Please forum I have been looking for an opportunity to ask this question for long. Those who know her better should please help me with simple and object answer. I have so many times made attempt to research on her but with no useful results. Is Mrs. Laurreta Onochie, the current special assistant to President on social media an Igbo woman? Or is she merely married to an Igbo or just bearing an Igbo name. Am seriously battling with picture of doubt. Over the years, some of her online publications look so antithetical to the trait of a typical Igbo mother bearing in mind she is within the precinct of a paid appointment and she is obliged to serve her master well. The peak of it all was her inhuman posts during the IPOB vs military saga a couple of months ago. While to certain extent the IPOBS might deserve blame for certain postures, this woman never took cognisance of extra-judicial killings and torture displayed by the millitary. She kept mute in that respect.I kept wondering the extent hypocrisy and tokenism went, in enshrouding the sight of Motherhood. At this moment, it is blowing in the sky that Nigerians are undergoing gargantuan pangs and stress owing to the pandemic fuel scarcity and cases of non dispensation of cash by ATMs during this Yuletide. Behold, what I saw this afternoon in Nairaland was this woman's irrelevant piece talking about something that looks like 'BEFORE INDISCIPLINE....... and rest of them; perhaps, showcasing once more the indifference and hypocrisy rife with this present government. I was very disappointed Honestly, despite bearing an Igbo surname my instinct is still telling me somthing else. IS SHE A FULL BLOODED IGBO WOMAN? OR SOMETHING NEAR. I will not he be proud of her if I discover so .Infact, l may be forced to change ethnicity) |

The Catholic Church has shared its position on the controversial issue of payment of tithe raging in the country. Speaking to Punch on the matter, the Very Rev. Msgr. Gabriel Osu, the director of Catholic Communication and the Apostleship of Prayer League of Sacred Heart of Jesus, pointed out that tithing was not a must and was purely voluntary in the Catholic church. The Priest said in the Catholic church, members are not compelled to pay the tithe. He said, “The first mention of a tithe in the Bible occurs in Genesis when Melchizedek, a king and a ‘priest of God Most High,’ offered a sacrifice of bread and wine in thanksgiving for Abraham’s victory over several enemy kings. “As an offering to God, Abraham gave Melchizedek ‘a tenth of everything.’ (See Genesis 14.) In the Old Testament, the tenth of one’s bounty was customarily given to the priests in their service to God. The Torah (the law of God as revealed to Moses) prescribes the giving of tithes. “A person offered to God, or ‘tithed,’ one-tenth of the harvest of the grain of the fields or the produce of fruit of the trees, one-tenth of new pressed wine and oil, and every firstborn animal of herd or flock (Leviticus 23 30-33. The Bible book of Numbers also records how God prescribed that the Levites, the priestly class of the Jewish people, were entrusted with these tithes: (Number 18:21-24). Therefore, these tithes were contributions offered to the Lord and distributed to the Levites for their support. “Payment of tithe, like other donations made in the Catholic Church, is not obligatory. This means that members are not compelled to pay the tithe. It is purely voluntary. Also, Catholics are under no obligation to pay a certain percentage of their income to the church as a tithe. “In the early history of our church, the priests depended upon the generous support of congregations for their sustenance. This custom was based on the New Testament instruction: Jesus taught the apostles to depend upon charity when He sent them on a mission (see Matthew 10:10). St. Paul also instructed the early Church community to provide for the needs of their priests (I Corinthians 9:13). “As cited in the Catechism (No. 2043), the precepts of the church maintain that each person has the duty to support the material needs of the church. Of course, a person fulfils this obligation according to his abilities. “The Christian faithful are obliged to assist with the needs of the Church so that the Church has what is necessary for divine worship, for apostolic works and works of charity, and for the decent sustenance of ministers. “They are also obliged to promote social justice and, be mindful of the precept of the Lord, to assist the poor from their own resources.” |
Against the general belief across the globe that the Catholic Church is one of the richest churches in the world, Archbishop of Kaduna Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Matthew Man-oso Ndagoso has said it was a wrong impression. Bishop Ndagoso said if the Catholic is so rich as many people are claiming, its leaders would have owned private jets all over the country like other church leaders are doing. According to Sunday Sun, he pointed out that many people, including some Catholic faithful, even went to the extent of believing that the Pope has a mint where he prints American dollars and distributes to catholic dioceses around the world. The cleric who spoke at a dinner c*m formal commissioning ceremony of a newly built multi-purpose secretariat for Kaduna Diocese, said the Catholic leadership is prudent at managing meagre resources. He said some people even have the erroneous impression that the head of the Catholic church, Pope has a mint from where he distributes dollars to dioceses all over the world. Bishop Ndagoso restated that the catholic leadership does not engage in wasteful spending, but proper management of its resources to the envy of the world. “Many people in our country, including Catholics, are under the wrong impression that the Catholic Church is very rich. “If we are rich we would have bought fleets of jets like any other church, but we are not. “Some even think that the Pope has a mint in the Vatican where he prints American dollars and the Euro which he distributes to catholic dioceses around the world. “If anything, what makes our church look rich is the ability to properly manage scarce resources with prudence and transparency. “This is why with so little, the church has always pursued goals that benefit humanity in general regardless of creed and social status through schools, hospitals and other social services. “It is for the same reason that as a church we always aspire to work in close collaboration with the state and its agencies that seek to improve the human condition like I said at the ground breaking ceremony of this project eight and half years ago. “Be that as it may, I wish to reiterate that our hands of collaboration are stretched out to the government, civil society groups and non government organisations for the common good of our people, especially in the areas of the provision of qualitative and functional education, health care and social services. “In this vein, I wish to appeal to Kaduna State government to borrow a leaf from other state governments especially those in the southern and Middle Belt of our country and return our schools that were taken away from us without compensation as a matter of justice so that the church and the state can resume collaboration in the common service of our people”.
