Religion / Today Mark's The First Sunday Of Advent by apogeez(m): 12:13am On Nov 27, 2016

What is Advent and When is Advent?

Advent has two fold character: as a season to prepare for Christmas, when Christ's first coming to us is remembered; as a season when that remembrance directs mind and heart to await Christ's second coming at the end of time. Advent is thus a period for devout and joyful expectations.

Christians prepare for celebrating the birth of Jesus by remembering the longing of the Jews for a Messiah. In Advent, we’re reminded of how much we ourselves also need a Savior, and we look forward to our Savior’s second coming even as we prepare to celebrate his first coming at Christmas.

The word “Advent” comes from the Latin word adventus, which means “coming” or “visit.” In the season with this name, we keep in mind both “advents” of Christ, the first in Bethlehem and the second yet to come.

There are three meanings of 'coming' that Christians describe in Advent. The first, and most thought of, happened about 2000 years ago when Jesus came into the world as a baby to live as a man and die for us. The second can happen now as Jesus wants to come into our lives now. And the third will happen in the future when Jesus comes back to the world as King and Judge, not a baby.

Some people fast (don't eat anything) during advent to help them concentrate on preparing to celebrate Jesus's coming. In many Orthodox and Eastern Catholics Churches, Advent lasts for 40 days and starts on normal last Sunday of November after Christ the king and is also called the Nativity Fast.

Nairaland / General / MMM Rank 5th Most Visted Website In Nigeria by apogeez(m): 8:50pm On Nov 26, 2016
The online page of a controversial deposit money scheme, MMM, has taken a spot amongst the most visited websites in Nigeria, according to Web traffic monitor, Alexa.com.

Statistics available on Alexa, a standard for online traffic evaluation, show that MMM maintained the 5th position for the most part of November, edging out major platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and online retailer, Jumia.com.

Nigerians keep on patronizing the plan — which guarantees an arrival of up to 30 for each penny on each venture inside 30 days—in spite of all notices from the proper powers to cease.

The central Bank of Nigeria as of late revealed a radio and TV rush cautioning Nigerians not to chance their salaries on the plan, all without much of any result.

Individuals from the Place of Agents were censured by some MMM members when they called for quick crackdown on promoters of the plan prior this month.
Ordinary assertions from online analysts were about how the legislators were attempting to hinder a basic method for employment for the masses.

This week, the gathering denoted its first commemoration in the nation by giving endowments to the inside uprooted people in the Government Capital Region.

The News Office of Nigeria reports that individuals from the group as a feature of their exercises denoting the practice labeled: “MMM Cares”, gave alleviation materials to IDPs at the Gwoza and Bama Camps in Abuja.

They gave packs of rice, garri, containers of refreshments and noodles and also attire, and medications.

Education / FG Orders Separate Cut-off Marks For Varsities, Others by apogeez(m): 8:09am On Nov 22, 2016
The Federal Government has directed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board to consult with the relevant stakeholders so as to come up with new and separate cut-off marks for admission into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education from next year.

A statement issued on Monday by the Deputy Director (Press and Public Relations), in the Ministry of Education, Ben Goong, said the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah, gave the directive after a one-day meeting with chief executive officers in the ministry.

According to him, it is wrong to subject candidates seeking admission to different higher institutions to the same cut-off marks when the duration and contents of their courses are different.

The minister also approved the decision by JAMB to reduce its cut-off marks for admission into tertiary institutions.

Anwukah maintained that the current policy of adopting 180 as the uniform cut-off point for admission lacked fairness, equity and logic.

Goong said, “The minister is in full support of the decision of the board to introduce discriminatory cut-off marks for admissions into the institutions.”

Anwukah also directed JAMB to publish, in full, the list of unutilised admission slots into all universities, polytechnics and colleges of education on a course-by-course basis at the end of the first leg of the admission process to enable students and parents to take full advantage of existing admission vacancies in institutions where such exist.

The minister said this would prevent a situation where some institutions had more than the number of students they needed, while others could hardly fill their quotas.

At the meeting, JAMB Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, told the minister that the belief that the carrying capacity of Nigerian universities was far below the number of candidates that qualified for admission was wrong.

According to him, only those with 180 cut-off mark can be considered for admission, adding that out of those who met the criterion, a significant number might not have the five credits required.

Religion / The Solemnity Of Christ The King Sunday by apogeez(m): 12:28am On Nov 20, 2016
The solemnity of our lord Jesus Christ the king Sunday, It celebrate the widely inclusive power of Christ as Ruler and Master of the universe.

Authoritatively called the feast of Our Master Jesus Christ the Lord also known as (Feast of Corpus Christi) was founded by Pope Puis XI in 1925 during a time when respect for Christ and the Church was waning, when the feast was needed most.

Pius hoped the institution of the feast would have various effects. They were:
1. That nations would see that the Church has the right to freedom, and immunity from the state ( Quas Primas , 32).

2. That leaders and nations would see that they are bound to give respect to Christ ( Quas Primas , 31).

3. That the faithful would gain strength and courage from the celebration of the feast, as we are reminded that Christ must reign in our hearts, minds, wills, and bodies ( Quas Primas , 33).

Today, the same distrust of authority exists, although the problem has gotten worse. Individualism has been embraced to such an extreme, that for many, the only authority is the individual self.

Feast of Corpus Christi is celebrated on the last Sunday of ordinary Time according to Catholic believe, the Sunday before Advent
In 2016, the feast falls on November 20th which is the closure of the jublie year of mercy.

As a catholic I give my self one week preparing for the feast and proccesion.. what about?

'All Souls Day' How Many Of Your Departed Ones Have You Prayed For?

All Souls' Day commemorates the faithful departed. In Western Christianity,

this day is observed principally in the Catholic Church, although some churches of the Anglican Communion and the Old Catholic Churches also celebrate it.

The Eastern Orthodox churches observe several All Souls' Days during the year.

The Roman Catholic celebration is associated with the doctrine that the souls of the faithful who at death have not been cleansed from the temporal

punishment due to venial sins and from attachment to mortal sins cannot immediately attain the beatific vision in heaven, and that they may be helped to do so by prayer and by the sacrifice of the Mass,

that means as a christan and a true beliver you have the chance today to pray for all departed soul especially ur belove ones,so they will have eternal rest.

Religion / What To Know About Mother Teresa Of Calcutta by apogeez(m): 10:39am On Sep 02, 2016

Nineteen years after her Death, Mother Teresa is set to be consecrated a catholic saint by Pope Francis this Sunday.

She was born on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, the current capital of the Republic of Macedonia. The following day, she was baptized as Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. Her parents, Nikola and Dranafile Bojaxhiu, were of Albanian descent; her father was an entrepreneur who worked as a construction contractor and a trader of medicines and other goods. The Bojaxhius were a devoutly Catholic family, and Nikola was deeply involved in the local church as well as in city politics as a vocal proponent of Albanian independence.

In 1919, when Agnes was only 8 years old, her father suddenly fell ill and died. While the cause of his death remains unknown, many have speculated that political enemies poisoned him. In the aftermath of her father’s death, Agnes became extraordinarily close to her mother, a pious and compassionate woman who instilled in her daughter a deep commitment to charity.

Although by no means wealthy, Drana Bojaxhiu extended an open invitation to the city’s destitute to dine with her family. “My child, never eat a single mouthful unless you are sharing it with others,” she counseled her daughter. When Agnes asked who the people eating with them were, her mother uniformly responded, “Some of them are our relations, but all of them are our people.”

Agnes attended a convent-run primary school and then a state-run secondary school. As a girl, she sang in the local Sacred Heart choir and was often asked to sing solos.

The congregation made an annual pilgrimage to the Church of the Black Madonna in Letnice, and it was on one such trip at the age of 12 that she first felt a calling to a religious life. Six years later, in 1928, an 18-year-old Agnes Bojaxhiu decided to become a nun and set off for Ireland to join the Sisters of Loreto in Dublin.

It was there that she took the name Sister Mary Teresa after Saint Thérèse of Lisieux.

A year later, Sister Mary Teresa traveled on to Darjeeling, India, for the novitiate period; in May 1931, she made her First Profession of Vows. Afterward she was sent to Calcutta, where she was assigned to teach at Saint Mary’s High School for Girls, a school run by the Loreto Sisters and dedicated to teaching girls from the city’s poorest Bengali families.

Sister Teresa learned to speak both Bengali and Hindi fluently as she taught geography and history and dedicated herself to alleviating the girls’ poverty through education.

On May 24, 1937, she took her Final Profession of Vows to a life of poverty, chastity and obedience.

Why Female Smokers Are More At Higher Risk of Cerebrum Discharge

Ladies that enjoy smoking are more at danger of creating seeping inside the coating of the mind, otherwise called subarachnoid discharge, a study has cautioned.

Subarachnoid drain is a state of seeping in the coating between the mind’s surface and basic cerebrum tissues.

The discoveries demonstrated that despite the fact that cigarette smoking was connected to an expanded danger of subarachnoid discharge among both genders, ladies confronted the most elevated danger.

“Female sex has been portrayed as an autonomous danger component for subarachnoid drain, however we discovered solid confirmation that the hoisted hazard in ladies is disclosed by defenselessness to smoking,” said lead creator Joni Valdemar Lindbohm, Doctor at the College of Helsinki in Finland.

Besides, among smokers (1 to 10 cigarettes for every day), ladies were 2.95 times more inclined to have subarachnoid drain contrasted with non-smokers, while men who smoked practically identical measures of cigarettes were 1.93 times more probable.

Ladies who smoked 11 to 20 cigarettes for every day were 3.89 times more prone to have subarachnoid discharge contrasted with non-smokers, while men who smoked equivalent measures of cigarettes were 2.13 times more probable.

Ladies who smoked 21 to 30 cigarettes for each day were more than 8.35 times liable to have subarachnoid drain contrasted with non-smokers, while men who smoked tantamount measures of cigarettes were 2.76 times more probable.

Religion / Today Is Feast Of Assumption Of The Blessed Virgin Mary by apogeez(m): 2:21am On Aug 15, 2016

Today been 15 august Catholics in all parts of the word celebrate the feast of assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

What You Should Know about Assumption Of The Blessed Virgin Mary

The Assumption of Mary into Paradise, frequently abbreviated to the Presumption, furthermore known as the Nodding off of the Favored Virgin Mary as indicated by the convictions of the Catholic Church, Eastern Universality, Oriental Conventionality, and parts of Anglicanism, was the real taking up of the Virgin Mary into Paradise toward the end of her natural life.

The Catholic Church educates as doctrine that the Virgin Mary "having finished the course of her natural life, was expected body and soul into glorious radiance".

This precept was overbearingly characterized by Pope Pius XII on November 1, 1950, in the missional constitution Munificentissimus Deus by practicing ecclesiastical dependability.

While the Catholic Church and Eastern Standard Church put stock in the Dormition of the Theotokos, which is the same as the Presumption, the affirmed physical demise of Mary has not been overbearingly characterized.
In Munificentissimus Deus Pope Pius XII indicated the Book of genisis (3:15) as scriptural backing for the authoritative opinion as far as Mary's triumph over wrongdoing and demise as likewise reflected in 1 Corinthians 15:54: ""then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory".".

the Assumption is a big feast day, normally celebrated on August 15th. In all conutry, the dining experience is likewise set apart as a Heavenly Day of Commitment in the Roman Catholic Church and as a Celebration in the Anglican Fellowship.

HAPPY FEAST DAY TO THE MARYS

Health / Reasons Why You Should Eat Bitter Leaf by apogeez(m): 6:41pm On Aug 12, 2016

Studies conducted at the University of Texas have concluded that incorporating bitter leaf into your routine diet could reduce risk factors for such health conditions as breast cancer and type II diabetes.

It is normal for African cuisine to contain bitter leaf as an ingredient. Even though it is called bitter, the taste is actually described as having a mild flavor.

Bitter leaf carries several health benefits for many people around the globe who consume it regularly.

Listed below are five health benefits of eating bitter leaf.

Battles against breast cancer: According to BreastCancer.org, over 10 percent of all American females will develop breast cancer. In order to lower chances of developing breast cancer, maintaining a healthy weight, remaining physically active and maintaining a healthy diet are a few things that you can do.

Lowers Cholesterol: Using a bitter leaf extract supplement on animals during a study decreased bad (LDL) cholesterol by nearly half, while simultaneously raising good (HDL) cholesterol levels. There are no studies, however, providing a definitive determination of how bitter leaf will effect a human body’s cholesterol levels.

Lymphatic Cleanser: If you are a smoker or someone who is breathing second hand smoke, using bitter leaf is helpful for acting as a shield against the pollutants that pour from cigarettes while burning.

Contains Essential Fatty Acids: It is important for a person’s diet to contain linolenic and linoleic acid, because the body is unable to make them. Bitter leaf is able make these fats. According to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, when people consumed large quantities of linolenic and linoleic acid, they were at the lowest risk for cardiovascular disease when compared to those who did not.

High In Antioxidants: Oxidation is constantly assaulting your system’s cells. If this is left unchecked, precancerous cell formation could possibly arise. According to research conducted by and published in Food Chemistry, there are antioxidant properties found in bitter leaf that, when added to a person’s diet, offer excellent disease-fighting properties.

Crime / Housewives Fight Over Lover Bethe Each With Hot Water by apogeez(m): 5:38am On Aug 10, 2016

Two housewives, identified only as Muyibat and Biliki, have suffered severe burns after a fight over a man.

the two women emptied a kettle of hot water on each other during the brawl which occurred at their residence in the Yaba area of Lagos State.

Biliki, who was living with her husband in the Surulere area of the state, relocated to her parents’ house in Abule Oja, Yaba, in 2015, after separating from the husband.

Muyibat lives with her husband and three children in the house.

Our correspondent was told that 32-year-old Biliki accused Muyibat, 29, of marrying her former boyfriend, which caused bad blood between them.

Matters, however, came to a head after a disagreement on Saturday when the duo poured hot water on each other.

They were both admitted to a general hospital in the state.

Our correspondent gathered that the case was reported at the Sabo Police Division and one of the parties petitioned the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender, which mediated in the matter.

Muyibat told PUNCH that their problem started after Biliki accused her of marrying her (Biliki’s) boyfriend.

She said, “Biliki told neighbours that she once dated my husband and that she aborted for him during their relationship.

“She calls me Iyawo Sara (free wife). I have never known peace in that house. She fights me over every minor issue.

“On Saturday, I went to the market with my husband and when we got home, my child started crying.

“Biliki’s younger brother, Ahmed, came out and shouted at him and I cautioned him.

“His sister then picked up a quarrel with me and started raining curses on me. I did not talk because I was observing a fast. While she was abusing me, I sneezed and said, ‘Ausubillahi minashaitani rojeem’ (God, deliver me from the devil).”

Muyibat said Biliki, who is also a Muslim, thought she was referring to her and queried her for calling her a devil.

She alleged that Biliki attacked her in the process.

“I removed the water I was boiling for my vegetables and put it on the table. She (Biliki) held my head from behind and poured the hot water on me.

“Her younger brother slammed a plastic paint on my head, while she drew my hair. Both of them assaulted me,” Muyibat added.

The Kwara State indigene said she was rushed to a private hospital where she was rejected, adding that she later went to the Sabo Police Station to report the case.

Muyibat, who claimed to have passed out on the way to the general hospital, said Biliki had earlier in May threatened to pour acid on her.

However, Biliki, who suffered burns on her breasts, chest and hand, denied the allegations, saying her neighbour was the first to attack her.

She denied ever dating Muyibat’s husband, saying Muyibat was fond of making trouble with her and efforts to reconcile them had always been rebuffed by her.

She said, “I went back to my parents’ house when I had issues with my husband. Because of that, many of the tenants started ridiculing me.

“I was ill that Saturday and was sleeping beside my baby. Her child had come to play with my baby when she called him back. When the child didn’t heed her call, she hit him and the child started crying.

“Another child passing through the passageway was also crying that partcular time. My younger brother asked the other boy to stop crying and Muyibat abused my brother.

“My brother reported her to me and I told him not to reply her. She then started insulting me. We fought and our neighbours came to separate us.

“I was backing her when somebody suddenly shouted, ‘hot water!’ As I turned back with my hands raised, she emptied a kettle of hot water on me. Because my hand was raised when she attacked me, a little of the water splashed on her.”

Biliki said Muyibat also bit her brother while the latter came to separate them, adding that her two phones were smashed by Muyibat.

The Director of the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender, Mrs. Olubukola Salami, described the incident as horrific.

She said, “This horrific incident was totally avoidable as either of the parties could have just walked away and lodge a formal complaint at the nearest police station. But they decided to take the law into their hands and the result was unfortunate.

“Domestic violence has repercussions and it’s totally unacceptable anywhere. The Lagos State Government will deal harshly with those who disturb public peace.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.

She added that the victims were both given medical papers for treatment, but they had yet to report back to the station.

is something which is not right. For instance if
the accomplice is harsh—whether physically,
candidly or verbally—a stage should be taken.
Give a notice saying that it is not satisfactory,
but rather in the event that it is something

lone need
Ladies tend to give an excessive amount of
regard for their sweethearts or spouses that
their very own lives shrink all the while. While

to have your own group of friends as well.
Numerous a times, ladies don’t stay in contact
with their companions once they have a huge
other. Their need changes and they begin to

not the same with men. Folks, then again, do
make you a need yet they likewise
exceptionally understand how to organize
themselves well.

botch, then it’s about time that you either
leave the accomplice or look for expert help.

center as opposed to annoying at your beau or
spouse. This would light up your disposition as
well as wind up blazing a couple of calories all
the while—a win-win circumstance for you!
