Arsenal have agreed a fee - reported to be 22m euros (£19.3m) - for Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno. The 26-year-old German, who has been at Leverkusen since 2011, is yet to have a medical with the Premier League club. Petr Cech and David Ospina are the Gunners' frontline goalkeepers, and it is unclear who would make way for Leno. Arsenal are also optimistic about reaching a deal to sign 22-year-old Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira, who is at the World Cup with Uruguay. New Gunners boss Unai Emery has already signed defender Stephan Lichtsteiner from Italian champions Juventus on a free transfer. https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/C012/production/_102107194_bleno.jpg https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44533207 cc: lalasticlala |

Manchester United earned slightly more money than champions Manchester City from the Premier League last season, despite City's record-breaking campaign. United, who finished second, received £149.77m, £328,491 more than City. United were paid more because two more of their matches were shown live in the UK - which meant their facilities fee was £2.26m higher. In total Premier League clubs received £2.42bn, £2.1m more than last season. Jose Mourinho's United were shown live on UK television 28 times this season, the same number as Liverpool and Arsenal, with City screened 26 times. A club's total payment is made up of UK broadcast revenue - of which 50% is shared equally between clubs, 25% is shared based on the number of live UK television matches, and 25% is based on league position - central commercial revenues and international broadcasting revenues. City received £38.63m for winning the league, £1.93m more than second-placed United. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44150831 cc: lalasticlala

The automotive industry has experienced some incredible growth over the past couple of years. In the US alone, more than 30 automotive brands vie for the 17 million autos that are sold each year. Around the world, even more brands are selling everything from tiny economy cars to million-dollar exotics for the world’s plutocracy. But the industry is highly consolidated – a handful of major corporations own nearly all of the world’s major car brands. This graphic does not include every car company and every brand. Instead, it’s meant to be a visual representation of the amount of influence and market power held by a handful of very powerful companies. As a result, well known names such as Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, and Tesla have not been included because they do not belong to a large car making conglomerate. Ferrari does not appear because it’s been spun off from FCA and floated on the New York Stock Exchange. https://2oqz471sa19h3vbwa53m33yj.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/bi-graphicscar-brands-web.png https://www.businessinsider.nl/car-companies-of-the-world-2016-12/?international=true&r=US cc: lalasticlala |
Arsenal will face Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals, while RB Salzburg play Marseille. The Gunners will play the first leg at home on Thursday, 26 April, with the second leg a week later on 3 May. The final will be held in Lyon, France on Wednesday, 16 May, with the winner guaranteed a place in next season's Champions League. Liverpool will find out who they face in the Champions League semi-finals when the draw takes place at 12:00 BST. Arsenal won their quarter-final against CSKA Moscow 6-3 on aggregate, but were made to work in Thursday's second leg. Leading 4-1 from the first tie, the Gunners conceded twice in Moscow and needed late goals from Danny Welbeck and Aaron Ramsey to make progress more comfortable. Winning the Europa League looks to be the Gunners' most likely way of qualifying for next season's Champions League, with Arsene Wenger's side sixth in the Premier League and 13 points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham. Atletico, Europa League winners in 2010 and 2012, are considered favourites to win the competition and are second in the Spanish La Liga, 11 points behind leaders Barcelona and with the best defensive record in the league. They came through their semi-final against Sporting Lisbon 2-1, losing the second leg 1-0 in Portugal. https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/A913/production/_100838234_ramsey_getty.jpg http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43752477 cc; lalasticlala |
Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 50th hat-trick of his career as Real Madrid beat Girona to move up to third in La Liga. Ronaldo converted Toni Kroos' pass, but Cristhian Stuani's header made it 1-1. Real retook the lead with a powerful strike from Ronaldo and he then set up Lucas Vazquez for the hosts' third before completing his hat-trick. Stuani headed in Girona's second, Gareth Bale scored Real's fifth, Juanpe pulled one back but Ronaldo got his fourth and Real's sixth in injury time. The result takes Real, Spanish champions last season, above Valencia but they are still four points behind city rivals Atletico, who fell to a surprise 2-1 loss at Villarreal. Real are still 15 points behind leaders Barcelona, who won 2-0 at home to Athletic Bilbao earlier on Sunday. https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/F2B9/production/_100473126_ronaldo.jpg http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43453095 |
This madness will continue until we stop celebrating and electing mediocre politicians and start voting for visionaries. Politicians know we will always vote with sentiments and they are taking us for a ride. I can't fathom how Okorocha won the second term despite the abysmal performance in his first term. Imagine Akeredolu commissioning a billboard and people will reelect him. Imagine Fayose who has done nothing in terms of infrastructure in Ekiti wanting to be Nigerian president. |

Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked as manager of Bayern Munich. Following Wednesday's 3-0 Champions League defeat by Paris St-Germain, the club's board has decided to dismiss the Italian, who replaced Pep Guardiola at the start of last season. Ancelotti, 58, helped Bayern win the Bundesliga last term, but they only reached the last eight of the Champions League and the German Cup semi-finals. Assistant boss Willy Sagnol will take temporary charge. Bayern, league champions in each of the past five seasons, are third in the German table, three points behind Borussia Dortmund, with four wins, one draw and one defeat from their first six matches. They next play away to Hertha Berlin on Sunday (14:30 BST). "The performance of our team since the start of the season did not meet the expectations we put to them," said Bayern's chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "I would like to thank Carlo for his cooperation. Carlo is my friend and will remain my friend, but we had to make a professional decision. The game in Paris clearly showed that we had to draw consequences." Former Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid and AC Milan boss Ancelotti has won the Champions League three times - with Milan in 2003 and 2007, and with Madrid in 2014. That return makes him the joint most successful manager in European Cup history, along with former Liverpool boss Bob Paisley, who also won three titles, in 1977, 1978 and 1981. Ancelotti also led Milan to the Champions League final in 2005, but the Italian side were beaten on penalties by Liverpool, despite having led 3-0 at half-time. https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/FB96/production/_98060446_ancelotti_reuters.jpg http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/41429526 |
Woke up to early to watch the fight - it was a boring as hell. Just good for the fighters as they are both smiling to the bank, tedious for the fans as the fight didn't live up the hype. McGregor tried for holding up to the 10th round though |
Barcelona are to sue former player Neymar for 8.5m euros (£7.8m) over his 222m euro (£200m) world record move to Paris St-Germain. The Brazil international made the move to the French club in August after buying out his contract. The Catalan club are now claiming a breach of contract by Neymar as he only signed a new five-year deal in October. The Spanish club say they are seeking "8.5m euros (£7.8m) in damages, and an additional 10% in interest". The club's claim relates to a bonus payment Neymar received when agreeing his new deal last year. Barcelona said in a statement the club "decided to take these actions in defence of their interests". Neymar criticised the directors of the club on Sunday after scoring twice on his home debut for PSG in a 6-2 win over Toulouse. "I spent four beautiful years there and parted happy," said the 25-year-old. "But with [the board], no. "For me, they are not the people who should be there, for the direction of Barca. Barca deserve much better." https://i3.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article11023168.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/Paris-Saint-Germains-Brazilian-forward.jpg http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/41014149 |

Malala Yousafzai has gained a place at Oxford University after getting her A-level results. The Nobel Peace Prize winner, who lives in Birmingham, confirmed the news in a tweet congratulating all students getting their results on Thursday. She will be studying philosophy, politics and economics at Lady Margaret Hall. The 20-year-old was nearly killed by the Taliban in Pakistan for campaigning for girls' rights to education in 2012. In March, she revealed she had received an offer to study the three subjects at a UK university, on condition of achieving three As in her A-levels. She will be studying the same course at the same college attended by Benazir Bhutto, the former Pakistani Prime Minister. Ms Yousafzai was shot in the head on her way home from school after writing her anonymous diary about life under Taliban rule in north-west Pakistan. Militants boarded her school bus and opened fire, also wounding two of her school friends. She became internationally known after the incident and relocated with her family to Birmingham for further rehabilitation. In April, Ms Yousafzai was made the youngest ever UN Messenger of Peace. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-birmingham-40959543 https://ichef-1.bbci.co.uk/news/660/cpsprodpb/0755/production/_95577810_mediaitem95577738.jpg |
