Please Nairaland who knows what is this and how to treat it , I don’t know what it is cause this is my first time having it , I cut my hair on Monday and the Barber shaved off everything . When I went home it started itching badly and I took a bath based on normal level , then the next day I had all this at the back of my head ..please who knows what it is and how to make it go away (it’s been four days since I cut the hair )

The year is 1820 and a French orphan called Martin Fugate has just arrived in Troublesome Creek, a remote and sleepy settlement in eastern Kentucky. It is here he plans to start a family with his new wife, a red-haired woman called Elizabeth Smith, described as being as pale “as the mountain laurel that blooms every spring around the creek hollows”. The thing is Fugate isn't like any of the other men in the area. He has a rare genetic condition that has turned his skin a striking indigo blue.

The couple went on to have seven children and four of them, like their father, had blue skin.

Fast forward to the seventies and Benjamin Stacy has just been born. Stacy is the great-great-great-great-grandson of Martin Fugate and Elizabeth Smith – but by this point, the blue people of Kentucky are just a memory.

Yet, to the surprise of his parents and the hospital's staff, Stacy inherits the family's distinctive blue coloring.

This is because of a condition called methemoglobinemia, which causes methemoglobin levels in the red blood cells to rise above 1 percent. It turns the skin blue, the lips purple, and the blood a chocolate brown. Methemoglobinemia can be triggered by exposure to particular chemicals (benzocaine and xylocaine, for example), but in this case, it was inherited and the product of a faulty gene that most probably caused a deficiency in an enzyme called cytochrome-b5 methemoglobin reductase.

Fortunately for the Fugates and their kin, there are no physical health problems associated with their blue skin. In fact, most survived well into their eighties and nineties.

That isn't to say it wasn't a deep source of shame and psychological trauma. The family were embarrassed and discriminated against by their local community because of their skin color. This caused them to seek greater social isolation, which somewhat ironically, exacerbated the problem. This is because methemoglobinemia is, in almost all cases, a product of inbreeding.

By some strange coincidence, Fugate had married a woman with the same rare genetic trait he had. It was not immediately obvious because, unlike Fugate, Smith had only one abnormal gene. As it is recessive, her skin was white, not blue. However, it did mean there was an extremely high chance the couple would pass the condition onto their children.

Troublesome Creek was a small settlement with no roads or railways to connect it to the nearby towns. This meant the local girls and boys had an extremely limited supply of potential partners, a situation that unsurprisingly led to a lot of intermarrying. Fugate and Smith's son Zachariah, for example, ended up marrying his aunt.

The extraordinarily tight community acted as the perfect incubator for the blue-skinned disorder to thrive in.

Then Dr Madison Cawein arrived in the sixties. He had heard rumors of the blue people of Kentucky and recruited a nurse called Ruth Pendergrass to help him in his investigations. She had even been visited by a woman with dark blue skin herself when she was working at the county's health department.

The woman wanted a blood test, she recalls. "Her face and her fingernails were almost indigo blue," she said in an interview with Cathy Trost. "It like to scared me to death! She looked like she was having a heart attack.”

The pair began meeting members of the Fugate tribe, including a couple called Patrick and Rachel Ritchie, who Cawain described as "bluer'n hell". "They were really embarrassed about being blue," he added. "Patrick was all hunched down in the hall. Rachel was leaning against the wall. They wouldn't come into the waiting room. You could tell how much it bothered them to be blue."

After a few medical tests to make sure it wasn't heart disease, the doctor and the nurse created a family tree. He suspected methemoglobinemia but couldn't be sure what was causing it. There were several suspects, including abnormal hemoglobin formation and excessive vitamin K consumption, but blood tests eventually revealed the true culprit: The blue Fugates lacked the enzyme diaphorase.

Next, the cure. Cawain used a shot of methylene blue, a medication and dye, to turn Patrick and Rachel's blue skin pink.

They changed colors!" remembered Pendergrass. "It was really something exciting to see."

The effect was only temporary because the methylene blue promptly exits the body via the urinary tract. Knowing that it worked, however, Cawain left them a healthy supply of methylene blue tablets to take daily. The Fugates were no longer blue.

And what of the blue Fugates today?

Better connections and a more integrated world have meant that while the recessive gene may live on, it is far less likely to cause methemoglobin. As for Benjamin Stacy back in the 1970s, experts suspect he only had the one faulty gene – he grew out of his blue skin.

Aisha incurred the wrath of the 'cabal', a group of powerful and almost untouchable individuals around Buhari, after her Aide De Camp and other security details forced her husband's Personal Assistant, Saibu 'Tunde' Yusuf out of Aso Villa on Thursday after he refused to embark on a 14-day isolation period after a trip from Lagos.


The last has not been heard of the crisis in Aso Villa, Nigeria's seat of power in Abuja, as aides and close individuals to President Muhammadu Buhari launch a massive offensive against his wife and First Lady of the country, Aisha.

Yusuf, according to findings by SaharaReporters was thoroughly beaten by the Guards Commander of Mrs Buhari after he refused to quarantine upon returning from Lagos in company with five women.

He was said to have escaped into the apartment of Mamman Daura, Buhari's nephew, around the Villa and had remained there ever since.

Angered by the situation, it was gathered that Daura, Yusuf and other powerful individuals around Buhari had initiated several meetings to get back at Aisha, whom they consider to be blocking their plans in the Villa.

This is after Yusuf and Buhari's Chief Security Officer had ordered the arrest of Aisha's ADC and other security details.

A top Presidency source, who confirmed the latest development to SaharaReporters on Saturday, said, "The case has now escalated to a power tussle between remnants of the cabal including Mamman Daura, Isa Funtua, and Tunde Sabiu.

"Tunde was thoroughly beaten by the Guards Commander of Mrs Buhari after he refused to quarantine upon returning from Lagos with women. Tunde claims his trip was to visit his wife, daughter of NIMASA DG, who just delivered a baby. He reportedly secured special landing rights at the Lagos Airport from Hadi Sirika, Minister of Aviation.

"Upon being beaten, he scaled the fence and ended in the residence of Daura, who now lives on the periphery of the Aso Rock Villa having been driven out of the Glass House within the Villa by Aisha last year.

"Daura then summoned Isa Funtua to a meeting to discuss next steps on how to deal with Aisha's latest excesses.

"They contacted the IG of police, who initially declined, asking that the issue be handled by Villa officials, but he was warned to order the arrest of Aisha ADC, a formerly with Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello. The ADC was seen to be powerful because he knew the secrets of the cabal and was said to help Bello move cash to the cabal while he was there in Kogi. He also had a reputation for being ruthless as Bello's ADC.

"When Buhari was informed, he asked that an investigation be done but it is believed that Buhari is in a state of dementia and most times don't even remember the instructions passed out and the cabal around him capitalizes on this to commit atrocities and massive corruption.

"Tunde has remained in Mamman Daura's house refusing to enter isolation as directed by Aisha, while the ADC to Mrs Buhari and other aides remain in detention at the FCT command.
"Isa Funtua and Daura are asking the IG of Police to prosecute the ADC for some murders he reportedly carried out in Kogi as ADC to Yahaya Bello as a way of getting rid of him.

"Meanwhile, another scandal is brewing around Tunde, he was illegally recruited into the National Intelligence Agency but did not attend the compulsory training for cadets. He is looking into a future where he can be sent out of Nigeria as soon as Buhari's regime is over as a way of covering up his massive wealth.

"Also, Daura cannot bear having Yusuf out of the Villa for even one week because of how he protects his numerous deals."

Though Mrs Bihari had called on the Inspector-General of Police to release her security details, they remain in custody till this time.

The Presidency has accused the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which was described as "self-proclaimed Jews", of using Christianity to wage war against the Nigerian state.



In the statement released by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and publicity Garba Shehu, IPOB was accused of attempting to drive a wedge between the Nigerian government and its US and UK/European allies.



The Presidency also alleged that there is available evidence to show that the proscribed group is being funded with a monthly spending of $85,000 USD since October 2019, with no records of the source of the largesse.

IPOB, SELF-PROCLAIMED JEWS, USING CHRISTIANITY TO WAGE WAR AGAINST THE NIGERIAN STATE

The Presidency wishes to draw the attention of all citizens and the international community to a most misleading campaign spearheaded by the so-called Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) using false allegations of persecution of Christians against the Nigerian State.

A very deep and wide investigation by an agency of the Nigerian government, working with international partners have made us become aware that there are two, interconnected campaigns being run concurrently by the IPOB in this regard.

Both are using the cover of Christianity – and calling for a US Special Envoy to be appointed to stop the “genocide” of Christians in Nigeria. But the real purpose is to drive a wedge between the Nigeria government and its US and UK/European allies.

IPOB leadership of course self-proclaims as “Jewish,” a position not shared by the generality of the members.

For reasons of convenience, he claims to have an interest in the welfare of Christians – but this is a ruse: the case for independence, the leader believes, is strengthened by “proving” the government of Nigeria is “autocratic”, engaged in a “silent slaughter” of their own citizens along religion and ethnic lines – and that therefore the only viable option for the unique religious and ethnic minority is a sovereign Biafra separate from Nigeria.

Nigerians and the international community are advised to be wary of this divisive campaign, which available evidence shows is being funded with a monthly spending of $85,000 USD since October 2019, with no records of the source of this largesse.

The campaign consists of producing articles in the names of the alleged Christian NGOs’ leaders (of campaign groups created at the time this PR contract with a US lobbying firm was signed) and letters to and from members of Congress to the White House.

Unfortunately, some Members of Congress have clearly been persuaded there is indeed a “Christian persecution” underway in Nigeria – and do so quoting the campaign – and they are known to be taking up the case directly with the White House to appoint the special envoy.

The American charity secured a meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and has made presentations to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom.

There is also a UK and European angle of the Campaign, which is more opaque than its US sister campaign – given there is less legal requirement for public filings – but what is known of this at the moment is that their Budget is sufficient to hire four PR firms in the UK, Belgium, France and the US (the latter additional to the above).

They have founded an “NGO/Charity” and a linked web-based campaign named “Stop the Silent Slaughter” which is well designed and complete with video “evidence”-completely concocted.

Members of the alleged Christian NGO have had multiple Op-Ed articles in conservative news websites promulgating their message of a “Christian Genocide”. Some of those articles have also been used as “evidence” in the sister US campaign.

Two of those conservative news websites were co-founded by the owner of the UK PR firm they have hired to generate their publicity as well as an OP-Ed article in the name of a British MP who may have been convinced by their campaign under false pretences.

They have secured additional coverage in France, EU and Germany.

They secured a MPs debate on the “Christian Genocide” in the House of Commons in which staff member of the UK PR was referenced as the “private secretary” to the leader of the UK-based Charity.

It is clear from all of the above that the IPOB’s extraordinarily and dubiously well-funded campaign in the US and UK/Europe is misusing the issue of the welfare of Christians purely to further their own political ends, and it seeks to damage inter-religious dialogue in Nigeria as well as to damage the international reputation of Nigeria.

Nigerians and the international community are hereby advised to ignore this campaign as they have disregarded similar past campaigns originated by this group which has been designated as a terrorist organisation by the Nigerian State.

I remember around mid last year wen I first heard this news, my whole family was in panic. Then in February this year when they left(just my parents. My aunts, uncle and cousins left in November) all the airport officials were shocked as to how they are migrating at this time. I had to settle extra at almost every point cos all we kept hearing was 'this Visa na gold, how una take do am?' Infact the very week they travelled was the same week Trump banned some countries including Nigeria from immigration. That is still the biggest miracle I've seen in years.

What started as a catastrophe for China is shaping up to be a moment of strategic opportunity, a rare turning point in the flow of history. Suddenly, the protests in Hong Kong, carrying a mortal threat to political stability in the mainland, became a physical impossibility. More important, the pandemic set in motion a global competition, to contain the virus, for which China and the Chinese Communist Party seem uniquely prepared.

As the virus spread to the whole world, it became apparent that Western societies — Beijing’s true rivals — did not have the ability to quickly organize every citizen around a single goal. As opposed to China, which remains to a large extent a revolutionary society, their political systems were built for normal times. Chinese society is a mobilized army, which can quickly drop everything else and march in one direction.

Mao once said, “Everything under heaven is in utter chaos, the situation is excellent.” And so it seems at present, as seen from Beijing. Chinese diplomats stationed all over the world spend their time raising the stakes to a dangerous level. Following instructions from the very top, they have taken to the media to issue a challenge to America, to point out its failure, and to compare the chaos in American cities and hospitals with what they see as a singular success in stopping the epidemic in China.

Several commentators have suggested that China may be winning the coronavirus battle by stepping forward in providing medical help to affected countries, mostly in Europe, at a time when the United States is consumed with its own difficulties. This misses the point.

The cases have been multiplying where the medical equipment provided by Chinese companies and even the Chinese state turned out to be faulty, provoking justified ire in, for example, Spain, the Netherlands, and Turkey. Moreover, medical help is a normal occurrence in a crisis. China has done nothing different, except perhaps in the clumsy way it publicizes those efforts.

Forget about “mask diplomacy.” It is no more than a distraction. There are other ways for China to use the coronavirus pandemic to upturn the existing global order. I see three main levers.

The first one is the direct comparison between the situation in China and elsewhere. The numbers of cases and fatalities provided by Chinese authorities almost certainly misrepresent the real figures by more than an order of magnitude, but the fact remains that a semblance of normalcy was achieved in a small period of time. If the United States fails to do the same, its prestige will suffer a severe blow. People all over the world will quickly change their perceptions about relative power and capacity.

The second lever resides with industrial value chains. Last month General Motors, Ford, and Fiat Chrysler closed all their automotive production plants across the United States and Canada. Other sectors have followed. In the meantime, China contained the worst of the pandemic to one province, allowing economic activity to quickly resume elsewhere. The most recent data show renewed activity in the flow of goods across the country, as well as at ports worldwide that do business with China. If the freeze in Europe and America continues for much longer, Chinese companies will be able to dramatically expand market share and replace Western-led value chains. Just yesterday Chinese authorities announced that manufacturing activity expanded in March, defying expectations of a contraction. In February the official Purchasing Managers’ Index hit a record low of 35.7. It bounced back to 52.0 in March. Prepare for a worldwide wave of Chinese acquisitions at knockdown prices.

Finally, in a more extreme scenario, important countries could experience the kind of economic shock that leads to widespread social and political collapse. At that point, China would have a unique opportunity to step in, provide aid, and refashion these countries in its image. It would look like a repeat of the Marshall Plan and the beginning of the American world order after the ravages of World War II. Indonesia, South Asia, and even Russia might be of special interest in such a scenario.

We knew that a generalized race or competition between alternative geopolitical models had started, but it was never clear what the background for such a competition would be. If the clash took place within the existing global trade and financial system, which was of course built according to Western rules and principles, the United States was confident the battle could be decisively won. But what if it took place on neutral ground? What if it took place in a kind of neutral landscape, a state of nature with few or no rules, against a chaotic and quickly evolving background? The outcome would become considerably more uncertain.

To put it more bluntly: There was always an argument that the existing world order cannot change because only a momentous war has done that in the past and world wars have become impossible. But in pandemics — and soon in climate change — we may have found two functional equivalents of war.
