El-Rufai - It's Time to Restructure Nation 10 AUGUST 2010
For Nigeria to move to the next level, the issue of true federalism must be addressed, according to former FCT Minister, Malam Nasir El-Rufai. He shares his thoughts with Imam Imam.
Apprehension about the composition and workability of the Nigerian nation-state will subside if the country tilts towards true federalism, according to former FCT Minister, Malam Nasir El-Rufai. He said the present situation of things where all the component units get monthly allocations from the Federal Government only makes the states lazy and unproductive, adding that lack of foresight, financial discipline and lackadaisical approach to governance has played huge roles in limiting the country's march to greatness.
Many Of Those Calling For Restructuring Are Opportunists, Irresponsible – El-Rufai
The Kaduna State Governor, El-Rufai has described recent calls for the restructuring of Nigeria as political opportunism and irresponsibility.
El-Rufai, while speaking on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily said President Buhari’s administration has done far more in practical terms than past administrations and that many of those calling for a restructuring rather see it as a means of opportunism.
He stated that some of the practical steps taken towards restructuring included the fact that state governors are now more than ever, involved in economic policy making at the national level.
According to him, things that have always been hidden from state governments are now much more open as they are now more involved in investigations of finances of the excess crude account, among other things.
“We meet every month under the auspice of the National Economic Council and working together with the Federal Government we chart directions of economic policy and that is part of shifting the federal- state balance.
“A lot of the talk about political restructuring is political opportunism and irresponsibility in my opinion
“It is popular and people that have presidential aspirations think there is a platform upon which they will exploit this. As I said, if you look at the APC manifesto, all the elements to divulge power to the state to change the balance in the federation are there and we are committed to that as a party.
“The National Chairman of our party will restate that commitment and we are discussing it and as I said President Buhari and Osinbajo’s government has taken very concrete steps rather than rhetoric to actually move in that direction and we are going to move in that direction but we do not believe that the basis for it is rhetoric and opportunism, we do not believe that the 2014 CONFAB report is a sensible basis to even begin.
“We all know the circumstances in which the so-called CONFAB was put together, we all know the composition, how lopsided it was, how important stakeholders were not taken to account, how even the composition and numbers do not reflect the demographics and the diversity of this country and we took a position as a party not to participate but to encourage our state governors to be there at the table.”

dre11: FLASHBACK: Oshiomhole once wanted building named after Obaseki for ‘selfless service’
Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), once said Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, worked for the state using his brain and creativity.
Oshiomhole, who praised the governor during the governorship campaign of 2016, said a building at the government house should be named after Obaseki for his selfless service.
Oshiomhole said while he was governor of Edo, Obaseki helped him build the economy team of the state with his network.
“I know my limit. He knows his limit. Godwin Obaseki has worked for seven and half years for the people of Edo state, using his brain, creativity, quietly, not making noise,” Oshiomhole said.
“He sits in the office of the economic team which he built using his network of friends inside the heart of government house without demanding one naira.
“A man like that who will not ask me to give him contracts, but will promise me, comrade, you just do the thinking, we will create the means to actualise your thoughts. And to his credit today, check the books of Edo state, we did not build new structures in government house with government money. That economic team office was built through Godwin’s network. Today, it remains a permanent asset of the state government.
“I want us to be calling that building Godwin Obaseki building. I don’t see your opponent Ize-Iyamu being able to say that. In 2007, check the records, Ize-Iyamu was hiding from EFCC. He didn’t not vote. How can somebody who didn’t vote claim that he made me.
“If you have to look at Godwin and his credentials and you look at a man whose only work, by his CV, was a student and rusticated for two years, he read law but he is not a barrister. That is his foundation. I never gave him government job. Lucky Igbinedion’s mother was reported to have slapped Ize-Iyamu for misleading her son. He tried it with me, but we kept him away. Nothing near government circle. No access to public funds.
“Look at the road to his house, in our books, was dual carriage way. They took the money, constructed the road to his house and stopped. Although we have liquidated the godfathers politically, the entire political family will be liquidated.”
When you are done reading, kindly enumerate 10 things Oshiomole, Lucky, and by extension Ize Iyamu did for the same State while they held sway.
After that, do well to point out Obaseki's sins.
I honestly want to know what he did wrong. I am mon-partisan, whatever will grow Edo is all I'm up for.

CioAngels: I hope Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu on their own while not leave the wives/families of the police bear as they died pleasing them. Also you both should follow-up the tittlements of their families so that it will not everporate.
The fake progressive coNrade Oshi-omo-Ole does not care. Even the family can all go and die, it does not bother him. Such a wicked soul.
Woke up with strength and vigour this morning and was up to face today with all hopes and aspirations but was sad & almost started crying after watching this video.
I've been an advocate of leaders been strong at all time with will power to carry out leadership responsibilities. And that emotional leaders don't go far but certainly not this way.
In leadership and governance, there's a place for 'Human face' no matter the circumstances. Widows to the best of my knowledge are integral part of our society and if we don't apply human face when dealing with them, am afraid we are far from getting there as a people.
Two wrongs indeed can never make things right and as such, can't fathom why the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams A. O. will treat this widow like this and even tell her to go and die when she's struggling to provide food for her family. I think it would've been far better to make her pay a fine for her wrong doing than this humiliation.
IlovePMB: Oshomole and Eze Iya amu have done well for Benin people. They brought lots of developments in the state. They deserve accolades
Since you love the incompetent illiterate in Aso Rock without a certificate, it is understandable that you will confuse stealing and looting of Iya Mumu with Igbinedion as development. You need to go for deliverance sharp sharp.
Ize-Iyamu will take Edo back to Igbinedion’s era – Oshiomhole September 18, 2016
The Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has criticised a former Governor of the state, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, for saying Oshomhole’s successor will emerge from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Igbinedion, who was governed the state between 1999 and 2007, had recently said that the next governor would not only emerge from his political family but that the party would win by a wide margin.
But Oshiomhole told journalists at the 84th birthday celebration of a former Governor of the Midwestern region, Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia on Saturday that the state would not return to the ”dark era” of the opposition party.
The governor said that the task for residents of state on September 28, the day of the governorship poll, was to choose whether they wanted the house of Igbinedion, as allegedly represented by Pastor Ize-Iyamu, or they wanted to sustain the breakaway.
He explained, “The people have a clear choice to make. You want Igbinedion era back because Ize-Iyamu has been straight forward on it that they want to change this change to the Igbinedion era. Lucky has confirmed that one of their own would be used to reverse the clock back.”
He added, “Edo cannot return to the house of the Igbinedions… They want to use tax payers’ money to celebrate a man who has never served Edo State. ”
He called on people to vote for the All Progressives Congress candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, in order to move the state forward.
“Edo people have seen the light. They cannot go back to the dark era which the Igbinedion house represents. They will consolidate the present gain and raise it to a higher level by voting for Godwin Obaski, who is not and will never be part of the Igbinedions,” he said.

Chijzy: My problem with Hypocrites, is that where see White they will find all means to paint it black, so they have a cause to run their mouth..
This is for those people who have deliberately chosen to deny the fact that Obaseki has massively attracted Investments and Developments to Edo state.
This is the same Ossiomo power plant, the MOU project which the opposition said was never in existence.
You need to know that Obaseki is operating a 100% people centric Government.
No be everybody dey make noise about their accomplishments.
jaggabban: Massive crowd! Even the camera is trying to elongate or duplicate the crowd but e no fit. I just dey pity Obagone honestly.
You should pity the acid-throwing cultist and thief that coNrade Oshi-omo-Ole is trying to package in his desperate bid to be the Edo godfather and put the people in jeopardy as in Lagos with the bullion vans Jagabandit.
RuudVanNisteroy: Adams Oshiomhole told the world that Ize Iyamu was a cultist who was rusticated after he deformed another student by pouring acid on him and also a thief who looted the state dry when he was Secretary to the State Government, under convicted thief Lucky Igbinedion.
nairavsdollars: How will APC National chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, raise the hands and campaign for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the same man he called a thief and other vile names in the 2016 governorship election in Edo state?
Oshiomhole attacks Edo PDP guber candidate, says he’s a thief
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State says the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, is desperate to become governor because he wants to get immunity from prosecution for his role in the Dasuki arms deal scandal.
Speaking at the APC campaign flag-off for Edo North at Auchi, Wednesday, Mr. Oshiomhole said the EFCC should do its job and make the PDP candidate face the music for collecting N700m of the Dasuki Arms fund.
The governor, who said he has records of how the past PDP government looted the state resources, said the PDP has no project to point to in Edo North in 10 years.
He said: “According to Pastor’s statement to EFCC, he took the N700m Dasuki fund to their Leader’s house and they shared it in line with the principle of PDP which is ‘share the money’.
“Now EFCC asked how to narrate who and who did you share to, he said ‘ oh we gave various local governments’, they are singing how they shared government’s money for defence exactly same way as local witches used to sing at midnight when there was no light in villages.
“Do you know why he wants to be a governor, Mr Ize-Iyamu wants to be a Governor to get immunity to protect him from prosecution. Today, we ask EFCC why is Ize-Iyamu having confessed to money collected for Defence from Fidelity Bank, having confessed to taking it for purposes other than defence and directing how he shared it, he must face the music that Dasuki and others are facing. Even their leader wrote in his handwriting that he collected N300 million from NSA.
“Do you want to hand over Edo treasury to a thief. I’m a proud Kukuruku man, not the son of a cook, but we don’t take money for Police, money meant for soldiers, money meant for Defence to secure Christians in Churches, Pastors are collecting it and sharing it to their party members...."
kahal29: Good. Let your camp be happy for once cos it looked as if we were the only one campaigning. Ize is a goal .... Tell Obaseki's wife to also join the campaign train
She is with Iara Oshi-omo-Ole in the maternity ward.
Obaseki transformed Edo but is he owing salaries and pensions for several years like AreGbese?
Esseite: Ambrose Alli University Renovation - Civil Service Complex - Link road between Edo and Delta - Ogbemudia stadium. - Navis road Benin (Concrete tarred) - Gele gele seaport - Edo jobs (200,000) - Azura Power project - N25bn Bond with Nigerian Stock market - Benin industrial park. - Benin Modular refinery. - 200 primary healthcare centres - Edobest for Teachers and instructors etc
Can you help me with one Ize-Iyamu project anywhere in the world including himself, despite being In Edo Govt btw 1999 and 2003 as Chief of Staff and 2003 to 2011 as SSG?...
When you are done reading, kindly enumerate 10 things Oshiomole, Lucky, and by extension Ize Iyamu did for the same State while they held sway.

Ize-Iyamu will take Edo back to Igbinedion’s era – Oshiomhole September 18, 2016

Correct Hafusa man who left Osun in tatters and tears of owed salaries and pensions for several years? Is that how to be a correct man? Is that what the acid throwing cultist and thief will do if Edo people make the mistake of giving him the chance to resume the looting he did with Igbinedion?

They shout and exclaim when not needed, just to attract cheap attention...for churches that people go round to give offerings, these babes cause hold up when dancing towards the offering box, and at the end of church, they take selfies around clean & expensive looking cars. Some of them who need more clients do join the ushering unit where they position the seat of any rich looking dude close to where they will be stationed, in order to allow the dude maximum examination of their assets. These hired assasins don't joke with dancing steps...they will ensure u know they are well endowed & are a balanced diet in all bodily departments, especially if they are infront of u. Unfortunately for those who don't get a client to hook up with, after church they'll put back their high heel shoes in the bag, wear flat slippers and trek home in groups, while deliberating on the next church to attend that has rich dudes.
Seunelvis: Lol, Obj 8years tenure was a major break through, many jobs through telecommunications.
Was that for the entire country or only/mainly for the south west/south? Who is getting the most of the revenue from the telecommunications sector, paid into the federation account? The north or the south?
Maxymilliano: The issue of currency devaluation and inflation rates is affecting not just Multichoice but all the main players in the real sector of the economy.
The government, as a matter of urgency should work out stabilizing measures to mitigate the effect of the variables, that is responsible for the high cost of doing business in the country,
Many organizations are on the brink of bankruptcy and barely managing to remain afloat, with little or no support from the government.
Using multiple rates for round tripping corruption, like the Abacha era, won’t let them do the needful. Too much looting by Barawo Bubu and his presidency cabal of 40 thieves.
seunmsg: Northerners are changing the narrative so as to have an excuse to hold on to power and our educated southerners cannot read in between the lines. Smh!
The southerners who helped them into power in 2007 and 2015 should deal with it. Maybe they will learn, although I doubt that seriously.
Racoon: They played Awo in 1979, MKO Abiola in 1993(even bubu was part of the hated Abacha junta that make life difficult for this nation) & now they're up @ it again. This is why education or being sophisticated have no bearing in politics.
The crooked Orji Uzor Kalu seems to be the stooge the northern power clique is grooming up to install again on this nation because we refused to call evil politics what it's because it's feathering our nest.
Please how is it feathering our nest? With jobs created, electricity and water provided, schools and clinics available or how please? Thanks
