Health / Re: Doctors Strike......reps Threaten Warrant Of Arrest Against Health Minister. by Andom: 10:49pm On Jul 18, 2014
DanNafada: My little contribution as a doctor who has worked in a teaching hospital in Naija and now working in the NHS:

1. It is an absolute shame for any doctor to go on total strike, for whatever reason. There is just no justification for causing so much suffering and death in a profession that is considered to be as noble as Medicine.
2. The Chief Executive of every major health organization or hospital in most of the West is NOT a doctor. In the NHS for example, there is a Medical Director and others below him who are doctors but the head honcho is the Chief Executive, who is usually not a doctor.
3. There are Nurse Consultants in the NHS but they are mainly based in tertiary academic units and hardly involved in daily clinical care.
4. The first and only time I remember the BMA agreeing to a Doctor's strike in England, emergency and other essential services were not affected. Hardly anybody noticed there was a strike going on and most of this was because doctors voluntarily decided it would have been unethical, even if the reason for considering the strike was justified.

Nigerians have enough on their hands as it is. That a group of very educated and essential professionals cannot see why it is necessary to get back to work simply for the sake of the common man is extremely sad.

The bitter side of the truth coming from an insider I praise ur courage . God bless Nigeria!

Family / The Need To Be Always Grateful! by Andom: 4:43pm On Jul 10, 2014
Count your blessings, not your
troubles. Take time to smell the
roses. It is not uncommon to hear
that someone, because of an
accident or illness, became blind
or paralyzed but won a million
dollars in settlement.
How many of us would like to
trade places with that person? Not
many. We are so focused on
complaining about things we don’t
have that we lose sight of the
things we have. There is a lot to
be thankful for.

drinks water, swallows pebbles,
yet she complains of having no
teeth. If she had teeth, would she
eat gold?

simplynola: Pharmacy, nursing and other medical sciences are still branches in medicine and i think doctors study all these and can do the work of both pharmacist and nurses and even laboratory scientists but just that it will be too tedious for doctors combining all. The pharmacists never fought for their rights for a long period giving doctors more edge. They were laid back. 5 yrs in school just to be a dispenser or marketer or sales person. What the chemists can do. Only few are production pharmacists with drug composition experience. I think it was just once a pharmacist became the minister of health in Nigeria, it has been doctors all the way.. they never spoke out aggresively all the while, so why now. All these hatred and back stabbing in our medical line is not good for the nation. its taking our healthcare system backward. Anyways i see no reason why doctors shouldn't be the head. 7 years na wash? Oga na master!

Pls listen to yourself again. Do you really feel better now? What do you think about yourself n others around u?
Health / Re: NMA Strike Ends On Monday, Says Health Minister by Andom: 12:29pm On Jul 05, 2014
davno: In summary, when JOHESU goes on strike patients don't mind. When doctors go on strike, patients run from d hospitals. Check out our hospitals and see how empty they are right now.
Am not againt JOHESU seeking improvement but envy and greed should not be the foundation. Move forward because u want to and not because u want to be where doctors are.
Why the squabbles? Life is too small to feel bigger or better than others. Truly no position or anything is worth fighting for. Pls let's learn to look at issues without biases. Remember these things do not change our common fate-death.
Education / Re: New Lecturers Resume Work At AAUA To Replace Striking Ones by Andom: 12:49pm On Dec 08, 2013
take dat: This post does not make any sense!

This current ASUU strike isn't about 'Salary Increase'.

Our universities did not just start getting bad, I concur but should we then continue with the bad system or should we look for ways to put a stop to it? Which is why ASUU's demand for revitalization of the universities is important.

There is no association, group or organization where you will not find bad eggs mixed with the good ones. So there is no denying the fact that there are bad lecturers but the buck doesn't rest with ASUU. ASUU is only a trade union, it has no power to hire or fire lecturers. It is the university management that can hire lecturers, they can also query, discipline and fire bad lecturers. The ASUU chairman cannot punish licentous lecturers only a university management can do so, and who appoints the University heads/administrators(VC's, Pro-Chancellor and Governing Councils)? It is the 'GOVERNMENT'. The rot starts and ends with Government(either Federal or State) depending on the institution!

Nigerian lecturers cannot compete 'Academically or Intellectually' with Ghanaian lecturers? Well, it is your opinion. Do you know what it takes to be employed as a mere graduate assistant in a Federal University? It means such a person would have graduated with a First Class and minimum of a 2.1. Do you know what it takes to bag a First Class in a Federal University? Lots of hardwork, perseverance and exceptional brilliance. These Nigerian lecturers you claim are not competitive or up to date Academically/intellectually, are the same ones many of our political leaders who starve our universities of adequate funds but loot our treasury to establish private universities where students pay good money 'hire'. And many of them who leave the shores of Nigeria gets hired by foreign universities. Are those foreign and private universities hiring lecturers who are not intellectually sound? Why are we always quick to condemn these academics, yet many of those who condemn the lecturers are themselves not intellectually sound?

If the Government fulfills its promise of annually funding the universities for 4 years to the tune of N1.2trillion, and the universities management make judicious use of what they are provided and build more hostels, lecture theaters/halls, equip the labs and improve on the infrastructural deficits, it is then you will see the 'Gains of this strike'. If ASUU did not embark on strike action, the Government wasn't prepared to inject more funds into our university system because almost all the top officials don't have children in public universities.
what a superior and scholarly reasoning!

Magic Bishop:

alas, a bokoville arrives.

Before your stone worshiping pilgrimage began, Christians have been going on pilgrimage to the holy land.

You are not used to the idea afterall, this is the first christian president to embark on such a trip.

Why is it an issue for you intolerant stone worshipers?
For how long are we going to keep justifying unnecessary medical, educational, spiritual and other TOURISMS outside this country where majority of the people barely eat 3 decent meals per day. What is HOLY about it? I think it is high time we stop this economic wastes and religion of externalism. Even the president himself said that "the real essence is lost".

crackhaus: Countries fighting over nuclear bombs and chemical weapons, United States government shut down because it's broke, Union strikes everywhere in Nigeria, North Korea is still called a country.... And now, the corpse of an ex-governor doesn't want to be laid to rest until it carries along other people to have a party with in hell (which it has succeeded in doing).....

Please tell me people, are these not the Signs of The End Time Are they not
U may have interpreted it well but we must not allow our hearts to grow faint or become weary. God is still within and among us.
