Celebrities / Be My Running Mate, Kanye West Asks Trump Ahead Of 2024 Election by Amara661(f): 11:23am On Nov 24, 2022
Barely forty-eight hours after he declared his interest to run for the president of the United States in 2024, American rapper, Kanye West asked Donald Trump, the former president of the United States to be his running mate in the 2024 election.

The music icon made this known on his Twitter page on Wednesday saying he paid a visit to the ex-President at his resort residence in Florida, Mar-a-Lago.

West said he kept Trump waiting, but he disclosed the clue of the topic of their conversation.

The 45-year-old artiste went further to ask his fans to guess how the former American leader would respond to the question.

Health / Germany Moves To Legalise Cannabis by Amara661(f): 1:10pm On Oct 26, 2022
The German government paved the way for the legalisation of cannabis on Wednesday, though it remains unclear whether the plan will pass muster at the European level.

According to the plan approved by Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Cabinet, cannabis and the active substance tetrahydrocannabinol would no longer to be legally classified as narcotics.

“The purchase and possession of up to 30 grams of cannabis would be exempt from punishment.

“Private cultivation would be permitted to a limited extent and sale to adults in ‘licensed specialist shops’ and possibly also pharmacies would be possible,” the plan stated.

However, European rules on the handling of cannabis could stand in the way of legalisation in Germany.

The international legal framework offers “limited options for implementing the coalition’s project,” according to the plan approved by the cabinet.

In their coalition agreement, Scholz’s centre-left SPD, the Greens and the pro-business FDP had agreed to introduce “the controlled distribution of cannabis to adults for consumption purposes in licensed shops.”

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has promised Nigerian youths that his government would be made of youths who must have distinguished themselves in their various fields of endeavour.

He also promised to merge wisdom and youth excellence to bring tangible solutions and protection to Nigeria.

Atiku made these remarks while meeting with Henrich Akomolafe, the PDP House of Representatives candidate for Ekiti South federal constituency 1, and other successful content creators, entrepreneurs, and social media stars from the YouthsInPoliticsNg coalition.

He said, “As a man who came from nothing and persevered in learning and achieving against all odds, these young powerhouses remind me of myself and our nation’s exceptional resilience to succeed.

“We are now at a time where ideation, innovation, creativity, and technology continue to offer a world of opportunities for the younger generation of Nigerians. Many of them have used these platforms to export some of the country’s greatest success stories and reposition the country’s image globally through the arts, culture, and brilliant entertainment.

“Now, imagine if we, as one Nigeria, worked to provide the enabling environment to catapult our younger generations’ talents further. How much further would we fly? I will make it my absolute priority to continue listening, engaging, and working with more of Nigeria’s superpower, our youth, to witness their optimum potential.

“You are the pride of our future, and as the father of our nation, I am committed to your success. I look forward to merging wisdom and youth excellence to bring tangible solutions and protection to us all. As one, we will get it done.”

Health / Evacuate Decaying Headless Bodies From Our Community, Anambra Residents Tell Gov by Amara661(f): 4:00pm On Aug 28, 2022
Residents of the Ulasi-Okija area of Anambra State have lamented the presence of two decomposing headless bodies in their community.

The residents said they had woken up sometime in June to find the unidentified corpses in their community.

They lamented that almost one month after the corpses were dumped by unknown persons at the Ulasi-Okija bridge, close to an area called the post, they are yet to be removed by the government.

Speaking with our correspondent, the residents stated that the two decomposing bodies are becoming a public health hazard to people in the community.

They also noted that since the bodies were dumped in June, many people in the community no longer ply the popular route to avoid the stinking headless bodies.

Our correspondent also found out that even public transport companies avoid plying the otherwise shorter route. Their drivers now prefer to take the longer alternative route to avoid the sight and stench of the now decomposing bodies.

One of the residents in the affected community, who identified himself simply as Chinonso, said he was shocked to see the bodies on the first day, adding that after hearing that their heads had been cut off, he no longer plies that route.

He begged the government to come to their rescue, adding that the people in the community are worried the bodies might be those of victims of money rituals.

Chinonsoe also lamented that the stench of the decomposing bodies has become a source of concern to residents, noting that many people in the community see them as a potential threat to public health.

Chinonso, a mechanic speaking further with PUNCH HealthWise, said, “The smell oozing from the dead bodies doesn’t make me happy. I don’t like it.

“The first day I saw it I was very shocked and since then I don’t go through that road because it is a human being like me.

“Even if I want to buy fuel, going through there would have been the closest route but I don’t go through there anymore.

“The government needs to come and remove these corpses. Since I heard they cut off their heads, I don’t want to use my eyes to see it.”

He added that on the first day the corpses were mysteriously deposited on the busy road, “they were clothed and their heads were intact then I started hearing that they cut off their heads and joysticks. Since then, I have never gone through that road.”

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told our correspondent that the presence of the bodies was a problem in the community due to the odour oozing out from them.

He added that as their heads have been cut off, it has become impossible to identify who the victims are.

Also speaking with our correspondent, Fr. Cyril Nwofor, the parish priest of St Jude’s Catholic Church Ubahu, Okija, expressed sadness over the continued presence of the bodies in the community, noting that they can constitute a health hazard to the residents in the area.

He urged relevant authorities to “make a move” and ensure that the bodies are disposed of as soon as possible.

Fr. Nwofor said, “The leaders of this land and the cabinet should make a move. The people around there should not die because of the decomposing bodies of people dumped there.

“I don’t know how people living around there would be feeling since that thing happened. The leaders of this land should do something. They should not just allow this kind of thing to happen.

“My concern is that those corpses should not be there.”

However, when our correspondent contacted the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, he explained that he was yet to be made aware of the presence of the bodies.

He, however, asked our correspondent to share the location of the bodies, noting that a relevant agency could be mobilised to remove them.

Our correspondent also reached out to the Anambra State Police Force to know what the police were doing to identify the headless bodies.

The Anambra State PPRO, DSP. Ikenganyia Tochukwu in a text message response to our correspondent said, “There is no such information about headless corpses.”

Romance / Determine The Sex Of Your Baby Right On Your Bed! by Amara661(f): 12:05am On Aug 27, 2022
Many people desire either a male or a female child, for one reason or the other. They are ready to spend fortunes to achieve their heart desires by seeking for assistance from specialists to make their dreams come true. But there is a method of determining the sex of our babies that is based on some understandings of our body that have some degrees of accuracies. And this method has around for quite some time now.

To start with, human cells most often contain 23 pairs of chromosomes with a set of 23 pairs from the father and the other from the mother. Twenty-two out of the twenty-three pairs are called autosomes while the twenty-third pair is the sex chromosomes. The sex chromosomes determine the sex of the baby, so, understanding their behaviours and understanding ovulation can help couples to determine the sex of their babies.

The sex chromosome consists of the X and Y chromosomes. In most instances, a male individual biologically has one X and one Y chromosome (XY) while a female individual has two X chromosomes (XX). Thus, it is the presence or absence of Y chromosomes that determine the sex of the baby. So, during fertilization, a male child will result if the father contributes the Y-chromosome, since the mother, whichever way, has only X chromosomes to contribute.

The Y chromosome has a ‘male-determining gene,’ called the SRY gene that facilitates the formation of testes in the embryo and results in the development of all-male sex organs. So, when the SRY gene is absent or mutated, only female babies can be formed. The Y chromosome, of all the men alive today, is traceable to a hypothetical single male ancestor who likely lived around 300,000 years ago.

It is expedient now, to state that this method, being discussed, was developed by Landrum B Shettles. However, recent researches have negated many of his claims but many people still have successes using it. His assumptions are that the sperm carrying Y chromosomes are shorter-living, smaller and faster-swimming than those carrying the X chromosomes.

But, before going further, we need to understand the term ‘ovulation.’ It is part of the menstrual cycle of a woman.

It occurs when an egg is released from the ovary. In all women, it occurs four days before or four days after the midpoint of the menstrual cycle. Ovulation is usually heralded, in some women, by a small increase in vaginal discharge which often becomes clearer and more elastic and with a raw egg white-like appearance. Some of the signs of ovulation include tender breasts, increased sexual drive, light vaginal bleeding or spotting and one-sided abdominal discomfort or pain.

There are ways women can fairly determine their ‘fertile period,’ which is roughly about a week in a month. Also, after release, an egg is capable of surviving for 12 to 48 hours before it disintegrates.

Also, in most instances, the sperms can survive for between three and five days before it dies. So, the question now is, how can we use all these information to determine the sex of the baby?

Since the sperm bearing Y-chromosomes die faster than the X-chromosomes, it means, if a baby boy is desired, intercourse should be confined strictly to around the immediate days after ovulation, But, if it is a baby girl, then the further away from the day of ovulation the greater the chances of the child being a female, in so far, intercourse occurs within the window that the egg and sperms are still viable for fertilisation.

Politics / Politics Won’t Change Nigeria’s Situation, Says Kukah by Amara661(f): 1:32pm On Aug 17, 2022
The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah, has attributed the current lack of good governance in Nigeria to a lack of knowledge among those holding the mantle of power in the country and not politics.

Kukah made the remarks when he paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), Katsina State on Tuesday.

He lamented the unfortunate trend of tribal and religious discrimination in the academic circle and called for understanding among the academics.

“I want to end by making a point. If the Universities do not sit up and the respect and respectability do not come back to the universities, which are the highest level of education and knowledge, nothing will happen in Nigeria.

“I don’t mean disrespect, but we know that only with the late Yar’adua may his soul rest in peace, was the first Nigerian President with a university certificate, to tell you how serious our situation is.

“So whenever I have the opportunity, I like to encourage members of the university community because they are engaged in a long-suffering job that the country itself does not recognise and appreciate.

“We will continue to hope and pray that sooner than later, the whole problem about the relationship between federal and state government and the university community will be a thing of the past. Because frankly if this does not happen, politics will not change our country, it is only knowledge that can change our society” he stated.

Kukah also said that academia has a major role to play in the development of the country, adding that Nigerians living abroad are being appreciated for their good jobs in universities that have made names on the global level.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor explained that there are no incidences of discrimination in the university as everyone is treated equally irrespective of his tribe or religion.

“In FUDMA we give equal opportunity to all irrespective of their inclinations so that one can be useful to himself and his community.

“By doing this we have found students that are highly responsible and disciplined,” he said.

Career / Adeleke’s Victory, A Turning Point For PDP – Chieftain by Amara661(f): 4:57pm On Jul 18, 2022
The Board of Trustees Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Walid Jibrin, said the victory of Senator Ademola Adeleke at the just concluded Osun governorship election was a turning point for the party’s success in 2023 polls.

While congratulating the governor-elect, the PDP chieftain noted that, with the victory, Osun people had sent a clear message of the party’s (PDP) stand in the whole country, come 2023.

According to him, Adeleke’s victory at the poll did not come to him as a surprise, adding that he was optimistic of the PDP victory.

Walid, a Second Republic Senator, said, “I was there at Osun during the last campaign and the number of people that turned out for the rally was unbelievable and I was so sure that the PDP will win Osun state.

“And this is just the beginning of victory. What has happened in Osun State now is an indication of the PDP’s stand in the whole country. We as a party have learned our lessons and the Yorubas are beginning to learn their lessons too, by coming out to elect Chief Adeleke. We are rest assured that other states in western Nigeria will be won by the PDP come 2023.

“By the grace of God, all other states in the country will vote for us. So the issue of the APC campaign for a Muslim-Muslim presidency will not work. You can bear me witness that it didn’t work in Osun Sate, so we should not support this kind of politics.

“Our concern should be based on who is the best candidate for us that can be in charge of the country.”

He also decried what he described as “politics of religion” being introduced by other parties ahead of the forthcoming polls, saying that such idea was capable of breeding confusion and war on a people that have been existing peacefully.

The PDP chieftain added, “When you look at the life of our prophet Muhammad, when they were killing Muslim in Mecca, he (Prophet Muhammad) asked them to come and he gave them a letter to give to one Christian king, and the Muslim who were being killed in Mecca went to that Christian king, the king received them, gave them land, he gave them everything, he lived with them. Is there any division there?

“And when Muhammad again was suffering attacks with his people in Mecca, he left for Medina, upon reaching there, he called all the Christians, the Jews and all other religions and they formed a government of unity and we have been following him. So, why are we coming out to say it must be Muslim-Muslim leadership in Nigeria.”

Politics / Available Information Favours PDP, Davido Alerts Supporters by Amara661(f): 5:04pm On Jul 16, 2022
Award-winning Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has asked voters to protect their votes as counting commences in the ongoing Osun State Governorship election.

In a post on Twitter, the singer claimed that information coming in across Osun State showed that PDP was being favoured.

He called on voters in the state to be vigilant, warning that what happened four years ago should not repeat itself.

Davido wrote, “Remember this is the critical period!! It was this time 4 years ago. Around 1 pm that they started their mischief.

“Everyone be vigilant. Come out and vote and defend your votes until the end! Be alert! We have waited 4 years for this moment!

“All the info coming in is looking very good for PDP and it is making APC jittery and desperate. Please tell our people that are yet to vote that every vote is needed. Everyone needs to go out to vote now.”
Education / Playing Games With ASUU Strike by Amara661(f): 9:48am On Jul 14, 2022
THE Muhammadu Buhari government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, have turned the five-month stay at home by our public university students to a game of hide and seek. Hope has further dimmed on the possibility of the reopening of our universities for academic activities.

After prolonged verbal warnings, ASUU finally embarked on a one-month warning strike on February 16, 2022. When the Federal Government failed to respond, the Union extended its warning strike for two months before declaring the current indefinite strike.

Rather than a meaningful engagement with the Union to resolve the impasse, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, and his counterpart, now former Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, come up with N100 million each to buy the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential nomination forms.

These were ministers who should have resigned or been fired long ago for their failures to find solutions to the ASUU strike under their watches. They added salt to the injury of the masses by deigning to engage in runs for their party’s presidential ticket.

Buhari had, in his “enough is enough” call on ASUU to go back to work in Daura during the recent Sallah holidays, told the Union that its strike would have “generational consequences” on families, the educational system and the future development of the country.

This statement was obviously meant to shift the moral burden of the ASUU strike to the university lecturers. Last time we checked, it was President Buhari and his All Progressives Congress, APC, that were given the mandate to solve this problem, among others.

Romance / How Important Is Sex In A Relationship, Really? by Amara661(f): 4:36pm On Jun 21, 2022
Ask 10 couples how important sex is in a relationship and you’ll get 10 different answers. Of course, there’s quantity and there’s quality. Mismatched desires, lack of orgasm, and other factors can all make your sex life seem eh — and can affect other aspects of your relationship dynamics, says Madeline Lucas, LCSW, therapist and clinical content manager at Real, a mental health care company. And these differences in libido can become even more pronounced if you and your partner don’t talk through them.

“It’s all about communication and compromise when it comes to different libidos and sex drives in a relationship,” Lucas says. And if sex is important to you and your partner, then it’s important in the relationship. And research underscores how sex can enhance intimacy and connection: According to a 2018 study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, the more sex you have, the more likely you are to feel intimacy toward your partner. But being satisfied with sex in your relationship starts with getting honest with both yourself and your partner about what you like and what you want.

Prostitution in Nigeria is illegal in all Northern States that practice Islamic penal code. In Southern Nigeria, the activities of pimps or madams, underage prostitution and the operation or ownership of brothels are penalized under sections 223, 224, and 225 of the Nigerian Criminal Code.[1] Even though Nigerian law does not legalize commercial sex work, it is vague if such work is performed by an independent individual who operates on his or her own accord without the use of pimps or a brothel.[2]
