I have not seeing police check in S/South except for military checkpoint in the states that I have being to). Road blocks by the police seems to be everywhere, not just the road blocks, but the extortion on motorist by the police.Just yesterday in Nsukka area of Enugu state, I was driving a bike when I was stopped by the some policemen. I wasnt the only person stopped, but once you are stopped, you either give out 50 naira or get your key taken by the police. When I was stopped, I immediately removed the key from my bike before the officer approached me, the following conversation ensued...

Officer-- Hand me your key.
Me-- I Cant give you my key, what did I do?
Officer-- Is like you want to play with fire abi
Me-- I dont want to play with fire, thats why I want to knw what I did.
Officer-- Am a police officer, and am ordering you to give me your key.
Me-- I cant, not until you tell me wat I did.
Oficer-- Cant you see what other bikers are doing.
Me-- Am seeing it, but I cant do what others are doing until I fully understand what they are doing.
Officer-- Is like you want to go to station.
Me-- I dont want to go to station cos I knw we can settle this right now.
Officer-- Good, you are to give me 3 thousand if you want to go (this is because he sensed I was new to town).
Me-- I cant give you any money, even if I want to, I dont have that much.
Officer-- Ok, Give me 2 thousand...
Me-- I brought out 20 naira, folded it and handed it over to him, but he refused collecting it.
Officer-- Its like you are playing with me, you will follow me to the station now.

Being ready for the worst that will happen, I sat on my bike and started going through my contact list to see who I can call for help... After about fifteen minutes, he came up to me and said I should go but I should try and do like others. So I just handed the 20 naira to him and left... All along as I was being delayed, okada riders that went pass that road had to part with 50 naira each. How is this thrend seen as a normal thing in Nigeria in this age when we all want to do away with coruption. Though, I dont blame the officers at times, but I blame the okada riders who are ever willing to bribe the officers. Assuming the first 50 bikes that were stopped by the police refused to pay, by the time the road gets filled with bike and causes traffic, the police will have no option than to let them go.
Though I tried to see if I can copy the number and name of any of the officers, but they were all wearing their inner police polo with no number attached to it. That means, they knw what they are doing. Its high time the police commission come up with a way to stop the daily extortion by police officers...

Its good never to turn the other side when bad things happen... I was able to bombard the twitter handle of the NPF and also sent a message to the CP of Enugu. Seems like he(they) responded to my report. For the past 3 weeks, I have not come across or seen any police check where they collect money from motorist(okada) here in Nsukka. I think, if the police force respond swiftly to report/complaint like this, and if the citizens of Nigeria take their time to report what ever negative attitude displayed by the police, I think we might see a change in the police force. Am happy that through my effort, some okada men wont have to worry about police extortion in Nsukka(esp btw the 2 UNN gate)... at least for the main time... You never can tell what you can change until you take a step...

An Open Letter to all employers (govt/private/multinationals) and recruitment agencies.
I am writing this letter to you all (all firms that recruit graduates/employees both in the public and private sector and also to all recruitment/human resource agencies).
I am not writing this letter because am frustrated with the Nigerian unemployment problem, but because of your recruitment processes that leaves an average Nigerian graduate frustrated. Let me just go straight to the point.
First of all, I will want to thank you all for atleast, trying to employ me/us (Nigerian graduate) by your numerous job opening advert that are all over the net and on our dailies. But my problem with you all (well lets say some of you) is that your recruitment process takes longer than the "construction of enugu onitsha-express way" before we get reply from you all after applying.
How do you explain the fact that you advertise for an opening and I/we (graduates) with high hopes and expectation, only for you to keep me/us waiting just as "Nigeria have been waiting for a stable electricity supply"... Sometimes, you call us for interviews, which we attend and believing that we performed very well, but we hardly get to know the outcome of the interview, there wont be any reply from you, stating wheater we passed or failed, you just keep us waiting only to hear that some people have just resumed work. How you shortlisted those new staff of yours, no one gets to know. A case study is the waec EO/AEO recruitment exercise that was done in the second half of last year, Rumour has it that some people has resume work, but a good number of applicant have been waiting for a reply even if its a "we regret to inform you that you were not shortlisted" mail, nothing showed. Atleast for the applicant to know his fate.
Some of us have applied to numerous job openings, to the extent that if you search our surname in google, you will get to see our biodata/CV as the search result, but the funny thing there is that, you did not even bother to reply some of the appliations that we made, either to tell us that we passed or to say sorry that our application was acknowleged but we were not shortlisted, something that only some multinational/international firms do. And sometimes, we get a reply after most of us have forgotten that we even applied to that particular firm. Most time, some of us just wonder if actually the recruitment is real. I bet, proper recruitment planning will help solve some of this delays.

Secondly, this is more like an appeal to you all... There are so many graduates with different class of degree seeking for an employment opportunity in Nigeria, but a good percentage of them, probably due to their background or environment have lost hope in getting the job of their dream... some are due to their class of degree probably because they made 2.2/lower credit and below. Some of these graduates with 2.2/lower credits and below are really genuis and good spirited, but probably because of some situation beyond their control while in school, they couldnt perform well.
My point is, why not try and give them an equal opprtunity with their counter parts that made 2.1/upper credit and above in having a career with you.
Advertising a job opening and stating clearly that it is for 2.1/upper credit and above is really demoralizing esp for good and hardworking graduates who have a lesser grade of degree. I(we) know you may have a reason for stating a minimum of 2.1/upper credit as the requirement, one of which might be population control, but for the sake of well spirited Nigerian graduates who didnt meet that class of degree during their school days, try and make it open for all degree holders, irrespective of class, then let the best who made it through your interviews/test be employed into your organization.
But, if over population will really be a concern to you, why not shorten the application time frame, say 3days after the advertisement, the application portal would then be closed or probably after a certain number of desired applicant have been reached... say the first 200 or 500 or 1000 graduates to apply, then the portal would be closed.
This initiative will help boost the morale of the average Nigerian graduates with a lower class of degree as most of them will now have the hope of working with the numerous multinational firms that mainly demand a minimum requiremnt of 2.1/upper credit.


Thirdly, you all should try and make recruitment process easy and stress-free... I once got an invitation for an interview/test with a brewery in Lagos on 24th 2013. I was really taken aback when I saw the date of the interview/test. This is an offer that am sure graduate across the Nation applied for, now telling us to come for an interview/test on the 24th of december, knowing fully well how busy Nigerian roads and trasnport sector used to be days before or after christmass is like telling some one to delibrately put his life at stake.
Also, let the test venue be decentralized, and not just held in a particular state. I must commend dragnet, who were able to organize series of CBTest for a particular firm in almost 6 states in Nigeria. I(we) was(were) given the option of chossing my(our) test venue and time, this not only made it easy for me(us), but helped us to cut transportation cost/risk of having to travel far place for the interview/test. A case study is the last CBTest held in UNILAG on 10th May, which was organized by one recuritment agency (name witheld), though the SMS notification came in early enough and the CBTest was professionally organised, but I didnt make it to the test as I am based in Kano and I do not know anybody in lagos neither do I have much resource to be able to lodge in an hotel. Assuming the test venue was decentralized, just as Dragnet did theirs, am pretty sure so many people in my shoe would have made it to the test venue stress-free and at little or no cost.
Lastly, I do not want to talk about the issue of asking young unemployed graduates who have no source of income to pay a token for purchase of card used in online recruitment. This is because those who are guilty of this is the govt agencies/organization who are supposed to protect the interest of Nigerians. Its dis-heartening for a federal govt parastatal to advertise for a job and demand for a specified amount (some to the tone of #4500) to be paid for purchase of form.Not that all those who applied will be shortlisted, some times there wont be any reply from the agency and no one knows what the govt used the money for the form to do. Its a case of trying to take even the little out of the "nothing-ness" of the average Nigerian.
Let me just stop here for now.


In conclusion, its high time the govt and the private sector redefine the recruitment process in Nigeria so as to make it more professional, easy and standard on their part, and also stress-free, risk-free and lesser cost on the part of Nigerian graduate so that the best mind will make it through the process.

I do hope that this letter gets to the appropraite authority.
