Clevite: According to Clement Nwankwo,"Situation Room is disappointed with the conduct of the two governorship elections that held in Kogi and Bayelsa states. The elections fall below the standard expected of a free, fair and credible election. “In Kogi State, the levels of violence perpetrated by the two major political parties seriously undermined the elections, deterred voters and made the exercise a farce."
In every election, as it has always been before, the two major parties, APC and PDP, employ all manner of tactics to rig and undermine the outcome of the election to their favour. They deploy thugs, induce voters with money, compromise INEC officials and security personnel in the areas they can influence. They even arrange and pay to have some of the election observers to their side.
The party that ends up losing eventually becomes the loudest crier. Unfortunately, this is what has come to play in these elections, especially the Kogi election.
regirich: Wetin concern me? I lost interest in Nigeria election a long time ago because election does not exist in this shit hole, as it stands now my only interest now is the price of rice in the market, please can someone tell me how much a bag of foreign rice cost now in the market?
Is the price of rice not affected by who is in government, which is determined through elections after the struggles for independence and democracy by our heroes past
encryptjay: I believe it's only Al Jazeera news that could have covered the violence in Kogi state elections. I was a Buhari fan but when I saw the level of corruption, the way he reinforced people like Ganduje and Yahaya Bello, the indifference he showed towards important issues etc I just comot my hands from Nigerian politics.
But you somehow expect it to get better and impact governance and your way of life dramatically because some random other person will continue to put their hands inside for your singular benefit? You are a wise, sharp, smart and brilliant man. Oya clap for yasef!
favour32: Many know nothing or they know and feel it's okay. Votes don't count in Nigeria. Except u have not witnessed this rigging stuff in a polling unit.
Fallacy of hasty generalisation by lazy youths who don't want to work to mobilise their fellows through sensitisation and civic empowerment every day, in (electoral) season and out of (electoral) season. Person wey invest N1 and little time inside a venture cannot expect to get the same dividends/rewards as person wey invest N1 million and several hours daily.
dalongjnr: 4 billion naira with obinakoro on a private jet. Just to uproot Fayemi. That money was enough to pay a months salary or improve facility at the federal university but was rolled out for campaign.
What would N10 billion that barawo bubu released to Yeye Bello have paid for? Salary arrears? Owed pensions? More teachers, nurses, doctors, road engineers?
dalongjnr: A benefactor of such system is now warning against that? You ate(chop) clean mouth n you don't want others to benefit from what u benefited? You guys set the wrong precedence. Now,karma is just about to screw you.
Thinking that we have forgotten the drama that brought him into power abi No be all of us dey inside the 200 million mumu headcount.
Evince: it kept prospering and u know that statement is lies. We need to fortify security and not that god god story that doesn't work. He is lucky to regain freedom and u re here quoting the stupid story book.
mopol123: even rice has move to 25k a bag courtesy of next level. garri has move to next level. lets all hail the king of next level (poverty or hardship)
What can we do except pray for God to intervene in the hearts of men?
chucsmoore: bro is not by starting early O! Its when Energy meets God, Grace abound!
So the energy must come first, so that God meets it with His blessings? Why don't our gods of men emphasise this order? Not good for their scamming pastor-preneur business?
GhostWisperer: while Hausa/aboki are predominantly social and educational illiterates and are more dangerous in situations like this, it happens in every registration.
In Enugu while I was parked by the road with my door slightly opened for me to retrieve my phone from the car, a commuter Mitsubishi bus which left its sliding middle door opened, there by increasing the size of its width smashed my door and completely ruined my car.
Worse thing was that, it was its opened door that made contact with my car. The man came out and spoke Igbo while I was talking in English.
And that was the trick. Even one smelly, obsessed ugly woman cutting vegetables inside her shop which never saw the accident said it was my fault. While I was parked and not moving but the bus with a grotesque isuitc driver was moving with its door opened and it was the door that hooked my car.
Nigeria is a cursed place.
You mean that every Nigerian has cursed himself/herself into lawlessness and incivility?
Igboblog: 2019 : I Weep For Abians By Wisdom Nwedene (Must Read)
Written by Wisdom Nwedene
Yesterday, pictures of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu branded Tanker distributing free kerosene to people at Umunkpeyi and other locations circulated the social media space.
Many people were seen struggling to get the free kerosene from the tanker.
I was shocked and wept bitterly when I saw the pictures because this is no longer the Abia State I know before.
From Ikpeazu's moves by sharing free kerosene and money to Abians few days to Governorship election, it is crystal clear that he is aware that he has failed the people who entrusted him with power.
I also heard that Ikpeazu said that the dark days are over for the civil servants in Abia State and donated 10 million naira to them.
My question to the civil servants is, will Ikpeazu 10 million naira solve the pains and problems you have been through in the last three and half years?
Let me quickly recall that in the last three and half years, almost all the civil servants in every sector protested over non payments of their salaries.
Let me do flashback, in 2018, the staff of Abia State owned University teaching hospital, Aba protested and cursed Ikpeazu over non-payment of their 9months salary.
The demonstration was staged Inside the premises of the hospital.
Also, in terms of infrastructure, Ikpeazu has not done well.
Let me also draw your mind to the Osisoma Flyover being constructed by Ikpeazu for over three years now.
Despite his promise that the flyover will be completed in January 2019, the truth is that the project has been abandoned.
When it comes to good road, hospital, empowering the farmers, Ikpeazu has not delivered also.
I don't know any reason a true Abia State born should want Ikpeazu to return to the Government House when he has failed to deliver half of the promises he made in 2015.
If you come to Ebonyi State, you will see what Umahi did in terms of infrastructure . He built many flyovers, good roads and empowered farmers. That's what I expected Ikpeazu to do.
Let me make it clear that I'm not from Abia State and didn't receive a dime to pen down this article but as a journalist, I know it is imperative to speak against evils, injustice, hunger, etc when I see them.
Ayoolamax: We are not foolish, okay , please are you from the state , or you live in the state presently to know the actual fact that transpire before we concluded on matter like this , I want you to understand that the real voters are those villages people and those market with party faithful, so if we want a better country ,we all need to leave the social media and all goto our state to partake inanh election that want to come up instead of just lamenting day by day only on social media, pls this won't help . God bless Nigeria and God bless us.
It goes beyond what you have just said. As I said already, we need to identify and sponsor candidates with our own money instead of waiting for them to give us democracy dividends upfront as stomach infrastructure. In addition we need to use our time and talent to sensitize those real voters about elections. And we have to start doing sop now and continue forever. Continue forever.
deantimes: Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s President, has reportedly said his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) won last year’s governorship election in Osun with the help of remote control.
Mr President is quoted as making the above statement on Saturday when he visited traditional rulers in the state seeking their endorsement for his re-election.
The governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in September was won by the APC although the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took early lead.
A rerun election which was later conducted in the areas believed to be the stronghold of Senator Iyiola Omisore, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) saw the ruling party leading the opposition party.
Mr Omisore, POLITICS TIMES recalls, had entered into alliance with the APC to deliver his stronghold to the party. This was after he met a delegation of the PDP seeking similar help from him.
“I know how much trouble we had in the last election here,” Buhari was quoted by TheGuardian as saying while addressing the traditional rulers at the banquet hall of Osun State Government House.
“I know by remote control through so many sources how we managed to maintain the party (APC) in power in this state,” he added.
The president at the meeting did not elucidate clearly what he meant by remote control.
haywhy1026: Good development....I hope other regions can do the same especially to honor Awolowo who was the brain behind the fight for the existence of Nigeria
Yes for Awolowo in the south west but was he the brain behind the existence of Nigeria? I thought that was Lugard.
EasyPeazy: How many do we even have now? Everyday public holiday here and there. Very unproductive nation we are
States will have to agree what federal holidays to respect while they add theirs so we have a limit of 10-15 days total and civil service leave days are adjusted in consequence.
AllenSpencer: Any election Wike is not bank rolling is a loss for PDP Kogi and Bayelsa you can see Rivers State allocation and revenue is the only thing left for PDP after Atiku ran away
Our shuffering and shmiling will continue ad infinitum if we don't put up our money plus time and expect political leaders looters to bankroll campaigns and elections. Why are we so fooliish?
ayodaisi: Fine make we go sit down 4 house be that
Lazy attitude? Why sit down for house when you should be doing activities to remember what he stood for as a way to rekindle your future and make it better than what he aspired for and achieved during his lifetime?
johnkey: mumu thread, it's a fvcking faceless forum, most are broke in real life and only money commands respect.
Take your bitterness elsewhere please and drag your obsession with money only along with you. If you are a broke pauper enduring barawo bubu's extreme poverty economy, just keep your wailing to yourself. Only money commands respect indeed. That is why the whites will continue to trump and lead us mental'ly lazy blacks.
seangy4konji: buhari is one of the biggest scam in Nigerian history. Once he leaves you will be amazed of how much he and his Fulani cow cabals have looted. I hope Nigerian does not go into famine and civil war...he has ruin Nigeria with borrowing and no food..he basically provided no jobs for youth..the same way they have turned all the hausa mennto almanjiri and turned the efcc he started to stray dogs to cl down on any fine youth in the west and south using a nice car or wearing good cloth. He wants every body to be under his mercy and suffer. Not a single political looter is in prison..but efcc gets joy by displaying small boy who survive by getting small 200$ gift card..is that the problem of Nigeriaohh I wish you know the suffering going on individually in Nigeria now.
Do you think that he is planning to leave or to die in office
agbangam: What if d table turns and God almighty makes Mr Sowore the president of this country, hope those supporting PMB will be happy if Sowore decides to oppress him, his family and friends?? Why not release him for Christ sake. Buhari disappoint people like me sha, i never thought Nigeria would be this crazy under his watch. Pathetic.
