Foreign AffairsTheresa May Set To Become UK Prime Minister On Wednesday by apoti(op): 8:21pm On Jul 11, 2016
Theresa May is set to become the UK's next prime minister after Andrea Leadsom pulled out of the contest to become Conservative Party leader. She's expected to take over as the head of the government on Wednesday.

The 59-year-old politician will take over from David Cameron, who announced he would be stepping down from the job last month.
Mrs May, who backed staying in the EU, has been home secretary since 2010.
Mrs Leadsom, who campaigned to leave the EU, said the UK needed "strong and stable government" and that Mrs May was "ideally placed" to lead the country out of the European Union.

Theresa is the MP for the area of Maidenhead in the south east of England. She's also the Home Secretary, which is a big job in the government. It means she is in charge of things like police, keeping the country safe and immigration. Theresa started in politics by stuffing envelopes at her local Conservative club. She studied geography at university and her first job was at the Bank of England.

Mrs May will become the second female prime minister after Margaret Thatcher, who held the top job from 1979 to 1990. Usually the British prime minister gets chosen when there's a general election, which normally happens every five years. The next contest is set for 2020.
Most adults in the UK can vote in it and usually the political party that gets the most Members of Parliament gets to have their leader become the new prime minister.

But after Mr Cameron quit his job, the Conservative party was left to decide who the new prime minister of the UK would be.
The Labour, Liberal Democrat and Green parties are now calling for another general election as soon as possible to let the British people decide who should be running the country.

Foreign AffairsChilcot Report: Tony Blair's Iraq War Case Not Justified by apoti(op): 11:36pm On Jul 06, 2016
Tony Blair overstated the threat posed by Saddam Hussein, sent ill-prepared troops into battle and had "wholly inadequate" plans for the aftermath, the UK's Iraq War inquiry has said. Chairman Sir John Chilcot said the 2003 invasion was not the "last resort" action presented to MPs and the public.

There was no "imminent threat" from Saddam - and the intelligence case was "not justified", he said. Mr Blair apologised for any mistakes made but not the decision to go to war. The report, which has taken seven years, is on the Iraq Inquiry website.

Prime Minister David Cameron, who voted for war in 2003, told MPs it was important to "really learn the lessons for the future" and to improve the workings of government and how it treats legal advice. And he added: "Sending our brave troops on to the battlefield without the right equipment was unacceptable and, whatever else we learn from this conflict, we must all pledge this will never happen again."

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn - who voted against military action - said the report proved the Iraq War had been an "act of military aggression launched on a false pretext", something he said which has "long been regarded as illegal by the overwhelming weight of international opinion".
After meeting relatives of British service people killed in Iraq, Mr Corbyn said: "I now apologise sincerely on behalf of my party for the disastrous decision to go to war." He urged the UK to back moves to give the International Criminal Court "the power to prosecute those responsible for the crime of military aggression".

A spokesman for some of the families of the 179 British service personnel and civilians killed in Iraq between 2003 and 2009 said their loved ones had died "unnecessarily and without just cause and purpose". He said all options were being considered, including asking those responsible for the failures identified in the report to "answer for their actions in the courts if such process is found to be viable".

In a statement to the media, his voice at times cracking with emotion, the former Labour prime minister said the decision to commit troops was the "most agonising and momentous" decision in his decade as prime minister, adding that he would "carry it with me for the rest of my days". "I feel deeply and sincerely in a way that no words can properly convey the grief and sorrow of those who lost ones they loved in Iraq - whether our armed forces, the armed forces of other nations or Iraqis.

"The intelligence assessments made at the time of going to war turned out to be wrong, the aftermath turned out to be more hostile, protracted and bloody than ever we imagined.... and a nation whose people we wanted to set free from the evil of Saddam became instead victims of sectarian terrorism. "For all of this, I express more sorrow, regret and apology than you may ever know or can believe."
But he was defiant on the central decision to go to war, saying "there were no lies, Parliament and Cabinet were not misled, there was no secret commitment to war, intelligence was not falsified and the decision was made in good faith"

There are 3 sides to every story - his side, her side and the truth.

I don't know who's right or wrong, but I think guys now need to be very careful. Desperate ladies are ready to exploit the growing publicity on domestic violence against women, knowing they can play the victim card and attract pity from the public.

Is the UK trying to apologise for Cameron's comments?
PoliticsBritain Offers £40m To Nigeria In Help Fight Against Boko Haram by apoti(op): 11:58pm On May 14, 2016
The UK has pledged funds of £40m ($57.44m)to help Nigeria in the fight against Boko Haram. Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond also said that Britain would train around 1,000 Nigerian militia in counter-insurgency operations.

The announcements came at the Regional Security Summit in Abuja, Nigeria. "President Buhari has shown strong leadership in the global fight against Boko Haram, a brutal organisation that has raped, murdered and kidnapped innocent civilians, forcing over two million people to flee their homes.

"Their allegiance to, and potential coordination with Daesh [Islamic State] is a reminder of the threat they present to the region and to British interests," Hammond said in a statement released by the Foreign & Commonweath Office.

The statement continued: "Britain and Nigeria, with support from the US, France, and its neighbours, are making progress to degrade Boko Haram, but we must maintain the momentum to win the war, and build the right conditions for stability in the region."
Hammond met with key regional leaders to discuss what the international community can do to support Nigeria with its security issues.

The fight against Islamic extremists will be paid out by the UK over a four-year period. The UN Security Council said the talks are to develop "a comprehensive strategy to address the governance, security, development, socio-economic and humanitarian dimensions of the crisis".
Martin Ewi, an analyst at the Institute for Security Studies, told Al Jazeera that Boko Haram is difficult to engage with the more remote areas of Nigeria.

"I believe Buhari [the Nigerian President] is acknowledging the difficulty and that it is not easy for the military to just go out there and elimate Boko Haram," he said.

"The rural areas have always been neglected when it comes to security and that has always been the problem - the ungoverned places. In many of these regions, the police are only getting to know them now. Now it is coming back to haunt us."

londonrivals:
Based on preliminary reports and investigation, it was discovered that the collapsed building was served contravention notice for exceeding the approved floors and thereafter sealed by the Lagos State Building Control Agency.
It added that it has also been discovered that in a brazen act of defiance and impunity, the owners of the building, Messrs Lekki Worldwide Estate Limited, the promoters of Lekki Gardens, criminally unsealed the property and continued building beyond the approved floors until the unfortunate incident of Tuesday which has led to loss of lives.
If this is true, then all the Directors of the company should be prosecuted and jailed for manslaughter.

I really pray and hope this incident will birth the implementation of proper Building standards and regulations in Lagos and in Nigeria

PoliticsRe: No Bomb Blast Or Attack By Boko Haram In FEBRUARY. by apoti(m): 12:39pm On Mar 03, 2016
I stand to be corrected, but I think this may be the first time since 1st October 2010, where no bomb blast was recorded throughout the month. Gradually the peace we all long for is coming.

No more threat videos from Shekarau and his army.
Our gallant soldiers are winning and are motivated, as the COAS is on the battlefield with them.
No more politicising the war on terror.
Money budgeted for arms are being used appropriately.
No more Dasuki distributing our yams to the wicked goats.
No more goats eating our yams.

Once the war on terror has been completely won, next is the economy, power, good roads, industrialisation, employment and the list goes on.

God bless Nigeria,
God bless the Nigerian Army,
God bless the President,
God bless all Nigerians
