The most recent governor of Ogun who tried a bit is Osoba. Daniel came in and messed up. Even Keke Ogungbe and D1 hyped him OGD - rearranged it as "god". Then Amosun came on board and put the whole Nigeria in mess to the extant that Nigerian properties abroad and aircraft were seized. This Abiodun had the chance to make himself a stand-out. But I dont understand it at all.....whether Ogun is cursed to have bad leadership. Now these two failures are struggling BTW themselves to become the next senator. Ordinarily, Abiodun suppose to respect Daniel, but as e be...they are both cursed.

Osoba- A decent man. No Debt, tried in rural electrification. Hinterland road network but Ogun state remained a civil servant- state that only came alive in the week of Federal Allocation payment. A narrow road entered the capital and the only activity on that route was predominantly traceable to indigenes inter- city travels and a few contractors.

Daniel- Then came a technocrat with a manifesto: Waking up the sleeping giant (something like that). Then a new industrial hub; Nigera' s largest was created in Sagamu, 4 Free Trade Zones with over hundred companies still functioning to date, massive road infrastructure development (directly by OGWAMA; a state owned construction company that was credited with about 540km of roads which was said to be the distant 1st across the country ahead of Yar'adua's 380+ in Kastina), Redevelopment and equipment of all hospitals, markets. Construction of stadia, Had highest Investment in Education. Conceived and initiated Deep Sea port, Dangote refinery that was initially established in Ogun, Agro Cargo airport city, etc, etc. Ogun state quickly rose in IGR and has since been rising to the point where the then "CIVIL SERVICE STATE" is now ranked #1 in Industrialization, about 2nd or 3rd in IGR.

Just go and check the difference between Ogun and Lagos Budgets and IGR in 2002 and compare with 2026.

Amosu- Then came an Accountant. Reversed most if not all Daniel's policies but at least gave a good account of himself in sustaining and improving IGR drive. Used Chinese companies mostly but developed best standard of infrastructure obtainable in Nigeria in the capital and one or 2 projects across other cities.

Dapo- Hasn't been too bad if you for instance compare him with his peers across Southwest. Decent road projects well spread across the state, airport execution, renewable energy and transport.

Ogun state is catching up with Oyo and Lagos. I agree it could have been faster. It would require Daniel's kind of vision and resourcefulness, Dapo's kind of Continuity plan.

Baba Osoba is so conservative that the state would have remained so small; only able to pay salaries and buy transformers for villages. No one can forget when Obasanjo, an Ogun indigene pronounced at a state visit that- Osoba is the only Governor who said Ogun state did not need anything from the President/ Federal.

A decent frugal administrator, the ambition was just not there.

Ogun state moved so rapidly- longest road constructed in Nigeria(500km plus ahead of distant 2nd, Yar'adua of Kastina who constructed 380km+) , Most Industrialised (quoting Jonathan) with the conception of Sagamu Industrial layout, Sports revolution (4 stadia), 10 Tertiary institutions with luxurious transportation, all markets remodelled, all hospitals remodelled, etc

Then he conceived 4 Free Trade Zones, Refinery (That Amosun cancelled), Airport city (That Amosun canceled), Olokola Deep sea port (that Dangote has now applied to revive). Ogun state had overtaken Oyo Fiscal Economy, it was on the verge of trumping Lagos before Amosun entered with his vendetta of cancellations.

Daniel was so unbeatable that ALL political actors teamed up against him. We're talking of a man who controlled ALL political positions to the last councilor. Kashamu was the CASH backing, Obasanjo, the Presidential influence, Bankole, the legislative accomplice, not to mention the Kuyes, Olurins, etc. Every politician was against him. They vowed to spend 20 Billion, jail him and they prosecuted him to Supreme Court, enlisted Punch to propagate unending scandals.

People/ public began to run with the paid- propaganda that Daniel was corrupt, a murderer, failed governor, etc. He visited punch to make peace but he revealed Punch was trying to eat from both sides of the plate. He suffered from the same Tinubu- styled instigated Media persecution Jonathan too suffered.

Beyond the veil of Media/ Political persecution, Daniel can only be mentioned in the same breath with 2 politicians in the history of Nigeria- Obafemi Awolowo and Bola Tinubu.

Daniel is a model in the history of Nigerian Politics. He is a Professional in politics. A rated- top 10 wealthiest Nigerian businessman before venture into politics which made him much poorer. For Context- Dangote and IBB were the financiers of PDP, Daniel was the backbone of AD.

Talking about resourcefulness-
He would bid and construct Sagamu - Abeokuta express for a third of Julius Berger submitted quote for same road. He would use the laterite scraped from the road to construct Brick estate for displaced communities, he would get Ogun state welders to manufacture all street light poles, he would use Ogun state owned civil engineers to build Secretariat (guess how much N800m), stadia (guess how much- 1 Billion, same year Abuja stadium was built for N23B). Daniel's commissioners complained 3 of them shared the same room whenever they travelled, when I know Governors that had 10 extra rooms for protocol anytime they travelled.

The man proudly said I ran the state better than my company.

You see the Cargo airport (now taken up by Dapo), Olokola Deep seaport (one Dangote just applied for), the Refinery (the one Dangote started and relocated to Lagos after Amosun sacked him)- All of these were visions of Gbenga Daniel and if not for Amosun Bad belle, Ogun State would have dwarfed Lagos fiscally speaking.

Daniel was a Maverick, extremely resourceful and if anything at all, he was poorer, far poorer for venturing into politics.

The only evidence people outside Abeokuta had that there was a Governor in Amosun's regime was 1 flyover bridge + 1 uncompleted school. Nothing at all.

In Daniel's regime, tertiary institutions, stadia, roads, hospital upgrade,buses for tertiary institutions, employment, markets, Free trade zones went round.

The only reason anyone can dream of comparing Amosun to Daniel is- if the person lived in Abeokuta. Even in Abeokuta, The Government is operating in Daniel built Secretariat, The road into Abeokuta was dualised by Daniel, The CBD- Oke ilewo- Dualised by Daniel, Most structured Housing estate- built by Daniel, Tallest Office complex built by Daniel.

Even in Abeokuta, Daniel can match Amosun, outside Abeokuta, Amosun is not rated at all.
