airsaylongcome: If there's no passion, then forget about it. You won't succeed if money is the only driver. Sometimes, just the need to solve a problem without earning money forces you to learn the deeper stuff. I will illustrate with an example, I work as a VoIP engineer for a US employer. For years I messed about with VOIP in my house. Played with the system, made mistakes, watched YouTube vids and learned some more. All without a prospect of a local job let alone remote. Was on it on and off for 5years. When I had my interview, just that experience of doing it without earning was overwhelming proof that I had passion for the field. My starting pay blew my mind
And it is Data Analytics or Data Analyst not the Analystics you put up there. That already shows that you are not conversant with the field.
For Nigerian Market, Web Dev Sir, thanks for the swift reply and that was a typo error. I have been doing my research on data analytics for some time now. I want someone to be real with me, especially a Nigerian. I'm tired of reading "your passion and strength" that's all I see on the internet. If someone comes to me ask me for advice on which is the best branch of engineering to study I will say Civil because you can be self-employed, next electrical from experience they are the most sort after in industries (looking at job advert) etc. There are people who have a passion for teaching but It doesn't pay the bills. I am a mechanical engineer by profession which I haven't been so lucky, the main reason I am switching to IT is the prospect/money. Why are most Nigerians switching to nursing as soon as they get their feet on US soil, bros is the pay nothing else. |

Crime › A Teacher Was Sacked For Hitting A Royal Blood. by ambr055i(op): 8:16pm On Nov 25, 2021 |
A friend of mine was giving a story at her place of work. It goes like this...
A new teacher was moved to a junior primary to invigilate a class. During the exam, this said teacher hit the Oba's granddaughter with a ruler not very hard though but you know these rich folks' kids. The daughter(princess) showed up to the school infuriated told the mobile police attached to her to flog the teacher fifty strokes with a horse wipe everybody (teachers) were on their knees begging she refused and didn't listen, though the teacher wasn't flogged because the mopol noticed the teacher was married.
Finally, the Princess insisted the teacher must be sacked immediately, and it was done. She sent her chief the next day to confirm if the teacher was sacked. Though, the princess is still insisting on the details of the teacher. Rumors had it that such occurrence and the teacher involved lost her job from Abuja and can't be employed in Nigeria.
Wasn't her action too drastic, the teacher didn't know the granddaughter? How can a parent dictate to you how you run your school, the worst she can do is withdraw her kids. |

I remember going to get something from a close-by shop. It was so sunny that I had to face down while walking, a lady saw me and asked why was I walking that way and I told her the reason. Her reply was "I'm a man, it doesn't matter if I'm dark and ugly (she made a funny face how one can be) that I will still get a beautiful woman, she went further to say that the most important thing is my pocket". And my reply, "oh as a man I do not deserve enjoyment, I should just keep putting myself in harm's way just to make money for a woman".
I see some men wear rags, while their wives are shining. You hear them say " I want to look good for you", so is it a crime for me to look good as well? I refuse to be in that category. |

Nnatuu: In order of priority…
First, gain a skill. Reason - it’s a lifetime investment with minimal risk and opens more opportunities to network and grow.
Second. Start a side business with small capital. Especially what you can manage effectively alongside your job. Reason- it’s an investment with some risk but can open up doors of independence for you.
Third: Go for PHD. This is good but be sure to deeply inspect what you expect here. PHD abroad is good but critically evaluate how much funds you have to pursue both the visa processing and all. Be careful a bout situations where you e come halfway and the entire ups and downs of visa processing gulps your 900k or even more, and visa is not guaranteed.
DON’TS
1. Get a house. Reason, it’s NOT an investment! It takes money not give. being very honest with you, 900k will not be enough to rent a house with key properties. And leave you some money to live with.
For a girlfriend and living independently, put that on hold until you have enough resources to handle that. Any woman who does not accept you the way you are will never accept you, they can only accept your money when you’re rich but not you. This is what I'm scared of, what if after pursuing the whole school thing and it doesn't pull through. Though, I have this belief I will scale through on the first trial. |

gabicon: You have a BEng and MEng that you haven't used, what is the guarantee that the Ph.D. you will use it? I mean stop leaving in the past, today's world is all about results and solving problems and not gathering degrees. You need to understand that the present education system we run has outlived itself, it was designed for the industrial revolution which was characterized by mass production, to mass-produce goods you need to mass-produce people, that's why we take the same test or we are categorized by a grading system but the real world is categorized by results. The education system relevant in today's world is rather bespoke, the number one sought-after skill today is how creatively can one solve problems. It will shock you that youtube is a better university than most of the universities in the country because with youtube I can learn to solve problems and get paid for it.
You need to go through the journey of self-discovery, what are you gifted in? what are you passionate about? This is where your breakthrough lies, the beauty of the whole thing is that there are free tests you can do online to know your gifts. Go do these tests or ask people close to you what they think you are good at, tie your gifts to a skill of the future and start working on learning the skill, join professional bodies and forums that offer the skill.
As for your accommodation, I will advise you to give yourself say 2 years to find your gift and master it in form of a skill. So create a 2 year plan with a timeline and milestones, remember only discipline will make you follow through with your plan. The reason I ask you to stay is because of stability, at your uncle's place you don't have to think about rent, food, utilities, etc. secondly learning and mastering a skill will involve so financial commitment.
God bless you and see you at the top The reason for the Phd (US) isn't because I want to get a degree but is the cheapest way out of the country when looking at the likes of UK, Canada, and Australia |

ashatoda: I will advise that have if you have a side hustle you can invest in go for it, and try to also have one of the tech skills you mentioned and is interested in. But the main advice is to think and work more on the third option which is traveling out. Why I say this is because of the plethora of opportunities abounding outside and what you can achieve for yourself in a sane environment. Nigeria is.also good but the clime is not encouraging to people who are not willing to cut corners and the business climate is so unpredictable. Regarding your health I believe there's more standard health institutions abroad which will cater effectively for your health in as much as you have a legal stay. This should be your end goal but if there's any way to use the funds you have effectively to.make more in order to hasten the goal go for it. The tech skills is a means also so that when you get over there you won't be stranded. So the ultimate goal is traveling, tech skills is intermediate goal while growing the savings is the present goal. This is my own advice or let me say my thoughts about the issue on ground Thanks bro, |

Please, I need your advice because right now I'm confused about where to go, it's a lifelong decision.
I just turned 34 last month, still living with my uncle, but no pressure on his part is a big house. Currently, I teach in a school where my net salary and my home lesson inclusive are approx. N 100000 a month. I have a master's degree in engineering, so I haven't put that certificate to use. I have a saving of 900k, it will be higher by December. Although it would have been more than that, I lost 400,000 to the detriment of a bad investment. Last two years, I had an illness that struck (ENT related), which doesn't have a cure. One of the symptoms is vertigo (a sensation of feeling off-balance). This made me change my mind about travelling. For a few months now, I haven't had the experience.
I have three thoughts, but I can only do one at a time.
Firstly, leave my uncle's house, get an apartment. Use the rest of the money to start a business as a side hustle while working with the school.
Secondly, leave my uncle's house, get an apartment. Next, I invest my time in a tech skill (web dev, programming or data science).
Thirdly, travel to the US for my PhD program. I have already been preparing for my GRE before now.
