Genotype generally remains constant from one environment to another, although occasional spontaneous mutations may occur which cause it to change. However, when the same genotype is subjected to different environments, it can produce a wide range of phenotypes. 1 Like |

Tribal mark is gradually going into extinction. I don't think I can do it to my daughters or sons, moreover, I don't think my tribe has a tribal mark. As a father or mother do you think you can do this to your children and what tribe do you represent ?

Phones / 8 Ways To Prevent Your Device From Slowing Down by anyamt50(m): 9:54pm On Aug 13, 2023 |
Smartphones, computers and Internet services operate at the slightest touch or voice command. A hanging or slowly responding device can be frustrating to the user. It may cause inconveniencies such as worry and anger. Some people may even throw away or smash their devices out of irritation. Recent studies have shown that each time people use their phones, it adds to their stress levels. A notification alert and ringtone give the user a little shot of adrenaline for every interaction. In the same way, a malfunction or slow response time adds to the adrenaline level of a user. But it is not the fault of the device that it is hanging or slowly responding to commands. It could be due to a virus attack, overloaded applications or software and dirt. Although there are differences in the settings of computers, tablets and smartphones, there are still similarities in how they work and how they can be prevented from slowing down. This Nigerian Boy Holds The Guinness Record For The Most Skips On One Leg | Punch But it is not the fault of the device that it is hanging or slowly responding to commands. It could be due to a virus attack, overloaded applications or software and dirt. Although there are differences in the settings of computers, tablets and smartphones, there are still similarities in how they work and how they can be prevented from slowing down. Here are eight ways to prevent your device from slowing down. Stop background apps When applications or software not being used are not closed or exited from, they continue to run in the background, use up data and space on the device, and consequently cause it to slow down. The Chief Executive Officer at Maocular Tech Expert, Michael Akinwumi, says that checking and stopping applications running in the background is the first step to preventing a slowed-down phone. Akinwumi adds, “Once you check your background application, you have to check the necessary ones and those that are unnecessary and then you stop them. “Most standard phones have a way of restricting applications from running in the background. That way, they will only run when you are using them.” He explains that battery optimisation on phones allows the option of restricting background processing and increasing battery life. The tech expert advises that unused apps should be restricted to running only when they are opened. Akinwumi said, “This will improve your device speed. For computers, you can check your task manager. There are some background processing that runs and you can disable or stop them if they are not used.” He, however, calls for caution while trying to stop the background running of software on computers. According to him, caution is necessary to ensure that tasks needed to continue running by the computer are not stopped, which will cause the system to crash inadvertently. “There is what is called the start-up manager on your computer. There, you just need to disable any start-up programme you know you are not using. When you don’t disable them, there are some programmes that once you install their applications or software on your computer, add themselves to the start-up application. Some of these applications are OneDrive, Google Drive and cloud storage apps, antivirus; they automatically add to your start-up operation,” he said. Minimise storage Once the internal storage of a device gets full, it begins to slow down. A computer technician in Abuja, Godwin Simon, says a device should not be crammed with many apps. Virus attack A virus or malware attack on a device without an antivirus will affect its speed and performance. The tech expert said, “If you have antivirus on your system and scan it regularly, you can avoid it. There is some antivirus that works in the background, some that you need to click on or scan for it to scan the device and some that you can schedule the scan to daily, weekly or monthly.” Simon warns that devices should be protected from virus attacks reiterating that this contributes to the slowdown of a device. Clear unnecessary apps Applications that have not been used for some time and are no longer necessary should be uninstalled to allow more storage space and device performance. Akinwumi said, “It is advisable to clear your temporary data to ensure optimum performance of your phone.” Optimise background apps “You can optimise background apps on your phone and ensure that they are up to date. Outdated applications make the phone malfunction, so it is important to update necessary applications,” Akinwumi said. Also, receiving numerous notifications from various websites and apps contributes to making a device slow. The tech expert advises, “Prioritise and only allow important notifications and disallow notifications for those unnecessary.” App compatibility The tech expert said the random access memory of a device should be considered when downloading apps. “Before you install an app, check your system requirement and the app you want to download or install and compare whether it can run effectively. If you have 4GB RAM for your system and you are trying to install software like AutoCAD, even if you successfully install it, the system will begin to slow down once it is opened. If the app needs a minimum of 4GB, ensure you have a minimum of six or eight GB so that it won’t affect the operation because that won’t be the only software you will have on your system,” Akinwumi said. Shut down properly Simon explains that not properly shutting down a computer puts it at risk of slowing down. He said, “Some people, when they are through working on their computer do not care about it and leave it still turned on. That way, the computer is at risk of downloading junk apps and software. You have to shut down your system when you know you won’t be using it anytime soon.” According to the technician, whenever a computer is charged, it should be disconnected from the charging source and when the battery is running low, the charger should be plugged in. Device hygiene Simon believes it is important to “know how to clean up your system. Once in a while, blow out the dust from it. Sometimes, if dust enters into a system, it makes the system very slow.” The software and hardware technician added that devices must be kept away from water and used or stored in a cool and dry place.

Science/Technology / Ways To Prolong Your Smartphone Battery Life by anyamt50(m): 9:40pm On Aug 13, 2023 |
In the ever-evolving world of smartphones, the importance of battery life cannot be overstated. Users depend on their smart devices for various tasks throughout the day, making a reliable battery a necessity. While the issue of overcharging smartphones has received attention in recent times, the impact of the quality of the chargers on smartphone battery health has been underplayed. In today’s world, smartphones have become indispensable tools that demand reliable battery performance. Paying attention to the often overlooked aspect of smartphone charging can make a significant difference in battery health. These are some of the reasons smartphone users should pay attention to the quality of chargers they use to charge their phones: Charger challenge A phone software engineer, Olaleye Morenikeji, told The PUNCH that choosing the right charger and adopting charging habits can extend battery life. Olaleye’s advice rings true when it comes to selecting the right charger for our smartphones. The charger that comes with the device or a reputable brand’s charger is specifically designed and tested to be compatible with the phone’s battery. However, many users are lured by the prospect of cheaper alternatives, opting for uncertified and inferior chargers. It may seem harmless initially, but it can lead to severe consequences over time. Fake chargers He said using low-quality chargers exposes smartphones to the risk of battery damage. These uncertified chargers often lack the necessary safety features present in official chargers, leading to voltage fluctuations, overheating, and potential short circuits. Over time, such detrimental effects can degrade the battery’s performance and overall health, leading to reduced capacity and quicker drain. Olaleye’s advice to opt for official or reputable chargers and embrace regular, slow charging practices lays the foundation for prolonging battery life. “It is always better to even leave your phone to be at 10 per cent before you can start charging your phone. This practice can help prolong the battery life and overall performance of your smartphone,” hesaid. Fast charging: Convenience vs battery health The convenience of fast charging is undeniable, allowing users to quickly recharge their devices on the go. However, relying on fast charging exclusively may come at a cost to the battery’s long-term health. Fast charging generates more heat and stresses the battery, which can accelerate the aging process. Consequently, a balanced approach is key. To ensure the longevity of a smartphone battery, adopting a regular charging routine at a slower rate is recommended, Olaleye says. While it may take slightly longer to charge the device, the battery is subjected to less stress, resulting in a more stable and sustained performance over time. This gentle approach minimises the risk of overheating and chemical degradation, ultimately extending the battery’s lifespan. “It is always better to even leave your phone to be at 10 per cent before you can start charging your phone. This practice can help prolong the battery life and overall performance of your smartphone,” the engineer remarked. Power outages The Energy Progress Report 2022 exposed Nigeria’s grim reality in terms of electricity access. With a staggering 92 million people lacking access to power out of a population of over 200 million, the country faces significant challenges in ensuring the well-being of its citizens. An iPhone user, Emeka Orji, highlighted the impact of frequent power outages and insufficient electricity supply on daily life, businesses, and economic growth. To cope with the uncertainty, many individuals carry power banks, enabling them to charge their phones regardless of electricity availability. “It is always better to even leave your phone to be at 10 per cent before you can start charging your phone. This practice can help prolong the battery life and overall performance of your smartphone,” he told The PUNCH. However, users should exercise caution and avoid overcharging even when using power banks, as it can still negatively affect battery health. Balancing convenience, battery health According to Olaleye, the quest for an ideal charger and charging habit is about striking a balance between convenience and battery preservation. “When in need of a quick charge, fast charging can be employed on occasion, especially during emergencies. However, for daily use, regular charging at a slower rate should be the preferred option to safeguard the battery’s health,” he concluded.

Travel / FRSC Advises Motorists To Avoid Bauchi-gombe Road Over Floods by anyamt50(m): 9:13pm On Aug 13, 2023 |
The corps marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Dauda Biu, has advised motoring public traveling through Abuja-Yola Road and those traveling from North-Eastern part of the country to the North Central to ply alternative routes. Mr Biu said this in a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, CPEO, Bisi Kazeem, on Sunday in Abuja. He said the advisory became necessary sequel to a heavy rainfall in the early hours of today, which lasted for some hours and cut off the road. According to him, there was a failed culvert at Kalajaga village along the Bauchi-Gombe Road. “This is precisely km 118 of Bauchi-Gombe Road whereby the heavy rainfall washed away the culvert linking Bauchi to Gombe, making the road not motorable for motorists. “The culvert is completely washed away and road cut off and alternative route is advised. In order to ensure safe trips during this season, motorists from Abuja heading to Yola should go through Abuja-Jos-Bauchi-Darazo-Duku-Gombe-Yola. “While Motorist from Yola to Abuja: should ply Yola-Gombe-Duku-Darazo-Bauchi-Jos-Abuja respectively,” he said. The corps marshal, however, solicited maximum cooperation of the motoring public on the development, adding that the corps would continue to update the public periodically on further developments. According to him, personnel of the Corps are fully on ground controlling traffic and diverting vehicles at the affected section of the road to ensure safety for all.
