Celebrities / Meet Ajura & Easy Jay, G-Worldwide New Artistes by anonymousIP2: 12:25pm On Apr 25, 2018
@VIVIANGIST

G-Worldwide Entertainment, the premier African music company, is proud to announce two new signings Ajura and Easy Jay, and introduce them into the market.

After proving themselves as confirmed leaders in the music space, with a track record of success,
G-Worldwide announces the latest additions to their rosters. Easy Jay and Ajura, are the latest
talents to be unveiled.

G-Worldwide Head of Artist Management, Louiza Williams said: "We are thrilled to welcome Ajura and Easy Jay to the G-Worldwide family. They have all it takes to develop and
become superstars in the African music scene, and will be game-changers in dominating and bringing African music to the world. We are extremely excited to have them as a part of the team and are eager for the journey ahead."

ABOUT AJURA

Ajura took a very unconventional route to making music. He began as a dancer.

Born Daniel Alaba Ojamomi,  in Ondo State, Nigeria, he is the last child of a family of 8. Tragedy struck early when he lost his dad at 3. But he forged on.

His early educatiuon was in Kabe College, Ilogbo, where he picked up dancing as an art of expression. He would later become popular as a member of the school football team, picking up the nickname, 'Ojams 10'.
A lack of funding limited his chances of becoming a professional footballer, although he had support from his mother.  But that support didn’t accompany his decision to make music.

After discovering his love for music, he dived into music production, dedicating his time and scarce resources to creating art. He was later able to start earning from his craft and providing for his family. Ajura, possessing a large heart, would later finance projects for his talented friends, paying for studio sessions and equipment. But his mother insisted on getting him more education, which he did.

In 2013, Daniel got admitted to Federal college of Education (Technical), Akoka, where he honed his craft, polishing his talents amassing fans via releasing and performing music. He graduated in 2016.
Ajura was signed to G-Worldwide Entertainment in 2018. He has a diverse set of musical influences, including luminaries such as Asa, D'banj, Wande Coal, Sugarboy, Burna Boy, Kiss Daniel, Beyonce, Akon, Chris Brown, and R. Kelly.
"He sees music as a tool and agent of change, both physically and mentally. I want to use my
music to speak for the dumb, my lifestyle to influence the deaf and my sound  to open the inner
eyes (minds) of the blind. He says.

ABOUT EASY JAY

Easy Jay watched his parents go through a divorce as a kid. But that didn't stop him from finding his path.

Born Oluwashola Raymond Oyekan, in the ghetto of Mushin, Lagos State, he is the first child from a family of three. At age 12, while in High School, his parents got a divorce and split up the family. That would take a toll on the young man, who went through primary education at Queen Maris International School, before moving to St. Saviours International School.

Irrespective of the breakup, he carried through his education, and found a way to move past the hurt to keep loving his parents.

Music came to him in middle school. At 13, he was already trying his hands at songwriting, and
would use school free periods as mime sessions. All of these got him the colourful nickname 'Sholi Akon'. He was also popular for his rare accent and scintillating vocals.

His first recording experience came in 2015, where he impressed in the studio, snagging an instant management deal with the producer, which helped him get more music recorded and developed his talent. That same year, he got into the Federal University of Technology, Akure, where he is currently in line for a degree in Project Management.

Easy Jay was signed to G-Worldwide Entertainment in 2018, and cites Fela Kuti, 2face Idibia, Usher and Chris Brown amongst others as his key influences.

@VIVIANGIST

Unical SUG Election Reportedly Interrupted And Manipulated By Hackers

*UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR IN TURMOIL.*

*AS STUDENT'S UNION GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS   IS MARRED BY IRREGULARITIES.*

*UNICAL SUG ELECTIONS ALLEGEDLY INTERRUPTED BY HACKERS AS THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS ARE LEFT DISENFRANCHISED*

*CUECO RELEASE RESULTS OF AN INCONCLUSIVE ELECTION* (See Screenshots below)

The University of Calabar had erupted into chaos as an aftermath of the 2018 *STUDENT'S UNION GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS* result which was released despite irregularities.

Viviangist learnt that the Election was scheduled to run from 10:00am to 2:00pm on the 24th of April 2017.

The election began in earnest by 10:00am as various candidates and their supporters were around campus to gather pins for the electoral voting, introduced in 2014.

Few minutes into the election, several electorates began to complain about difficulties in logging into the site (unicalevotes.com). Several screenshots of the voting experiences and difficulties faced were littered on social media. The Electoral Commission (CUECO) suspended the elections till 11:30am, when voting would continue.
Elections resumed and problems and reportedly the situation was worse. More complaints flooded social media.

Few minutes to 1:00pm, the voting on the site was closed and electorates were unable to vote till voting time elapsed. Students waited patiently  for the Calabar University Electoral Commission (CUECO), The Students' Affairs Division or any other management staff to inform the electorates on the reasons for the difficulty experienced and how to tackle it fairly.  In a twist of fate; celebrations began around school premises shortly before the results were released.

The students' community was divided into factions over the Presidential Elections, where three students competed keenly; *Enyam Kelvin (Faculty Of Management Sciences),  Coco Bassey Esu (Faculty Of Medicine), Joseph Frank (Faculty Of Social Science).*  The electoral provisions singled out medical students and demanded a compulsory deferment of one year academic session before any candidates from the Faculty Of Medicine would stand election; a demand met by one of the candidates *Coco Bassey Esu.*

The results of the election did not sit down well with majority of the students as the declared  winner of the elections; *Enyam Kelvin*  won by a little above *400 votes,* compared to about *10,000 Students* who were to receive pins for the election scoring to the lost of eligible voters from the electoral commission, after meeting a compulsory criterion of payment of school fees, not taking into account a number of others who had paid their fees but did not receive their pins.

Students from various parts of the University began a peaceful protest to reject the election results, seeking reasons as to why an election result would be released,  when it was obvious that the electoral process had been a complete disaster.

Two students were arrested during the solidarity March to hear from the CUECO Chairman. The two students have been tagged to be cultist and have since been moved to the Police station as at 7:15pm 24th April 2018.

The University management is yet issue a public statement as many questions seek to be answered.

Is the Management going to take responsibility for failing to provide secure and fair voting process even after thousands of students were made to compulsorily paying fees to enable them vote?

Will the School Management accept to let such a result stand, a result decided by about 700 students in all compared to 10000+ eligible voters,  especially when the problems came from the administrators of the site?

Was it a deliberate act from the management who have traditionally tried to remain neutral or a case of compromise of the site 'anname technologies'?

Students are calling and demanding on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Zane Akpagu popularly known for his Student oriented administration of the University put the Students and their good will first.

We await as the story unfolds.

Crime / Unical Security Opens Fire On Medical Students Over Kidnap Of SUG President - Pi by anonymousIP2: 11:26am On Apr 25, 2018
VIVIANGIST.COM

Image description - location is Hall 2 Medical Hostel
The last image is the SUG President being held at the common lounge
The first image is the winner of the Presidential election Enyam Kelvin celebrating at Malabor square before heading to hall 2.

At about 5:00pm On Tuesday, 24th of April 2018, pandemonium broke out at the Hall 2 hostel in main camp of the University of Calabar.

The crisis happened when the incumbent Students' Union Government President Afufu Anthony forcefully broke into the Medical hostel with some students alongside the declared winner Enyam Kelvin, in the controversial election which held on Tuesday, 24th April. The hostel was earlier shut until when cars drove into the surroundings and began throwing bottles at the hostel block and shattering glasses. The entry of the SUG President and his companions ended in inflicting injuries to residents who tried to hold the door in place. The Students Union Government President was then escorted into the common lounge while the gates were kept shot, to prevent harm from coming to him and ensure that he is available to be held responsible for the damages to school property and the disruption of Peace.

Security men from the surveillance unit arrived the hostel and attempted to break the locks, after failed attempts the security men opened fire thereby injuring students who ran away.

They Also threatened to shoot at medical students who stood by the gate.

The Chief Security Officer, Mr Simon Jarlath arrived the premises and had a conversation with the Senate President, Etta Enyi whom resides in the hall after which he threatened residents that should the President fail to be released within a stipulated period, police officers would gain entry by whatever means.

The residents duly released the SUG President unharmed, from where he was taken away with the security. When students demanded that attention should be given to injured medical students who were left unattended to, security men ended up shooting into the air to scare off students.

Calm has since returned to the hall, but the residents are left to live in fear over a possible reprisal from the hoodlums who accompanied the popular SUG President, as well as his loyalists and sympathizers in and around campus.

Literature / Fredrick Nwabufo: Chimamanda Adichie Will Lead Women To ‘Hell’ by anonymousIP2: 11:36am On Apr 24, 2018
@VIVIANGIST

Fredrick wrote:

Who made Chimamanda Adichie the supremo of feminism? Who made her the feminist papal? How did she become the feminist potentate?

By asking Hilary Clinton, former US presidential candidate, why her Twitter bio starts with “wife’, Chimamanda has not only intruded into the personal business of Clinton, but also scorned a key principle of feminism – “choice”.

Besides other leanings, feminism entails freedom of choice. A woman is at liberty to be anything she wants to be – doctor, lawyer, housewife or mother. The right to choose is principal, and this should not be prejudiced.

Setting straightjacket standards and rules, which Chimamanda’s brand of feminism promotes, will result in a second captivity – by matriarchal she-lords.

Notable feminists of the first and second waves such as Betty Friedan, author of ‘The Feminine Mystique’, emphasised the essence of “choice” in their works; that a woman can be a housewife or a career person if she chooses to. The key word here is “chooses”.

The imposition of personal foibles on the feminist struggle gives it a blemished complexion. The result of this is the ridiculing of women who choose to be mothers or housewives by their so-called “woke” peers.

As a matter of fact, Chimamanda’s brand of feminism makes a caricature of the movement’s goal – equality of gender. How? Chimamanda’s virulent feminism, by default, teaches all women are not equal – the housewife is less of a woman and in shackles, while the stiletto-wearing career woman is the archetypal vanquisher of the demonic patriarchal order.

In all, it is still “woke” if a woman chooses “wife” as her title. It is all a matter of choice. Personally, I believe “father” is an esteemed title. Nursing my six-year-old son from infancy has been the most rewarding duty for me. Yes, I am a father first.

In conclusion, Chimamanda’s feminism is already leading some women to the hell of confusion, bitterness and misandry. Feminism should be defined by all women in different stations, according to their realities and choice, not by some self-installed matriarchal potentates.

Nairaland / General / African Feminists And The Luxury Of Madness by anonymousIP2: 11:03am On Apr 24, 2018
@VIVIANGIST

African culture isn't bosom friends with women's rights. Neither is religion a known admirer of ambitious women who demand equality with men. It only requires a bit of emotional blackmail to muscle a female into realising that the male gender is king; the sole head and chief executive officer of the home in a traditional African society.

However, the past few years haven't been entirely comfortable for conservative African men, who are continually "threatened" by the feminist movement, which is fast gaining the interest of more women around the continent.

It is a new wave of enlightenment that aims to disinfect the minds of women against extreme submission to men, as it crusades for gender equality. In fact, to a great number of African men, feminism is "the new mental illness" in sub-Saharan Africa.

African feminism comes with alien demands, like women sharing equal partnership with men in all facets of family life, abolishing male preference in politics, ensuring reproductive rights for women and girls, and recognising the rights of women to hold religious titles without restraint to preside over men.

The feminist movement also criticises all forms of domestic violence (no matter how severe the "provocation"wink, and frowns upon oppressive cultural practices like: child marriage, female genital mutilation, and most recently, the payment of bride price during marital rites — since of course, the bride shouldn't be for sale.

The proposed emancipation of women in Africa is likely to be a long-term idealistic struggle, as patriarchy eats deep within the social and cultural systems of the African continent. Nonetheless, the women have neither cowered in fright nor lowered their expectations. The "indoctrination" of more women into feminism is on the increase.

Aside from successes in ensuring government's protection of women against sexual/domestic violence and female genital mutilation through favorable laws in several regions in Africa, women have made significant strides in politics as well.

In 2017, Rwandan women reportedly held 62 percent of the country's legislative seats; the highest in the world. In other sub-Saharan countries like South Africa, Senegal and Namibia, more than 40 percent of parliamentary seats are held by women.

Threatened, as expected, by the sudden emergence of women in politics, Nigerian lawmaker Gudaji Kazaure recently had some advise for parliament.

In his words, "It is good to give women opportunities in politics, entrepreneurship, because of the good role they play in our lives. My fear is, the women control the men at home. If you give them too much opportunity outside the house, they will capture everything. If you give them too much chance, one day, they will overthrow us. One day you will come here and find women everywhere in this chamber, and they will mess up."

In a strongly religious and culturally conservative African society, it appears, it "isn't sane" to make demands for gender equality. It "isn't alright" to question the historic gendering of God as male, a belief that informs the idea of "superiority" of men over women. It is "psychotic" to request equal partnership for husband and wife in the African marriage systems.

African women must keep up the fight against gender discrimination, until the "deranged" concept of feminism becomes the new standard of the African society.
