For anyone considering studying in Edmonton Alberta at schools such as NAIT or The University of Alberta, as someone who lives here I can give some insight on some of the cost of living expenses.
An apartment here can be quite expensive , with a 1 bedroom starting at about $850 up to $1300 a month, plus utilities. A room can be had for about $500+. There are some areas in the north east and south east that should be avoided due to street crime from crack cocaine and methamphetamine abuse. Though rents there can be much more affordable.
The cheapest grocery store is No Frills. Though if on a limited budget I'd recommend buying food at Giant Tiger / dollar stores. African foods can be found along 107 avenue just north of downtown. If you're Muslim halal foods can be found throughout the city, and there are masjids in all areas of the city.
Winter here can get brutal with temps dipping to -20c - -30c with wind chills. I'd recommend a quality winter jacket and a warm hat. Kijji is a good place to find rentals, avoid craigslist as it's stacked deep with scammers. |

Yomalicious: @bluegirls/ my able V/O quote might not be wrong because just applying common sense and average processing times. Anything after June 17th approvals would probably be last week in August or first week in Sept all things been equal. This doesn't stop all those miraculous 20 days approval oh.
Let's just be hopeful. I fall after June 17th and I have decided not to check till mid Aug. I cannot come and die abeg.
Cheers Lol***Panic ke I applied July but am believing God to get my visa in 1 month time everything is just all about Faith am believeing God for it cos its my season of EVIDENCE. |

Ephetar: Hi nairalanders please I am currently about taking a decision regarding my future. I am a 26 years old single guy. I currently work in a company where I earn between 400-500k monthly( salary, allowance and personal hustling)... Now the issue is that I am contemplating on travelling to Canada to study pharmacy with the intention of staying there permanently after school or do a professional MBA here in Nigeria with the aim of growing through the ranks in the pharmaceutical industry. Please I need your contributions...
NB; cost of obtaining a pharmacy degree in Canada is about 10M...Should I invest the money in a business? God tears just dropped my cheek I never knew someone else in the same region and age mate has the same dream as me too. Everything is all about dreams and having helpers it has been my dreams I even have to send my documents to the school for assesment they required topics taught on each of those courses for my eligibility from my school since then i stopped but will continue with what i saw you post. Am a graduate of Pharmacology &therapeutics working as a pharmacist assistant am not comfortable with my job am all about increase also in that field Pharm D mainly As for helpers my greatest fear has been sponsor who will sponsor me with tuition of $17,000 tuition but I conquer it now following up to this goals. Believe me this is the best decision you can make being this age hence your 30yrs this dreams might be difficult to come true not just the Dr of pharm also many job opportunities for you in canada,Australia,Usa and many developed industries/countries working on improvement of healthcare with researches. Bro if you got the money go for it" If you got helpers go for it" If you got the dreams not just the money go for it" You inspired someone this morning next week am going back to my uni to ask that they requested. Note:500k is nothing compared to the recent exchange rate when you change the $$ currency to naira even a fruit picker in canada within a month can earn more than the 500k people see as big money here. #Goalgetters#feeelinginspired. |
