akin3102: Ojap and GboyegaD,God bless you boss..Let me make my case open here. There is nothing to hide at the moment..I really need serious advice before I miss out.I was initially working before I got these admissions and GA offer.I chose to study at the moment becos my PO renewal isn't feasible as it is.School resumption date and PO renewal time coincide, so i decided to study in order not to miss the GA offer.I am thinking of going to Canada because I heard is easy to save in Canada as a student than US.I am going to US with all my fortune and I dnt want to fall out of status.. That is one of the reasons I am thinking of crossing to a country I can use my skills to work and also study. I am really scared with all this analysis from Bigfrancis..though I have savings to survive for time being but i wish to put my skills to work.Canada school resumes in jan. o you are even lucky to have a GA,check the terms of the GA,if its Gpa based, that means u will have to maintain a certain gpa to retain it,should it also be full tuition waiver,u are good to go,I was also in ur shoes, just know that every great achievement started with a quantum leap.. |

igbonerd: Thanks, big boss. The reason I want to put up with a friend for a day is still to save cost. The cheapest connecting flight from New York to Tennessee would be a day after I land in JFK; I wouldn't want to spend that in an airport, when I have a place to go. Thanks for the insight on ticket reservation. I will do just that. Will it be it issue at the POE in JFK that I wouldn't be leaving the same day for Tennessee. I appreciate you response, man! . Thanks, Capt. Stewee! If the price difference isn't significant, I think I'd go with Qatar based on the positive reviews I've been seeing on here about these Arab airlines. Bless you, brother. There is no probs of any sort at the POE jst know what's on ur I-20 and what ur here for,coz u will have a brief interview once again except something changes..the only tin I see that might play to ur advantage while transiting at ur friend's place in NY is if he can come and pick u at the airport,or else, those Pakistani taxi drivers will bill u as a first timer which will be evident the way u move around..in all jst be careful..No be only naija wise..lol |

igbonerd: Turns out getting a visa is just the start of an exhausting travel process. I am trying to reserve a flight on Royal Air Maroc, but I can't see the option of doing that. They are prompting me to make my payment online immediately. Also, they apparently have a 17 hour layover at Casablanca. Interesting. Will I need a transit visa for that? I don't want to be blindsided by any unforseen travel policy. My school is in Tennessee, but I want to come in through JFK, New York. Plan is to put up with a friend in New York for a day, then set out out for Tennessee. Will the POE officer in JFK frown at that? Will s/he demand to see evidence of a connecting transport - flight or Greyhound ticket - to Tennessee?
Please, I'd be grateful if someone can throw some perspective on this for me? Thanks, guys. this is it,jettison the idea of seeing a friend in NY except its most pressing and u ve the funds to fly from NY to TN,coz using greyhound should be more than 18hrsbon the road, coz greyhound from MD to NC is about 15hrs and TN is still after NC..so the choice is urs to make..also know that the only way u can make ticket reservation is to call the cc of the airline to make reservation for u which might not really be for the particular price of ticket u saw while surfing..so if u have ur card ready and the funds jst go ahead and pay online..peace. |

coobboy: Yes o, but its going to be too fake if i try to speak like them, so ill just let it flow as time goes on, it'll change, Also u should have collected an international drivers license for 5k or 7500 in nigeria, so that would make it easy for you to drive here, because if you wanna collect their licence here, you will have to start from scratch and it would be way too expensive to go for Driving lessons. But if you have your nigerian drivers licence i think u can use it to drive too somehow.. dont loose your identity,I speak with my naija accent, they all like and understand me..they love Nigerians for our hustling spirit.. |

Good day Everyone on this thread,i have been an ardent follower of this thread for the past 3years after graduation but i prefer to read comments and digest carefully at any that concerns my very profile.
However,i went for my Interview 6:30am at Lagos today,it was kinda very tedious because for some awkward reasons i have been battling with Insomnia a week after i booked my appointment.
HOW I PREPARED: After many transcripts and experiences on here,i started preparing, for one week i fasted 12am to 6pm (1 week) and i was always reading the following Bible passages: Isaiah 61:7,Esther2:5-8,Proverbs3:2-4,Proverbs 16:1,Isiah 41vs10.Psalm 40 and Psalm 24,among other verses. They really helped me a great deal,as i was praying all about favor and challenged God to open his store house of blessings on me,not forgetting alms giving and helping the needy as well.
Fast forward to today's INTERVIEW: I got up 2am,read my bible, prayed, told my people at home that i was to open my office this morning so i had to leave home by 4;30am,got to the Embassy by 5am,because i stay at Lekki Phase one. When i got to the Embassy,i met lots of people on queue,I just kept my calm and was watching, they didn't usher us into the Embassy until about 6;30am,we did all the security checks and i saw lots of people falling prey to those street urchins by the embassy, giving them their ds-160 to staple their passport photograph to,when we got into the Embassy they were asked to remove the stapled Passport..1K GONE DOWN THE DRAIN,they approached me but i declined.
We got into the Embassy, they sorted our documents,I-20,ds-160,passports,sevis fee receipt and MRV Fees receipt. We were ushered into the next phase where our finger prints were taken and they scanned my passport photograph and gave me back after writing some Numbers on it,i wouldn't know what they numbers meant bcoz it was my first experience, but i have been to 5 different countries.
After going through that Phase,it was the time of Interview,we were all seated,a man came to address us that we need to exercise patience as the Visa Officers aren't around yet, they will start arriving by 7:30am,so i was all chilled, said a little prayer, met a girl by side,we jisted a bit,but she wasn't my kinda girl, she is going to Pennsylvania university or so..so we queued immediately the VOs arrived and they started the interview,i was just telling God,all i need is confidence, because i hate cramming,i told God that he promised not to forsake me,this is the time i need him most,i heard lots of interviews but i didn't pay too much attention so as not to be distracted, because some responses were very very disappointing, and i didn't want to be reacting to look like one "ITK',IT go to my turn and it was one beautiful white lady and the following conversation ensued.
Me: Good Morning
Vo: With a lovely smile, pass me your documents.
Me: I gave her my I-20,MRV Receipt,Sevis Fee receipt and Passport
Vo:Put your fingers on the Biometric machine and i did.
VO: How did you get to know about this school North Carolina A&T State University
Me: I used Internet tools such as Google.com to search for schools that matched my profile, used usnews.com to check the ranking, also used 4icu.org,studentreview.com and gradcafe.com
Vo:Nods,that's very good.
Vo: Do you have a Bachelor degree?
Me:Yes,i have a Bsc in Computer and Information Science 2012 from Lead city University,Ibadan,Oyo State.
Vo:Why NCAT?
Me: of all the schools i applied to,NCAT has a well structured curriculum that is practical-oriented,it is one of the few schools, which all students regardless of their major belongs to a supportive intellectual and social community that builds foundation for success. NCAT has a faculty to student ratio of 16:1.It is one of the school with the highest African-American graduates.
Vo:Nods, what do you know about North Carolina?
Me:North Carolina is a state in southern USA,bordered to the South by South Carolina and Georgia,Tennessee to the west,Virginia to the North and Atlantic Ocean to the East.It is the 9th Most populous state in USA.
Vo: What will this degree do for you?
Me: This degree will equip me with the technical know-how which is needed to excel in my field, which i will in turn use for the industrial development of my country. It will also help turn around the fortune of my company which will also equate Higher Salary.
Vo:Nodss..Why USA?
Me:I have the option of going for the best.USA is the center of excellence in I.T,most of the big players are located in USA,Linux,Dell,IBM,Microsoft, ect.USA is a placewhere some of the best students around the globe converges.
Vo: How will you Pay this tuition fees?
Me:My Uncle will pay,he has been in charge of my schooling since my high school days to university and Now.
Vo:What does he do?do you have his Bank's Statement?
Me:I almost stutter here, but i picked up and told her to give me little time to get the Statement from my Folder, she said, take your time,I brought it out and gave her, while perusing,i told her that my uncle is a Real Estate Consultant,he develops, buys and sells Properties,He also Imports Building materials.
Vo:Nods,I am going to approve your visa, keep your I-20,you will need it,gave me a letter,we are having problem with our visa processing, but we will send you a text message when your visa is ready to pick it up at V/I.
Me:Thanks, with a very cool smile and walked out.
I met 2 other guys that were also approved, one was applying for the third time,he said he is giving it the last try his next move was to try Canada, the other was just all smiles. Met 2 other guys, they were denied,*team community college,i told them i will hook them up with NL.
SHOUT OUT: My esteem gratitude goes to BigFrancis,my friend and brother,he has been part and parcel of my application,we do reason together in some cases, the guy has been there for me all through,May God bless him so much for me,well he is even the first person am visiting in USA. My shout out goes to Zeezabee don't know if i got her moniker right, she was always willing to lend a helping hand,i recalled the day BigFrancis was busy,i sent her an email to help me pay for my Sevis fees, she responded almost instantly,my sincere gratitude to Imperioux and Slimmy, also MsNas and other members of the thread.
With Unity we can achieve a lot, let's learn to be tolerant with one another, for you to excel in life you must be a good Manager of persons, don't expect others to be as matured and subtle as u are,God created them that way,Notwithstanding, let's always eschew tolerance especially with each other when some statements on here might not be so pleasant,Na u know wetin u de look for,so stoop to conquer..
I want to also thank God,he has always been there for me when the chips are down,i put the Lord to the test and he didn't fail me,despite all my failings,His Grace never departed...I Honor you Lord,May your Name be praised.
If you will like to reach me at anytime for help,i will always be here to give back to the thread,i have all my social sites id on my profile..
Sorry for the Epistle, but i hope i have really spur someone today with my elaborate write up.Cheers mates..
God Bless. |
