MsDarkSkin: Anonymous sounds bitter as hell..i will add some valid points to this convo. when I can.your black diasporian so of course that is your beleif, i never said black diasproains can never help but it isn't a necessity. Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I am bitter, know the difference. |
shymmex: I also went through discrimination from Afro-Caribbeans growing up - but they were also the people who helped me find myself... They taught me more Nigeria, than any Nigerian would ever have taught me... I learned more about African history from AAs than any Nigerian idiot would ever have taught me... Those are my brothers, and family - Africans on the other hand are a bunch of stupid and ignorant people... A continent of idiots who still worship and kill each over foreign fairytale gods despite having a rich history and culture...well for me I have afro-caribbean friends but are not afrocentrics. I knew about Nigeria and about Africa from my prents who are Nigerian, not black diasporians, and my travels in Nigeria made me know more about being Nigerian and being proud of my heritage. white americans racism taught me about the reality of my race and black americans taught me that they are not really the same as me even though we share the same race, despte me meeting good african americans. I didn't need non-africans to teach me about being Black african, I was welcomed by many africans of many backgrounds so I am different from you its people like you that tend to be jobless, nutts and and etc |
shymmex: I'm AFROCENTRIC because I'm freaking BLACK, get it?I am a black women and proud to be one, but I will never be a afrocentric or anything but myself. I was born and raised in the United states of America and went through racism from both white and Black americans, so I get it but I don't have to be a afrocentric to be it or kiss any white mans behind for it. Good luck in afrocentric fairy tale land |
shymmex: What you heard, the propaganda you chose to believe, or the REALITY on the ground, huh?If you want to believe they are the majority to make you go to sleep that is your business but I have seen different, and no arab country came to his defense mind you. Majority of his people didn't like him, it isn't propaganda. If gaddaffi did what he was suppose to do they wouldn't have killled in disgrace as they did. This the same man mind you who propose UNITED STATES OF AFRICA, so he was a little foolish to me as far as I am concerned. Are you a afrocentric? |
shymmex: The videos you posted are just superficial bs that won't change anything on the continent... There's nothing new in those videos - just a vicious cycle of poverty, and minimal developments which won't change anything till we challenge Washington and Brussels...It is not the so called "in direct" colonization affecting africa, it is poverty and corruption; when african leaders start using money on the right things for their citizens then more important issues will be fixed. Fashola is a very good example of that in Lagos, Ghana is a very good example of that as well I have respect for you shymmex, because this is the first time we are disagreeing here but some of what you are saying has a lot afrocentric philosophy I can't agree with. |
shymmex: Aljazeera and BBC.. Bwahahaha... The same BBC that showed videos of India, huh? Those people are a minority, based on what I heard he was punishing his people. I can't believ you are defending Gadaffi, a man no different from Mubak as far as I am concerned. Was it not his people the publically humiliated him and killed gaddafi that was splashed all over the media and youtube, oh please |
Also based on how you talk explains to me a lot on why many Nigerian say you are not nigerian, it is pretty obvious because that afrocentric philosophy will get you no where. |
shymmex: You're showing the typical African arrogance here... They have been trying since the 60s, yet the whole continent is still in the toilet... Africa can only rise if they get Europeans off their backs, and they can only do that if black people can speak with one voice... Till then, all the small countries in Africa, including big for nothing Nigeria, will continue to be manipulated towards destruction in Washington and Brussels.around the 60's if I am not mistaken is when most african countries already got out of their independence, so they are still growing. I believe with one voice with Black africans, which their are signs I have been seeing, not with one voice with black diasporians, sorry. |
shymmex: It seems you're confusing propaganda with real news - please switch off CNN and NBC... Libya NEVER asked for foreign intervention - America/Al Quaeda/stooges/foreign Islamists did... That's why it's better to watch alternative news networks to get a better picture of what's actually going on in the world...Libya citizens did ask for foreign assistance from America when they were fighting Gaddaffi and I saw it on aljizerra & BBC way back, I know what I saw. |
shymmex: They refused it because Gaddafi told them to at the AU...No they refused because they didn't trust America, isn't Gadaffi the same buffoon that said we should have UNITED STATES OF AFRICA also didn't libya ask for America's help when they were fighting against Gaddaffi in the first place, so what do you expect. oh please |
shymmex: Ghana didn't reach out to them, they went their out of their own freewill because of the slave coast in Ghana... And don't forget Kwame Nkrumah studied the black panther party blueprint for his fight against colonization in Ghana... AAs were at the forefront of the fight against apartheid in SA, and most of them go to SA out of their freewill - SA didn't reach out to them.Angola is a country and the issue of that country, I have said this many times each african countries have their own issue's to settle before jumping into something else. you fix your back yard first before entering somebody else's back yard. black africans don't need any expertise from Black americans, they can do it by themselves, which they have been doing. South africa is not a good example to use, so any argument about that country will not fly with me. Do we need black diasporians for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_ErP5dXOuw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic7dggkZBSE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx_H_LrZ1DE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpBDRNMEFLI&feature=related https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVttQN6UWuo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL8wo1M-7kU&feature=related |
shymmex: W.E.B DuBois reached out, went all the way, and died in Ghana...Sorry but Ghana is a good example of reaching out, the same with South Africa. Brazil has reached out to Nigeria and I know it has been reciprocated The question I have to ask is why do they have to reach out to Black diasporians? in the first place seriously, I don't care how you spin it, black africans can do it by themselves, and they are not cowardly, they just don't have to, it is as simple as that. many of those Nigerians in illegel detention in the UK are their because they brought it upon themselves, so I am not buying that argument, there is many 419 all over England based on what I have heard from my cousins and etc from England. Sadly, I was never told at all I was not Nigerian, I wonder how you were acting like to them to get that response, I even call myself Nigerian american since I was born in America and some Nigerians have even gotten irritated saying that I am Nigerian not nigerian americans, so you speak for yourself with that not other Nigerians born and raised in America. Africom was refused by all african nations accept Liberia, so I don't know what you are talking about: http://www.somaliaonline.com/community/showthread.php/16850-African-countries-refuse-to-host-Africom and you I know why it is just Liberia that is only hosting them. "When the program was launched, some African nations responded with caution and countries such as Libya, Nigeria and South Africa flatly refused any U.S. military outpost on African soil. " "Presently, AFRICOM is lobbying South Africa, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde and Kenya for support. But only Liberia and the autocratic government of Egypt—where President Obama spoke June 4—appears to be promising, according to Ambassador Yates. " http://www.finalcall.com/artman/publish/article_6124.shtml |
shymmex: African Americans have be reaching out to Africans for a long time, but Africans just love the their European masters too much to reach out back to their "brothers/sisters/cousins" in the diaspora...I have to disagree, Africans do reach out to Africans born in foreign land, because I was born & raised in foreign land and I been to many Nigerian community events where they speak to people like us to come back to Nigeria and help rebuild, and their are few Nigerians born in the western world who go back and help the same with many other black african countries. It is the westernized ones who act black american and care not for Nigeria or other black African countries that black africans don't reach out to. Those people who said you are not african or Nigerian are either a few foolish ones or maybe it is the way you are acting towards them that made them think that way. If Nigeria rejected people like us they wouldn't have put in the their constitution that we are automatically Nigerian in their constitution, once born from Nigerians: http://nigeriaworld.com/focus/constitution/chapter3.html Quite Frankly Africa does not need to reach out to Blacks in the Diasporia, it is not by force or necessary for them to progress, we have enough problems already. However their are few black africans reaching out to Black Americans like south Africa, Ghana, Senegal, Liberia, for them to know their roots and all but not as way to ask them what to do in their own land: http://www.ghana.gov.gh/index.php/news/features/5048-the-bridge-between-ghana-and-black-america "Ghana hopes to persuade the descendants of enslaved Africans to think of Africa as their homeland – to visit, invest, send their children to be educated and even retire here. “We want Africans everywhere, no matter where they live or how they got there, to see Ghana as their gateway home,” J. Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, the tourism minister, said on a recent day. “We hope we can help bring the African family back together again.”" http://yeyeolade./2007/01/13/back-to-africaculturallyspirituallymorally-and-physically/ Booker T Washington, Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey could have went back all they want regardless but they didn't, they didn't need Africans approval. The AU was for African nations only, which included North Africa, Black diasporians had nothing to do with it, so they didn't fail with anything. Many black slaves from Brazil went back to Nigeria, if I am not mistaken and the Nigerians didn't reject them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saro_%28Nigeria%29 Does this sound like Nigerians rejected saros(afro-Brazilans) when they came into Nigeria in the 19 century? NO "In Lagos, the Saros chose Ebute Meta, Olowogbowo, and Yaba as primary settlements.[4] The Saros mostly of Egba heritage established a few of the oldest churches in Lagos and also expanded the missionary work of the British in Nigeria. The Saros also emerged as a dominant commercial group in Lagos. Having developed a migratory forte, they had an edge as travelers who were able to go into the interiors to meet directly with various commodity producers and traders. They were the pioneer Southern Nigerian traders in Kola, a cash crop that later emerged as a viable and important export commodity for the Western region in the early twentieth century.[5] The Saros introduced the crop which was bought from Hausa traders across the River Niger into Southern Nigeria agriculture. The first Kola farm and the dominant trader in Kola, Mohammed Shitta Bey, were orchestrated by Saros. They also did not drop their yearning for western education as they dominated the ranks of professions open to Africans. They were lawyers, doctors, and civil servants" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saro_%28Nigeria%29#Life_in_Lagos_and_Abeokuta But Nigerians did show to them that they had to be respected though when entering their community: "Early on, the Saros who were well learned and trained, began to show paternal characteristics in their relationship with native residents of Lagos. The perceived disrespect extended to some Lagos citizens led to the Saros being expelled from Lagos in the 1850s, although they soon returned." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saro_%28Nigeria%29#Life_in_Lagos_and_Abeokuta https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKCHhfFnFS0 So please stop with all this, this is why this black unity nonsense is so ridiculous to me, I feel blacks worldwide should get along but black africans should fix their own backyard first before doing anything else. It is not as simple as you make it seem. Black American should progress their community and progress on their own, Black Caribbeans should progress on their own as well, and the same with Black africans as well. I know black africans will progress because they are already showing signs of it without any help from Black diasporians at all, once they touch on their countries then Black africans should help one another in their african countries. Do you know aliko dangote has opened up businesses all over west africa and help produce jobs as a result, that where it starts, I didn't see any black diasporians there telling him that. black diasporians are not the saviors fro Black africans, so knock it off. There will never be a full Black unity in the world, it is just the way it is people need to get over it, and just find solutions in their own cultural communities to move forward. Do you know I just joined(membership) Black Girls ignite Africa, a non-profit organization that helps with many issues affecting Nigeria and other countries: http://www.blackgirlsigniteafrica.com/ many other Nigerians/africans born in the western world are part of the group nobody rejected them. Do something with your time then pushing this fairy tale that will not give any sort of gain, Nigerians need people like us more. |
stillwater: So true. Many Africans would tell you this. And it still becomes rocket science to them when you start associating more with White people that have shown you more respect than the black American.Cosign 100%; I have heard stories like this in college with many africans, I have experienced this as well but the slight difference with me is I experienced a little negativity from white Americans as well to but not as much like black americans when it comes to numbers and occurrences. |
ezeagu: Ghana does not have multiple major ethnic groups tussling for power at the center like in the case of Nigeria, that is why there is more harmony. The Ghana identiy is based on the Akan who make up half of the country. When you think of Ghana you think of Kente and the Ashanti kingship.True but it is easier for Ghana since the Akan make up half the country and the rest of he tribes are small, so majority rules(one identity) however it has it's disadvantages but Nigeria well their is three majorities and that's where it gets tricky, so there is no one Nigerian identity really. I feel one advantage with Nigeria is it kept many of it's rich cultures, I heard in Ghana some of the languages have since been extinct and they becoming more westernized over there. |
South Korea and North Korea can't get along to survive but I BET if they were a team they would cooperate like a mofo. Why can't other BLACK TRIBES/COMMUNITIES?
In Ghana the tribes are getting along but it wasn't because of the obvious but because the former President of Jerry Rawlings killed corruption to a extent in the country(by killing some heads of state). When it comes to Nigeria, it is because of corruption and religious nonsense(Hausa); if those two areas are corrected the tribal issues would disappear gradually. When it comes to black communities well I feel they are getting along in their own way to a extent, especially among black africans, for example the Ghana vs. Nigeria you rarely hear this besides online in forums unless it involves football( or soccer). |
I may have missed something but there is nothing said on this thread from my recollection that Africans student came from wealthy families. Well to do means having the ability to obtain...i.e. work, start a business etc. Where would one get the funds beside working or family support? I have never met an African student came over with just a hand full of rice and their good looks.
sometimes they do get scholarships from the universities themselves(I know two very well that was in that position), some get help from the community like the church, some actually borrow money from friends and pay back later, even though their is family support it is not like the family is well to do either. Sometimes you hear of families selling land, property and etc to fund their kids to go to America as students. I am not disputing that fact that work and family support is involved, but it is not the only thing. p.s. some africans come to America without nothing you know, where they have to find their way when it comes to finding a place to live and have money in their pocket, The actor who played Amistad in the movie Amistad came to America poor, without nothing and had to sruggle to start over before he became famous. |
PhysicsQED: The Africans here are from different social strata. Some are "well to do", some are middle class, and some are from a poorer background. Reading claims that every African student in an American university is "well to do" after seeing direct evidence to the contrary multiple times with my own eyes is a bit unsettling because it makes me think people are falling for this idea of only the few "rich elite" blacks being able to do well abroad.Cosign 100%, if you go to Harvard, johns Hopkins University, and etc many educated Nigerians and other africans attending there have doctorate, engineering and etc degrees and many of them came from poor backgrounds, and the rest are actually from middle class backgrounds, not to many from wealthy backgrounds. This shouldn't be surprised especially in Nigeria because in certain parts of Nigeria, like Lagos for example by law gives free education regardless of socioeconomically status. |
I read all that you said and I hear you. You can have 20 million of Africans working together to build a bridge so it is easy to cross from one side to the next but if you have 10 million ignorant niggas on the side talking about they are tired and throwing sand in your garri....how can a bridge be built? The same thing goes for Black Americas, Black Brits, and Carribs. There are thousands of Blacks in America and Islands working together but constantly have to fight ignorant niggas at the same time. They are working harder to bring progression in their communities the same thing for Africans. How do you expect Africans to work together when they can't even spend a day without worrying about who is Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Ashanti, Zulu, and Bantu? Many Black Americans complaining about the "white man" when many Africans complaining about whom is the lightest! Really? The question is....do anyone even like themselves enough to move forward?
True, you have some points. To me at this point for the black race in general needs to start ignoring foolish people in their own cultural community in order to move forward to progress with in their communities. |
Blyss: I disagree. Highly improbable.I guess you and me have to agree to disagree because I think differently and agree with the link |
ghostofsparta: Why should I bring forth something I never agreed to, you don't get my point - I am of the opinion that the Yorubas were descendants of the Yoruba deities. Odua been the most prominent.I feel the yoruba descended from the Nok: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nok_culture |
