Another Nollywood festival in Denmark months ago: "We know Hollywood, we’ve heard about Bollywood, the Indian film industry. They also have their African counterpart, Nollywood. The Nigerian film industry has been growing exponentially since its first movies in the eighties, followed by its first videos in the nineties and the realization that it could be a very lucrative industry. In 2009, more films were produced in Nigeria than in the USA, making Nollywood the second largest film producer (1) ! Zach Amata, pioneer of the movement, describes Nollywood as a unique “way of telling Nigerian stories”. During his visit to Copenhagen for the first Nollywood festival in Denmark, Zach insisted that Nollywood is not about meeting quality standards, but about making people feel the Nigerian experience. The movies produced by his son Jeta, however, have nothing to envy to the Western productions. His latest movie, Black Gold, deals with the struggle for the Niger Delta, and will have its world premiere during the Cannes festival this month – bringing finally Nollywood under the flash lights!" http://zeartoflife.com/2011/05/16/nollywood-a-new-voice-of-nigeria/ |
"Bollywood (India movie industry) and Nollywood have concluded plans to host a joint film festival for both movie industries to commemorate the 60th and 50th independence anniversaries of both countries respectively. The festival, which is scheduled to take place in Nigeria by January 2010, is expected to serve as a vehicle for strengthening the cultural and economic ties that have existed between the two countries over the years. Bollywood & Nollywood have recently been ranked the first and second largest movie industries respectively. India serving a large population of over 1.1 billion citizens, and Nigeria, 140 million. Prof. Dora Akunyili, the Minister of Information and Communication commended the effort of the Indian government in making this historic event possible, and observed that the two countries have had a long-standing cordial economic and cultural relationship. Before some people crucify me, pls hear me out. 1) Genuinely, there's a cultural difference in what we consider entertainment (ask "akata" to watch basket mouth, and u will see exactly what i mean) 2) nigerians watch 9ja movies and hollywood movies (honestly, we watch everything, Chinese, Indian etc, .lol), black americans watch hollywood movies and tyler perry!Featuring roles on both parties would be a great idea, but we would watch, if osifo (for example), was in a tyler perry movie, will the international media watch if halle berry was in a nigeria directors movie (dont know any 9ja director's name of the top of my head, lol), will it generate the revenue to be profitable
I agree |
Anyone who honestly believes that Nollywood can actually rival Hollywood must be deaf, dumb, and blind. Nollywood needs loads of improvement before they get close to or the same level as Hollywood.
nex:The threads article is about the Nollywood vs. Black Hollywood not Nollywood vs. Hollywood. The Black Hollywood & Hollywood industry are different. |
all4naija:Actually many are being preserved in Ife if I am not mistaken but I agree with what you are saying |
cchampme:wow, I hope this is not the end of Batman movies in general though because these new & refreshed batman movies are actually good, especially the dark knight with Heath Ledger; and I am not even a big Batman fan. I suspect they will get a new actor though, if the third movie is really successful |
nene1:Cosign 100%, the video is embarrassing |
