His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano , Governor of Anambra State has graciously approved Friday 8th March, 2019 as Work Free Day in Anambra State to enable Public servants travel to their respective communities to cast their votes on Saturday, 9th March, 2019.

All Public Servants are accordingly directed to ensure that they perform their civic duty of voting and voting wisely during the elections.

Anambra Govt To Build Youth Network On ICT To Serve Business Community


There are plans to explore and pull together youths who are technologically inclined under one roof to provide automated and technological solutions to the needs of the fast growing economy of Anambra State.


The Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Mr Bonaventure Enemali made the revelation in Awka at the graduation ceremony of the second batch of One Youth, One Skill Initiative.

according to Mr Enemali, the ICT graduates of the programme will be merged with those identified through the Anambra Talent Show under the Anambra Young Innovators to build a network to provide the digital needs of businesses in the State.

Commissioner Enemali also said that the graduates of the One Youth, One Skill Programme will continue to benefit from the Ministry’s quarterly mentoring programme to ensure they succeed and grow their businesses.

On their parts, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Steph-Kelly Uzor and the Chief Youth Development Officer, Mrs Chito Osili underscored the importance of the programme, and said it will make young people become self reliant and contribute more to the society.

Obiano Commits To Advancements In Security

The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed increased commitment and support to security agencies in the State.

Governor Willie Obiano who stated this at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Awka, during a thanksgiving mass in honour of the State Director of Department of State Security, DSS, Mr Isiaku Yusuf emphasized that the State is already embarking on aggressive mobilization of action plans to maintain its attained lofty height as the most secured State in the Country.

The Governor, while felicitating with Mr Isiaku, expressed his gratitude to God that all the security Chiefs working under him have gotten promotion, stressing that it lays credence to the breakthroughs recorded in the security apparatus of the State.



Speaking to the ABS, the Senator representing Anambra Central at the National Assembly, Chief Victor Umeh noted that Anambra has consistently demonstrated ingenuity in terms of security, saying that part of the reason he is campaigning to go back to the Senate is to support the Governor’s commitment and ingenuity in governance.

For the member representing Anambra East at State Assembly, Mr Uchenna Okafor, who reiterated the support of his people for the present administration, especially in peace brokerage, stressed the imperativeness of standing behind all APGA candidates at the General elections, to guarantee sustainance.

Mr Isuaku was full of gratitude to God and the people who attended the thanksgiving, calling on God to bless everyone.

Earlier in a homily, a visiting priest, Reverend Father Kingsley Ibeh who explained the concept of truth, said that the word of God is the truth and solid foundation, calling on Christians to say the truth at all times, whether palatable or not.

IGR: Anambra Internal Revenue Service To Automate Tax Assessment System


In a bid to meet Governor Willie Obiano’s monthly target of five billion naira revenue generation, the State Internally Generated Revenue Service says it has concluded plans to explore modern ways of tax drive in the State.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Board of Internally Generated Revenue Service, Dr David Nzekwu stated this while exchanging views with newsmen in Awka.

According to Dr Nzekwu, the Service is working to automate the system and ensure that every taxable adult are brought into the tax net, stressing that they will engage the public by embarking on massive tax education exercise in the coming weeks, as the people that pay tax is still low.



Dr Nzekwu, while pointing out that about two billion naira improvement on tax generation monthly is a clear indication that more Ndi Anambra are voluntarily coming to pay their taxes, revealed that they are adopting the strategy of enumeration of people and assets to create an automated billing system.

He further said that they will increase their conduct of periodic audit of agencies in the State as part of their mandate, calling on the public to reach out to them when in doubt or report suspicious and fraudulent agents to them for clarification, insisting that the proper channel for all tax related issues are their offices.

It would be recalled that during a recent IGR Retreat at the Gold Tulip Hotels, Agulu Lake, stakeholders in revenue generation and collection brainstormed to review and look at ways to improve the drive process.

During the retreat, Governor Obiano stressed that the State is underperforming in terms of revenue drive, and gave stakeholders a five billion naira monthly target.

Anambra Govt Targets To Transform ABS Film

Academy As 2nd Batch of Students GraduateThe state government says it will reposition the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS Film Academy to make it one of the bests of its kind in Africa.

Governor Wiilie Obiano stated this during the graduation ceremony of the one hundred and seven students of the Second Batch of the Academy held at the ABS Headquarters in Awka.


Governor Willie Obiano who was represented by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba described the academy as one of the initiatives to positively engage the youths and make them fit in the world of creative economy.



The Governor disclosed his plans of making the academy more productive through engagement of some volunteer lecturers that would handle the students on entrepreneurial studies to make them self reliant on graduation.


In his welcome address, the Rector of the Academy, Mr. Uche Nworah who is also the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS advised the graduands to be good ambassadors of the institution, and promised them of the Academy management’s assistance.

Mr. Nworah appreciated the people that sponsored students in the previous batches of the Academy, calling for more sponsorship from well meaning individuals and organizations as the institution has major objectives geared towards eradicating youth unemploymen.

In their separate speeches, Member Board of Directors ABS, Mr. Marcel Manafa who is also the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Radio and Television and Mr. Tony Oli, the Chairman State Sports Development Commission encouraged the students to boldly face challenges in their field of endeavours, as the future holds brighter prospects for them.


On his part, the Director of the Academy, Mr. Pascal Osubor restates the commitment of the Academy towards making youths employers of labour on graduation, urging more youths to enroll in the practical oriented institution.

Some of the students including Miss Nancy Ogbue, Mr Tony Egwuonwu, and Miss Blessing Ngwu testified how the three months program exposed them to the creative world, and recommended same for other youths.

Anambra Retreat On IGR Kicks Off Today At Golden Tulip Hotel Agulu

A two day retreat on Internally Generated Revenue is being organized by the State government.

A statement signed by the Deputy Director and Head Taxpayer Education and Enlightenment Team, of the State Internal Revenue Service, Mrs Sylvia Tochukwu Ngige says the Retreat will hold between today and tomorrow at Golden Tulip Hotel, Agulu in Anaocha Local Government area for State Internal Revenue Service, Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

It explained that the Retreat with the theme- “maximizing the Revenue potential of Anambra State through Integrated Revenue collection”, will provide opportunity for participants to review existing strategies of all revenue generating Ministries, Departments and Agencies and the collection agency to decide on modality of maximizing collection to enhance collaboration between generating and collecting Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The statement says that at the end of the Retreat, Internal Revenue Service and Ministries, Departments and Agencies will come up with an integrated implementation plan for all stakeholders to increase the State revenue profile.

Obiano Declares Zik’s Birthday Work-free Day, Asks FG to Make It National Holiday

Anambra State will soon start to observe November 16 of every year a work-free day in the state to commemorate the birthday of Nigeria’s first president, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, who led the country to independence on October 1, 1960.

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State who revealed the plan will go to the state House of Assembly with an appropriate bill any time from now for the legislature to pass into law.

Chief Obiano made these facts known in his response to the completion of the Zik Mausoleum in Onitsha, Anambra State, which was opened by President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday.

The governor has also asked the federal government to declare the birthday a national holiday as the “United States has done to its heroes like Martin Luther King, who successfully led the movement for the full restoration of human dignity to African Americans and other minorities in America by fighting racism in all its ramifications in the 1960s”.


Describing Azikiwe as the “greatest Nigerian who has lived in the last few centuries, a Nigerian who inspired the likes of former Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah whom he supported to go the United States to study in order to have a better understanding of the black and African condition”, Gov Obiano recalled that African nations like Ghana and Tanzania have honoured their pan Africanist leaders like Nkruma and Julius Nyerere.

Ghanaians celebrate the Founder’s Day on September 14 in honour of Nkrumah’s birthday while Tanzanians mark the Nyerere Day on October 4 in commemoration of his death.

“It is odd for Nigeria to continue to fail to honour Dr Azikiwe on an appropriate scale, and this failure will continue to prick our individual and collective consciences until the right thing is done”, Obiano declared.

The governor said that Zik also inspired such Nigerian nationalists as Chief Obafemi Awolowo with his intelligence, eloquence and public oratorical skills as well as stupendous literary gift.

“Chief Awolowo felt so challenged that he had to go to England to study law even as a married man.

“In appreciation of Zik’s profound influence on him, Awo, also known as the sage among his admirers, established his Tribune newspapers on Zik’s birthday, as Awo himself revealed in a 1980 letter”.

Obiano called Azikiwe the most detrabilised Nigerian politician who spoke all three main Nigerian languages, gave his children names of other ethnic groups and named key institutions for leaders of different ethnic groups, including his opponents.

According to the governor, when he established the University of Nigeria at Nsukka in 1960, Zik named its halls and residences “after Sir Ahmadu Bello who was then the Premier of the Northern Nigerian Region, Chief Samuel Akintola who was the Western Premier and Chief Awolowo who was Leader of the Opposition in Parliament”.

Obiano recalled how “Zik’s bold and imaginative development strides resulted in the country’s rapid development.

“The establishment of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, caused the Western Region to establish the University of Ife and the Northern Region to set up Ahmadu University at Zaria.

“Zik’s establishment of the African Continental Bank, Nigeria’s first indigenous bank, led to the Western government’s building of the National Bank and the Northern Region’s building of the Bank of the North”.

Commenting on Zik’s strides in journalism, literature, sports, entrepreneurship and national integration, Chief Obiano observed that the National Council of Nigerian Citizens (NCNC) founded by Azikiwe and Herbert Macaulay was the country’s first mass movement.

“Zik was truly phenomenal”, the Anambra governor concluded.

"However, while we are thanking Mr President for this mausoleum, we also pray you to declare Zik's birthday, November 16, a National Day in Nigeria. This will be in keeping with the honour and dignity conferred on other great African leaders of his calibre. For instance, Ghanaians mark every September 21 as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day. Similarly, October 14 is Julius Nyerere Day in Tanzania while July 18 is globally known as the Nelson Mandela Day.

It would therefore, be a thing of pride to all Africans if the federal government of Nigeria under you declares November 16 Nnamdi Azikiwe Memorial Day. It will be a day set aside for reflection on the life and times of the Great Zik and his Pan-Africanist struggles, his thoughts and philosophies. Your Excellency, I think that this gesture is long overdue."
