i just finished my 100 level 1st semester. I worked so hard, i deserve a furst class also. 6 of my engineering female friends are in 4.5 above with 2 having a perfect 5.0 perfect GPA, and I'm here struggling with a 0.2gpa.

Pls help me on how to cope with this, i feel inferior to them always

Now listen, your motive for schooling is faulty. There is no guarantee of work after schooling so hoping to make good grades just to get good job is skewed. Please study to acquire knowledge and not to get job.

The truth is that when you graduate from school you might never use all those things that were taught in school to survive in real life. When I was in school my friends and I studied and did everything possible just to obtain good grades but when we graduated I found out that there is life after school, there is life after getting good results. We graduated but found ourselves in different phases of life and some of those that made good results ended up getting jobs that were not that great, while some of those seemingly unserious ones who normally skip classes have already established one business or the other before we graduated and were better off immediately after school. I found out I've never used Pythagoras theorem, I found out I've never used Newton's Law of Motion to make a living. There is life after school and that should be your main purpose. You need to see beyond the school curriculum and activities, plan and ready yourself for tomorrow while you study.

So don't bother much about what you can't change, work hard to make better results after all the measure of success is not what you graduated with but how well you fared after school.

Graduating with a first Class with such opening gpa is definitely a negative.
If You know how it is with 10-8-8 in futminna then am sure you know you are already affected.

My advice, Even though the semester is short, Try hard to make a good gpa so your cgpa will at least be above 2 point.
Believe me it will be harder for any other department to take you in with a low cgpa after the whole 10-8-8 stuff.
I know alot of persons who had such issues during their 100l days too, now they are wel settled in other depa

Most first class grads have track record from secondary school. 204/400 in UME is not a first class material's score. Even worse, first class grads don't have "F parallel".

A more realistic graduation target for you is 2.1 (i.e CGPA of above 3.5/5.0) which is still good enough for the labour market, but the immediate concern should be how to avoid being rusticated. Put out the fire first.

Try and target B minimum in all your courses in the next semester. Read. Read. Read. Get academic high flyer mentors. Meet your seniors that did the courses in the previous year, ask for tricks for passing each of the courses.

When you put out the fire (i.e stabilize), then you can continue your long term target of graduating with a good grade.

Same way a 1.0 from 100L grads with 2.1/2.2 or worse .....you can scale up. As a babe in Mech, having constantly, above 4.7, your lecturers may develop soft spot for you. Nothing is impossible.

Also confirm the grading system of your faculty. In my days, 100L was only 5 or 10% of CGPA or so, while final result weighed 50%. Grading is the most important thing now ma'am.

Can you deactivate your facebook.... Instagram.... And other social media account while concentrating on your studies for the next 4.5 years?

Can you be consistent and diligent in attending classes, doing all assignments, termpapers and tests for the next 4.5 years?

If you can.... Then you can come out with a good grade!
I don't guarantee First Class sha... But it isn't impossible as other factors are involved.eg..tsunami results, bad-bellerism of lecturers etc..

But if you continue to slay with sweetness as per your dp.... You may be expelled due to poor result sef!

Be wise and stop slaying lest you be slayed!

Amakababe, this one get as it be. For you to get that GP means any of the following:
1) Laziness or unseriousness.
2) personal problems eg. Brain being affected(smoking weed, doing hard drugs, drinking alcohol, online pornography and masturbation, abusing painkillers etc.), side hustle due financial hardness which may affect your schedule and give you little time for rest etc.

NB: Scoring 204 in jamb doesn't prove anything. It's not a great score for someone who wants to score first class in engineering and graduating with a first class doesn't mean that you will get a job. This is Nigeria.

If your problem is (1), you have to spend more time on your studies, work smart and spend all your energy and time on your studies. Don't set your mind on first class rather look to giving your best at any up coming test or exam.

If your problem is (2), you need to first settle those personal problems first as any problem that can heavily affect your school work deserve to be attended first. Feel free to pm me.

the results are not 'good' in general. I had a better GPA than many students in SAAT, water and aquaculture dept and fisheries dept to be precise.

Before you accuse me of being dull, I had a 204 in JAMB.
I always wanted a first class, but
I decided to check my result yesterday only to see F parallel and some good grades out of 10 courses.
Pls am 22 and I need to pass so I can get a good job after graduation.
I know I didn't give my books much attention this semester.

I am confused because I will be asked to withdraw if I get a cgpa less than 2.0 on a scale of 5 after second semester and don't meet the 10-8-8 requirement which I am very far from.


CAN I GRADUATE WITH A FIRST CLASS STILL?
Tell me the honest truth, I can handle it.
