Business / What You Need To Know Before You Start Selling Online by AmazingNeoTech(m): 12:35pm On Jun 08, 2020
Granted, the method of selling online is relatively new in the history of commerce, and there are certain unique strengths and weaknesses related to online commerce that did not come into play just a few years ago.

Selling online is still selling, and the principles have remained unchanged down through centuries of business transactions.
One of the biggest complaints about online sellers is that the vast majority of them seem to think only about closing the sale.
Because of the universal reach of the Internet, it's easy for some online sellers to feel they can hide because they're not looking the buyer eye-to-eye over a counter in a retail shop.

Buyers likewise also feel less secure because they can't see the seller face-to-face, and they usually cannot visit the store in person and reassure themselves of the legitimacy of the business.

These unscrupulous online sellers really have no regard for the customer; they value only what the customer can do for them, which is adding Naira to their bank account.

It is quite possible for an online seller to build an entire business model on one-time sales rather than building a list of satisfied clientele who come back for repeated purchases. That’s the danger awaiting online sellers – the bad reputation of a few.

Other online sellers – the kind you want to be – couldn’t be more different. They really do want to do the right thing, and they're aware of the need to provide honest value to their customers.

Their desire is to provide significant value to the buyer at a fair price, but they sometimes struggle to communicate that value. Their heart is in the right place, but they have difficulty reaching out and convincing the buyer that they're different than the other group.

No business can succeed without a seller convincing a buyer to pay. Even if your heart is in the right place, you’ll have to develop the art of convincing people that you have what they need if you want to succeed in your online business.

People browsing the Internet today have the attention span of the Lagos customers walking down a street, scarcely glancing at the vendors who shout for their attention.

Online sellers must hold the attention of potential buyers and convince them that the products they are selling really can help them solve their problems and can do it better and cheaper than anyone else’s product can.

What you are selling simply must be better, and you must also believe that it is better and be able to communicate that.

Family / How Swift Recharge Is Making Bills Payments Faster And Easier Amidst Covid-19 by AmazingNeoTech(m): 6:40pm On Apr 18, 2020
Traditionally the process of paying bills in Nigeria is very cumbersome, boring and filled with numerous challenges. If you are paying for power (electricity) for example, you have to go to a physical payment centre and have to endure the long queue after which you are told that there is no network. In frustration, you download a payment app, insert your card details and you’re debited but 24 hours later you’re still waiting for your pre-paid meter token. Most of the services are also not available at night and during weekends, you have to wait until the next business day. This is just to paint a picture of the everyday struggles Nigerians go through to pay bills while having to deal with other important issues in their life.

We have had countless disappointing experiences paying for bills, so we decided to tackle these problems head-on. We combined both our knowledge and experience in building solutions that leverage technology to create a platform that solves these challenges once and for all. We launched swiftrecharge.ng, an online utility bills payment platform amidst COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic is forcing people to stay at home in a bid to adhere to the social distancing campaign. Swift Recharge aims to make bills payment during this trying times a seamless and stress-free process. Our goal is to make all online utility bills payments faster and easier. Using Swift Recharge is simply the safest and easiest way to pay for electricity and other utilities in Nigeria. It is faster than any other payment platform. You can also use USSD to recharge, it's that easy. Swift Recharge strives to give you access to a constant power supply and also keep your data safe and secure.

We rolled out the platform late March 2020 to support electricity bills payment. We have ten out of eleven DISCOs available on Swift Recharge. Topping your meter is as simple as visiting www.swiftrecharge.ng and after inserting your card details you receive your meter token instantly. The platform supports both pre-paid and post-paid customers. We’re also rolling out our USSD service to cater to the unbanked and under-banked customers. While a lot of solutions providers focus on solving the needs of the banked, most of the unbanked and under-banked are left to cater for their needs themselves. The idea behind the USSD service is to allow anybody especially the unbanked to pay electricity bills without the need for internet or high-end devices like smartphones and computers.

We have partnered with Fintech companies, telcos, commercial banks and third-party providers to bring this service to customers. Our ultimate vision is to create a platform for Nigerians that is both reliable and accessible no matter what. Nigeria has the highest number of internet users in Africa with about 126,000,000 users as of December 2019. If the issues relating to bills payment aren't tackled, this could negatively affect the economy, we can’t let that happen. Darth Technologies, the parent company of Swift Recharge is very keen on solving local challenges through innovation. We see Swift Recharge as a step in the right direction in this regard and we’re very prepared to deal with the many other bottlenecks that may affect our mission.

Music/Radio / Hausa Hip-hop; Evolution Of Music In The North by AmazingNeoTech(m): 6:10pm On Oct 08, 2016
I remember while I was growing up, I used to like Zakky Azzay. The most fascinating thing about this guy is not only his music, but his costume. You hardly see him without torchlight. I still recall some northern pioneers in music who do what we know as hip-hop. Although most of them have a somewhat different approach and style, we stilled loved their creativity. The likes of Funkiest Mallam, Billy O and even Eadriz Abdulkareem were in the fore front representing the north in the music industry. Simultaneously, while these people were running the stage another breed of northern musicians were been incubated and recently hatched.

Hausa hip-hop. The latest genre of hip-hop in Africa. It is basically a blend of what we know as hip-hop with Hausa dialect. This trend is moving so fast that the entertainment industry will soon be overwhelmed by it. The Hausa hip-hop is not a thing of today, as I mentioned earlier it has been in existence for quiet sometime. Many talented artists have adopted it as a means of expressing their artistry. Amazingly, the sound is also good. Some will make you want to tear your clothes apart. Others will make your body hair stand like rice farm. The quality of the music is simply awesome.

Recently, a number of multi-talented artists like ClassiQ, BOC Madaki, Dj AB, Kheengz and Morell have evolved. These guys and their record label are doing tremendous job and their passion has made significant contribution to the development of Hausa hip-hop. Fans are also showing their appreciation for the movement. Many have gone as far as attending events and shows in other states. The Northern blog had some interview session with some of these stars. Let’s brace ourselves, a huge wave is coming. The next Grammy Award winner may just be your neighbor. It’s time the North vomit all its talents.

Business / Startups: Kano State Government Now Accepting Proposals by AmazingNeoTech(m): 10:22pm On Oct 05, 2016
I have long been an advocate for startups and their participation in the North and the Nation at large. Having dwelled so much on this topic and also traveled to places this movement is being embraced. I was glad to be informed by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on ICT II to the Governor of Kano State that his office is creating an opportunity for ICT innovators in the state. He said soon his office will commence registration of ICT innovative and problem solving business ideas from aspiring and seasoned techprenuers in both soft and hard copies. You can imagine the joy I felt when I heard of this door that is now about to be opened for everybody in the tech ecosystem.

The State Government in partnership with Startup Kano, the Office for ICT Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OIIE) will promote young ICT innovation startups and ICT solutions in areas of agriculture, education, health, transportation, commerce, tourism etc.

This strategic alliance will address the challenges that are inhibiting the growth of entrepreneurs, as well as create enabling environment to foster ICT innovation and entrepreneurship in the state. It is a perfect medium to present your ideas and working prototype so as to attract investors, partners and mentors.

For those who are yet to build an idea or don’t have any idea to work on. You may check my post on 100 startup ideas applicable in Nigeria. Drafting a business plan or model shouldn’t be a problem and if you’re stuck on how to get one done, you may inbox me.

However, you must note that there are guidelines for submitting proposals and also some criteria that should be met by your ideas or business solution. Afterwards, you should take time to develop a concrete proposal which should be submitted to the Office of the SSA on ICT II at the Kano State Government House and via e-mail: ssaict2governorkano@gmail.com

Webmasters / 100 Startup Ideas Applicable In Nigeria (part One) by AmazingNeoTech(m): 7:56pm On Sep 19, 2016
For most people the idea for a startup venture is never the problem rather implementation is. A lot of aspiring entrepreneurs find it difficult to hit on the right business idea even after tirelessly brainstorming. The thing is, there is no general formula for a startup idea. Many who thought they had the right idea often realized that later on after having failed in making it a successful venture. Let me also clear the perception that using other people’s idea doesn’t guarantee success and doesn’t connote originality or creativity. Frankly, most of the most successful startups have in one way or the other built on somebody’s idea. What matters is your ability to expand and recreate beyond what you already know. I compiled this lists of 100 startups which I gathered from different sources around the world. Most of these ideas have already been implemented and seems to have good prospects. Your ability to relate to an idea greatly depends on your interests and past experience. Perhaps, you may delve into a totally new area and succeed, the best way to choose a path is to trust and follow your instincts.

1- Online fashion retailer: - If you’re a tailor or fashion designer, this will suit you well.
2- Online cab (taxi) aggregator: - For those who want to delve into the transport industry.

8- Online Furniture, Home and Living products.
9- Cars: - Upcoming Cars & Prices, Used Cars, Reviews & News - Auto Portal.
10- Simplify the Way We Discover & Share Events: - You can do a lot with this idea, such as finding a way to make people discover events in a city. You can make it an event listing, promotion and ticketing platform.
11- Health: - Find a way to help patients find the best doctors for their problems, and help doctors manage their practice.
12- Create a platform to discover programmers.
13- Stylist: - Tired of looking for a stylist, why don’t you create an avenue for people to handpick stylists.

17- Develop an online micro lending and fundraising platform that works with various grass-roots organizations. If you see what I see, you will start immediately.
18- . Build a website to help customers find an appropriate gift for occasions and recipient and one which suits their budget. Also try to deliver it to their doorstep.
19- There are not many trading research startup that talks about Intelligent Trading analysis, Trading strategies, Money Management, Exchange, and Banking regulations. I see a goldmine here.
20- Where are the women in the house? What do you think about a leading Women's Blog on latest fashion trends, beauty and health tips. Initiated for the sole purpose of educating women on what’s happening and trending in terms of fashion and Beauty around the World.
21- Have you heard of Exotel, a cloud telephony platform for modern Indian businesses which provides one phone number for businesses and can simultaneously receive and make hundreds of calls and SMS, at the same time? Where are our Nigerian developers?
22- Build lead generating software that helps businesses generate, track, nurture and manage their Leads. Whether B2B or B2C. The target is to build a product businesses rely on.
23- There should be a communication platform to bridge the gap between people seeking legal representation and advocates in this country. Please inbox me when you’ve done something about this, because my startup needs a very good lawyer.
24- It will be nice to see a startup that's committed to making early child development fun and engaging through its creative products: both physical and digital.
25- Engineering: - There should be a popular website among engineers. Like a network of engineers which help fresher to get jog in the reality of engineering and other benefits of the profession.

Literature / God Will Provide: A Two Sided Story by AmazingNeoTech(m): 4:22pm On Sep 18, 2016
SIDE ONE
I inserted my hand into my pocket and brought out a ₦500 note. It was the last and only money with me. I woke up this morning to a message on my phone from the bank. It says “Your account balance for the month is ₦15.10k”. The economy has been frowning lately. While some people were wailing and blaming the government. All I could think of is how to get more funds. A friend of mine had previously called to inform me about a laptop he wants to sell. My plan was to go over to his place, collect the laptop and make profits from the sales. Unfortunately, I needed to get some food in my stomach, and transport to and fro my friends place costs ₦500. I was in dilemma on what to put on my scale of preference. Food now or food later? After long deliberation I resolved to go on with my task, “food can come later”, I thought.

I jumped into the street and started towards my destination. I was distracted by the sight of a woman, roughly 40years who looks older than her age. She was coming towards my direction and had her eyes set on me. I didn’t know to expect from her and with the current security situation in the country my heart started racing. She stopped me with a greeting. “Good morning my son”, she said. “Good morning madam”, I replied anxiously waiting for her next words. At first she paused, as if deciding to end our meeting. But then she continued narrating her story. “I am married with kids, my husband abandoned us. He said he couldn’t feed himself lest he feed me and the children. He had lost his job and when he couldn’t find another, one morning we woke up and he was gone. I am only a housewife; I’ve been surviving by doing petty business in my neighborhood. The little capital I have has finished trying to feed myself and the kids. Please if you have anything to help me buy breakfast no matter how much, I will forever be grateful”. By the time she finished, my eyes were swollen. This is something my conscience will never let me go unchecked. I wanted to calm her but I only managed to mutter some words. I still didn’t know what I said. I put my hands into my pocket and removed the ₦500 I had and gave it to her. She thanked and prayed for me. I told her not to border, that she should hurry home and get the kids something to eat. She turned around and left.

I stood there for some minutes thinking of the next line of action. I couldn’t come up with any idea. I whispered to myself and said “God will provide”. I went home and took to my bed. Sleep was nowhere to be found as my stomach kept thundering. After some struggles with my reality, I began to doze off. Just then, as if in my dreams, I heard the message beep from my phone. I opened my eyes to read the SMS and to my amazement, one of my clients has a job for me. He needs a website developed for a company ASAP (as soon as possible). He has already sent the advance money for the work. I haven’t finished reading when I received another text message, it reads “Credit Alert: Your account has been credited with ₦80,000.00, your total account balance is ₦80,015.10”. It was an ecstatic moment as I hurriedly prepared myself for the task of the day.

SIDE TWO
I didn’t know what to do. I am jobless and penniless. I have three children and none of them is going to school. It’s not a priority, what they need now is food. A hungry child will not learn, what is the use is if they go to school. Even if they did go, how will I pay the school fees when the person whose responsibility it is has abandoned us? My husband, once a charming and brilliant young man, after working for twelve years for a national bank was retrenched without benefits. He lost most of his sanity afterwards. After going out every day in search for job which was never available. He packed his luggage one day and left. Now I am saddled with the task of being the bread winner. Sympathizers gave me some money which I used to start a petty business. I was selling detergents, soaps and domestic goods. After a while I lost everything as the responsibilities keeps getting bigger. I look old and pale, one will say I am a grandmother. I am yet to reach 40years but life has taking toll on me already.

I resolved to go into the street and find work to do. Anything that will bring honest income to feed my children, I will do it. After a long search I wasn’t able to get any work. I was very hungry and exhausted. But it’s the kid who I fear the most for. “Should I beg?” I asked myself. It seems I have no option left. Just then, I saw a young boy in his early twenties coming my way. If I was going to do this, then I should start with him. I stopped him with a greeting and he responded. He looked anxious, somehow afraid. I paused; I have never done this before. I thought of letting the gentleman go. Nevertheless, I continued to narrate my predicament to him. He was touched; I could see it in his eyes. He wanted to say something; he said something which I couldn’t understand because I didn’t hear. He gave me ₦500 and I thanked him, but he asked me not to bother and emphasize that I hurry home to my children. I went back home, stopping at the pharmacy to buy some pain killers. I also bought bean cakes and bread on my way. It has been a rough morning. I arrived home to the most pleasant scene ever. My husband has returned. He had brought food stuffs and prepared a nice breakfast for the kids. He rushed to me and hugged me as soon as he saw me. With tears in his eyes, he begged for my forgiveness and promised never to desert us again. I pardoned him. He had gotten another job with an insurance company. I looked at him and held his hands, reminding him of what I told him the night before he left us. “Oh darling, I have always told you that God will provide”.

Webmasters / The Best Way To Start A Startup In Nigeria by AmazingNeoTech(m): 12:01pm On Sep 14, 2016
Being the most populous black Nation in the world has put us in an advantaged position. With our human capital, the possibilities for us are endless. Technology has made life very easy but it has also made it challenging in the sense that businesses now have a level playing ground for success. Startups however, have made it more interesting, everyday people innovate new ways of solving problems and create new technologies. We as a nation need to be part of this global revolution; we need as many entrepreneurs out there providing turnkey solutions to the benefit of humanity and the environment. I have compiled some of the best ways all aspiring entrepreneurs can use as a guide in starting a startup in this country.

Choose an Idea that is important
The best startup ideas are those that solve problems. Ask yourself what is missing in your environment, your community or state. After you've brainstorm and come up with the perfect idea, build it. The feeling of doing something important will drive you to incredible heights in realizing your idea. When you have something you can spend a decade or a lifetime doing, you know you're on the right track. There is no better form of motivation than having a sense that you are investing your blood, sweat, and toil into something important, and that even if you fail at least you failed doing something that was important.

Choose the right people
Many companies fail because the founders are not careful and selective in choosing the people they associate or partner with. In building a successful and reputable company you need people but not everybody. From your co-founder to your investors, you must work with those who understand and believe in the same things you do. Having the right people surround you will ultimately translate into building a successful business. On the contrary, people who don't share the same values with you and don’t understand vision of your venture will end up sabotaging your efforts. You must choose wisely in order to avoid unnecessary setbacks and conflicts.

What customers want
In nearly most failed startups, the actual problem was that customers didn’t like the product. While many failed startups listed running out of funds as a major cause. It is in fact only the immediate cause. Why couldn't they get more funding? Probably because they had a bad product, or the idea never really seemed likely to be successful, or both. It is imperative that your product is useful and meaningful to the end user. That way, you make him keep coming back to you. The only way businesses survive is through patronage, make it a target to increase your patronage. You can only do that by giving out a very good product or service.

Raising the capital

Unlike other businesses, startups have a very different method of financing. Although most startups begin with the owners investment. A lot of others look to investors to accelerate their growth. Startup investment comes in different stages. First is the seed capital mostly used for development and research. Second is Angel investment which usually acquired from wealthy people who could be family or friends. Then there is the venture capital financing which is a series or rounds of funding that a new venture gets in order to assist the overall mission and objective of the company. The best way to get funding quickly and easily is to have a written and constructed business plan, as no investor will simply take the word of mouth. If you already have a product in the market, you are more likely to get venture capitalists that are willing to negotiate with you over the ownership or return on investments in exchange for their money.

Webmasters / Startups And The North, A Wake Up Call by AmazingNeoTech(m): 5:02am On Sep 08, 2016
When the founders of Jumia started out more than four years ago. They could only imagine how the future looked like. Although they’ve sold the company but the idea they brought into life is now a living proof that startups can do very well. While a lot of people are familiar with the word startup, most are still unsure about what it really means. According the Wikipedia, a startup is an entrepreneurial venture which is typically a newly emerged fast growing business that aims to meet a marketplace by developing or offering an innovative product, process or service. Although the growth of a startup depends on the founders and their model. Many Nigerian ventures have made giant and commendable strides.

As startups continue to be associated with the Tech Space (which is more often), this may be true considering that these businesses are designed to grow quickly by capturing a very large market. Several people have misconceptions about new businesses being a form of startup, while this belief remains a fallacy, because small businesses are always built on existing business models and are meant to target fairly fixed markets. Thus they cannot be called as such. An overwhelming number of startups have emerged over the years most of which are concentrated in the south (west) region. The north in its entity has little to flaunt in this respect.

When Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook was in the country, his first choice of visit was Lagos (southwest) which is renown not only in Nigeria to host some of the brains in IT. Shouldn’t the North be bothered? Why has it always been ignored from the highlights of the Tech industry? I believe the reason can be traced to the low level of participation by the northerners. Every day I get carried away and enchanted by one startup or the other from the south. I have seen startups like Kangpe, ArtNigeria and Shuttlers represent Nigeria at the international level. Others like Andela, Jangilova, CashEnvoy, Showroom.ng and Hotels.ng are also doing well. I’ve seen several events and hubs that have immensely developed the startup mentality of many youths. These are the types of development I want. This is what all region and political zones should be doing as part of our contribution to increase the National GDP. As is it clear the former way (Oil) is no longer feasible.

As the entrepreneur and author of zero to one, Peter Thiel said “technology is miraculous, because it allows you to do more with less” My advice to the Northern brethren is to look beyond the misfortunes and lack of opportunities. You must build your dream from scratch and sacrifice for it, because you have the most important ingredient, technology. You may have the idea, but one man cannot build a castle. It is imperative that you meet, gather together to discuss, share, connect, build, develop and grow together. You can form groups, create hubs or organize events to attract like minds and investors. This should be a movement and a struggle as it has been an effective method of making exponential breakthroughs and achievements. The startup idea is not cumbersome or lumbering. You can adapt the principles of the Lean Startup which was pioneered by the great entrepreneur Eric Ries. It is never too late to join the bandwagon of creative and innovative Nigerians.

Business / How To Survive The Present Hard-times In Nigeria by AmazingNeoTech(m): 9:40am On Sep 06, 2016
We live in a time where the purchasing power of the Naira keeps sinking. While some may argue that the policy of the Nigerian government is affecting the economy adversely or whether or not there is inflation in the country. The citizens of this Nation are taking the biggest blow. It will be wise to acknowledge that the events of the past months will continue into the future. Prices will continue to soar as exchange rates continue to fall. We are in a difficult time and here are four advice on how to survive these periods.

1- ACCEPT AND PREPARE
For you to recognize that there is inflation is a step in the right direction. Living with the hope that things will return to normal will only result to disappointments. The earlier you prepare yourself physically and mentally, the better your chances of survival. When you wake in the morning knowing that what was worth N100 yesterday is now N150. You begin the day with a better spirit and vigor than those who lack this knowledge.

2- EVOLVE AND ADAPT
During inflation, your money loses value. You become at risk of starvation, subsequently it affects your standard of living negatively. It is time for you to adapt. Anytime you want to spend, ask yourself if you really need what you are spending on. You must forego the necessary things for the important ones. For instance, buy non perishable goods, use public transport, and buy for long-term gain items like cereals, powders, packaged goods and even bread. There are a lot of things you can buy to save money. The idea is not to live cheap, but to live smartly.

3- GET RID OF CASH (INVEST)
When money keeps losing its value everyday, then why keep it? Since there is no foreseeable end to this financial crisis, the best option is to turn your money (cash) into commodity or asset. Everything will increase in price, therefore the logic behind this is that if you have a Hundred Thousand Naira. You should use it to buy assets or commodities, this will give you control over your wealth and probably make profits. Cash is a dangerous thing to hold in times like this. It is ideal to invest in something that generates cash flow or something that will at the very least bring back your money when sold.

4- REDUCE YOUR DEBTS
It is easier to get into debt than to get out. The problem of being in debt is that you become a slave to your creditors. Your financial health becomes at risk. You must understand that debt is the first step to financial collapse whether as an individual or organization. When there is economic hard times like this, people who are in debt are the first to go down. So, if you can pay off any debt you may have, it will go a long way towards improving your financial situation. By reducing the amount of expenses you have to cover you will be better prepared to handle a financial loss. And if you are lucky, you won’t have to worry about people knocking on your door. You only have to concentrate on improving your living standard.

Watch out for the second part on how to profit from inflation. Please live your comments and share with your friends and loved ones.
