CASHEW SUPPLY 2019 : THE SHORFALLS AND LOSED-END FOR SUPPLIERS
I know many business people have very little time for long presentation hence the short nature or bullet points of this presentation. Most suppliers were DELIBERATELY shortchanged by buying companies in 2019. This piece is to enable suppliers guide against such FRUDULENT Cheating this year-2020. The BEST PRACTICE:
ENSURE MOIST FREE CASHEW NUTS- Ensure that any cashew nuts you are taking to your buyer is very DRY.
Procedure: Sundry properly at least for two days. Ensure that the moist content is less than 9 percent. Take a palm full and shake with both hands. The KUKU KUKU sound means moist or wet while the KAKA KAKA sound shows that the nuts are dry.

ELIMINATE BAD SEEDS-Ensure that you carefully select all bad seeds and remove them.
Procedure: Bad seeds include damaged seeds-such as cracked seeds, hollowed nuts, dead nuts, old crops, seedless nuts etc. This can be done by engaging the services of women pickers. It can also be done using the salt/water solution

COUNT YOUR NUTS- This means checking the quantity of cashew nuts in one kilograms Preocedure: Randomly pick from the various bags. Mix it up and draw out one kilogram (1kg) . Take hand full each until it finishes. Arrange in small units and count altogether

TEST YOUR KOR-KOR means Kernel Output Ratio or Kernel Out-turn Ration. This is the most important segment of cashew nuts supply. The KOR is the ultimate determinate of cashew prices. The KOR can be graded as follows-
48-52 –Excellent
45- 47-Very Good
43-45 –Good
40-42-Fair
35-39 Poor
NOTE: The KOR will ultimately determine the price of your cashew. (We will discuss ways to improve your KOR in subsequent series).
Procedure: How to test KOR. The one kilogram that has been mixed for nut count should again be used for testing KOR. Cut open all the nuts –separating the kernels/skin from the shell. Use three bows to separate the kernels: Label the bows as follows A-Good Nuts, B-Spotted Nuts and C-Bad Nuts. Weigh the good nuts on your scale and record whole. Weigh the spotted/stunted nuts on your scale and divide by 2. Add the number you get after dividing spotted /stunted to the number you got from the good nuts and then multiply it by 0.176 the answer is your KOR. Good KOR GOOD MONEY! POOR KOR POOR MONEY!
