WHEN TWO DIFFERENT WORLDS COLLIDE Please, kindly visit my blog at www.archudofasnuances. To read more of my work, and show some love. Have a good read. I’ll appreciate your thoughts. * * * * * * * * * * She stared at her coffee. It had already gone cold. She looked out the window of the café, at cars cruising past. This café had been their rendezvous point for their dates, for ten years. But now, she was alone, separated from her husband, Tay. Their love had gone stale. She almost could not understand how they had spiraled from lovers, to complete strangers, in just under a year. She looked at her coffee again. She usually liked it black. It’s rich smell had always brought to her, a sense of calm, but this time it didn’t. Her mind wandered back and forth, like a ping-pong game, on how she would tell him. They has been separated for two months now. She leaned back in the chair, and went back in time. Adaobi and Timi had been sweethearts since their sophomore year in UNN. Timilehin was the calm, laconic one. She, Adaobi, on the other hand, was hip, and outspoken. She was slim, with curves in the right places. She had caramel complexion, and a cherubic face to sum up her breathtaking beauty. She had become used to rejecting advances from male students, lecturers, high ranking university staff, and even security workers! They had first met at the NSLT building, after CHM 201 lectures, on a studgy afternoon. She tripped and fell, while coming down the stairs. Timi, reflexively stretched and caught her, mid air. He helped her to her feet. She faced him, and suddenly became shy. “Oh, Thank you.” A little fire had been ignited, deep down. “Oh, it’s nothing. You’re welcome ” He replied. She just stood there, her lips twitching erratically at the corners. He was taller than her, and dark skinned. He was as tall as he was thin, had small eyes, and sported a low cut. His jaws, too, we’re clean shaven. He had an aura of calmness around him – like someone who took life easily. “I’m Adaobi.” She blurted out. “My name is Timi Adeoye.” He remained calm. And for a split second, she resented him for his calmness. She had expected him to be overly enthusiastic – like the way other men were, when talking to her, trying too hard to impress her. “Oh, I’ll just call you Tay, if you won’t mind.” She replied, almost automatically, her cheeks flushed. She felt awkward. She was used to being hit on, not the other way around. But here she was, transfixed to the spot, trying to make little talk with a guy she’d just met. “oh, I don’t. I actually like the way it sounds. Tay.” She was enchanted by his calmness, his serene demeanour, by the shade of pink on his lower lip, that glowed when he talked. “well, I was just going to get an ice cream and head to freedom square to chill out. Mind joining me?” she felt strange. Did she just ask a guy out? Wowzers! “What are we going to be doing at freedom Square?” “Well, we’ll just have to find out, then eh?” And find out, they did. They talked till night fell, exchanged phone numbers, and called each other at the slightest excuse. They both felt like high school students. Both of them graduated with Second Class Upper Honours. She, in Microbiology, He, in Industrial Chemistry. Both got employed right after they graduated, and got married, after two years, much to the expectation of everyone. They had two beautiful kids together, A boy and a girl. Their lives seemed like a Disney fairy tale, for nine years, until… Well, until things fell apart. Meaningless arguments that snowballed into full blown quarrels. They stopped doing things for each other. Stopped flirting, stopped caring, stopped talking, and eventually stopped living together. Their friends were baffled, their parents too, even both of them. The love they had shared had been so pristine, so unspoiled, so unique. Now, here she was, thinking of how best to say “I want a divorce” without incurring collateral damage — so to speak. Of course she had to think about their children; and she was already 32. “Ma’am, you need anything else? “ The waiter jolted her out of her reverie. ” No” She paid for her coffee and left. She kept thinking about how Timi would react to her request for divorce, as she got into her car. Her mind was made up, she sighed finally. “I’m just going to do this and get it over with” she said as she drove to Timi’s flat at Hillview Street. * * * * * * * * * * Her fingers trembled as she tapped the knocker on the front door. “Tay, I need to talk to you.” Her plan had been to tell him that she wanted a divorce, as soon as she saw him. She didn’t understand, however, why she had said that instead. “You called me Tay.” He responded, calm — and surprised. She opened her mouth, and closed it. She just realized she had not called him Tay, since their problems started, almost a year ago. She did not know when she let “Tay” slip. She blushed, visibly embarrassed. She stared at him. He had become thinner, his face looked drained as he stared back at her, wistfully, like a child would, at a toy he could not have. She stood there for what seemed like eternity, willing the words to come out: “I want a divorce.” But they did not. It seemed as though her throat had closed up. They stared at each other, as seconds rolled into minutes. They both remained there for about half an hour, motionless, as memories came rushing back: of the good old days, of what they had shared, of what they had lost. Resolve evanesced, strength ebbed from her. She still loved him, and knew that he loved her as much. She continued staring at him, and for a second, felt he might not want back in. “I love you, Tay”, she found her voice. Those heavenly words. Adaobi’s eyelashes fluttered, her eyes stung with tears. Timi stood there, unflinching. She was saying the things he wanted to hear. He desperately wanted her back. But he didn’t say anything. He just stood there. Everything was calm, except for Demi Lovato’s In Case, playing softly on the home theatre system, from inside the house. The whole world stood still as he finally said these words, with tears in his eyes. “Till death do us part. “ Amadieabasi Udofa (ArchFreelancer) is a student of the Department of Biochemistry, University of Nigeria Nsukka. Please I'm new here. How do I gain entry into the contest for this month? |
I vote vivly |
LaconicINC:A phone's screen is ten times less likely to crack or break if it falls face down. If it falls on its sides, cornersor edges, then that's when there should be cause for alarm. It all boils down to pressure distribution. It's simple physics. |
ROSSIKE:Like a Tecno phone. |
BlueMagic2:Shey you no know say that stadium go create plenty job? Shey Sports no be sector of economy? Shey no be people like you dey complain of deteriorating infrastructure? Smh. Nto Akwa Ibom Isong o! |
bosun11:How my post take funny na ![]() |
Hot plate things, these people Don loko. Then never solve #Zero heating problem finish . . Writing on the wall. |
bosun11:Oga, Google the keywords: HTC ONE m8 trusted reviews Or HTC ONE M8 The verge. Those two sites are reputable internationally acclaimed gadget reviewers Click the corresponding results . You should get full, hands on unbiased reviews of the device. |
Mizzzbeee:Lol, I agree with you on the hot day hot phone stuff. The day I was multitasking GTA san andreas and Facebook, BBM, and Whatsapp, on 3G, while charging the phone for six hours. My phone e reach 74°C. Mehn, I chook fone inside freezer. |
Ahmadjr:Do well to read my review, too. The second mention on this page. Then make the choice. |
REX106:ME DE CELEBRATE MY ZERO TWO MONTHS + ANNIVERSARY OH. . ALL THE COMPLAINTS BY OTHER NL users. My Zerobucci Don jump an pass. . Two months in review. . Camera is Above average. (really good, but could be better) It's Gorilla screen but it's not Gorilla 3.(reason: Gorilla screens are resistant but eventually scratch. When they do, the Gorilla nature hides the scratches as much as possible. You only notice the scratches if you look really close. Google it if you're in doubt. That has been the case with my device) only Sapphire glass is damage resistant. It was used in Huawei Ascend p7. . The video and audio is awesome. . Screen = awesome, you can still read clearly from 80° tilt. . Processor = lags seldomly but overall performance is great. Gpu : smooth. I play HD videos and games flawlessly. Hi rez Games load faster too. Ram = mine is 1 gb ram version, so it's not that wonderful. My phone Don fall for tiles (slippery bathroom tiles included) four times. No story to burn chest. I'm always careful changing Sims (done that about four times) so there's no story. The phone dey hot well well if you dey use 3G or HD video while charging. Lastly, I agree with The quoted post. THE BATTERY DOES IMPROVE OVERTIME. i comfortably go through a day with moderate use with some juice to spare. My only person with the phone is the music player that crashes after every song!! Any solution to that? I'll be really grateful. |
prezelThomas:Go to page one. You'll see people introducing themselves. What's wrong with my grammar? |
I'm Nineteen on November 28. Shey I still be teen? . I school at University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Biochemistry 200L. . Bleshh how far na? . I Don see some cute Chicas here sha. And some clueless attention seekers too too. |
My beef with the phone is that the music player freezes after every bleeping song!! |
LordFME:Lol, the battery performance is erratic. It depletes at the speed of light, from 100 - 80 and thereafter becomes relatively stable. . If the weather is hot, You'll not enjoy the phone. But, I've used 22% for roughly 2 hours on a cold day before. . Yah, the phone can boil water at times. . . What annoys me most is the stock music player. It freezes after every two songs!! Sometimes, after every song! . Apart from that, the phone is sweet. The camera is its wow factor. It's not great but it's really good. I don't get that whitish effect. I think it's due to if the phone is white . Mine is black. |
LordFME:This was the first thing I did when I got the phone. Yes it helps, but, the battery is still the phone's Achilles heel! |
I use a black infinix zero, I don't get any whitish whatchamacallit. . The flash works fine at night, no white effects. The only thing is that, that flash too bright, I wouldn't advice taking selfies in darkness, the flash is too bright (wonder if that can be fixed, it's hardware, so there's probably no hope, update-wise) . . My Zero's battery Don dey rugged small small. I've used it from 100%-65% In three hours, which is fair compared to when I bought it new. . . I've played HD video at 1080p and played HD games for four hours with Battery doctor, before the phone gassed out. I'm thinking of getting mayorall pb when I have money. . . That flip case cost of. 2k much sha. . And yes, I've got 74°C before while playing GTA SanAndreas and charging simultaneously. Mehn, phone come dey hot so tey I no fit hold am again. I quickly Chook the phone inside freezer for 10 minutes. I been fear oh! . It's still surprising that the battery didn't blow up! I mean, clean master showed me 74°C . I'm not exaggerating, the hotness issue is alarming. I get an average of 52% on heavy usage. . . . About the Gorilla glass, mine scratches. Really day I bought it, I used a broken mirror - and the scar is till there, in the center of the screen. Knife didn't scratch it, keys didn't scratch it, but the edge of the broken mirror did ( I guess it's because it's also glass). However, ever since, the phone has picked up a few scratches here and there, but they're relatively inconspicuous - unless you look closer. (which is how a Gorilla glass is supposed to behave). Yeah, you read correctly, Gorilla glass does scratch - eventually! . My phone has fallen several times, several times, my heart jumped into my anus ! But Thank God! E no break. Recently it fell off toilet water closet(to press phone while dumping waste *winks* dey sweet oh) bounced on the sit and onto the tiled floor, I Don already visualize Carlcare office, but as I pick am, behold the phone remained pristine! |
splendinho:. . . Bros, can you tweak an imei for me, please? |
