Politics / Re: Atiku Vs Tinubu Vs Obi How They Stand On National Development Benchmarks by AmbHafizu(m): 10:58pm On Feb 23, 2023
Credible candidate is Atiku
ochejoseph:

It was Peter Drucker who said that "effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes". This Saturday offers millions of Nigerians especially young people the opportunity to look beyond emotions, tribal affiliation, or religious sentiments to elect a President with a proven capacity to lead us out of the current mess we have found ourselves.

The purpose of this write-up is to help us look at the vital areas of national development and the capacity of the leading candidates to deliver based on their experience and antecedents.

Education: In terms of educational qualifications, Atiku is the most educationally qualified among the leading candidates, with an MSc in International relations from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, UK. Obi has an average Bachelor's in Philosophy from UNN, while Tinubu has a questionable degree in accounting from the United States.

In terms of their contribution to education, Atiku is far above his competitors towering above them in terms of direct and indirect contributions to the development of education in Nigeria. As Vice President, his passion for education led him to directly intervene in the plight of Anambra school children who were left at home for over two years by Mbadinuju, it was also under the OBJ - Atiku led government that the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme was launched.

Atiku built Africa's first development university, the American University of Nigeria where rescued Chibok girls were given scholarships. He has also vowed to pay all the withheld and outstanding salaries owed ASUU members and other university workers to underscore his commitment to education.

Tinubu, on the other hand, has no history of support for education beyond a few secondary schools he built during his tenure as governor of Lagos, same goes for Obi and none of them have also gone back to school to earn an additional degree since leaving school.

Peter Obi's record on ASSU strikes and lecturer welfare is also abysmal. Under him, University students stayed at home for years while he owed some educational workers for 36 months.

Job Creation: If there is one qualification the next Nigerian leader needs is the ability to create jobs. Tinubu is the worst when it comes to this benchmark because even though he eats from virtually every taxpayer in Lagos, he has no business that creates real jobs in manufacturing or other key sectors that drive the economy.

Obi is not far behind because as a trader, Obi's major supermarket businesses are import-based most of which take jobs from Nigeria and send them overseas to countries where those goods are manufactured. In contrast, Atiku's businesses are massive creators of jobs. In some states, Atiku is the highest employer of labour after the government because his companies are into manufacturing, agro-based products, and other key drivers of job creation in the economy.

Power: No economy can develop without power. Energy generation is the single reason why most companies are not making profits even banks are now closing early because of the prohibitive cost of power generation. Peter Obi travelled all the way to Egypt to learn about power generation yet he does not know the meaning of "green energy"! This is after 8 years as governor of one of Nigeria's biggest states.

Tinubus's credentials in power generation are far better than Obi's because he single-handedly championed the Lagos state Independent Power Project (IPP) handled by the American Company, ENRON to generate 90 megawatts of electricity which led to some improvements in power supply in Lagos.

Atiku's first-class hands-on experience in the areas of power generation and transmission is one area Nigeria stands to benefit from when elected into office. The OBJ - Atiku-led administration built or started most of the power-generating entities we have in Nigeria today. The PDP-led administration of Jonathan and Sambo completed the rest.

Healthcare: Tinubu and Obi's records in the provision of healthcare are also very poor. Under Obi, Anambra State Government employed medical doctors were on strike for 13 months as a result of his refusal pay the right salary, poor conditions of service, and lack of proper working equipment, Nigeria cannot afford such tragedy. Lagos under Tinubu had healthcare centers that are known for delivering the worst healthcare services. The claim that Tinubu met one functional ambulance as Governor is also false.

Atiku even as a private citizen is actively involved in the provision of healthcare for Nigerians beyond what he did while serving as vice president between 1999-2007. Long after leaving office, Atiku Abubakar went into partnership with the Saudi German Hospital to establish a 100-bed hospital and referral center in Abuja among many other interventions in the health sector.

Security: We cant talk about the 2023 presidential elections without talking about who among the candidates has the experience to tackle our current security challenges. It is a fact that the Obasanjo-Atiku era is the most peaceful period since our country transitioned to democracy.

It was a period when the term bandits was alien to our dictionary. As the number two man in that government, Atiku has the requisite skills and experience to rejig our current security system like they did between 1999 to 2007. Obi, on the other hand, lacks experience in security matters which explains why the Ezu River tragedy where hundreds of people were murdered under his watch is still a mystery. Tinubu on the other hand lacks the energy needed for a robust engagement and monitoring that our collapsing security architecture requires.

Preparedness: Its unfortunate that Tinubu the "Emi Lokan" coroner appears totally confused and directionless after being handed his party ticket. To date, he does not have a real policy document, the entire APC manifesto of 2015 he helped prepare which they disowned and failed to implement has suddenly formed the foundation of the documents they released recently. Tinubu also fumbled when it came to naming a running mate resorting to placeholders, even when he finally found one it was a one-sided Muslim Muslim aggregation that is currently tearing the nation apart at a time religious sensitivity is at an all-time high. A man who does not know how to comport himself when the National Anthem of his country is being recited or played is not ready to lead.

Peter Obi towers above Tinubu when it comes to his level of preparedness even though he also employed the services of placeholders for running mate, his inexperience in handling responsibilities at the national level is a minus. Like Tinubu, Obi has no real policy document that tells Nigerians what he plans to do if they vote for him. Beyond mad men's tales and vomiting crammed statistics most of which are wrong, the LP presidential candidate does not appear ready to lead a complex nation like Nigeria.

Atiku and the PDP on the other hand appear to be the most prepared candidate and political party. Atiku is the only candidate that wrote and released his policy document with a clear blueprint of what he intends to do when elected into office. He named his running mate on schedule, inaugurated his multi-ethnic and multi-religious campaign council, and flagged off his campaign council right on time as directed by INEC.

Conclusion
Those who have mismanaged our country are always happy to see us disunited when it comes to the choice of a presidential candidate because as long as we are divided we will always enthrone our oppressors. Nigeria does not need a President that will learn on the job, Nigeria does not need a rookie to experiment or complicate an already messed up system, what Nigeria needs is an Experienced Atiku Abubakar to reset our country, get it working again and return her to the path of greatness.

May God Help Us to Help Ourselves This Saturday!!!!

God Bless Nigeria!!!

Politics / Re: What Atiku’s Election As President Means For Sports In Nigeria – Dr Oche Otorkpa by AmbHafizu(m): 12:39pm On Feb 17, 2023
Atiku will be the next president
ochejoseph:
What Atiku’s election as president means for sports in Nigeria – Dr Oche Otorkpa

The Deputy Director, Online Media for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council, Dr. Oche Otorkpa (FRSPH–UK) has said that PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar is the best choice Nigerians will make in the February 25th general election because Atiku will bring more development and unify the country including using sports.

According to him, Nigeria’s population is largely made up of youths between the ages of 18 and 35 and as such, the country needs a leader like Atiku who understands young people and has the ability to harness the energy in them through sports for greater development of the country.

Dr. Otorkpa said this in a statement to newsmen on Friday.

According to the Deputy Director, Atiku is a sports enthusiast whose manifesto also clearly contains concrete plans to revive the country’s sports sector which has been in failed state for decades.
He said with the support of his running mate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa who is also a sports enthusiast, Atiku’s government, if elected, would reset the fortunes of the sector and “rekindle the hopes and aspirations of our people.”

His statement reads thus:

Nigerians agree that sports especially football is a major unifying factor in the country. When it comes to sports, Ahmed Musa, Nwankwo Kanu, and Rashidi Yekini belong to all irrespective of tribe, religion, or the part of the country they come from. The passion for sports here is deep and the commitment is total.

Young people constitute the bulk of sports enthusiasts on the planet and available data indicates that Nigeria has the largest population of youth globally, with a median age of 18.1 years. In Nigeria, about 70% of our population falls under the age of 30, and 42% are under the age of 15. The size and youthfulness of our population should naturally give us an edge in the global sporting arena.

However, despite the sea of talented young lads in our country and the inextinguishable passion of our people for sports, our nation continues to trail behind in major sporting events both on the African continent and the international scene.

Apart from serving as a unifying factor, sports in Nigeria is a huge goldmine whose economic potential has remained untapped by businesses and investors. Nigeria needs a leader who understands young people, a leader with good business acumen, and the ability to harness the energy of young people using sports as a tool to significantly boost government revenues and concurrently serve as a catalyst for reviving our dying economy.

The 2023 Presidential election offers our country and its young people the opportunity to elect such a leader, one with the capacity to RESET the fortunes of sports in our country and rekindle the hopes and aspirations of our people.

That leader is His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party. Lovers of the English Premier League as well as sports enthusiasts in Nigeria describe him as the undisputable champion of sports development in our country. When it comes to sports and youth development, Atiku towers above all other presidential candidates with none coming close.

A passionate Arsenal fan and follower of both local and major football leagues around the world, Atiku has never hidden his passion for the development of sports in Nigeria. As Vice President of Nigeria from 1999-2007, Atiku and President Obasanjo superintended over some of Nigeria's greatest moments in sports development. During that period they built the Abuja National Stadium, the Games Village, as well as the neighboring infrastructures which hosted the All Africa Games in October of 2003. The main structures used for that event are still being used today to host major sporting and non-sporting events in Nigeria.

Under the PDP Led administration of Obasanjo and Atiku, sports associations and federations no matter how small were rejigged while facilities at major stadiums in the country were also upgraded which enabled Nigeria and Ghana to jointly host the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in the year 2000, exactly twenty years after the nation first hosted the 12th edition of the prestigious African football competition in 1980.

Beyond the passion for sports, electing H.E Atiku Abubakar and Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa a first-class medical doctor and a star table tennis player will redefine sports as we know it in Nigeria because at the core of Atiku’s policy document is a national plan that seats well with sports in view of the fact that it seeks to restore Nigeria’s unity through equality, social justice, and cooperation, among various people which epitomizes what sports and sporting events stand for.

This Presidential election is a battle between a PDP candidate who fully understands a league table and the intricacies of sports and a confused APC candidate who dances reggae when the national anthem of his country is being played. May God Help Us To Help Ourselves on the 25th of February, 2023.

Our visit to southern Kaduna today was memorable. One highlight was the numerous admirers we met on our way, so much so that we were slightly delayed for our engagements. At our stakeholders' engagements which included religious leaders, professional groups, social-cultural groups, and students, we were presented with various issues, including the absence of any federal establishment in Southern Kaduna.

I gave my word that if elected President, every concern raised will be addressed, and none will be left unattended. -AA

Politics / The Northern Leaders Consultative Forum Has Endorsed Atiku Abubakar, Presidentia by AmbHafizu(m): 8:51pm On Dec 03, 2022
The Northern Leaders Consultative Forum has endorsed Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The group comprises Christian and Muslim religious and political leaders in the north — including Yakubu Dogara, former speaker of the house of representatives.

The group endorsed Abubakar on Friday at a media conference in Abuja, following the adoption of a report by its technical criteria committee.

The report was presented by Simon Achuba, former deputy governor of Kogi state.

Advertisement
The group said after evaluation of all the presidential candidates, Abubakar is “the best”.

“It is evident that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is heading for implosion and extinction; hence, it cannot be the party for now and in the future, because of its rejection to embrace inclusiveness in a diverse country like Nigeria. After the 2023 elections, APC may be dead and buried as a political party,” the report reads.

“While the duo (NNPP and LP) may emerge as strong contenders in the political arena in the future, from all indications, PDP appears to be the best option to adopt and support.

Advertisement
“All it takes is to sustain and tackle some of the problems and challenges this country is facing.

“Certainly, with proper consultations and inclusive appointments, which is mindful of the federal character principle with a sincere consideration of diverse issues such as religious affiliation, geographical location, and ethnic identity, which many believe will enhance justice, fairness and equity, after a careful evaluation of all the issues highlighted above, we hereby recommend the adoption of the PDP to all lovers of democracy in Nigeria for the 2023 presidential electio bn.”

The report was put to a voice vote by Dogara and was unanimously adopted by the members.

Politics / The Story Of My Life By Atiku Abubakar by AmbHafizu(m): 7:06am On Nov 28, 2022
THE STORY OF MY LIFE
By Atiku Abubakar

I was born on November 25, 1946 in Jada, Adamawa State, Nigeria. I was named after my paternal grandfather, Atiku Abdulkadir. It was the practice among the Fulani people to name their first sons after their paternal grandfathers.

My grandfather, Atiku, came originally from Wurno in Sokoto State. There, he had met and befriended Ardo Usman, a Fulani nobleman from what is now known as Adamawa State. My grandfather decided to accompany his new friend back to his home- town of Adamawa.

They settled in Kojoli, a small village in Jada Local Government Council of Adamawa State. My grandfather farmed, kept livestock and raised a family. He married a local girl in Kojoli and gave birth to my father, Garba Atiku Abdulkadir. He was their only child. My father was an itinerant trader who traveled from one market to another selling imitation jewelry, caps, needles, potash, kola nuts and other nick-knacks which he ferried around on the back of his donkey. He also kept some livestock and cultivated guinea corn, maize and groundnuts.

When it was time for him to marry, my father chose a young girl from nearby Jada town whose parents had migrated from Dutse, now the capital of Jigawa State. My mother, Aisha Kande, was born in Jada. Both my father and paternal grandfather were learned men. They gave free Islamic classes to adults and young people in Kojoli during their spare time. As a young boy growing up in Kojoli, my parents doted on me. They tried their best to provide for me and to ensure that I grew up in a wholesome environment of love and spirituality. My father saw me as a rare gift, a child of destiny. My parents tried unsuccessfully to have more children.

GOING TO SCHOOL My father, Garba Atiku Abdulkadir, was fond of me. He wanted me to become an Islamic scholar, herdsman, farmer and trader – just like him. He was a deeply religious man who was suspicious of Western education which he believed could corrupt the impressionable minds of young people. My father did not want me to go to school. He tried to hide me from the prying eyes of Native Authority officials who had embarked on compulsory mass literacy campaign in the region. My father soon discovered that he could not resist the wind of change that was blowing through the area at the time. My mother’s older brother, Kawu Ali who had received a little education through adult literacy classes, registered me at Jada Primary School in January 1954 as Atiku Kojoli. For trying to stop me from going to school, my father was arrested, charged to an Alkali court and fined 10 Shillings. He refused to pay the fine. He said he had no money. He spent a few days in jail until my maternal grandmother, who made local soap for sale in the community, raised the money to pay the fine and father was released to her. But my father was not a happy man. He was sad and angry that his only child had been taken away from him to be exposed to a strange world. He saw Western education as a threat to their cherished values and way of life.

FATHER’S DEATH Three years after I started school, tragedy struck in December 1957. I was then11 years old. I was just about to begin the Senior Primary School in Jada as a boarding pupil. My father drowned while trying to cross a small river known as Mayo Choncha on the outskirts of Toungo, a neighbouring town. The river was in high tide following a heavy rainfall. Father’s body was recovered the following day and buried in Toungo according to Islamic rites. He was less than 40 years old when he died.

I built an Islamic primary school at his burial site years later to immortalize him. He was a simple, hard working, kind, honest and God-fearing man. I miss him a lot. After my father’s death, the task of raising me fell on my mother, Kande, and her childless sister, Azumi, as well as my father’s extended family members in Kojoli. Although people were generally kind and caring towards me, it was difficult for relatives to fill the vacuum left by my father. As such, I was often sad and lonely. Father’s death pained me greatly. I resolved to work hard, remain focused and be successful in life to make my father proud. I was sure that he was somewhere watching over me. I did not want to disappoint him. I wish father had lived long enough to see the benefits of Western education in my life.

KADUNA, KANO & ZARIA After completing my primary school in Jada in 1960, I was admitted into Adamawa Provincial Secondary School in Yola. I joined 59 other young boys from Adamawa and beyond in January 1961 to begin a five-year high school journey. The school’s motto is Tiddo Yo Daddo, a Fulani aphorism for “Endurance is Success”. It reminded us daily that success in life would only come to those who worked hard and persevered. Adamawa Provincial Secondary School, like others in the region, belonged in the second category of post-primary institutions in Northern Nigeria. The most prestigious schools were the Government Colleges in Zaria and Keffi. Pupils who excelled in the entrance examination went to the Government Colleges; those who did reasonably well went to the Provincial Secondary Schools; average students were sent to the Craft Schools in the various Divisions; and those who failed the examination were sent to Farm Centres which were established in all the Districts. It was a good system which took care of everyone irrespective of his or her level of intelligence.

When I was 15, I spent my school holiday at home, working as a clerk in Ganye Native Authority. My boss was Adamu Ciroma, the then District Officer. From my holiday job earnings, I bought a house for my mother in Ganye, the headquarters of the local government council. The thatched mud bungalow had two rooms plus a kitchen and bathroom. It cost me about nine Pounds Sterling. My mother was very happy and proud of me. I had saved her from homelessness after her older brother sold the family house in Jada without her knowledge.

SERVING IN THE CUSTOMS

Before completing my Diploma in Law programme in June 1969, a team from the Federal Civil Service Commission came on a recruitment drive to the university. By chance one of the interviewers found in my file a report that I had once been found suitable to join the police force and had in fact received some training in 1966. This in- formation was brought to the attention of the chairman of the interview panel who promptly ruled. “O.k., you go to the Department of Customs and Excise”. That was how I joined the Department of Customs and Excise in June 1969. The invisible hand that has always shaped my life had once again steered me towards my destiny. After my training at the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos and at the Customs Training School in Ebute Metta in Lagos, I was posted to Idi Iroko border station. My colleagues and I were tasked with collecting duties on imported and exported goods, stop- ping the entry and exit of banned items, and arresting and prosecuting smugglers. I was posted in 1972 to Ikeja Airport in Lagos and later to Apapa ports in Lagos. I saw Customs not as a punitive institution but as a way of making money for government. Instead of seizing goods and extorting money from their owners, I made money for government.

A lot of people tried unsuccessfully to induce me. I was posted to Ibadan mid 1975 and promoted Superintendent of Customs. This was during the memorable days of General Murtala Muhammed, the nation’s new military leader who had electrified the nation with his campaign for discipline, probity, hard work, patriotism and dedication to duty. I admired General Muhammed and tried to promote the same values and attitudinal change in our office. I was nick-named “Murtala Muhammed Junior” by my Customs subordinates in Ibadan because they said I was behaving like him. Although I was second-in-command in Ibadan, I used to order late-comers to be locked out of their offices.

I was sad to hear about General Muhammed’s assassination on February 13, 1976 during a failed military coup. Some of those who were later implicated in the coup and killed were well known to me. But I did not know they were involved in a coup plot. Shortly after that failed coup, I was transferred to Kano in 1976.

ATIKU UNVEILS PLANS TO REJIG THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY, PROMISES TO ENSURE AN ENABLING ENVIRONMENT AND INCENTIVES FOR MORE INVESTMENTS IN THE OIL AND GAS SECTOR

The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming general elections, Atiku Abubakar today, showcased his dept of knowledge in resolving the numerous challenges affecting the country with strong response policies required to revive the Nigerian economy. Atiku made this submission in Lagos today, at an interactive session with the Business Dialogue Stakeholders Forum, held in Eko Hotels.

At the session were members of the PDP presidential campaign council, corporate icons, business moguls and captains of industries, including: Jim Ovia, Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu, Oba Otudeko, Peter Okocha, Aig Imokhuede, Asue Ighodalo among others.

In his opening remarks, the former vice-president enumerated his perspectives on the Nigerian economy, by making references to the GDP third quarter report and the recent publication on the nation's poverty index, noting how fragile the Nigerian economy has become, as we are currently facing acute fiscal challenges.

The Wazirin of Adamawa in the question and answer session took time to explain his views on a wide range of issues, ranging from insecurity, monetary policy, power, manufacturing, unemployment and Agriculture.

In the Oil and Gas sector, the PDP presidential flag bearer observed that the current regime did not have the necessary policy framework that will enhance performance in that sector, which should have improved revenue for the country.

If elected President come 2023, Atiku promised to ensure an investment friendly policy, with a strong legislative framework that will provide security with reasonable incentives that will attract much needed investments from the IOCs.

Atiku Abubakar Met CAN

I have just concluded my interactive session with the Christian Association of Nigeria. It was a rewarding experience for me and the leadership of CAN. My policy prescriptions to RECOVER Nigeria appears to align with the demands of the association greatly. We all agreed that there needs to be a restructured Nigeria that will be more inclusive and more secured with greater opportunities for citizens to fulfil their interests irrespective of tribe, tongue or mode of worship. Above all, I stressed the inevitability of CHANGING the CHANGE that has, in the past seven years plus, led us to a socio-economic and political cul de sac.

I thank the National Executive Committee of CAN for the opportunity to share my thoughts with them on the pathway to a New Nigeria. I look forward to other engagements with other critical stakeholders in the country in our quest to Recover Nigeria. -AA

NORTHEAST HAS OPPORTUNITY TO PRODUCE ANOTHER TAFAWA BALEWA IN ME. -AA

~~~ATIKU ABUBAKAR
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says the party’s supporters in the Northeast have an opportunity to produce another Tafawa Balewa by voting for him in 2023.
Mr Abubakar stated this at the Pantami stadium, Gombe while addressing supporters during his campaign launch in the state.
He said it had been a long time since the sub-region produced the president of the country and that his candidature was an opportunity to produce another president through a vote for PDP.
“Most of you were not born when the late Prime Minister of Nigeria, Sir Tafawa Balewa was in office; you now have another opportunity to produce Abubakar Tafawa Balewa in me,’’ he said.
Mr Abubakar said his coming to Gombe State was home coming and that he would ensure that the people in the state were empowered and business supported to create jobs if elected in 2023.
“We promise to expand your businesses so that we can create more jobs for our young men and women; we also promise that the Dadin Kowa Dam is reactivated to produce electricity and irrigation farming,” he said.
The PDP presidential candidate said the economy and agriculture would be prioritised and roads within the Northeast would be reconstructed to enhance trade and commerce.
Mr Abubakar also pledged to address insecurity in the Northeast and ensure that peace was restored to fast-track development.
Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom who was the chairman of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council said Abubakar remained the most qualified amongst the candidates.
Mr Emmanuel stated that a vote for Abubakar would restore the country to the path of progress and improve the wellbeing of the common man.
Also, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State and also the Director-General, PDP presidential Campaign Organisation appealed to supporters to vote for PDP in 2023.
Mr Tambuwal said Mr Abubakar’s administration would revive the economy to ensure that commerce and manufacturing become the cornerstone for the benefit of the people of Gombe.
Amongst the party executives that attended the ceremony was the immediate past governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of the party flag to Jibrin Barde the state PDP governorship candidate.
Tinubu can't lead Nigeria
This is how Tinubu's hand supported in APC presidential rally held yesterday in Jos.
A person who can't rise his hand and say hello to his people how do you think he can lead you?
It's shame to Nigerian to vote him as President of federal republic of Nigeria.
