The World Health Organisation has predicted a spike in COVID-19 cases ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities which will witness an increase in social gatherings.
The WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, said this during a webinar attended by select African journalists on Thursday.

Moeti urged countries to be on high alert for a possible surge in COVID-19 cases even as nearly 20 countries in the region experience an uptick in cases.

The Lagos State Government on Thursday read the riot act to motorcyclists and tricycle operators in the state, insisting that restriction on Okada riders from plying bridges, major highways in the state was still in force.
The government also tasked all law enforcement agencies in the state “to immediately and continuously embark on enforcement on all restricted routes”.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Frederic Oladeinde, gave the order at a press conference held at Alausa in Ikeja on Thursday.
According to a statement by Gboyega Akosile, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the transport commissioner said the game was over for traffic offenders, especially the menace and impunity of commercial motorcycles and tricycles’ operators in the state.

President Buhari has called on the Nigerians to exercise more courage in the fight against insecurity by his government.
Buhari stated in a statement released Monday August 10 that they are investing heavily in the procurement of new equipment.

He added that security officers must undergo training ahead of deployment to the field when the equipment arrives.

The declaration read;
We are working very hard to make sure the security situation improves very quickly in every part of Nigeria. We spend extensively in the procurement of new equipment as part of our endeavours.

Some have landed, others at the Ports are being processed, and we also have some on their way. Our government is trying its part on the equipment issue, and the military understands.

We recognize the value of getting our workers well trained to offer their best.

I would ask for some patience with the acquisition of equipment , especially with Covid-19's effect on global supply chains.

And then when the equipment arrives, we need to train workers before delivery to the equipment.
