cococandy: @bold, Yes you have. What if I want the $300 dollar bag with nothing in it? How is it your place to tell me what value of bag to carry and what I should have in it?
You people police others too much. Live and let live. Not everyone wants money sitting their account waiting for the rainy day while they use stuff they don't really enjoy. While we may question the reasoning behind such choices, its overkill to shame people for being big spenders when they are spending their own money. You can disapprove without being so vocal about it seeing as it is their own life.
And I'm saying this because it has become like a norm. Somebody can't buy what they like in peace anymore or celebrate an expensive gift given to them by a loved one without the spending police swooping in on them to them make them feel bad about their happy moment.
Y'all should take a chill pill biko. I imagine that you, like most blacks, complain about racism and the police (and civilians) killing blacks in the US without any repercussion. Don't you? Have you ever wondered why Koreans, Chinese, Indians, Pakistanis and other Asians are not killed so easily BTW, where/how and from WHOM do you think rich people make their money?hairyanus: I simply know that i am not an enemy of progress. To that end, good news about Nigeria is what i look out for. I also know that Bill is to big to be bought...
We shall conquer polio.
www.nairaland.com/attachments/1963886_img20141221222908_jpega5ceb77b383c01e7aae6ff14909fc6c8 Royal2010: BILL Gates took the world by storm when in 1985, his company, Microsoft, introduced Windows, an operating system compatible with all personal computer software products developed on the MS-DOS system. It was a grand breakthrough which not only profited Gates and his company, but also benefited most PC users. Leveraging on the success of Windows, Gates, in 1986, took Microsoft public with an Initial Public Offering (IPO) of $21 per share. With his 45 per cent of the company’s 24.7 million shares, he became a multi-millionaire at the age of 31. A year later, he became a billionaire when Microsoft’s stock rose to $90.75 a share. In 1999, with stock prices at an all time high, Gates’ net-worth rose to $101 billion.
But Gates has proved that money does not make a man but that rather it is what man makes with money that makes him. Though programming and money brought him to the world stage, it is his eagerness to lend a hand and his heart to the vulnerable that has made him a world citizen. He is immensely wealthy and has everything money can buy, yet he closely associates with those who have nothing and is prepared to share his all with them. He goes out of his way to ensure the comfort of those who have no chance whatsoever of reciprocating his good gesture. He and his wife, Melinda, have decided to give out 95 per cent of their means to charity through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Nigeria has benefitted tremendously from this deed.
One of the issues that have attracted the attention of Gates is polio eradication. He has demonstrated unwavering commitment to see Nigeria exit the group of polio endemic countries more than any Nigerian dead or alive. He even has more information than Nigerian leaders about areas in the country where the war against polio is being lost. In a newspaper interview earlier in the year, he said, “We have some local governments that are still not as engaged in the activities as they should be. In fact, I’ll give the President, when I meet with him today (September 27, 2012), a list of those local governments, so that he can work with the governors to approve that.”
After meeting with Gates in New York, President Goodluck Jonathan returned to Nigeria and summoned governors of states still harbouring polio with a charge to stem the tide of polio in their domains. Similarly, the Presidential Task Force on Polio Eradication (PTFPE) was set up to advise and monitor polio eradication progress shortly after a meeting between Gates and President Jonathan in Abuja last year.
Gates has visited the country a number of times to sensitise the leaders to the need to put an end to the polio scourge. He even had to get the 36 state governors as well as the Federal Capital Territory minister to sign up to the Nigeria Immunization Challenge launched by his foundation earlier in the year. The Challenge set specific objectives that needed to be met during each quarter of 2012 with a view to freeing Nigerian children from the clutch of polio. The Challenge became necessary because although Nigeria made great progress in 2010, reducing polio by 95 per cent, it was not sustained in 2011, which resulted in the resurgence of the polio virus in the year with an increase in 2012. According to Global Polio Eradication Initiative in the latest edition of its Weekly Polio Update, Nigeria is the only country with ongoing transmission of all three serotypes.
As a motivation for the governors, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation stated that it would award every state that met all the necessary threshold criteria by the end of 2012 a $500,000 grant to support their top health priorities which could include priority initiatives in public health, such as malaria and tuberculosis, improving immunization, HIV prevention and treatment, or safe drinking water and hygiene promotion. In addition to the grant, the foundation promised that governors who achieved the goals would receive special recognition from Gates for their contribution to the elimination of polio. Winning governors would also be highlighted in his foundation’s communications, such as Gates’ annual letter or the foundation’s annual report, social media materials and Gates’ public engagements globally.
Gates’ foundation also teamed up with Aliko Dangote Foundation to stop the spread of polio in Kano State. Under a four-year alliance, the foundations would provide funding, equipment and technical support to the Kano State government to strengthen polio immunisation.
Apart from committing billions of Naira to the polio eradication campaign in the country, Gates has provided leadership in the campaign, showing more concern about the spread of the debilitating but preventable disease in the country than those elected to govern the people.
But his altruistic activities in Nigeria are not restricted to polio eradication; he is also committed to caging malaria, which is said to kill at least 10 Nigerian children daily. He is determined to wrest Nigerian infants, children, and pregnant women from the jaws of death occasioned by malaria. Since he set it as his objective in 2007 to see to the eradication of malaria from the world in his lifetime, Gates has been working hard to actualise this goal.
He is motivated to join hands with others to fight malaria in Nigeria and other developing countries because he is aware of the direct contribution of malaria to poverty, losses in productivity and reduced school attendance. The Gates Foundation has been involved in the distribution of insecticide-treated bed nets and effective drugs in Nigeria. He is also involved in funding research on the development and delivery of new malaria drugs, particularly for treating acute malaria in at-risk populations such as; infants, young children, and pregnant women. To actualise the malaria eradication dream, his foundation is working on developing a safe, effective and affordable vaccine against malaria.
Recently, he promised to support the development of vaccines to fight tuberculosis with $220million over a period of five years. This has resulted in the development of six possible TB vaccines that are currently being tested.
Despite the direct intervention of his foundation in the eradication of polio and malaria and the stemming of other diseases, he also has donated $1.4billion to Global Funds to Fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in different countries of the world.
Just as he is committed to eradicating polio and malaria so is he resolute to boost agricultural production in the country.
Earlier in the year, he provided $12million for the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) to improve yam production in Nigeria and Ghana. The project according to IITA would focus on increasing yields through better seed tuber supply and improving markets for the underground, edible tuber.
The multifaceted five-year effort is expected to double the incomes of three million small-holder farming families.
IITA said, “The initial focus of the project is on 200,000 smallholder farm families in Nigeria and Ghana, 90 per cent of whom cultivate less than two acres. A key priority is to ensure that affordable pest- and disease-free seed yams are available to farmers, along with storage and handling technologies that can reduce post-harvest loss.”
With the initiative, yam breeders would develop and widely disseminate new, higher-yielding, disease-resistant varieties.
In addition to that, he is also funding to the tune of $9.8m a research project into whether cereal crops can be genetically engineered with nitrogen-fixing bacteria. The essence is to create cereal crops that can access nitrogen from the air using symbiotic bacteria, reducing the need for expensive chemical fertiliser.
The focus of the investigation will be maize and the purpose of the intervention is to help small subsistence farmers.
But before we chose Gate, some Nigerians were considered for the Tribune Man of the Year alongside Bill Gates. . . .
The Gates’ edge is that through his intervention, he has been able to improve the wellbeing of many Nigerians. Without standing to gain anything, he has deployed his resources to uplift the average Nigerian. Quite a number of Nigerians are sleeping under insecticide-treated bed nets donated by Bill Gates, many are getting free anti-malaria drugs donated by him, many tuberculosis patients have access to free medical treatment through his intervention, many HIV/AIDS patients can easily access anti-retroviral drugs and the lives of many infants and their mothers have been saved from untimely death because of his input. Gates has also been able to galvanise the federal, state and local governments to take action concerning polio eradication. Very soon, the production of yam and maize would get a boost because of his commitment to increase food production and reduce poverty in the country.
If there is anyone who puts his resources and energy behind the desire for a better life for the majority in the country, it is Bill Gates. If there is a friend who will not stop at anything to put smiles on the faces of Nigeria’s poor, it is Bill Gates. This American has demonstrated his unequivocal affection for Nigeria; he even loves Nigeria more than many Nigerians. He is, therefore, our Man of the Year.

Jagaban is well versed in political treachery, subterfuge and political warfare. He would not show his hands at this time. When the time is right, we would hear from him.
Buhari's ratings is at an all-time low and APC doesn't have a vibrant opposition. Tinubu is the spark needed for the engine of opposition politics to roar back to life. Yoruba/ South West politics is not the same as national/ federal politics oh. Please don't forget. Secondly, Buhari is NOT Jonathan. Buhari is not from a minority tribe but rather from a DOMINANT tribe whose elite are more united politically than any other tribe. Did all their northern presidential candidates, including the Association of Conmen in Nigeria- ACN's RibaduN, not all step down for Buhari on the eve of the 2011 elections? Did they not all collaborate on the BBOG- Bring Back Our Government (to the north) subterfuge project? Where is Oby Ezekwesili today?Used & dumped. Simplicita. Thirdly, Buhari is NOT Jonathan. While Jonathan encouraged INDEPENDENCE of our democratic institutions with greater TRANSPARENCY, (which many foolishly termed weakness) Buhari is a one-man show aka dictator per excellence. Go and check the list of people dealt with by EFCC so far and thank me later. www.nairaland.com/attachments/2508658_oroagba_jpeg0abfc12dc92c58919137322247296662 |

basilo101: LMFAO, Tinubu has sold the afonjas, after bubu did all this he later became their messiah?? What do you expect of a "bastard" who abused & cursed the late sage Awo who is the Yoruba nation's political leader of thought and original Omoluwabi Only a bastard will sell his father's household after using his left finger to point to the house! https://www.mikeangelonews.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/BolaTinubu.jpgBabasessy: Awo Family Without An Awo By Sam Omatseye (The Offensive Article)
https://rarerborealis.com/wordpressblog/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/ns_9095.jpg
The Awolowo rebirth in the Southwest has inspired gongs, songs and rhetoric of sorts. But they have missed one point.
It occurred to me in Abeokuta last week amidst the big crowds and euphoria of the swearing-in of Senator Ibikunle Amosun as governor. In all the states from Lagos to Edo, where Awo has witnessed ideological resurgence, hardly a single family member has played a role.
So we have an Awo family without an Awo. That is an irony. But history overwhelms us with this sort of twist. Obafemi Awolowo toiled for his reputation. His roots were lowly, he toiled to school both home and abroad, launched into careers in law, business, journalism and eventually politics. He carved a niche for himself, and became the first methodical and charismatic leftist in our history. Other leftists abounded but they did not inspire comparable drama and following.
He faced tribulations, went to jail, failed in elections, won a few, but he imprinted his ideas and legacy in the country, and no single mortal has beaten him in the history of this country. His greatest achievement was in the area of ideas, and that was how he fashioned a family. Most families are born of biology but his issued from ideology. That family suffered with him.
In a spoof of Jesus Christ, these were the men who followed him in his teachings, and endured with him in his temptations. So he formed a kingdom for them in the Southwest, in the old Western Region, presiding over his projects, his legacies and people.
In all of these, the family he had was not his flesh and blood. In another spoof of Christ, who were his family anyway? Those who were with him must be counted as his family. So, I combed in the ambience of Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), and I found none. I went to Ogun, I frisked the crowd under Amosun’s bower, hardly any. Around Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in Osun, I could not lay a finger. With Governor Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti, where are the forbears of Awo? Yet, I can hear the chants of Awo. Hardly in any of the inaugural speeches or any of their other public intervention would you miss the philtre and filter of Awo from these gentlemen. To parody Novelist Joseph Conrad, they are the sparks from Awo’s sacred fire, the messengers of the might within the man.
Already all of them are pursuing the legacy ideas of Awo: free education, free health services, infrastructural development, urban renewal and economic engineering.
Lagos has posted itself as the John the Baptist. The others are putting up valiant efforts, and the world of course is watching to see how well they will perform. It will call for great work, resourcefulness and cooperation. They are the real Awoists, and Awo was a man of rigour and vigour.
The Awo son that many expected to take after the father was Olusegun, who unfortunately died in a car crash. We shall never know if he could have pulled it off. But the others have not shown much of the paterfamilias’ brio and depth. In the past decade, under this republic, they have blended with the wrong crowd. Even H.I.D, hobnobbed with Alao-Akala, who brought illiteracy to governance; with Oyinlola who turned the grace of office into a hell-hole of despots; with Daniel who could not arrest his quick fall into megalomania.
I wrote once that this woman whom Awo once described as the jewel of inestimable value has lost value to his cause. If he came back to life, he would have committed the extraordinary act of divorce after death. Even his newspaper, The Tribune, has so stumbled and fallen that it swims in Awo’s vomit.
Groucho Max, one of the funniest satirists in American history, said of a man that he got his looks from his father. Then he quipped, “He was a plastic surgeon.” That means the son is not his real son, or he did not inherit his natural looks. Ideologically, when we talk of Awo’s family, the chief inheritor is Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the leader of all the others. He was the one who stuck his neck out. He could have lost his life or ended his career in politics. The so-called real Awolowos who bear his surname cannot come up for mention. They are Awolowos but not Awoists. They stabbed their father in the back. They have committed ideological parricide.
The only person that made a real try was Awolowo-Dosunmu in the early 1990s and she lost roundly. She was accused of trying to ride her father’s coattail. Political families are good for democracies. They can exemplify the high ideals of diligence, dignity, ideas, character. We have seen these in such families as the Kennedys, the Adamses, the Roosevelts, the Ghandis. They just don’t claim family. They appeal to the high ideals that endeared the families to their societies.
It’s also an irony that these families are falling into twilight. Some of them have vanished. Enoch Powell, a British MP, once gave us the famous line: “All political lives, unless they are cut off midstream at a happy juncture, end in failure because that is the nature of politics and human affairs.”
Columnist Ambassador Dapo Fafowora adverted to this idea in a recent outing, and I debated it with him afterwards. I don’t believe that a political life should be judged by how it ends but what it means. The quote is often missed by many who mistake “careers” for “lives.” A political life should be judged by its legacies. If we judged Awo by how he ended, we would look at him only as the loser to Shagari. That is why I see an intrinsic mischief in Enoch’s quote. But I would agree that political families end also in failure if you judge how they peter out and not the legacy.
Awo’s legacy is alive and well. Members of other families in flesh and blood can carry on. Immediate families tend to suffer from what an author, Noemie Emery, describes as dynastic curse. The children tend to be intimidated by the standards set by the fathers. So they just don’t want to try. They feel they cannot match them or come even close. The problem probably comes from the fathers themselves. The Adams, who produced important presidents, later gave birth to moral vagrants and drunks. The Bush daughters showed themselves as party girls when their father was contesting the political battle of his life.
But Joe Kennedy groomed his sons assiduously, and they excelled in politics. They also had a fair share of tragedies. Ted Kennedy regained his sobriety and voice in America after a season of debauchery. In Nigeria, we are seeing the Sarakis fade. A Saraki – Bukola - is wiping out the Sarakis from politics. It is a classic case of oedipal tragedy, something I predicted earlier this year on this page.
It is not late though for the flesh-and-blood Awolowos to join their father’s fold. But they must be genuine. Awo was the most important Yoruba personage in history after Oduduwa. They had stellar men like Oranmiyan, Balogun Latosa, Lisabi, Sodeke, et al. None of them had the unifying vision and organisational acumen that Awolowo gave the race. The wife, children and grandchildren should not watch others glow in his jewel without them.

I Will Maintain a modest lifestyle as President -Muhammadu Buhari.
“One of the major killers of our economy apart from corruption is waste. Our scarce resources are being plundered away very carelessly and unnecessarily wasted. Let me give an instance, presently, there are more than 6 aircraft in the presidential fleet. What do you call that? Billions of naira is budgeted every year for the maintenance of these aircraft not to talk of operational cost and other expenses.
You may want to ask what a Nigerian President is doing with so many aircraft when a Prime Minister of Britain fly around using the same public aircraft like an ordinary Briton.
Go and check and compare with that of any developed country in the world, the office of the Nigerian President is a very expensive one inspite our high level of poverty, lack and joblessness. Despite all these, you still find a Nigerian Minister spending about N10billion to charter an aircraft for just one year. Now, for me, when we come into office, all these waste will be blocked and properly channelled into our economy. We intend for instance, to bring back our National carrier, the Nigerian airways. We shall do this by bringing all the aircraft in the presidential fleet into the Nigerian airways and within a year increase the fleet into about 20.

Jayjey: Na why o, Na wetin be ur basis for the criticism. Just give me genuine reasons, then I will rest my case. He criticised the lawmaker for not sponsoring any Bill despite collecting multi millions of tax payers money monthly, not so? If YOU know of any Bill that he has sponsored, it is up to you to share that information. Easy Meanwhile since you are defending him, do you know if the lawmaker has used his legislative platform and influence to ensure this school in his constituency is refurbished and provided adequate number of teachers and other staff as well as properly equipped thus creating EMPLOYMENT for many people there? MathsChic: Some days ago, I was at a secondary school in Surulere (across the bridge from the Island) in Lagos for a friend's event where he is educating secondary students about the perils of peer pressure. I honestly wasn't expecting what I saw as the state of this secondary school. It left me wondering if this was a school or a dump yard. Why in heaven's name are Nigerian leaders looking the other way while the young ones study in this sorry environment?
The attached pictures are what I saw. This is no secondary school. It's a hopeless shanty. I hope this gets to front page and attracts the necessary attention.

Mindfulness: Why would they want to pay taxes when their money is not used for the common good but lands in the pockets of those in power?
Why would they want to pay taxes when they don't trust that their money will be invested in infrastructure, health care and education?
In developed countries, it's not even possible not to pay taxes, they will come after you the day you refuse to pay your taxes. Why? Their administration works and it works because the tax payers money is used for it to work. Those who find a way around paying taxes will be held accountable and may even up in prison if they are caught but more importantly those who collect taxes have to be transparent about what the tax payers money is spent on - else they will be held accountable too. Why do you think the 1st Republic politicians were LESS corrupt than the public servants we have today? Do you think that it is linked to the fact that a substantial part of their revenue came from TAXES collected from the people directly or those who own businesses unlike today where the bulk of the money comes from monthly sharing Niger Delta oil revenue? Is there a HIGHER probability that if YOU pay someone to do a job directly you will follow up to ensure the job is done properly (accountability)? Are people in the developed countries more intelligent INDIVIDUALLY than we are https://www.azquotes.com/picture-quotes/quote-africa-doesn-t-need-strongmen-it-needs-strong-institutions-barack-obama-70-94-20.jpg |

Several other global reports had also said that Lagos, with a population of over 22 million, would in the next few years, become the 4th mega city in the world, with a population of over 30 million.
The city placed 138th out of the 140 cities ranked in the latest liveability survey, just above war-ravaged Tripoli and Damascus.
“Of the poorer-scoring cities, 13 continue to occupy the very bottom tier of liveability, where ratings fall below 50 percent and most aspects of living are severely restricted.
“Continued threats from groups like Boko Haram acts as a constraint to improving stability in Lagos,’’ the report stated.
Escalations in hostilities in Libya prompted a sharp decline in liveability in Tripoli, according to the report, while Damascus, although seeing a stabilisation in its decline, remained rooted to the bottom.
The top five best countries to live in, according to the report, remain unchanged from last year and they include Melbourne, Australian; Vienna, Austria; Vancouver, Canada; Toronto, Canada; and Calgary, Canada.
The liveability survey assesses which locations around the world provide the best or the worst living conditions across five broad categories, including stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
Lagos scored highest in culture and environment, followed by infrastructure. It scored lowest in stability.
Three other African cities joined Lagos at the bottom rung of the liveable cities, including Douala, Cameroon; Harare, Zimbabwe; and Algiers, Algeria; ranking 132nd, 133rd, and 134th respectively.
While no African city made it to the top 10 most liveable cities, five were in the 10 least liveable cities.
Steve Ayorinde, Lagos State Commissioner for Information, could not be reached for comments last night as phone calls and text messages to his mobile number yielded no response. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/08/lagos-ranks-worlds-3rd-worst-city-live/ |

Yorubamafia: Watch as the Biafrans masturbate over this thread as if their entire 5 states is as rich as ikeja local government How has the riches of Lagos state helped it when we have the deprived citizens hailing, worshiping and adoring their elected public servants who defile and loot them mercilessly? Is that reasonable Lawmaker scores Lagos Water Corporation low
A Lagos State lawmaker, Mr Saka Fafunmi, on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of the state Water Corporation.
Fafunmi, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), said in Ikeja that the corporation had not been able to justify statutory allocations to it.
The lawmaker, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1 at the assembly, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that the corporation had the capacity to generate much fund internally through water rates but had relied solely on government funding because of poor performance.
'' Anyone that is using water will be willing to pay for it; the corporation has not been giving us water.
"Is there any new community that Water Corporation has given water? People depend on boreholes; even government estates have industrial boreholes.
"Why do we keep pumping money into an agency that does not give us the desired results?'' he asked.
He noted that the Adiyan Waterworks was located at Ifako-Ijaiye, where many of the residents had resorted to digging boreholes as a means of getting water.
''A lot of people are falling sick because they don't drink clean water.
''In the same compound, where you have sewage, is where you have a borehole.
''There is no way you can manage the sewage that it will not leak and pollute the water; everyone drinking such is drinking contaminated water,'' he said.
The lawmaker urged the corporation to increase water reticulation and supply to residents.

shaddoww: These are new roads with 9m width n a length of 500m above, with walk ways n street lights. But some people whose governor hasn't even patched a pot-hole will b here condemning. Is that not the work of the LGA If the lawmaker has any sense he will be making a law to ensure the elections for LGA are held regularly instead of having directionless Caretaker committee people run the place. www.nairaland.com/attachments/3504410_internet_jpeg8efe841e125b21f5a740dc528a146d09 |
