Politics › François Hollande: French President Pledges Weapons, Intelligence To Nigeria. by aresa(op): 8:19pm On Sep 15, 2015 |
https://www.bellanaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Buhari-France-September-2015-9.jpgFrench President François Hollande has pledged that his administration will assist the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) with intelligence gathering and equipment to check the activities of insurgents in Nigeria and beyond.
Hollande announced this on Monday at the Elsee Palace in Paris after a closed door bilateral meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, who is on a three-day official visit to France. The French President, who was addressing a joint news conference, said that his government was concerned about the increasing spate of insecurity in Nigeria and the entire West Africa sub-region. According to him, his administration is ready to render support and assistance to Nigeria to enable the country to tackle insurgency and all forms of extremism in the country. He said himself and President Buhari discussed new strategies of partnership that would enable Nigeria and its neighboring countries of Cameroun, Chad, Niger and Benin Republic, through the joint action of the MJTF, to fight the insurgency and restore peace. President Hollande explained that as an intervention approach to assist in the fight against terrorism, France last year, hosted a Regional Summit on Security in Paris, which brought together the neighboring countries to chart the way forward. "We provide all of the support to the countries in the region which are affected by this cult and in Nigeria, we want to provide support and solidarity,’’ he added. He thanked President Buhari for his recent actions such as the movement of the military command centre to Maiduguri, which he said, had helped tremendously in weakening the insurgents. According to Hollande, France has concluded arrangements to invest a total of €130million in the development of infrastructure in Nigeria for rebuilding of roads, provision of electricity and water supply. He noted that in spite of the fall in the price of crude oil in the international market, which had affected Nigerian expected revenue, the country's economy still remained strong. "The Nigerian economy remains strong so, France wants to be doing business in the country.’’ he said Hollande said that France intended to increase the visibility of its investors more in Nigeria. In his remarks, President Buhari thanked the French president for his administration's interest to assist Nigeria. He expressed the readiness of his administration to partner with France for the overall development of both countries. President Buhari noted that with commitment from France, Nigeria's next shopping list regarding support would move to other members of the G7. "We have to depend on France and the other G7 countries for support to fight piracy,’’ he said. "Our next shopping list is going to G7 in terms of intelligence and training. "Another problem is the problem in the Gulf of Guinea, from Senegal to Angola; that area is endowed with resources like petroleum and other minerals but surrounded by piracy and theft. "We are going to depend on France and G7 countries to flush these criminals out of the region.’’ On Nigeria’s problems, President Buhari lamented that more than 67 per cent of youths, most of them under their youthful age, were unemployed. "We are finding best way in agriculture and mining to address this challenge before sophisticated infrastructure and security are provided. "We want to make sure we feed ourselves and provide security before other things are also tackled. http://pulse.ng/local/francois-hollande-french-president-pledges-weapons-intelligence-to-nigeria-in-b-haram-fight-id4168279.html |

TonyeBarcanista: The Challenges of 2013 that's what you are lifting? Those issues were settles in the early part of 2014. Like I said, GEJ owed NO Civil servant.
The record is there..... You said workers salaries under GEJ were paid when due...Right? Were federal workers paid when due according to the article I posted? No Was GEJ not the president of Nigeria in 2013? Yes he was.. The key word here according to you remains When due so what's the meaning of your absurd and unintelligent nonsense about settled? Or you just don't know the meaning of when due? and the rubbish that comes out of your own mouth? Like I said, you are very unintelligent, you are very empty and shallow... |

AZeD1: Safely kept under GEJ? Seriously? How was it stolen in the first place if it was safe under GEJ?
Just so you know, when they are doing the FG's account the money would appear in the September column with Buhari as president. From May 29th 2015, Every thing that happens in Nigeria (good or bad) would be attributed to Buhari. Under GEJ, they don't transfer taxpayers money into the federal account/s, they hid and sit on it and eventually pocket it. This unintelligent OP is telling us that a FED agency's safe is the best and safest place to keep taxpayers money instead of constitutionally mandated federal account. Nigeria lost billions because of the same hiding and stealing federal money con game perpetrated by agencies like the NNPC. Every kobo today is landing federal account, thank God for PMB and fear of kirikiri. This mentally crooked OP is just like the same crooked, corrupt and worthless people Nigerians rejected and kicked out of office last May. |

TonyeBarcanista: Under GEJ ALL workers were paid as at when due. PMB has done NOTHING positive. Federal Government workers have demanded payment of their December salary and arrears outstanding since July immediately or face industrial actions.
The workers under the auspices of Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) expressed shock that thousands of federal civil servants were not paid their December salary and arrears since July.
ASCSN in a statement by its Secretary General, Alade Bashir Lawal, said, “It is disheartening that thousands of civil servants employed by the Federal Government were not paid their December 2013 salary and arrears since July, and so these workers and their families spent the Christmas under the pain and pang of hunger.
“What is also clear is that these workers, their children and other dependants will also celebrate the New Year in sadness,” he regretted.
While emphasising that it would not stand by and watch the salary of civil servants being looted as had been the case with the Pension Funds, the union requested “President Goodluck Jonathan to step in and order the Finance Minister to pay civil servants their salary without further delay and put necessary machinery in place to ensure that such embarrassing situation would no longer repeat itself”.
ASCSN, therefore, call on the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Civil Society Groups, The Patriot, the Nigeria Bar Association, and prominent individuals to prevail on the Federal Government to pay civil servants their salary as and when due so as to avert disruption of services in the public service few days after the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) was resolved.
“ASCSN also call on the Honourable Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to speak out and tell Nigerians why the Federal Government could no longer pay salary to its employees as and when due,” the union said.
It added that it has become necessary for the Finance Minister “to address the nation on the embarrassing situation because she had continued to say that the country was not broke”. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2013/12/federal-workers-threaten-strike-unpaid-six-months-salaries/Like I said, you are unintelligent, you are a crooked and deceptive human being, you are a disgraced and discredited loser and grossly untrustworthy.. |

[s] TonyeBarcanista: 'I didn't leave Nairaland forum because of bully-wanabes'
Nairaland is a community that has provided me the platform to share my thought on issues and advocate for better governance of our country. I left Nairaland for some reasons; chief of which was to re-define myself, do some retrospection and extend my frontiers to other social networks (Facebook and Twitter). Unfortunately, I suffered a major setback on Facebook courtesy some pained APC fans. On twitter I am doing just fine. Another reason was an issue I raised to my friend and Founder/Admin of NL which in his own wisdom was ignored.
Before leaving Nairaland, I first sought advice and opinion from some close friends. Virtually ALL of them objected to my exit. After I left, some people privately inquired to know why I left and moved for my comeback, I turned down their request. Nevertheless, they still showed me unwavering support. However, I realised that though my exit offered me the time and privilege to establish myself on other fronts, it was clearly not accepted by the people that have always stood by me and other members of the patriotic Wailing family here on NL. As a prospective public servant, I live for the society and not for myself. On this note, I have decided to rescind my earlier decision and return to Nairaland(my primary e-constituency).
Though back to NL, I shall continue to tweet on my twitter handle and post on my FB page. I wish that my return do not NL may spark controversy because I am focused on promoting good governance for the good of Nigerians which Buhari led government continue to neglect. I shall not be distracted.
My sincere apology to all those that felt let-down by my earlier decision to quit. I also apologise to the PDP family that felt abandoned by my earlier decision. To those that continued to support me even in my absence, MAY God Almighty bless you RICHLY. God Knows that I shall forever remain indebted to you.
I'm ending this piece by reiterating my allegiance to the patriotic aspiration of Nigerians and the Peoples Democratic Party.
May God Bless Us All [/s] Not surprised and not choked to see you return simply because like I qualify you always, you are a coward, you are a disgraced, discredited and unintelligent loser with zero life beyond NL. Apart from the fact that you are a loser, political prostitute and untrustworthy human being means you are irrelevant and inconsequential in any Nigerian political discuss or arena.. Even your posts and threads are thoughtless, irrational, non factual and unnecessarily deceptive. You are a sad disgrace to the word opposition which you really are not anyway... |

Mrs Isabel Knauf, made the disclosure when the German Ambassador, Mr Michael Zenner, led a group of German diplomats and investors on a courtesy visit to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode at Ikeja.
Knauf solicited the support of the governor toward locating a 70 million dollars (N14 billion) building and construction tools manufacturing company in Lagos.
She said that the preference for Lagos was informed by its proximity to ports, availability of gas pipeline and a ready market.
"We are looking to invest and build a factory here and we want your support. We have been to Lekki Sea Port and want to proceed on investing straight off.
"I wish to express our interest in investing about 70 million US dollars in construction tools factory in Lagos for the first stage,” Knauf said.
Also speaking, Zenner, canvassed for increased presence of German businesses in Lagos and improved bilateral trade relations with the state government.
"We are here to introduce and express our interest in business and economic cooperation, especially in food processing and building materials.
"A lot of allied companies in Germany also wish to join hands in the investment drive of the governor,'' the Ambassador said.
In his remarks, Gov. Ambode described Lagos as the economic hub of Nigeria and 5th largest economy in Africa, thereby making it investors’ first choice of destination in Nigeria.
He said his administration was ready to receive the German investors as well as activate a state-sister relationship with the city of Hamburg to further boost cooperation.
"As the economic hub of the country, we pride ourselves as the largest of the nation’s economy with the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of $131billion.
"For any German company that wants to do business in Nigeria, Lagos is your best bet. ‘’We are committed to the rule of law and we assure you of a safer and secured environment.
“I also want to let you know that you are the first Ambassador to come out openly that you want to come and start business immediately.
"With your coming, investors are beginning to have confidence in our quest to build an investor-friendly environment,’’ he said.
