EducationRe: How The Economic Crisis Pushed Me To Learn Digital Skills by Amigos12(m): 5:07pm On Oct 29, 2024
Beekeeper1:
A few years back, the economic situation was like a storm that no one could avoid. Prices skyrocketed, jobs grew scarce, and people were barely getting by. I had always thought I’d found stability with my office job, but suddenly, “job security” started feeling like an old myth.

At first, I ignored the signs. I figured things would turn around soon; they always did, right? But one morning, I walked into the office to find a memo waiting: budget cuts. Just like that, half the team was gone, and those of us left were hit with pay cuts and additional workload. It was a harsh reminder of how quickly things could change—and how unprepared I was to handle it.

The Wake-Up Call

After months of scrimping, borrowing, and debating which bills to prioritize, I knew I had to make a change. I’d seen stories online of people making a living from freelancing, e-commerce, or digital marketing, but it all seemed so foreign. I’d convinced myself that you had to be a tech wizard to thrive in the digital world. But, with no other options left, I decided to give it a try. After all, what did I have to lose?

My First Steps into the Digital World

I started small, taking free online courses on social media management, basic graphic design, and content creation. The nights were long, and the learning curve felt steep, but I was surprised at how quickly I got hooked. Each new skill opened doors to another, and before I knew it, I was designing social media posts, writing blog content, and even managing some friends’ small business pages.

But then came the next hurdle: finding clients. I realized that knowing a skill is one thing, but selling that skill is a whole different ball game. I pitched myself on freelancing platforms, reaching out to small business owners and even family friends. My first client paid peanuts, but I didn’t mind—I was gaining confidence.

The First Taste of Freedom

One day, I landed a gig creating content for a local brand. It was challenging, but I loved the creative freedom and the direct impact I was having on their business. Unlike my day job, where I felt like a small cog in a big machine, here I was in control, seeing results, and learning on the go. Soon, one client became three, then five, and I found myself considering a complete career shift.

Learning digital skills wasn’t just about survival anymore; it was about independence. I realized I didn’t have to be tied to one employer or location. I could work for clients halfway across the world, set my own hours, and make money on my own terms.

Looking Back

Today, I’m grateful for that economic storm. It forced me out of my comfort zone and into a world I would have never explored otherwise. I don’t know if I’ll ever feel completely safe from economic ups and downs, but now I have the skills and confidence to adapt. And that’s the best job security anyone could ask for.

In the end, that crisis taught me a life-changing lesson: the power of self-investment. When you develop skills that no one can take away from you, you’re not just surviving—you’re thriving.

You go to some places where they wear white long gowns with chef like caps they'll be grinding on mens pen1s in the name of praising God. No reverence or decorum.if we could see God with our physical or natural eyes, will we as Christians have the audacity to do things we do?

No regulations or discipline in the Christian domain.everything na freedom and come as you are

I might not like the violent nature of those ones that pray 5 times a day and count beads while muttering on a mat but you see the part i love about them, you cannot trespass because they know the importance of boundaries and they enforce their boundaries tenaciously. They are also ready to come for anyone that crosses their boundaries when it comes to their (SAW) no matter how stupid and obnoxious they appear but you see my own brothers and sisters in the faith, they have turned the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to comic skit on social media

You don see comedy skit makers dey shout Muhammed as a joke or exclamation in jokes. Andrew tate don kuku talk am no boundaries for Christiandom.this anything goes is why they have turned chosen to a butt of jokes
We joke too much in this country. Quite sad how it's actually christians that are making this trend. This generation has a lot of growing up to do.

If they delist naira from crypto exchanges and stop them from trading P2P, then we would move to off ramp services.

There, we would convert our USDT to our local currency. So many off ramp providers out there.

Apart from off ramp, we would use Telegram bot, and normal P2P without exchange intermediary. 100 of options would be provided.

I would even suggest to a decentralized exchange like PancakeSwap or Uniswap to offer P2P services. I wonder who FG would contact when decentralized exchange adopts that.

For more context about decentralized exchange:
There's no KYC so all transactions are done via smart contract. So you won't need to know anybody at all, just signing of the transactions and the contract executes it. Even SEC finds it difficult clamping down on DEX since the team is completely anonymous.

Modified: For those of you quoting to tell me FG will completely ban crypto, it's like Satoshi Nakamoto is a joke to you all 😂

DeepThroater:
How can you value your entire economy and currency on that of another sovereign nation's?

Here lies the problem.

The sooner we ditch the dollar and diversify our FX like how GEJ attempted the better we be.

Also GEJ proposed opening up a trading house in Lagos for our oil to be priced in naira.

When that proposal was floated , a Swiss Govt sponsored report came up with the fabulous lie of missing $50bn oil revenue to which Sanusi (a BlackRock appointee as VP Africa ) quickly vetted the unsubstantiated fake dossier.

The enemies of Nigeria are more from within than outside.

GBAM!!!

Unfortunately Tinubu can never do this, why? Because he has too much baggage the west will use against him. If Tinubu was to sign an executive order ,demanding all crude sales in Naira I can guarantee you that Naira would exchange to the dollar less than N100 to $1

Because every one wanting to buy our oil takes their dollar to buy our Naira before coming to buy oil there by making our Naira fly in value but like I said Tinubu isn't the leader to do this because just one call from the CIA reminding him they have files from his past which they never released he will immediately reverse the order.

This is why we wanted a leader like Obi who. Doesn't have such baggage the west can use to leverage against him.

Alas Nigeria go dey already las las

Houstency:
The Doctrine of Tinubu by Iyanuoluwa Bolarinwa
I am not here to sway your votes; however, if you are going to choose, go with your choice with two eyes wide open. You must know the following about the ruling party's candidate’s doctrine.
1. Opacity in public resources: Lagos State has been deliberately opaque about its finances and it’s intentional. The doctrine is that you can’t query what you don’t know. You can’t build a media siege against us if you don’t have the information. They will not be many details on public projects, spending and even attempts will be made to halt budget disclosures. It will be a total blackout on government finances.
2. Low-cost spending on technology with long-term PPP with govt agencies: Think about Alpha Beta and you can ask yourself what value they add to Lagos taxation that entitles them to 5% or 10% in perpetuity. That’s a model. There would be plenty of JVs and PPPs by briefcase “tech and consulting companies” that plug straws into public institutions and will take a percentage fee. There will be glimpses of efficiency but just people institutionalizing their benefits, almost for life. It’s a govt of plenty of compromises with several colliding interests — pick your spot and start chopping. “chop make I chop”
3. Money printing: Tinubu will realise that there’s no much liquidity by the books at the Federal level with the gargantuan debt servicing costs that are about to come. So, he will live to his promise — delink revenues from expenditures. That’s money printing galore. Emefiele or his replacement knows this job well. Currency devaluation on steroids and inflation at high levels. Well, his deft use of media and social media crew will be there to gaslight you/Ukraine/US/whatever as the problem.
4. Lagos Federal Properties: For a long time, several properties in Lagos under FG have just been hanging around with no valuation or selling opportunity. At a time, the Lagos political elite felt entitled to places like TBS. Kemi Adeosun thought of something like that but it didn’t work. You have the master in place now. How did LG Secretariat in Ikoyi turn to skyscraper or how did Lagos Polytechnic land turn into his private TV station? You know how “boys” procure these federal properties (especially Federal Secretariat) under JVs or outright discounted rates? It’s all under the wings of BAT — everything state to federal.
5. The war on anti-corruption is over because there’s no more “corruption”: Lagos had not charged anyone for corruption except its Speaker, who didn’t lose his position but was only a “victim” of local politics. If you speak to many Lagos folks, they don’t believe in federal institutions sorting their issues. Corruption is rife in Lagos, but who are you to talk when everyone is eating? There’s no “corruption” because there’s no one to shout it, and it’s a closed circle; you must be hoping to get in. I don’t understand what moral authority Tinubu will use to fight corruption. Maybe, you tell me. Well, if you are in opposition, you better be squeaky clean. You have a politician in public office.
6. Compromise every institution with nepotism to perpetuate a monarchical reign: There’s a reason why Tinubu still carries power that none of the class of 1999 didn’t have. He took the well-oiled machinery of the party called the structure with him. The market women, town unions and anything retail enough to win votes. When his mother died, he put his daughter as the leader of market women(Iyaloja), reinforcing his grip. He allows everyone to stroll into government and, interestingly, don’t touch his Alpha Beta war chest that funds his structure. So, with unlimited FG funds? It’s even easier. Traditional rulers, religious leaders and every fabric that controls the psyche of the Nigerian would end up in his pocket. He’s either putting his people in levers or sharing the largesse to go round. Also, watch how for the civil service and nouveau princes catapulted quickly up the ranks. INEC will need more vigilance if we take lessons with how LASIEC is run.
7. Disarm opposition to easily create one-party state: Where would the opposition be? They will exist but just merely exist except another money-miss-road in a Niger Delta Governor tries to rebuild the party with state money. Many Governors wish they could lead the opposition but don’t just have the resources. As per the Obidient movement, they would have to work twice as hard to remove not just him but his surrogates. The Asiwaju way would be the way out for most folks. You will be surprised how everyone would troop to his side and plead allegiance. As a person without grievances to hold, everyone is welcome. He can finally see the decimation of PDP and also triumph over Obasanjo. The Lagos PDP is the evidence here. Too many moles in Jagaban's pocket, and you will see that at the national as well. He’s a master strategist for good or bad reasons; choose your poison.
8. Big on propaganda: It’s a govt that would use media ferociously to boost projects that seem to deliver for the masses but themselves. If you walk the inner streets of Lagos, you will understand Lagos is for show(The cappuccino effect). That’s what it means. The media is in Tinubu’s pocket. He has done well for them. Just watch how basic moves are amplified and heavy metal communication is used on the people to doubt your capacity to state whether the country is progressing. The media aide industry with social media wings is about to thrive. Won’t you plug in?
9. Progress: Well, it can’t be all gloom in his Presidency. You will see progress. The kind of progress that Buhari gave us in debt-ridden infrastructure and failed in almost every other thing — education, health, security, economy, national cohesion etc. Well, Tinubu will provide you with that as well. He will assemble some smart-ass folks too, giving them the power to deliver outstanding work in a few areas. In fact, he will surrender the Ministries to the political hacks, but the agencies, especially the revenue-generating, would be in his tight grip. Watch Lagos very well and check the loyalty of key govt agencies (not Commissioners) to Tinubu. Just marinate good ideas with some private sector panache; it would be a highlight of his govt. Who knows what it would be? It’s not a govt of all-around five stars but there will be bright spots to fool with some talk of progress.
10. Lagos to London Mafia : “Lagos today, London tomorrow, Oluwa loseyi”. Well, President Buhari left a template that you can be insensitive to citizens' yearnings to change the healthcare system and splurge public resources to fix yourself. Tinubu will not be different. All that travel will be done with public resources without any restraint. Nigeria’s Aso Rock is a septuagenarian paradise. There won’t be limits and you know how that worked under Buhari and Yar’adua; someone in the shadows will emerge and fill that gap, wield power as Chief of Staff or even an unknown portfolio. Time will reveal things as such folks secure their primordial interests as well. It’s just business as usual since Nigerians are hard of hearing.

Sai Buhari.

If only people knew what oil countries such as Angolans and Venezuela folks are passing through during this global crude oil price recess, they would thank God Buhari came in rather than Jonathan who looted us dry during oil boom when it was selling at $110 per barrel for five years unlike the paltry $50 it has been selling under APC. If the looting Jonathan couldn't save during the time of plenty and was already borrowing, how would he have carried on during this crude oil price recess?

Despite Buhari administration earning 60% less yet he's come up with plenty projects such as

Our railways at itakpewarri, Lagos-ibadan, kaduna-abuja etc,

The production of low cost fertilizers,

Zik maoseleum

Baro inland port,

Rice mills,

Foreign reserve increase from $26b to $43b,

Construction of our express highways such as enuguonitsha, Lagos-ibadan etc.

Social policy schemes such as tradermoni, npower etc

Payment of all pensions of airline staffs that were forced to retire after the shambolic privatisation by Atiku. PDP didn't pay them in the last 16 years.

And most especially, stabilizing us through this recession which happened because jonathan failed to save despite earning 60% more than Buhari coupled with the fall in the price of crude oil from $110 per barrel in 5 years under Jonathan to a paltry $50 per barrel under Buhari administration yet Buhari was able to keep us afloat while having many projects to his name thereby surprising Ngozi Iweala and Charles Soludo who predicted recession because jonathan looted and failed to save during the time of plentiful.

Sai Baba. PDP, Neva again
Yes about the inability to save, the ijaw man was to soft for my liking but you can ask around 'What role did the lion of ubima play as the Governor's forum Chairman concerning it?'
