An American naturalist filmed himself being eaten alive by a snake for a TV stunt but is now facing ridicule for getting his safety team to save him after just part of his head was consumed.

In footage aired on the Discovery Channel in 2014, 27-year-old Paul Rosolie and his 10-strong team tracked down the 20ft-long anaconda to the headwaters of the Amazon. Donning a black armored suit and slathered in pig blood, Rosalie moved tentatively "on all fours" toward the enormous beast as the cameras rolled and his wife, Gowri, watched. Seconds later, the female anaconda — one of the world's most fearsome creatures — pounced on its 5' 9" victim, latching on
to his head, before constricting his arms and body.

As Rosolie felt his arm "start to break" under the snake's grip, he ordered his team of fellow naturalists, doctors, and vets to save him, with just the top of his head in the animal's jaws. As the show aired, people across America took to social
media to express their disappointment at the highly anticipated footage.

In response, Rosolie claimed that he carried out the
risky move to raise money to save the snake's
habitat in South America and that the animal was not harmed.

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the National Youth Service Corps members of Igbo extraction to tell their colleagues that there is no hope of having a sovereign ‘Biafran State’.

Buhari said this when over 100 corps members serving in Katsina State came to visit him at his Daura residence on Tuesday.

A statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu, said the President urged the corps members to do everything to ensure the unity of Nigeria.

Speaking specifically to corps members from the south-eastern states, the President said, “Tell your colleagues who want Biafra to forget about it.”

The President said as a young soldier during the Civil War between 1967 and 1970, he fought hard to ensure the unity of the nation.

He, therefore, maintained that Nigeria would never disintegrate under his watch.

Buhari added, “As a military commander, I walked from Degem, a border town between the North and the East, to the border between Cameroun and Nigeria. I walked on my foot for most of the 30 months that we fought the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War, in which at least two million Nigerians were killed.

#3 ANACONDA

The Story: A giant Anaconda was found in “…Africa’s Amazon river…” killing over 200 people and 2000 animals. With a length of 134 feet (41 meters) and 4557 pounds (2067 kg), this snake apparently took 37 days for “…Africa’s Royal British commandos…” to kill.
The Truth: The snake is a Green Anaconda (Eunectes murinus) which, while one of the largest snakes in the world, falls short of these impressive numbers. With a length of approximately 17 feet (5 meters) and the ability to weigh over 100 pounds, this snake would need to be approximately 8 times the average length and over 20 times the weight.
This photo has been Photoshopped and it was done quite poorly. While a snake of that size would be impressive, it is highly unlikely. Also, the Amazon river is in South America, and stating that it is in Africa should raise several red flags.
There was a reward of $50,000 to anyone who can present a live snake of 30 feet or more offered by the New York Zoological Society since 1910. While it was discontinued to discourage people from bothering these giants in their natural habitat, that prize was never claimed in almost 100 years of people searching.

#4 KRUGER AFRICAN ROCK PYTHON


The Story: A couple of British tourists were in Kruger National Park in South Africa when a large African Rock Python slithered into their car’s engine cavity. It was removed unharmed.
The Truth: This story is on the borderline of too good to be true, yet there are multiple pictures, consistent story lines, and the snake would have fit successfully in that cavity. It may be embellished by saying that they had driven the car as it is more likely that the snake slithered into the cavity in the night, it is possible that it happened the way the Swarts claimed.

The Facts:
Species: African Rock Python (Python sebae)
Location: Kruger National Park, South Africa
Length: 13-16 feet (4-5 meters)

#5 GIANT SWIMMING SNAKE

The Story: Some unnamed person in a rescue mission to an unknown location for an unknown reason saw this snake swimming in the river and took a picture. It is estimated to be 100 feet long.
The Truth: This story is so vague on location, size, and everything else that it makes it hard to know where to start. However, it is easy to show that the size of the “snake” in this picture is well over the 100-foot mark they have given it when you compare it to the trees in the area. Other pictures of this “snake” show it unable to stretch across the river which it should be able to do easily if it actually existed.
Those facts combined with only one image of the snake in the water from above and one at ground level, combined with a lack of eye-witnesses leads this myth to be proven false.

#6 OLIVE PYTHON EATING A COW

The Story: A giant snake killed a cow and hoisted it up a cliff to eat it.
The Truth: Another case of a real photo combined with a story that is sensationalized. The snake is an Olive Python (Liasis olivaceus), a large python from Northern Australia. It reaches a length of just over 13 feet (4 meters) and they like to be either in the water or in rock crevices around the water as they are an ambush predator.
They commonly eat appropriately-sized rodents, birds, and reptiles. This snake had caught a Rock-Wallaby which, according to a person claiming to be the original photographer, the snake was unable to lift all the way up to its ledge so that it could consume it.
Significantly smaller than a cow, the rock-wallaby can weigh up to 53 pounds (24 kg), the size of a large dog, although many species get no larger than 22 pounds (10 kg).

Location: Kimberley region, Western Australia
Length: Under 13 feet (4 meters)
Meal: Rock-Wallaby, not a cow

# 7 RATTLESNAKE

The Story: A man comes across a giant rattlesnake.
The Truth: This is a case of an image that has been Photoshopped, and poorly. Rattlesnakes, while venomous, are rarely lethal and are relatively small. Most species remain under 6 feet 6 inches (2 meters) and many being under the 3 foot (1 meter) mark. They also weigh less than 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms), which is much smaller than the snake appears to be.

Species: Rattlesnake
Location: Unknown
Length: Under 8 feet

#8 FLUFFY

The Story: Fluffy is the world’s largest snake.
The Truth: Fluffy was the largest snake in the world and was entered into the Guinness World Records in 2009. Bred by Bob Clark of Bob Clark Captive Bred Reptiles, she was a very large Tiger Reticulated Python born in 1992. She was a gentle giant and was sold to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in 2008. She passed away 3 years later prematurely due to a tumor.
The current longest living snake is Medusa at 25 feet 2 inches (7.67 meters). She is another large Reticulated Python owned by Full Moon Productions Inc. in Kansas City, MO. She acquired this record in 2011 and still holds the record.
Most Reticulated Pythons reach a maximum length of 10-20 feet (3-6 meters). Often these larger-than-average snakes have been “power fed,” are obese, and die prematurely. Fluffy, for instance, passed away at 18-years-old. For a snake that should have lived well into her mid-20s to early 30s, she died prematurely, yet longer than many of these overfed snakes.
