tomakint: Go straight to your point and tell me what you believed about Our Lord Jesus Christ and stop all these rigmaroles!IS NOT WHAT I BELIEVE BUT WHO IS HE? he is a human being like you and me that can sleep, drink, be happy/angry and a prophet of God who follow prophecies of prophet Moses and preaches the same message other prophets of God teaching, you can not be a Muslim if you don't believe him as messenger of God not only him all the prophets that God sent below is muslim believe in jesus What Do Muslims Believe about Jesus? Muslims respect and revere Jesus (peace be upon him). They consider him one of the greatest of God’s messengers to mankind. The Quran confirms his virgin birth, and a chapter of the Quran is entitled ‘Maryam’ (Mary). The Quran describes the birth of Jesus as follows: (Remember) when the angels said, “O Mary, God gives you good news of a word from Him (God), whose name is the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, revered in this world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near (to God). He will speak to the people from his cradle and as a man, and he is of the righteous.” She said, “My Lord, how can I have a child when no mortal has touched me?” He said, “So (it will be). God creates what He wills. If He decrees a thing, He says to it only, ‘Be!’ and it is.” (Quran, 3:45-47) Jesus was born miraculously by the command of God, the same command that had brought Adam into being with neither a father nor a mother. God has said: The case of Jesus with God is like the case of Adam. He created him from dust, and then He said to him, “Be!” and he came into being. (Quran, 3:59) During his prophetic mission, Jesus performed many miracles. God tells us that Jesus said: “I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. I make for you the shape of a bird out of clay, I breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by God’s permission. I heal the blind from birth and the leper. And I bring the dead to life by God’s permission. And I tell you what you eat and what you store in your houses....” (Quran, 3:49) Muslims believe that Jesus was not crucified. It was the plan of Jesus’ enemies to crucify him, but God saved him and raised him up to Him. And the likeness of Jesus was put over another man. Jesus’ enemies took this man and crucified him, thinking that he was Jesus. God has said: ...They said, “We killed the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of God.” They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but the likeness of him was put on another man (and they killed that man)... (Quran, 4:157) Neither Muhammad nor Jesus came to change the basic doctrine of the belief in one God, brought by earlier prophets, but rather to confirm and renew it.1 |
tomakint: I can't figure out the points you are trying to drive at but what do you make out from this? Did Jesus Die or Not? Surah 3:144 is quite adamant that all messengers died before Muhammad. But then Surah 4:158 claims that Jesus was raised to God (alive?) and 4:157 falsely says Jesus did not die.he will certainly die after his 2nd coming http://www.aolnews.c...cholar/19530666 Little Evidence Jesus Died on a Cross, Says Scholar (June 27) -- The crucifix is the defining symbol of Christianity, a constant reminder to the faithful of the sacrifice and suffering endured by Jesus Christ for humanity. But an extensive study of ancient texts by a Swedish pastor and academic has revealed that Jesus may not have died on a cross, but instead been put to death on another gruesome execution device. Gunnar Samuelsson -- a theologian at the University of Gothenburg and author of a 400-page thesis on crucifixion in antiquity -- doesn't doubt that Jesus died on Calvary hill. But he argues that the New Testament is in fact far more ambiguous about the exact method of the Messiah's execution than many Christians are aware. "When the Gospels refer to the death of Jesus, they just say that he was forced to carry a "stauros" out to Calvary," he told AOL News. Many scholars have interpreted that ancient Greek noun as meaning "cross," and the verb derived from it, "anastauroun," as implying crucifixion. But during his three-and-a-half-year study of texts from around 800 BC to the end of the first century AD, Samuelsson realized the words had more than one defined meaning. Christophe Simon, AFP/Getty Images This iconic image of Christ dying on the cross may be misleading, according to theologian Gunnar Samuelsson, who says crucifixion was more rare than commonly thought. "'Stauros' is actually used to describe a lot of different poles and execution devices," he says. "So the device described in the Gospels could have been a cross, but it could also have been a spiked pole, or a tree trunk, or something entirely different." In turn, "anastauroun" was used to signify everything from the act of "raising hands to suspending a musical instrument." The manner in which Jesus died is further thrown into question by Samuelsson's discovery that crucifixion may have been an unusual form of punishment in the Roman Empire. Descriptions of crucifixions contained in the thousands of Hebrew, Aramaic, Latin and Greek manuscripts he examined most commonly referred to dead prisoners being placed on some form of suspension device, or living captives skewered on stakes. The first century Roman philosopher Seneca the Younger, for example, wrote about seeing a great many prisoners of war on "crosses" after one campaign. But the scribe then describes how a large number of the dead had been impaled. "If you search for ancient texts that specifically mention the act of crucifixion [as we understand it today]" he says, "you will end up with only two or three examples." That revelation stands in stark contrast to claims that appear in many books on the historical Jesus, as well as more general surveys of life under Roman rule, which state that prisoners were routinely nailed to crosses. (The Encylopaedia Britannica, for example, says crucifixion was an "important method of capital punishment" in Rome.) Of course, this lack of hard evidence doesn't mean that the Roman Empire was a crucifix-free zone. Samuelsson suspects that crucifixion was simply one of a great many methods of execution employed across the empire. He notes that Flavius Josephus -- a Jewish historian and adviser to three Roman emperors in the 1st century -- recorded how Roman soldiers were allowed to use their "wicked minds in various ways to execute" prisoners captured during a Jewish uprising. This suggests that the method of Jesus' execution may have been decided by legionnaires stationed at Calvary, and not by the state. "If we put this on the table, and think that the execution of Jesus was the result of the wicked mind of the soldiers at that very point, we can't know how he could have been executed," Samuelsson says. "The executions of that day could have taken a completely different form from ones the day before." The Swedish scholar isn't sure exactly why the crucifix went on to become the dominant Christian motif. But this symbol only seems to have become fixed in followers' minds long after Jesus' death, as the first T and X shaped crucifixes appear in Christian manuscripts around the 2nd century AD. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Samuelsson's thesis has caused something of an unheavenly row. While fellow theologians have complimented his highly detailed research, many critics in the blogosphere have claimed that he wants to undermine Christianity. Samuelsson -- who believes that "the man who walked this earth was the Son of God, and that he will return to judge the living and the dead" -- says this accusation is simply "stupid." "I'm really just a boring, conservative pastor and I start everyday reading the New Testament," he says. "But my suggestion is that we should read the text as it is, not as we think it is." |
Chongaiman: Dama zomo baya fushi da makashinsa sai da maratayinsa.Question: If Jesus' sole mission to mankind was to die on the cross, free them from the original sin, and provide salvation for them, then why did he never in his lifetime mention it to his followers? Why did he not spend night and day drumming these new concepts into their minds? Why did he himself observe the commandments of Moses so completely and so faithfully even up till his alleged death? In Matthew 19:16-21 when Jesus was asked for the path to heaven, why did he emphasize the keeping of the commandments of Moses but never mention the crucifixion nor the redemption or having "faith" in them? Why, when he was pressed for more, did he still not mention either a crucifixion nor a redemption but only claim that anyone who kept the commandments of Moses and sold his belongings would be "perfect"? Why did he not say "have faith in my crucifixion and forsake the commandments and you shall be 'perfect'"? |
tomakint: For the Records III;Christian scholar claims Jesus didn't die on the cross And then urges us all not to get "emotional" about the "evidence" Jesus did not die on cross, says scholar "Jesus may not have died nailed to the cross because there is no evidence that the Romans crucified prisoners two thousand years ago, a scholar has claimed. The legend of his execution is based on the traditions of the Christian church and artistic illustrations rather than antique texts, according to theologian Gunnar Samuelsson. He claims the Bible has been misinterpreted as there are no explicit references the use of nails or to crucifixion - only that Jesus bore a "staurus" towards Calvary which is not necessarily a cross but can also mean a "pole". Mr Samuelsson, a committed Christian himself, admitted his claims are so close to the heart of his faith that it is easy to react emotionally instead of logically." Wel, the bible says "And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced." (Zechariah 12:10). Psalm 22:16 describes it "For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. " And Isaiah 53:5 describes it again: "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed." John 19:6 refers to the angry mob outside Pilate's house "As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, "Crucify! Crucify!" But Pilate answered, "You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him." Mark 15:20 ... Then they led him out to crucify him. .... ... And they led him out to crucify him. ...Luke 23:33 "And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left." The method of execution defined as "Crucifixion is an ancient method of painful execution in which the condemned person is tied or nailed to a large wooden cross (of various shapes) and left to hang until dead. The term comes from the Latin crucifixio ("fixed to a cross", from the prefix cruci-, "cross", + verb figere, "fix or bind fast".) Crucifixion was in use particularly among the Persians, Seleucids, Carthaginians, and Romans from about the 6th century BC to the 4th century AD." Wikipedia Why man needs to search outside of the bible for "proof" when all the proof one needs as to its own veracity is beyond me. Why a 'scholar' who claims Christ would deny His manner of death though it is clear in the bible is beyond me to understand. Except, that the bible proves itself again, where Luke said "Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved." That scholar is "always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith;" (2 Tim 3:7- . The folly of those who search for proof of the bible outside of the bible and when they fail to find it, are at risk of the devil taking the word out of their hearts. I feel sorry for Mr Samuelsson. He is missing out on the perfect peace that passes all understanding. Always searching for something that he will never find is extremely exhausting, when, all along, he could have peace in the TRUTH.More Sharing ServicesShare http://the-end-time..com/2010/06/christian-scholar-claims-jesus-didnt.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/7849852/Jesus-did-not-die-on-cross-says-scholar.html Islam’s proof that Jesus did not die on the Cross Most religions that are non-Christian do accept the fact that if the Bible writes that Christ died on the cross, he actually did. There are a few with very apparent reasons that want to change this. Bahai’s spiritualize the meaning and in so doing change the facts. Islam denies the account so absolutely that they just chalk the whole story up to corruption and reinvent it. Ignoring the fact that these accounts are written by eyewitnesses of not only his death, but many more of his resurrection. Some of who would be classified as hostile witnesses. Muslim Claim – They took another in his place. Everyone knew this was Jesus he was on trial in front of the Jews when they cried out to crucify him! He was then taken to be given 39 lashes (40 –1 as mercy). When the centurion in charge determined that the prisoner is near death, the beating is finally stopped, then they are taken to crucifixion. Most did not survive the whipping. Jesus if alive, would never have allowed another to take his place when it was his mission to take ours. Only he could die in the place of sinful man. What the Muslims are saying is that this is a sham, he purposely deceived the Romans, his brethren, as well as us today. Hardly a tenable position to hold for a man called upright and sinless even in the Koran. Muslim Claim- They broke the legs of the other two who were crucified with him, but did not do so to Jesus, because he looked as if he was dead, so instead of going through all the trouble he pierced him with a spear, and blood gushed out showing a sign of life. Any doctor will tell you this is not sign of life. Jn.19:33-34 tells us he was thrusted by a sword after he was pronounced dead by the Roman guard who was trained in crucifixion's. If one is to be punished by this means it was unto the death, the Romans were experts at crucifixion's. It states in John 19:35"And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe." Blood and water came out from his side after. This is proven medically that he had a ruptured heart. When watery fluid from the sac surrounding the heart and blood from the interior of the heart is ruptured, fluid in the pericardium shows death, not life. Romans don’t bury live people, but dead ones. He was to them a criminal and needed to be punished by Roman law, to neglect this is disobedience to their laws and the centurion would be punished. Muslim Claim- the sign of Jonas: Matthew 12:38-30 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the Earth. It is not that he entered the whale's belly dead and came out of it alive; his sign was that he entered the whale's belly alive, remained there alive, and came out of there alive. This may be the Sunday school story but not the Bibles. Jonah was very dead and resurrected. This is the point Jesus is making. Jonah 2:2 "out of the belly of Sheol" is not the whales belly because this is after 3 days. The Hebrew word for belly is different than the belly of the fish indicating two different areas. This is the place of departed spirits the only way to get there is to die. The focus of the story is not existing 3 days alive in a fish but someone coming back from the dead. This is the very point Jesus is making, he raised others and he will raise himself. This he says will be the last sign to an unbelieving Israel the sign of Jonah. Muslim Claim -There proof from the scripture. Heb.5:7-9 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear,8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.9And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him," To a Muslim this is proof that he did not die, because he was saved from death. But it does not mean the death of the cross, because the very same book declares Heb.2:9 "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone." Notice they use the parts of the scripture to try to prove the Christian (and bible) is wrong, but ignore the whole of Scripture and the testimony of the WHOLE New Testament Jn.12:27. The fact is that he did die, so when would this have occurred? It points to the fact of Ps.22:19-22 and Isa.53:5 "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed." 6 "We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all."7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth." The lamb slain, the Passover lamb. |

kenzspunpy: I have carefully read the topic as well as the comments, and my opinion goes to Mu2sa2, Lacasa, Nagoma, Pimps, whom I believe are muslims. From your comments, I undoubtedly know the kind of teachings your religion put in your mind, I know the way you reason, and I know that joining issues with you is like flogging a dead dog, it's a mere waste of energy. However, I need answers to this simple question from you; why is terrorism identified with Islam? Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Algeria, Sudan, Mali, Somalia and even Nigeria just to mention are places where Islamist terrorists are waging war. Why don't we have Christian terrorist around the world as well? I need your answers because I believe indeed, 'Islam is a religion of peace'. As for me, I will never be caught unawares. I'm waiting for your responses pls...1.During the Yugoslav Civil War - the Christian Bosnian Serbs would raise three fingers as a national symbol based on the Trinity when they would kill Bosnian Muslims. During Srebrenica, 8000 Bosnian men and boys were systematically massacred by the Bosnian Serbs. That three fingered symbol is still a sign that causes a lot of tension. 2. You could also look at the Lord's Resistance Army in Uganda as terrorists - they're Christian fundamentalists and use child soldiers to do terrible things. 3. Then there are the various Catholic Irish Republican terrorist groups that splintered from the IRA, and the Northern Ireland 4. Protestant terrorist organisation, The Orange Volunteers 5. During the 1st century CE, the Jewish Zealots in Judaea Province rebelled, killing prominent collaborators with Roman rule 6. In mid-19th century Russia, many grew impatient with the slow pace of Tsarist reforms, and anarchists such as Mikhail Bakunin maintained that progress was impossible without violence.[34] Founded in 1878 and inspired by Bakunin and others, Narodnaya Volya used dynamite-packed bombs to kill Russian state officials, in an effort to incite state retribution and mobilize the populace against the government 7. Several nationalist groups used violence against an Ottoman Empire in apparent decline. One was the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (in Armenian Dashnaktsuthium, or "The Federation" , a revolutionary movement founded in Tiflis (Russian Transcaucasia) in 1890 by Christopher Mikaelian. Many members had been part of Narodnaya Volya or the Hunchakian Revolutionary Party.[52] The group published newsletters, smuggled arms, and hijacked buildings as it sought to bring in European intervention that would force the Ottoman Empire to surrender control of its Armenian territories.8.The first in-flight skyjacking took place in 1931, when a plane was commandeered by antiregime forces during a coup in Peru 9. 2001 also saw the first act of Bioterror with the 2001 anthrax attacks when letters carrying anthrax spores were posted to several major American media outlets and two Democratic politicians. omo alaro: Is Moses a Christian or Igbo name?MUSA means Moses in Islam, is one one of the prophets sent by God. in Arabic his name means water tree Musa (pbuh) was raised like a prince. He had the best education. The Pharaoh probably intended him to become his advisor, or his successor. Musa (pbuh) lived in lavish surroundings, but was not arrogant or vain. He treated everyone fairly. He also hid his distain for the cruel treatment of Banu Israel. One day Musa (pbuh) happened by two men who were fighting. One was an Israeli and the other was an Egyptian. He came forward trying to end the brawl. Musa (pbuh) saw that the Egyptian was not going to let up, he lifted his stick and hit him. The man staggered and fell to the ground. Musa (pbuh) and his companions stepped forward to support the man but he was limp like a rag. With that one hit, he had killed the man. Musa (pbuh) was horrified. Once in his home he began to think about the events. He was sure that this must be the work of a devil. one hit should have never taken down that man. He prayed for Divine protection and forgiveness of Allah. Allah forgave him. This news of the death had quickly reached the elite circle of leaders. They instantly agreed that Musa (pbuh) was a trader and was conspiring with the Israelites. They decided upon a public trial, having him killed for murdering an Egyptian. Musa (pbuh) was informed of the plot and escaped into the Sinai Desert. Musa (pbuh) prayed to Allah to save him from his pursuers. Musa (pbuh) was resting by a well watching the Shepard's water their herds. He noticed two young and beautiful woman waiting patiently by the water. They had been waiting a long time for the men to finish. Frustrated at the way they we're being treated Musa (pbuh) approached them and offered his service. He led the animals to water. The women were grateful for his help and explained to him that their father was old and unable to do the work. When the girls returned home and told their father of Musa (pbuh) and how he had helped them, their father was impressed by his manners. He sent one of his daughters to bring the man to his home. The old man asked Musa (pbuh) about his travels. Then after hearing the fascinating story of Musa (pbuh) and noticing his gentle behavior, He asked him to stay with them. He provided Musa (pbuh) with a home and work and then offered him marriage to one of his daughters. He lived with the family for about ten years, leading a simple and happy life. He cared for the sheep and goats. Musa (pbuh) enjoyed the simple solitude of the desert as they grazed. He also spent many enriching hours in deep conversation with his father-in-law. As the years passed, Musa (pbuh) never forgot, how his people were suffering back home, and longed to free them. By the end of those ten years Musa (pbuh) had become very home sick. He approached his wife and told her his plans. They would leave in the morning for Egypt. After briefly reassuring her fears, they left the next morning traveling through the desert until he reached Mount Sinai. At nightfall they reached Mount Tur. Musa (pbuh) noticed a fire in the distance. He told his family to stay in their tents and that he would get fire to warm them. He traveled threw the dark finding a small bush on fire. Musa (pbuh) approached cautiously. A voice suddenly called out to him. Here is the conversation narrated in the Quran [020.011] And when he reached it, he was called by name: O Moses! [020.012] Lo! I, am your Lord, So take off your shoes, you are in the holy valley of Tuwa. [020.013] And I have chosen you, so hearken unto that which is inspired. [020.014] Lo! I, am Allah, There is no God save Me. So serve Me and establish worship for My remembrance. [020.015] Lo! the Hour is surely coming. But I will to keep it hidden, that every soul may be rewarded for that which it strived to achieve. [020.016] There for, let not him turn away from the thought of it who believeth not therein but follows his own desire, lest thou perish. [020.017] And what is that in your right hand, O Moses ? [020.018] He said: This is my staff whereon I lean, and wherewith I bear down branches for my sheep, and wherein I find other uses. [020.019] He said: Cast it down, O Moses! [020.020] So he cast it down, and lo! it was a serpent, gliding. [020.021] He said: Grasp it and fear not. We shall return it to its former state. [020.022] And thrust your hand into your armpit, it will come forth white without hurt. That will be another token. [020.023] That We may show you of Our greater portents, [020.024] Go to Pharaoh! Lo! he hath transgressed the bounds. [020.025] Moses said: My Lord! relieve my mind [020.026] And ease my task for me; [020.027] And loose a knot from my tongue, [020.028] That they may understand my saying. [020.029] Appoint for me a henchman from my folk, [020.030] Aaron, my brother.[020.031] Confirm my strength with him [020.032] And let him share my task, [020.033] That we may glorify Thee much [020.034] And much remember Thee. [020.035] Lo! Thou art ever Seeing us. [020.036] He said: Thou art granted thy request, O Moses. [020.037] And indeed, another time, already We have shown thee favors, [020.038] When we inspired in thy mother that which is inspired, [020.039] Saying: Throw him into the basket, and throw it into the river, then the river shall throw it on to the bank, and there an enemy to Me and an enemy to him shall take him. And I endued thee with love from Me that you be trained according to My will, [020.040] When thy sister went and said: Shall I show you one who will nurse him ? and we restored thee to thy mother that her eyes might be refreshed and might not sorrow. And thou didst kill a man and We delivered thee from great distress, and tried thee with a heavy trial. And thou didst tarry years among the folk of Midian. Then you came by My will by My providence, O Moses, [020.041] And I have spoke to you Myself. [020.042] Go, with your brother, with My tokens, and be not faint in remembrance of Me. [020.043] Go, both of you, unto Pharaoh. Lo! he hath transgressed the bounds. [020.044] And speak unto him a gentle word, that peradventure he may heed or fear. Musa (pbuh) hurried down from the mountain and told his wife what had happened. She acknowledged that Musa (pbuh) was indeed the Prophet of Allah. He told her to go back to her fathers land, he had to get his brother. Musa (pbuh) hurried on to Egypt, and to the house of his father, and spoke to his brother alone and told him of the words of Allah. Harun (pbuh) was pleased and exhilarated to be a part of it. Musa (pbuh) and Harun (pbuh) went to Pharaoh. Musa (pbuh) told him of Allah, the One God, His teachings and His way of life. The Pharaoh's face shown his contempt for Musa (pbuh). He asked Musa (pbuh) what he wanted. Musa (pbuh) told him that he wanted the children of Israel to leave with them. The pharaoh thought that Musa (pbuh) had gone mad. He asked him what he wanted with them, that they are slaves to the Egyptians. Musa (pbuh) replied that they are only slaves to Allah. Growing increasingly angry, the Pharaoh asked Musa (pbuh) if his name is Musa? Musa (pbuh) said yes. The Pharaoh asked him if he was the Musa whom his people picked up from the Nile as a helpless baby? If he was the Musa that was raised in the palace, that he stood in now. Who he had showered wealth and charity on. The same Musa (pbuh) who is a fugitive for killing and Egyptian man. His voice grew more irritated and he asked him sarcastically what was it that they we're talking about. Musa (pbuh) ignored his sarcasm and explained what had happened with the man, and that he fled from Egypt out of fear of revenge. It had been an accident, and Allah had forgiven him and made him one of the messengers. Only Allah had the right to judge him and the Pharaoh himself was committing the worst crime. Musa (pbuh) showed the Pharaoh that by the will of Allah he could produce a blinding brilliance from his hand. The Pharaoh said it was simple magic and called for his magicians. The magicians chanted and threw sticks and ropes to the ground making the people present believe they were snakes. Musa (pbuh) threw his staff to the floor. It became a serpent, swallowing the smaller snakes. The Pharaohs magicians became alarmed, testifying that this was no magic that it was the power of Musa's (pbuh) God. The Pharaoh was outraged. He told the magicians they must be in league with Musa (pbuh) and they would be punished severally for their crime. The pharaoh decided to punish Musa (pbuh) and sent out another decree. He ordered that the male children be killed, just as he had done before. Musa (pbuh) told his people to pray for Allah to save them. The people started to complain saying that Musa (pbuh) had only brought them trouble. Musa (pbuh) told his people that Allah will test them. Some time passed and Allah sent down his punishment over the Pharaoh and his people. The people suffered many torments including filling all drinking water with a reddish substance that made it look like blood. Unseasonable floods ripped threw Egypt and destroyed homes. Great swarms of locust infected the crops. With each new plague the Pharaoh begged Musa (pbuh) to end it and that he would listen to Musa (pbuh). As soon as the plague would end he would deny Musa (pbuh). In the mean time Asiyah, Musa's (pbuh) foster mother and the pharaoh's wife, had been witnessing the meetings between Musa (pbuh) and her husband. She was convinced that Musa (pbuh) was a Prophet of Allah and that what he was saying was true. So in front of her husband she declared her beliefs. The Pharaoh was so outraged that he had her tortured. It is said that Allah sent angels to protect Asiyah from the pain. When she died she became a shaheed, or a Martyr for the sake of Allah. The Pharaoh was at a breaking point. He was going to have Harun (pbuh) and Musa (pbuh) killed. Allah sent the warning to Musa (pbuh). Musa (pbuh) instructed his people to gather all of their belonging and leave their homes before sun rise. He told them to gather outside the city. When they had all gathered they headed for the red sea. When the sun rose the next morning, the Pharaoh received reports that no work was being done in the city, because the Israelis were gone. He went mad with his rage and mounted his chariot, accompanied by his fastest men, they went after Musa (pbuh). At the red sea he caught up with them. Many of the followers of Musa (pbuh) lost faith and began to blame him for their situation. Musa (pbuh) ignored them and prayed to Allah for help, having faith in Allah supreme. He struck the water with his staff, right down the center, all the way to the other side a huge gorge opened up with towering walls made from water. Musa (pbuh) and the Israelis fled into the river heading for the other side. Outraged the Pharaoh and his people fled down the path to the sea and also into the watery valley. As soon as the last Israeli was out of the harms way the water let loose crashing upon the Pharaoh and his army. They were all drowned. Musa (pbuh) led them into the desert of Sinai. A short way into the trip the people began to blame Musa (pbuh) for their shortage of water, food and shelter. They implored him to make idols to worship. Musa (pbuh) was furious and warned them that the act was absurd. He prayed to Allah to help them find water. Musa (pbuh) left Harun (pbuh) in charge of the people while he went to the mountain. He bid them to obey Harun (pbuh), just as they had obeyed him. Musa (pbuh) then left for the heights of Mount Sinai. He returned to the location in which he had received his miracles from Allah. Taking off his shoes he knelt down on the ground. He prayed to Allah for guidance. Allah bestowed upon Musa (pbuh) the laws for his people to follow. Musa (pbuh) begged Allah to reveal himself to Musa (pbuh). Allah agreed to shed a ounce of His Divinity upon him. As soon as he spoke this, a pure white blinding light struck the mountain across from him and pulverized it. Musa (pbuh) fainted and when he recovered he begged Allah to forgive him. In Musa's (pbuh) absence Harun (pbuh) was unable to persuade them from sinning. A man named Samiri had led them astray. He had suggested that they make a idol of their own. They melted down their jewelry and plates in a fire and molded a golden calf. They began to perform their ritual dancing and acts of immorality that they had grown accustomed to. When Musa (pbuh) entered the camp and saw what they had done he was furious. He turned his furry on Harun (pbuh) and asked him what had happened. Harun (pbuh) tried to tell him, that they would not listen. Musa (pbuh) addressed his people asking why they had done this. They replied that Samiri, was the one who told them to do it. When Musa (pbuh) asked him why, he simply replied that he felt like it. Musa (pbuh) ordered him from the camp. Musa (pbuh) melted the calf into small pieces and commanded that his people throw them into the sea. [020.097] (Moses) said: Then go! and lo! in this life it is for thee to say: Touch me not! and lo! there is for thee a tryst thou canst not break. Now look upon thy god of which thou hast remained a votary. Verily we will burn it and will scatter its dust over the sea. Once the camp was back in order, Musa (pbuh) and a group of seventy men headed for Mount Tur to ask Allah his forgiveness. The mountain quaked and Musa (pbuh) begged for forgiveness. After some time Allah forgave them explaining that, His forgiveness was greater then His anger. Musa (pbuh) led his people in the direction of Palestine. Soon after his people began to complain about traveling. Musa (pbuh) divided the people into twelve tribes, so they would be more organized. The leaders of the twelve tribes addressed Musa (pbuh) about their lack of water. Allah commanded Musa (pbuh) to strike a rock with his staff. When he did, twelve springs rushed from the rock. [007.160] We divided them into twelve tribes, nations; and We inspired Moses, when his people asked him for water, saying: Smite with thy staff the rock! And there gushed forth there from twelve springs, so that each tribe knew their drinking-place. And we caused the white cloud to overshadow them and sent down for them the manna and the quails (saying): Eat of the good things wherewith we have provided you. They wronged Us not, but they were wont to wrong themselves. Allah commanded that they sacrifice a cow, they gave Musa (pbuh) a horrible time showing that they still were non believers. Musa (pbuh) led his people to Palestine. He commanded the people to attack a city of idol worshipers, whom Allah wanted to punish. The people of the land were healthy and strong, this deterred the Israelis they refused to go against the inhabitants. Nothing that Musa (pbuh) said would change their minds. Musa (pbuh) was at a loss, he prayed to Allah again for help. He returned to the people of Israel and told them they we're to return to the desert. Musa (pbuh) sad hearted led his people south, this would be where his brother passed away. Musa (pbuh) continued to lead his people enduring himself their condemned suffrage. They were not allowed to reenter the holy city for another forty years. Musa (pbuh) continued his teachings and traveling. He used the time to teach the oneness of Allah and to write the Taurah, (laws for them to follow). Musa (pbuh) tried to teach his people obedience to Allah and to treat any Prophet that would come after him with respect. At the end of the forty years, Musa (pbuh) once again led his people north, they we're camping along the banks of the river Jordan. He pointed to the land and told them that this was the land their people had rejected years before. After Musa (pbuh) death and around the year 1200BCE they returned to Palestine. Peace be upon Musa. |
Aliyu333: complete nonsense...wao he downloaded it?wen was that?.....nd which bible did he copied...revised standard v,kjv, good news bible, new world translation or wat?cos i just find out they are all diff....my question is dis-is jesus a prophet in d bible? The revelation of the Qur'an began in the laila al-qadr of Ramadan (one of the odd nights after the 21st till end Ramadan) after the Prophet Muhammad had passed the fortieth year of his life (that is around the year 610), during his seclusion in the cave of Hira' on a mountain near Makka. Bukharis Account [English translations of ahadith are, unless otherwise indicated, from Khan, Muhammad Muhsin: The Translation of the Meanings of Sahih al-Bukhari, 9 vols., Istanbul, 1978 (abbr. as Bukhari) and Siddiqui, Abdul Hamid: Sahih Muslim, 4 vols., Lahore, 1978 (abbr. as Muslim).] This is the account, as reported in the Sahih of Bukhari: Narrated Aisha the mother of the faithful believers: The commencement of the divine inspiration to Allah's apostle was in the form of good dreams which came like bright daylight (i.e. true) and then the love of seclusion was bestowed upon him. He used to go in seclusion in the Cave of Hira', where he used to worship (Allah alone) continuously for many days before his desire to see his family. He used to take with him food for the stay and then come back to (his wife) Khadija to take his food likewise again, till suddenly the truth descended upon him while he was in the Cave of Hira'. The angel came to him and asked him to read. The Prophet replied 'I do not know how to read'. The Prophet added, 'The angel caught me (forcibly) and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read and I replied, "I do not know how to read". Thereupon he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read, but again I replied, "I do not know how to read" (or what shall I read?). Thereupon he caught me for the third time and pressed me, and then released me and said: "Read, in the name of Your Lord, who created, created man from a clot. Read! And Your Lord is the most bountiful" ... [Bukhari, I, No. 3; VI, No. 478; Muslim I, No. 301.] The narration goes on to tell us that the Prophet went back to his wife Khadija and recounted to her his dreadful experience. She comforted him and both of them consulted Waraqa, Khadlja's relative and a learned Christian, about it. Waraqa told Muhammad that he had encountered the one 'whom Allah had sent to Moses' and that he would be driven out by his people How Revelation came Narrated Aisha, the mother of the faithful believers: Al-Harith bin Hisham asked Allah's apostle: 'O Allah's apostle. How is the divine inspiration revealed to you?' Allah's apostle replied, 'Sometimes it is "revealed" like the ringing of a bell, this form of inspiration is the hardest of all and then this state passes off after I have grasped what is inspired. Sometimes the Angel comes in the form of a man and talks to me and I grasp whatever he says'. [Bukhari, I, No. 2.] The First Revelation' [See Suyuti, Itqan, I, pp.23-4.] The first revelation that the Prophet Muhammad received is in the first verses from Sura al-'alaq (96:1-3, according to others 1-5): 'Read in the name of your Lord, who created, created man from a clot. Read! And your Lord is most bountiful. (He who taught) the use of the pen taught man which he knew not.' The remainder of Sura 96, which now has 19 ayat, was revealed on some later occasion. The Pause (fatra) After the first message thus received, revelation ceased for a certain period (called fatra) and then resumed: Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah Al-Ansari while talking about the period of pause in revelation reporting the speech of the Prophet, 'While I was walking, all of a sudden I heard a voice from the heaven. I looked up and saw the same angel who had visited me at the Cave of Hira' sitting on a chair between the sky and the earth. I got afraid of him and came back home and said "Wrap me (in blankets)" and then Allah revealed the following holy verses (of the Qur'an): O you covered in your cloak, arise and warn (the people against Allah's punishment) ... up to "and all pollution shun".' After this revelation came strongly and regularly. [Bukhari, I, end of No. 3.] The Second Revelation The second portion of the Qur'an revealed to the Prophet Muhammad was the beginning of Sura al-muddaththir (74: 15). It now consists of 56 verses, the rest revealed later, and begins as follows: 'O you, covered in your cloak, arise and warn, thy Lord magnify, thy raiment purify, pollution shun ...' Other Early Revelations Many hold that Sura al-muzzammil (73) was the next revelation. According to others, Sura al-fatiha (1) was the third sura to be revealed. [Suyuti, Itqan, I, p.24.] Among other early revelations, which the Prophet declared in Makka, are, according to some reports, Sura 111, Sura 81, Sura 87, Sura 92, Sura 89, etc. Then revelation continued, 'mentioning Paradise and Hell, and until mankind turned to Islam, then came revelation about halal and haram ... ' [Suyuti, Itqan, I, p.24.] Revelation came to the Prophet throughout his lifetime, both in Makka and Madina, i.e. over a period of approximately 23 years, until shortly before his death in the year 10 after Hijra (632) The Last Revelation Many Muslim scholars agree that the last revelation was Sura 2, verse 281: 'And fear the day when ye shall be brought back to God. Then shall every soul be paid what it earned and none shall be dealt with unjustly.' Some also say that it was 2:282 or 2:278. [Kamal, Ahmad 'Adil: 'ulum al-Qur'an, Cairo, 1974, p.18.] It has also been suggested that all three verses were revealed on one occasion. The Prophet died nine nights after the last revelation. Others hold that Sura 5:4 was the last to be revealed: 'This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.' The opinion that this verse was the last revelation is not sound according to many scholars, since it was revealed during the last pilgrimage of the Prophet. This information is based upon a hadith from 'Umar. Suyuti explains concerning the verse in Sura 5 that after it nothing concerning ahkam and hal'al and haram was revealed, and in this sense it is the 'completion' of religion. However, revelation reminding man of the coming day of judgement continued and the last such revelation is the above verse. [Sabuni, tibyan pp. 18-9] Reasons why the Qur'an was sent down in Stages The Qur'an was revealed in stages over a period of 23 years, and not as a complete book in one single act of revelation. There are a number of reasons for this; most important are the following: To strengthen the heart of the Prophet (saws) by addressing him continuously and whenever the need for guidance arose. Out of consideration for the Prophet since revelation was a very difficult experience for him. To gradually implement the laws of God. To make understanding, application and memorisation of the revelation easier for the believers. |
bright007: [size=30pt]This man has just been brainwashed! He must have giving in on imagining pleasure with 72 virgins![/size]he is not brain wash, Allah guides who so he will, and i pray that you too will be guided to the straight path and made u a Muslim,is Good for you to make research about Islam.72 virgins in Paradise? If you ask a random person what they know about Islam, you will get some random responses. People generally know that Muslims worship Allah, but don’t know much else. Plenty of people will venture incorrect guesses, like ‘Islam is an Arab religion” or “Islam is only about Jihad” along with the mistaken idea that the word means Holy war. One of the more popular ideas that is now spreading is that “Terrorists are promised 72 virgin women when they die.” The “72 virgins” idea is probably the most overblown idea that people seem to remember about Islam. It’s turning into a real stereotype. Forget the doctrines of monotheism and tolerance, it seems all people want to hear about is the virgins. There’s a lot more to Paradise than just sex and physical pleasure, you know. Before I go describing them in detail, I want to note that I’m taking the issue and the verses out of context. One really should read the whole Surah (chapter) to get a better understanding of the religious signifigance. Nearly a third of the Qur’an talks about the life after this one, so while there are chapters and chapters to describe the hereafter, I’m just discussing a few verses which talk about the servants; a minor perk in the grand scheme of Paradise. Personally I think the greatest reward is to be in the presence of God Almighty. Plenty of non-Muslims take one of these single verses and generalize that all of heaven is lascivious, but that simply isn’t the case. I’m just focusing on the virgins, since that’s what you came here to read. To start off, you need to understand what the rewards in Jannah (Paradise) are. The Quran says that those who do get into Paradise will be rewarded with blessings that eclipse anything on earth; unlimited food of your choice, riches, and wishes come true. Things considered sinful on Earth such as wine will be allowed, and people will be able to eat and drink all they want and not get full or hungover or sick. People will be reunited with their friends and relatives, we will all be made young again, and there will be no anger or pain. Everyone will be given palaces to live in, and clothing fit for royalty, with luxurious couches and thrones for everyone. There will be rivers of the purest water, milk, wine, and honey, all of which are better than any you will find on earth. Those who get to the highest part of Paradise, Jannah al-Firdaus, will also be able to see Allah with their own eyes. So, in a sense, Heaven is a paradise filled with pleasures. You need to imagine the context of when this idea of Paradise was revealed to the people; of the extremely stark and difficult life of ancient Bedouin Arabia. Something as simple as the constant flow of water in a stream was considered miraculous, so it would be natural to imagine heaven depicted this way, flowing with streams of water under the shade of huge trees. (Well what did you expect Paradise to be? Clouds, wings, and harps?) Also, the believers who make it into Paradise, male and female, are promised beautiful companions, known as “Houris” in Arabic. The Quran describes them in some detail as such: “Serving [the believers] will be immortal youths with jeweled and crystal cups filled with the purest wine which will neither give them headache nor hangover, with fruits and meats of their desire. They will be fair ones with lovely intense eyes like guarded pearls; A reward for the good deeds of their past life.” (56:17-24) “We have created mates for them and made them virgins, matched in age, for the companions of the right hand.” (56:35-38) “They will be chaste, restraining their eyes in modesty, never touched by man or Jinn.”(55:56) “Serving them will be immortal servants. When you see them, they will look like scattered pearls.” (76:19) The Islamic scholar Yusuf Ali defines the word “Houris” in his english interpretation of Qur’an as “Youths of perpetual freshness.” He also described them in his commentary: “The companionship of Beauty and Grace is one of the highest pleasures of life. In this bodily life it takes bodily form. In the higher life it takes a higher form…The pronoun in Arabic is in the feminine gender. It is made clear that these maidens for heavenly society will be of special creation,-of virginal purity, grace, and beauty, inspiring and inspired by love, with the question of time and age eliminated.” The Houris are basically creations of God, intelligent yet soulless and created to serve the believer who goes to Paradise. They are created for the purpose of serving the believer, and as such, they dont exactly have free will. They are described as pure, beautiful, lustrous, virgin, and more perfect than any human on earth. Imagine the woman of your dreams. Women aren’t left out: A man in paradise will get numerous female servants for himself, while a woman would get male servants. The Quran says that women shall be compensated just as well and says about the believers that “they” (the gender unspecified) shall have perfected mates/spouses as a reward of their deeds (2:25, 3:15, 4:57). So women will get the man of their dreams. Actually, even better than you could dream of. In Paradise, you can marry them. You can interpret the “mates” as being spouses. Even if you were married on earth, they will be invisible to your spouse. Islam is pretty clear in saying that guiltless sex is a reward in Paradise. Since they are more like spouses, they will probably be given the status of one instead of a servant. There is no direct evidence in the Qur’an to support there being 70 or 72 for each person. The numerical value of 70 is derived from a Quranic commentary by Quranic scholar Ibn Kathir. The number 72 comes from a hadith that says “‘The smallest reward [each] for the people of Heaven is an abode where there are 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine and ruby, as wide as the distance from [Damascus] to [Yemen].’” Do Muslims believe it literally? Are they required to? This particular Hadith has technical weaknesses in its chain of transmitters and is therefore not considered 100% authenticly faultless, though it is listed in an authoritative collection. As a result, Muslims are not required to believe in it, though many inevitably do (but an even more respectable Hadith with virtually the same message can be found in a separate hadith collection). Most muslims believe that they will experience incredible physical pleasures when they enter heaven, and that you will be happier in heaven than you could possibly be in this life. Some say that the houris are a metaphor for the ineffable joys of the afterlife. “Ineffable” is the perfect word to describe it, since Allah promises rewards beyond imagination, meaning you can’t even guess what reward lies ahead since there is no equal on Earth. Ergo, if you can imagine the greatest, richest, best thing in this life, then what will actually be there will be even better. So, to answer the question “Do terrorists get 72 virgins in Paradise?” Anyone who gets into Heaven will get the servants, it’s not specific to martyrs or the shaheeds. The more important question is, who is privileged to enter heaven according to Islam? That’s a topic for another node.(Hint: Islam is unambiguous on the issue of suicide and hurting innocent people; they’re Completely sinful) In case it’s not clear to anyone, Terrorists who hurt innocent people are sinning, so it’s up to Allah if they’ll go to Paradise or not. You see, bad deeds aren’t rewarded, only punished. |

1) None of the Bible’s Writers Believed That Jesus is God: Christians and Muslims both believe in Jesus, love him, and honor him. They are, however, divided over the question of his divinity. Fortunately, this difference can be resolved if we refer the question to both the Bible and the Quran, because, both the Bible and the Quran teach that Jesus is not God. It is clear enough to everyone that the Quran denies the divinity of Jesus, so we do not need to spend much time explaining that. On the other hand, many people misunderstand the Bible; they feel that the belief in Jesus as God is so widespread that it must have come from the Bible. This article shows quite conclusively that the Bible does not teach that. The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus is not God. In the Bible God is always someone else other than Jesus. Some will say that something Jesus said or something he did while on the earth proves that he is God. We will show that the disciples never came to the conclusion that Jesus is God. And those are people who lived and walked with Jesus and thus knew first hand what he said and did. Furthermore, we are told in the Acts of the Apostles in the Bible that the disciples were being guided by the Holy Spirit. If Jesus is God, surely they should know it. But they did not. They kept worshipping the one true God who was worshipped by Abraham, Moses, and Jesus (see Acts 3:13). All of the writers of the Bible believed that God was not Jesus. The idea that Jesus is God did not become part of Christian belief until after the Bible was written, and took many centuries to become part of the faith of Christians. Matthew, Mark, and Luke, authors of the first three Gospels, believed that Jesus was not God (see Mark 10:18 and Matthew 19:17). They believed that he was the son of God in the sense of a righteous person. Many others too, are similarly called sons of God (see Matthew 23:1-9). Paul, believed to be the author of some thirteen or fourteen letters in the Bible, also believed that Jesus is not God. For Paul, God first created Jesus, then used Jesus as the agent by which to create the rest of creation (see Colossians 1:15 and 1 Corinthians 8:6). Similar ideas are found in the letter to the Hebrews, and also in the Gospel and Letters of John composed some seventy years after Jesus. In all of these writings, however, Jesus is still a creature of God and is therefore forever subservient to God (see 1 Corinthians 15:28). Now, because Paul, John, and the author of Hebrews believed that Jesus was God’s first creature, some of what they wrote clearly show that Jesus was a pre-existent powerful being. This is often misunderstood to mean that he must have been God. But to say that Jesus was God is to go against what these very authors wrote. Although these authors had this later belief that Jesus is greater than all creatures, they also believed that he was still lesser than God. In fact, John quotes Jesus as saying: “...the Father is greater than I.” (John 14:28). And Paul declares that the head of every woman is her husband, the head of every man is Christ, and the head of Christ is God (see 1 Corinthians 11:3). Therefore, to find something in these writings and claim that these teach that Jesus is God is to misuse and misquote what those authors are saying. What they wrote must be understood in the context of their belief that Jesus is a creature of God as they have already clearly said. So we see then, that some of the later writers had a higher view of Jesus, but none of the writers of the Bible believed that Jesus is God. The Bible clearly teaches that there is only one true God, the one whom Jesus worshipped (see John 17: 3). In the rest of this article we will explore the Bible in more depth, and deal with the passages which are most often misquoted as proofs of Jesus’ divinity. We will show, with God’s help, that these do not mean what they are so often used to prove. 2) Evidence From the Acts of the Apostles: Jesus performed many miraculous wonders, and he without doubt said a lot of wonderful things about himself. Some people use what he said and did as a proof that he was God. But his original disciples who lived and walked with him, and were eyewitnesses to what he said and did, never reached this conclusion. The Acts of the Apostles in the Bible details the activity of the disciples over a period of thirty years after Jesus was lifted up to heaven. Throughout this period they never refer to Jesus as God. They continually and consistently use the title God to refer to someone else other than Jesus. Peter stood up with the eleven disciples and addressed the crowd saying: “Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.” (Acts 2:22). It was God, therefore, who did the miracles through Jesus to convince people that Jesus was backed by God. Peter did not see the miracles as proof that Jesus is God. In fact, the way Peter refers to God and to Jesus makes it clear that Jesus is not God. For he always turns the title God away from Jesus. Take the following references for example: “God has raised this Jesus...” (Acts 2:32) “God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” (Acts 2:36) In both passages, the title God is turned away from Jesus. So why he did this, if Jesus was God? For Peter, Jesus was a servant of God. Peter said: “God raised up his servant...” (Acts 3:26). The title servant refers to Jesus. This is clear from a previous passage where Peter declared: “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus.” (Acts 3:13). Peter must have known that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob never spoke of a Triune God. They always spoke of God as the only God. Here, as in Matthew 12:18, Jesus is the servant of God. Matthew tells us that Jesus was the same servant of God spoken of in Isaiah 42:1. So, according to Matthew and Peter, Jesus is not God, but God’s servant. The Old Testament repeatedly says that God is alone (e.g. Isaiah 45:5). All of the disciples of Jesus held this view. In Acts 4:24 we are told that the believers prayed to God saying: “...they raised their voices together in prayer to God. ‘Sovereign Lord,’ they said, ‘you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.’” It is clear that the one they were praying to was not Jesus, because, two verses later, they referred to Jesus as “...your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed.” (Acts 4:27). If Jesus was God, his disciples should have said this clearly. Instead, they kept preaching that Jesus was God’s Christ. We are told in Acts: “Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.” (Acts 5:42). The Greek word “Christ” is a human title. It means “Anointed.” If Jesus was God, why would the disciples continually refer to him with human titles like servant and Christ of God, and consistently use the title God for the one who raised Jesus? Did they fear men? No! They boldly preached the truth fearing neither imprisonment nor death. When they faced opposition from the authorities, Peter declared: “We must obey God rather than men! The God of our fathers raised Jesus...” (Acts 5:29-30). Were they lacking the Holy Spirit? No! They were supported by the Holy Spirit (see Acts 2:3, 4:8, and 5:32). They were simply teaching what they had learnt from Jesus — that Jesus was not God but, rather, God’s servant and Christ. The Quran confirms that Jesus was the Messiah (Christ), and that he was God’s servant (see the Holy Quran 3:45 and 19:30). 3) Jesus is Not All-Powerful, and Not All-Knowing: Christians and Muslims agree that God is all-powerful and all-knowing. The Gospels show that Jesus was not all-powerful, and not all-knowing, since he had some limitations. Mark tells us in his gospel that Jesus was unable to do any powerful work in his hometown except few things: “He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.” (Mark 6:5). Mark also tells us that when Jesus tried to heal a certain blind man, the man was not healed after the first attempt, and Jesus had to try a second time (see Mark 8:22-26). Therefore, although we hold a great love and respect for Jesus, we need to understand that he is not the all-powerful God. Mark’s Gospel also reveals that Jesus had limitations in his knowledge. In Mark 13:32, Jesus declared that he himself does not know when the last day will occur, but the Father alone knows that (see also Matthew 24:36). Therefore, Jesus could not have been the all-knowing God. Some will say that Jesus knew when the last day will occur, but he chose not to tell. But that complicates matters further. Jesus could have said that he knows but he does not wish to tell. Instead, he said that he does not know. We must believe him. Jesus does not lie at all. The Gospel of Luke also reveals that Jesus had limited knowledge. Luke says that Jesus increased in wisdom (Luke 2:52). In Hebrews too (Hebrews 5: we read that Jesus learned obedience. But God’s knowledge and wisdom is always perfect, and God does not learn new things. He knows everything always. So, if Jesus learned something new, that proves that he did not know everything before that, and thus he was not God.Another example for the limited knowledge of Jesus is the fig tree episode in the Gospels. Mark tells us as follows: “The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs.” (Mark 11:12-13). It is clear from these verses that the knowledge of Jesus was limited on two counts. First, he did not know that the tree had no fruit until he came to it. Second, he did not know that it was not the right season to expect figs on trees. Can he become God later? No! Because there is only one God, and He is God from everlasting to everlasting (see Psalms 90:2). Someone may say that Jesus was God but he took the form of a servant and therefore became limited. Well, that would mean that God changed. But God does not change. God said so according to Malachi 3:6. Jesus never was God, and never will be. In the Bible, God declares: “Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.” (Isaiah 43:10). The Bible clearly shows that Jesus was not all-powerful and all-knowing as the true God should be. 4) The Greatest Commandment in the Bible and the Quran: Some will say that this whole discussion over the divinity of Jesus is unnecessary. They say, the important thing is to accept Jesus as your personal savior. On the contrary, the Bible’s writers stressed that, in order to be saved, it is necessary to understand who exactly is God. Failure to understand this would be to violate the first and greatest of all the commandments in the Bible. This commandment was emphasized by Jesus, on whom be peace, when a teacher of the Law of Moses asked him: “‘Of all the commandments, which is the most important?’ ‘The most important one,’ answered Jesus, ‘is this: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’” (Mark 12:28-30). Notice that Jesus was quoting the first commandment from the book of Deuteronomy 6:4-5. Jesus confirmed not only that this commandment is still valid, but also that it is the most important of all the commandments. If Jesus thought that he himself is God, why did not he say so? Instead, he stressed that God is one. The man who questioned Jesus understood this, and what the man says next makes it clear that God is not Jesus, for he said to Jesus: “‘Well said, teacher,’ the man replied. ‘You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.’” (Mark 12:32). Now if Jesus was God, he would have told the man so. Instead, he let the man refer to God as someone other than Jesus, and he even saw that the man had spoken wisely: “When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, ‘You are not far from the kingdom of God.’” (Mark 12:34). If Jesus knew that God is a trinity, why did not he say so? Why did not he say that God is one in three, or three in one? Instead, he declared that God is one. True imitators of Jesus will imitate him also in this declaration of God’s oneness. They will not add the word three where Jesus never said it. Does salvation depend on this commandment? Yes, says the Bible! Jesus made this clear when another man approached Jesus to learn from him (see Mark 10:17-29). The man fell on his knees and said to Jesus: “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus replied: “Why do you call me good? No one is good — except God alone.” (Mark 10:17-18). By so saying, Jesus made a clear distinction between himself and God. Then he proceeded with the answer to the man’s question about how to get salvation. Jesus told him: “If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.” (Matthew 19:17, also see Mark 10:19). Remember that the most important of all the commandments, according to Jesus, is to know God as the only God. Jesus further emphasized this in the Gospel According to John. In John 17:1, Jesus lifted his eyes to heaven and prayed, addressing God as Father. Then in verse three, he said to God as follows: “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” (John 17:3). This proves beyond doubt that if people want to get eternal life they must know that the One, whom Jesus was praying to, is the only true God, and they must know that Jesus was sent by the true God. Some say that the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God. But Jesus said that the Father alone is the only true God. True followers of Jesus will follow him in this too. Jesus had said that his true followers are those who hold to his teachings. He said: “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.” (John 8:31). His teaching is that people must continue to keep the commandments, especially the first commandment which emphasizes that God is alone, and that God should be loved with all our hearts and all our strengths. We love Jesus, but we must not love him as God. Today many love Jesus more than they love God. This is because they see God as a vengeful person who wanted to exact a penalty from them, and they see Jesus as the savior who rescued them from the wrath of God. Yet God is our only savior. According to Isaiah 43:11, God said: “I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.” Also God said according to Isaiah 45:21-22: “Was it not I, the LORD? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me. Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.” The Quran confirms the first commandment and addresses it to all humankind (see the Holy Quran 2:163). And God declares that true believers love Him more than anyone else or anything else (Quran 2:165). 5) Paul Believed That Jesus is not God: Many people use Paul’s writings as proof that Jesus is God. But this is not fair to Paul, because Paul clearly believed that Jesus is not God. In his first letter to Timothy, Paul wrote: “I charge you, in the sight of God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, to keep these instructions...” (1 Timothy 5:21). It is clear from this that the title God applies not to Christ Jesus, but to someone else. In the following chapter, he again differentiates between God and Jesus when he says: “In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession...” (1 Timothy 6:13). Paul then went on to speak of the second appearance of Jesus: “the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time.” (1 Timothy 6:14-15). Again, the title God is deliberately turned away from Jesus. Incidentally, many people think that when Jesus is called “Lord” in the Bible that this means “God.” But in the Bible this title means master or teacher, and it can be used for addressing humans (see 1 Peter 3:6). What is more important, however, is to notice what Paul said about God in the following passage, which clearly shows that Jesus is not God: “God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever.” (1 Timothy 6:15-16). Paul said that God alone is immortal. Immortal means he does not die. Check any dictionary. Now, anyone who believes that Jesus died cannot believe that Jesus is God. Such a belief would contradict what Paul said here. Furthermore, to say that God died is a blasphemy against God. Who would run the world if God died? Paul believed that God does not die. Paul also said in that passage that God dwells in unapproachable light — that no one has seen God or can see him. Paul knew that many thousands of people had seen Jesus. Yet Paul said that no one has seen God, because Paul was sure that Jesus is not God. This is why Paul went on teaching that Jesus was not God, but that he was the Christ (see Acts 9:22 and 18:5). When he was in Athens, Paul spoke of God as “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.” (Acts 17:24). Then he identified Jesus as “the man he (i.e. God) has appointed.” (Acts 17:31). Clearly, for Paul, Jesus was not God, and he would be shocked to see his writings used for proving the opposite of what he believed. Paul even testified in court saying: “I admit that I worship the God of our fathers...” (Acts 24:14). He also said that Jesus is the servant of that God, for we read in Acts: “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus.” (Acts 3:13). For Paul, the Father alone is God. Paul said that there is “one God and Father of all...” (Ephesians 4:6). Paul said again: “...for us there is but one God, the Father . . . and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ...” (1 Corinthians 8:6). Paul’s letter to the Philippians (Philippians 2:6-11) is often quoted as a proof that Jesus is God. But the very passage shows that Jesus is not God. This passage has to agree with Isaiah 45:22-24 where God said that every knee should bow to God, and every tongue should confess that righteousness and strength are in God alone. Paul was aware of this passage, for he quoted it in Romans 14:11. Knowing this, Paul declared: “I kneel before the Father.” (Ephesians 3:14). The letter to the Hebrews (Hebrews 1:6) says that the angels of God should worship the Son. But this passage depends on Deuteronomy 32:43, in the Septuagint version of the Old Testament. This phrase cannot be found in the Old Testament used by Christians today, and the Septuagint version is no longer considered valid by Christians. However, even the Septuagint version, does not say worship the Son. It says let the Angels of God worship God. The Bible insists that God alone is to be worshipped: “When the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites, he commanded them: ‘Do not worship any other gods or bow down to them, serve them or sacrifice to them. But the LORD, who brought you up out of Egypt with mighty power and outstretched arm, is the one you must worship. To him you shall bow down and to him offer sacrifices. You must always be careful to keep the decrees and ordinances, the laws and commands he wrote for you. Do not worship other gods. Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods. Rather, worship the LORD your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.’” (2 Kings 17:35-39). Jesus, on whom be peace, believed in this, for he also stressed it in Luke 4:8. And Jesus too fell on his face and worshipped God (see Matthew 26:39). Paul knew that Jesus worshipped God (see Hebrews 5:7). Paul taught that Jesus will remain forever subservient to God (see 1 Corinthians 15:28). 6) Evidence from the Gospel of John: The Gospel of John, the fourth Gospel, was completed to its present form some seventy years after Jesus was raised up to heaven. This Gospel in its final form says one more thing about Jesus that was unknown from the previous three Gospels — that Jesus was the Word of God. John means that Jesus was God’s agent through whom God created everything else. This is often misunderstood to mean that Jesus was God Himself. But John was saying, as Paul had already said, that Jesus was God’s first creature. In the Book of Revelation in the Bible, we find that Jesus is: “the beginning of God’s creation” (Revelation 3:14, also see 1 Corinthians 8:6 and Colossians 1:15). Anyone who says that the Word of God is a person distinct from God must also admit that the Word was created, for the Word speaks in the Bible saying: “The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works...” (Proverbs 8:22). This Gospel, nevertheless, clearly teaches that Jesus is not God. If it did not continue this teaching, then it would contradict the other three Gospels and also the letters of Paul from which it is clearly established that Jesus is not God. We find here that Jesus was not co-equal with the Father, for Jesus said: “...the Father is greater than I.” (John 14:28). People forget this and they say that Jesus is equal to the Father. Whom should we believe — Jesus or the people? Muslims and Christians agree that God is self-existent. This means that He does not derive his existence from anyone. Yet John tells us that Jesus’ existence is caused by the Father. Jesus said in this Gospel: “...I live because of the Father...” (John 6:57). John tells us that Jesus cannot do anything by his own when he quotes Jesus as saying: “By myself I can do nothing...” (John 5:30). This agrees with what we learn about Jesus from other Gospels. In Mark, for example, we learn that Jesus performed miracles by a power which was not within his control. This is especially clear from an episode in which a woman is healed of her incurable bleeding. The woman came up behind him and touched his cloak, and she was immediately healed. But Jesus had no idea who touched him. Mark describes Jesus’ actions thus: “At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, ‘Who touched my clothes?’” (Mark 5:30). His disciples could not provide a satisfactory answer, so Mark tells us: “Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it.” (Mark 5:32). This shows that the power that healed the woman was not within Jesus’ control. He knew that the power had gone out of him, but he did not know where it went. Some other intelligent being had to guide that power to the woman who needed to be healed. God was that intelligent being. It is no wonder, then, that in Acts of the Apostles we read that it was God who did the miracles through Jesus (Acts 2:22). God did extraordinary miracles through others too, but that does not make the others God (see Acts 19:11). Why, then, is Jesus taken for God? Even when Jesus raised his friend Lazarus from the dead, he had to ask God to do it. Lazarus’ sister, Martha, knew this, for she said to Jesus: “I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” (John 11:22). Martha knew that Jesus was not God, and John who reported this with approval knew it also. Jesus had a God, for when he was about to ascend to heaven, he said: “I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” (John 20:17). John was sure that no one had seen God, although he knew that many people had seen Jesus (see John 1:18 and 1 John 4:12). In fact Jesus himself told the crowds, that they have never seen the Father, nor have they heard the Father’s voice (John 5:37). Notice that if Jesus was the Father, his statement here would be false. Who is the only God in John’s Gospel? The Father alone. Jesus testified this when he declared that the God of the Jews is the Father (John 8:54). Jesus too confirmed that the Father alone is the only true God (see John 17:1-3). And Jesus said to his enemies: “...you are determined to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God.” (John 8:40). According to John, therefore, Jesus was not God, and nothing John wrote should be taken as proof that he was God — unless one wishes to disagree with John. 7) God and Jesus Are Two Separate Beings: Many people use certain verses of the Bible as proof that Jesus is God. However, all of these verses, when understood in context, prove the opposite! For example, in Matthew 9:2, Jesus said to a certain man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.” Because of this, some say that Jesus must be God since only God can forgive sins. However, if you are willing to read just a few verses further, you will find that the people “...praised God, who had given such authority to men.” (Matthew 9: . This shows that the people knew, and Matthew agrees, that Jesus is not the only man to receive such authority from God.Jesus himself emphasized that he does not speak on his own authority (John 14:10) and he does nothing on his own authority, but he speaks only what the Father has taught him (John 8:28). What Jesus did here was as follows. Jesus announced to the man the knowledge Jesus received from God that God had forgiven the man. Notice that Jesus did not say, “I forgive your sins,” but rather, “your sins are forgiven,” implying, as this would to his Jewish listeners, that God had forgiven the man. Jesus, then, did not have the power to forgive sins, and in that very episode he called himself “the Son of Man” (Matthew 9:6). John 10:30 is often used as proof that Jesus is God because Jesus said, “I and the father are one.” But, if you read the next six verses, you will find Jesus explaining that his enemies were wrong to think that he was claiming to be God. What Jesus obviously means here is that he is one with the Father in purpose. Jesus also prayed that his disciples should be one just as Jesus and the Father are one. Obviously, he was not praying that all his disciples should somehow merge into one individual (see John 17:11 and 22). And when Luke reports that the disciples were all one, Luke does not mean that they became one single human being, but that they shared a common purpose although they were separate beings (see Acts 4:32). In terms of essence, Jesus and the Father are two, for Jesus said they are two witnesses (John 8:14-18). They have to be two, since one is greater than the other (see John 14:28). When Jesus prayed to be saved from the cross, he said: “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” (Luke 22:42). This shows that they had two separate wills, although Jesus submitted his will to the will of the Father. Two wills mean two separate individuals. Furthermore, Jesus is reported to have said: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46). If one of them forsook the other, then they must be two separate entities. Again, Jesus is reported to have said: “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” (Luke 23:46). If the spirit of one can be placed into the hands of another, they must be two separate beings. In all of these instances, Jesus is clearly subordinate to the Father. When Jesus knelt down and prayed he obviously was not praying to himself (see Luke 22:41). He was praying to his God. Throughout the New Testament, the Father alone is called God. In fact, the titles “Father” and “God” are used to designate one individual, not three, and never Jesus. This is also clear from the fact that Matthew substituted the title “Father” in the place of the title “God” in at least two places in his Gospel (compare Matthew 10:29 with Luke 12:6, and Matthew 12:50 with Mark 3:35). If Matthew is right in doing so, then the Father alone is God. Was Jesus the Father? No! Because Jesus said: “And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.” (Matthew 23:9). So Jesus is not the Father, since Jesus was standing on the earth when he said this. The Quran seeks to bring people back to the true faith that was taught by Jesus, and by his true disciples who continued in his teaching. That teaching emphasized a continued commitment to the first commandment that God is alone. In the Quran, God directs Muslims to call readers of the Bible back to that true faith. God have said in the Quran: Say: “O people of the Book (Christians and Jews)! Come to a word that is just between us and you: that we shall worship none but God, and that we shall associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords beside God.” (Quran, 3:64) |
