Amnesty International has called on the Federal Government to commence a “prompt, independent and effective investigation” of former and serving service chiefs for their responsibility in war crimes during the fight against Boko Haram in the North-East. The organisation said that these crimes included the killing of 8,000 persons, who were “murdered, starved, suffocated and tortured to death.” AI identified those to be tried for these alleged crimes as former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (retd.); former Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim (retd.); Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh; and Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah. The organisation said it had also petitioned the International Criminal Court with a request for their prosecution for war crimes in Nigeria.AI’s demand is contained in a report entitled, ‘Stars on their shoulders, Blood on their hands: War crimes committed by the Nigerian military’, released on Wednesday in Abuja. Details later… http://www.punchng.com/news/ai-wants-badeh-ihejirika-others-tried-for-war-crimes/ |

The new Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Sunday said it was normal for his predecessor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to leave the state in debt of over 300 billion naira. Mr. Ganduje, who spoke to the journalists, said Mr. Kwankwaso should be praised rather than criticised as he transformed the state. https://pointblanknews.com/pbn/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/yola-1.jpgThe governor said his predecessor committed no crime and went ahead to rationalise the huge debt as arising from the sudden drop in in oil revenue. “I don’t think Kwankwaso has committed any crime for living behind these huge liabilities because whatever happened was planned, coordinated and executed with me. I knew everything, the anticipations were high and we thought that things, according to oil money, will continue to be smooth. Suddenly, there was that disgracing drop,” Mr. Ganduje, who was deputy to Mr. Kwankwaso, said.https://www.informationng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Kwankwaso-Ganduje.jpg “In any case, living behind liabilities from one government to another is a normal thing. Those who are today shouting will do the same or even worst by the time they assumed office. My Governor Kwankwaso deserved to be highly praised for embarking upon the genuine transformational job in Kano state”. Mr. Ganduje said to achieve his campaign promises, he will trim the number of ministries in Kano and establish due process and anti- corruption offices. He said he will appoint a committee to look into how to increase the state’s internally generated revenue and assured that no one will be spared in the fight against corruption http://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/nwest/184093-kwankwaso-acted-right-leaving-kano-in-n300-billion-debt-governor-ganduje.html |
