Minjim: Do you know what roads do to the wild? It opens it to various opportunity. Once a place is accessible, people will want to live their , it pull businesses and gradually it becomes a busy area.
Watch how villages the road passes thru will become exposed.
Why should this stop the government from employing workers to make services and utilities available for all?
lionshare: Are you equating a flyover with an entirely new road? In the very same sentence, he stated: “build roads and artery networks to really enhance the quality of life and the accessibility of the security agencies to penetrate those areas.” I believe that if the Federal Government attempted to close the Coastal Road today, it would trigger massive protests in Lagos.
Building roads rather than employing workers to make basic services and utilities available to people is how Tinubu steals trillions of Lagos budget annually since 1999, such that ordinary water is unavailable to houses and children don't have access to free education in public schools with adequate number of well paid professional teachers, as it was during the four years of progressive UPN governor Jakande.
It's quite ironic that military dictator Buhari jailed Jakande for corruption in 1984 but handed over to Tinubu in 2023.
Abi how much was Lagos budget from 1979 to 1983, compared with the last 27 years even after adjusting for population and inflation
Splashme: The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.
Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.
The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.
Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”
The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.
Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.
He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

WHO SAYS 4 YEARS IN OFFICE IS NOT ENOUGH FOR MEANINGFUL ACHIEVEMENTS?
IT'S A FACT THAT 90% OF GOVERNORS IN NIGERIA SINCE 1999 WITH REVENUES AT THEIR DISPOSAL CANNOT BOAST OF A QUARTER OF THESE ACHIEVEMENTS EVEN WITHIN THEIR EIGHT YEARS IN OFFICE.

What kind of tragicomedy are you trying to make here
HenryThegreat1: Aliko Dangote, the president of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has strongly refuted allegations by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency (NMDPRA), insisting its diesel is 80percent superior to those currently imported into Nigeria.
The richest man in Africa said this Saturday while showing members of the House of Reps the company’s facilities.
“Until late last year, diesel imports into Nigeria were up to 7,000 parts per million (ppm) of Sulphur which has been going on for many years. Our diesel is produced currently at significantly lower levels of Sulphur; as such, we find baseless the allegation that the reason for the reduction is linked to quality. What we are producing is 80 percent of what is being imported into the country,” Anthony Chiejine, the company’s spokesperson Dangote Industries Limited said.

“Another inaccurate assertion is that Medium Level Sulphur diesel is meant for off-road use. This is a completely false statement as this would have invariably meant that all the imports for the last 20 years have been damaging equipment.
“Thirdly, diesel imports for the high Sulphur grade have been at significantly higher prices until we started operation. If indeed high Sulphur diesel is sold at lower prices how come we never saw the lower prices until now?” the spokesperson said.

Dangote proved through a laboratory test before members of the House of Reps, led by Tajudeen Abbas how the sulphur content of its diesel is within acceptable range in Africa and better than some of diesel currently available in the country.
Dangote diesel currently contains 87.6 ppm
For instance, Dangote’s laboratory officials tested diesel products from two major retail outlets in Nigeria – TotalEnergies and Matrix – against the sample produced by Dangote Refinery.
The test was carried out using a ED-XRF Spectro Photometer, using the ASTM D4294 method.
The sample from TotalEnergies’s diesel showed 1,829ppm sulphur concentration. The sample from Matrix retail showed 2,2752.8682ppm sulphur concentration while the diesel sample from Dangote Refinery showed 87.6ppm sulphur concentration.
Targets 10ppm sulphur content August
“By the end of next week, we should be on 50ppm and by August, it should be down to 10ppm,” Dangote said.
BusinessDay’s findings showed the minimum global standard is 50ppm, while 200ppm is still acceptable in Africa till the end of the year.
On Thursday, July 18, Farouk Ahmed, chief executive officer of NMDPRA alleged Dangote refinery as well as some major refineries like Waltersmith refinery, produce between 650 to 1200 ppm.

Nigeria’s ‘Biggest Economic Threat’ Is Unemployment, But Data to Guide Policy Missing for 14 Months
Nigeria’s top economic risk for the 2026 economic year is unemployment but the country has not published any official labour statistics to measure its rate since November 2024, FIJ has found.
On Wednesday, the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report identified lack of economic opportunity and unemployment as Nigeria’s leading threat for the 2026 economic year.
The report also identified inadequate public services, economic downturn, inequality, and crime as the next four threats to economic stability in 2026.
Unemployment is serious enough for international observers but the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has not released Nigeria’s Labour Force statistics, however controversial, since the second quarter of 2024.
SILENCE SINCE METHODOLOGY REDESIGN The NBS has been in the crossfire before for publishing Labour Force Data late in 2023 and 2024. In 2024, the bureau attributed the delay to an overhaul of its survey methodology.
At the time, NBS said it wanted to align Nigeria’s labour statistics with international best practices and ensure data quality and sustainability.
But the resulting data caused chaos. According to the NFLS published at that time (q1, 2024), only about 4.3% of Nigerians were unemployed. The data introduced new types of labour categorisation in the report.
Per the new method, anyone who works even minimal hours in a week is considered “employed”. The reliability of official figures was questioned by labour unions, business groups and even economists.
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), for instance, described the reported employment statistics as unrealistic. Chris Onyeka, the NLC’s National Assistant General Secretary, called the report a “voodoo document” and a “fabrication designed to mislead the public”.
Similarly, Gabriel Idahosa, President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), said, “The technical improvement in the employment rate is more of a way that employment is now calculated; but the reality is that the economy is not looking like an economy where unemployment is significantly reducing.”
Since then, the NBS has not made any attempt to publish labour data.

It’s only someone whose eyes have been touched that will write the above, after reading the OP.

What has APC achieved since 2015, among the different things they promised
allanphash7: Your lamentations continues untill 2031
What you and I know for sure is that your package fraud can never ever be the President of our Great Nation
Shalom
Please what has this governance issue of employing adequate numbers of well paid professionals to prevent building collapse, got to do with 2031 and your package fraud being President of Nigeria?
Baawaa: Those living in that house will know that the building is weak and it can collapse anytime but risking their lives
Is this how children risk their lives in school buildings that are dilapidated because governors like Dapo are not satisfied with stealing the regular budget of the state, they are so desperate and greedy they also steal from the Obasanjo/ Atiku established UBEC that provides matching federal funds to help states achieve nine years of free and compulsory education for all children.
Do you think that the governors are the worst demons in Nigeria after the president
PREMIUM TIMES visited schools that the state government claimed to have rehabilitated and found decrepit and inadequate facilities.
Governor Dapo Abiodun said last year that over 400 primary and secondary schools have been renovated in Ogun State under his administration.
However, when PREMIUM TIMES late in 2022 toured the three senatorial districts of the state, our reporter found facilities in many public schools still in deplorable conditions.
The renovation project was executed with a N10.2 billion fund jointly contributed, equally, by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the state government.
UBEC released its share of the fund to the state government in 2019 to address infrastructural decay and inadequate facilities in 236 public schools across the state.
Eriokanmi: As if sanwoolu and his crew care about us. Ordinary garbage, they cant pack. I pray no outbreak of cholera in lagos. They'd not be able to contain it due to our dilapidated health facilities.
Since when did prayer ALONE achieve anything? Definitely not since James, the brother of Jesus Christ said that:
RichDad1: Any which way, y'all will always find a way to insert Lagos into every conversation as if that's the only state in the country.
Lagos generates the highest revenue from tax burdens on people who are there to work in businesses that are established in Lagos to benefit from decades of federal government spending on infrastructure like seaports and airports, roads and bridges etc.
500 gallons of water go for N20k. Multiply by 4 in a month, that's N80k. By extrapolation, that's N960k in a year on water alone. Why? Because the governor believes that clean and accessible water is the least of his worries. Yet they prance around like Enugu is Abuja even though the red muddy soil will have residents looking like they went tomb-raiding at night.
But then, considering where it was before Peter Mba, one can understand the accolades being that he moved the town from 16th Century to 17th Century but not anywhere near 20th Century. 21st Century is a stretch. EEDC? The worst of all.
The Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources in Lagos State, Mahmood Adegbite, has said that people drilling borehole in the Lekki axis of the state is probably drinking ‘’shit water.”
While speaking at a stakeholders meeting in the state recently, Adegbite noted that contaminated boreholes in Lekki pose health risk and added that treatment of waste water would eradicate any form of disease that may arise from it.
He said, “On waste water treatment, I will say that everyone digging borehole within the Lekki axis is probably drinking what I will call ‘shit water.’
Michaelmercy: This is the issue of the government, always reactive instead of proactive. If the building control agency was very active, they could have spotted the structural defect early before this disaster. Do they even have the database of all building structures in ogun state? Torh
How can the building control agency be active without enough well paid staff?
Do you even know how many civil servants were employed by this governor in his tenure?
Do we care about this information or are we just excited about roads and bridges as evidence of good governance?
MosakuAW: A lot of old buildings in Lagos and it environs need to be checked for structural damages.
Things have been getting out of hands in this country lately.
By lately, do you mean the 11 years of All Promises Cancelled, APC balablu bulaba propaganda lies to cover their cluelessness that has made Nigeria worse in extreme poverty and insecurity shege?
Can you imagine that the pretentious bunch of IntegriThief are even worse in corruption than PDP politicians who they demonised in order for Tinubu to beg Buhari out of retirement to make Jonathan a one term president?
CharlesCNG: Every economy undergoing major structural reforms experiences pain before the gains become widespread. That is why serious analysis and development economists looks beyond emotion and asks: Is the economy stabilising? Is it moving in the right direction?
Yes, many Nigerians are still hurting. Nobody denies that.
But to claim that "nothing is moving" is simply a doomsday narrative detached from reality.
Roads are being built. Refineries are coming back. States are receiving record FAAC allocations. Foreign reserves have strengthened. Private investment is returning. Inflation remains a challenge, but the economy is no longer being propped up by unsustainable fuel subsidies and artificial exchange rates.
Saying "everything is on standstill" is like standing in the emergency ward and declaring the patient dead because he has not been discharged.
Nigeria's economy is not where we want it to be, but neither is it where it was in May 2023.
The real question for the opposition is no longer "Things are hard." Nigerians already know that.
The question is: What exactly would you do differently tomorrow morning, and how would you fund it without returning Nigeria to the very policies that created today's problems?
Until that question is answered, the doomsday sermons may generate applause—but they do not generate solutions.
The opposition did something different from 1999 to 2015, and grew the economy to the biggest in Africa while Tinubu and his APC propagandist olodos were playing politics of destruction with the privatisation and deregulation policies that made the difference.
Omooba77: A former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on Tuesday, said the protest that trailed the fuel subsidy removal during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012 was due to political interests.
Fayemi said this in his keynote address delivered at a national dialogue organised to celebrate the 60th birthday celebration of the founding National Secretary of Alliance for Democracy and Fellow, Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Professor Udenta Udenta in Abuja.
The programme was attended by Jonathan, former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili; former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, among others.
The PUNCH reports that on January 1, 2012, President Goodluck announced the removal of fuel subsidy and adjusted the pump price of petrol from N65 per litre to N141.
The decision sparked mass protests, tagged ‘Occupy Nigeria’ across major cities of the country.
The price was later re-adjusted to N97, after more than a week of protests.
Petrol price was later reduced to N87 in 2015.
Jonathan faced serious backlash for the fuel price adjustment, especially from leaders of the All Progressives Congress, who were then in different opposition parties, including the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, Congress for Progressives Congress, All Nigeria Peoples Party, and All Progressive Grand Alliance.
anonimi: Petrol should never cost more than N70 per litre, says APC
January 19, 2015
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70.
On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price.
But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”.
It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel.
ElSudani: The economy was rebased, not that Nigeria produced a pair of shoes more than the previous day before the economy was rebased.
Tinubu also rebased the economy but still has failed to deliver GDP growth to return us to the biggest economy in Africa, even though the chochocho balablu bulaba master strategist said he has a trillion dollar economy target for 2030!
Do you think that JagaBandiet of Borgu is a clueless clown who thinks that we are all olodos like him If e no dey, e no dey. QED!!!
Nigeria remains fourth largest economy in Africa despite rebasing
July 21, 2025
Nigeria has retained its status as the fourth largest economy in Africa despite a rebasing exercise that expanded the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced that the economy expanded to N372.8 trillion ($243 billion) in 2024, down from N314.02 trillion in the prior year as more sectors in the informal economy were considered in its calculations.
The statistics bureau adopted 2019 as its base year away from 2010 that’s previously reported.
The rebasing exercise covers the period from 2019 to 2023 and reflects changes in the economy’s structure, sectoral contributions, and data sources.
Despite the overhaul, Nigeria fails to reclaim its erstwhile status as the largest economy in Africa.
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), South Africa remains the continent’s biggest economy with a GDP of $410.34 billion for a country with little over a quarter of Nigeria’s population.
Following the Southern African nation is Egypt with a GDP of $347 billion while Algeria maintains its third position having $268.9 billion as the size of its economy.
Although Nigeria’s economy grew 30 percent above the projected $188 billion estimate by the IMF this year, the rebasing was poised to place the economy as the biggest in Africa.

If it was like this in PDP’s 16 years of prosperity, peace and security then how did APC make Jonathan a one term president

This administration na say and do so far so good, might take time in some cases. Thank you President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

ElSudani: What prosperity? Subsidized prosperity with no connection to real production like more industries, more jobs, more infrastructure etc. With Subsidized dollars and Subsidized petroleum products etc. What exactly was driving the economy? It was a house of cards. Thank God Tinubu had the courage to put a stop to it and start building a real economy with a real foundation.
A house of cards that grew the economy to the biggest in Africa?
It’s been three years since Tinubu removed subsidy on petrol and dollars, but he is borrowing more than PDP presidents and unemployment is worse. So what is the balablu bulaba clueless clown doing instead of resigning?
luckydion: Really I will not argue the analysis of an expert. Nigeria is experiencing a mixed reality: macroeconomic indicators like foreign reserves and GDP growth show signs of improvement, BUT everyday living conditions and high poverty levels make life worse for many citizens. From citizen life structures you will realize structural fixes have yet to ease daily hardships.
Are debt and GDP numbers not also macroeconomic indicators?
How is Tinubu and his Cardoso doing in these areas? What is the point of borrowing money at high interest rates to put it in reserves that earn little or no interest?
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun made this known at the end of the inaugural Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja. Mr. Edun said that the benefit of the subsidy removal will be plough back into various sectors to improve business environment for local and foreign investment. He added that with the increased revenue from subsidy removal, various palliatives have been made available to cushion its effect on a short, medium and long-term basis.
Ofunaofu: Report: Current Govt Added More Debt in Two Years Than Nigeria Accumulated in 55 Years
• Decries Nigeria’s debt service-to-revenue ratio
•Urges FG to declare fiscal emergency
A new policy brief has warned that Nigeria’s worsening debt profile and weak revenue generation have pushed the country into a dangerous fiscal position, with the current administration accumulating more debt in two years than Nigeria recorded during its first 55 years after independence.
The report, released by the Alliance for Economic Research and Ethics LTD/GTE, a Nigerian policy think tank, argued that the country’s debt crisis has evolved into a governance and revenue emergency, as debt servicing obligations now exceed the federal government’s retained earnings. > > According to the think tank, Nigeria’s public debt rose sharply from N87.38 trillion in June 2023 to N159.28 trillion by the end of 2025, with President Bola Tinubu’s administration accounting for about N65.9 trillion of the increase within its first two years in office.
The organisation in the brief titled: “Nigeria Is Borrowing to Breathe—and the Clock Is Ticking”, noted that Nigeria accumulated only about N12.06 trillion in debt from independence in 1960 up to 2015, meaning the current administration added more than five times that amount in just 24 months.
The report stated that while previous governments also contributed significantly to the country’s rising debt burden, the speed of accumulation under the current administration had intensified concerns over fiscal sustainability.
“President Bola Tinubu’s administration has added a further N65.9 trillion in just two years. To put that in perspective: it took Nigeria’s first 55 years of independence to accumulate N12 trillion in debt. The current administration has added more than five times that amount in 24 months,” it argued.
It recalled that Nigeria briefly became almost debt-free externally after the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo secured an $18 billion Paris Club debt relief package in 2005 and paid $12 billion to extinguish about $30 billion in external obligations.
Olofofo247ng: "CBN Governor and his selfless team deserves more accolades
The economy indeed took a dramatic turn around; I’m sure so many around the president would have wondered how he’s going to do it and yes he got it right, the economy is working."

Prosperity is on the horizon 🔥📈
The prosperity that was achieved by PDP presidents before Tinubu begged Buhari to make Jonathan a one term president
Kalaskala: God bless Osho baba for this one, a true representative of the Niger Delta.
How is the jet-flyingolosh0-carrying SINator a true representative of ND when he is Esan?
Is he a true representative because of his regular drama in the NASS? Or because of his sterling tenure as Edo governor?
Would you know if the former tailor and labour leader employed as many as 19,500 teachers in his eight years as a progressive APC governor?
anonimi: NUT commends Oyo over recruitment of 19,500 teachers
The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Oyo State, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde-led government for recruiting 19,500 teachers in five years.
The union, in a statement signed by the NUT Chairman, Oladimeji Raji and the Secretary, Salami Olukayode, noted that the appointment of 5,000 teachers in his first term and 14,500 since the inception of his second term into the state primary and secondary schools was noteworthy.
The union said the ripple effects of the recruitment were that it would address the problems of inadequate manpower in the education sector and promote teaching and learning.
The statement read, “Your disposition towards turning the tide of the education system of Oyo State remains unprecedented and unmatched not only in the annals of recruitment history of our dear state in recent times but also across the entire 36 states of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory.
“Your Excellency Sir, your achievements in the education sector since assumption of office particularly, on the successful recruitment of over 14,000 qualified teaching professionals and about 3,500 non- teaching personnel, aside from an appreciative number of caregivers is a clear cut and a perfect reflection of your results-oriented style of leadership aimed at providing free, qualitative and quantitative education to the amiable citizens of Oyo State. This gesture shall, without doubt, have a significant touch in our classroom and as well enhance educational service delivery to our school children.”
Sheuns: Who put Nigeria’s population at 240 million people? Last I remember, a population census was last done in 2006.
That is another of the many failures of A-looter Propaganda Conmen, APC.
Buhari was to do census in 2016, he failed. Tinubu also has no plan to do any this year.
I guess that if APC can't do the basic things they promised, it's difficult to see them do something that they did not even promise.
anonimi: World Bank offers Nigeria forex rate advice, as Tinubu eyes N200/Dollar rate

The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to *bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.*
“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.
“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.
If the olodo of Katsina failed to do it, what of the Chicago graduate
Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has promised to ensure that the naira would be equal to the dollar in value if voted into office.
NAN reports that Buhari said this on Monday during the south-east presidential rally of the party at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
“It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar. This does not speak well for the nation’s economy,” he said.
He urged the people to vote for APC, noting that he would ensure that corruption was tackled headlong if elected.
