[s] nsyforreal: oga. please come to akwa ibom state and see for yourself.no need to argue.when you see what he did you can now judge.
Am based in Lagos and am from akwa ibom state.Akpabio is superb.
am not here to compare but please visit akwa ibom state and you will be shocked.
all the local government, roads are superb.airport,e library ,ibom tropicana entertainment center, ibom hotel and golf resort center, ibom specialist hospital, four point hotel ikot ekpene, uyo theme park etc.
roads are solid.all projects executed by Julius berger.
I tell you we are proud to be from akwa ibom.
fashola tried too.
not here to compare but give it to akpabio .he is am achiever. [/s] I don't have to visit any state to find out what the governor did in terms of projects and development because there is something called budgets and development plan where the state lists it's projects based on what they budget for. We know exactly the numbers of projects he awarded and completed. You can not make up what's not on the books. Apart from the few roads and flyover, all he completed are 1 library, 1 cinema, 1 mall, 1 football field and 1 hospital that's still not completed because they still have construction cranes at the site, all this is leaving office wuruwuru magic. Governors with smaller budgets completed dozens on projects while akpabio's completed projects are less than meager and miserable 6. |

[s] ShakurM: This woman is truly a role model to follow. I don't know why Nigerians admire miracle workers, she came on board in 2011, 4 years approximately and she's been managing the affairs of this great nation which we all know is a challenging period of huge political, economic and security challenges; a period during which citizens look on to their governments in exasperation and disappointment. In the midst of all these, Ngozi has remained calm, focused and even more determined to help fix her fatherland.. So if she's a recipient of an international award of which she didn't give herself, you should know she deserved it. Stop the hate, rather celebrate her.
- She did continue in the role of Finance minister and managed the enviable feat of negotiating Nigeria's exit from the Paris Club, the first African country ever to achieve this
- first female federal finance minister of Nigeria
- Her financial and economic achievements have been widely acknowledged but I would like to celebrate a part of her that did not often get acknowledged- her simplicity. In Nigeria where flamboyance is the order of the day, Ngozi's consistent dressing in simple ankara cloth often accessorized with simple beads or coconut shell jewellery sent a powerful message to the Nigerian public. She showed that you did not have to be swathed in yards of lace, silk or satin and draped in tonnes of gold to be an effective or powerful woman. Her blunt speaking and sharp mind made her an alternative role model for young Nigerian women everywhere and earned her the respect of the international community
- Her exceptional achievements have received global recognition, some of which include
· Top 100 most inspiring people delivering for girls and women, Women Deliver, 2011
· The Bishop John T. Walker Distinguished Humanitarian Service Award, Africare, 2010
· This Day Award of 50 Most Notable Nigerians who have contributed most to 50 years of Nigerian Development, 2010
· Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, Amherst College, USA, May 2008
· Conde Nast International Business Intelligence Magazine Portfolio as one of 73 "Brilliant" business influencers in the world, 2008
· Honorary Doctorate of Letters, Trinity College, University of Dublin, Ireland, December 2007
· Honorary Doctorate of Laws, Colby College, USA, May 2007
· Honorary Doctorate of Laws, Brown University, USA, May 2006
· Forbes Magazine 100 Most Powerful Women in the world, 2006
Quote me with facts not what you feel like [/s] Billions of dollars still unaccounted under her watch. The Nigerian economy is in shambles under her watch. The Naira jumped over N200 under her watch She is now borrowing billions of dollars to pay salaries because she spent Nigeria broke Nigeria is $60 billion in debt under her watch So, exactly what did Nigerians gained based on the silly and irrelevant CV you are peddling all over the place? Whatever degree she was given and the reasons sited for the award has nothing to do with the realities on the ground and the sorry and pathetic state of the Nigerian economy that she rendered comatose. In America where she was given the award, they force people like her to resigned and she should have resigned years ago. |

Abagworo: Is it ongoing or completed project? Southeast is the poorest zone in Nigeria going by State allocations and has more population than the rest when you include those living outside but rooted in the Southeast. No Southeast State is in the top 10 of Nigeria. Borno gets more money than all Southeast States.
I wrote all of the above to explain why projects in the Southeast are at best modest and not expensive as there is little money to waste. Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom top list of expensive projects unsurprisingly because they are by far the top 3 earners.
Abia is building the largest mall in Africa and one of the largest in the world. You are in effect saying the SE is a dead zone in terms of projects. Seriously, you are not saying anything new since we all know this is one region where collectively and combined they are in zero position to do anything. Their problem has little or nothing to do with lack of funds especially since the SE folks on NL claims and beat their chest all the time that they have a lot of money and they are the richest in Nigeria, the problem is largely about poor and visionless leaders with zero sense of creativity. 16 years of lack of development and many more years of nothing to come since their predicament remains the same means what exactly? They do collect taxes and allocations too.. It's lack of vision and creativity... |

LAGOS FUNDS RESEARCH WITH N142.2M
The Lagos State Government has disbursed N142.2 million to some universities in the country to fund research in various fields.
Lagos Commissioner for Establishment, Training and Pension, Florence Oguntuase, disclosed this at the first Exhibition of the Lagos State Research and Development Grants, LRDG, Projects organised by the Lagos State Research Development Council, LRDC, in Lagos.
She disclosed that of the N142.2 million approved for research by Governor Babatunde Fashola, N126.2 million has been disbursed to the benefitting tertiary institutions, adding that the balance of N14.2 million would be disbursed after the exhibition.
The beneficiaries are Lagos State University, LASU; University of Lagos, UNILAG; Pan African University, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State; Caleb University; Yaba College of Technology and African Languages Technology Initiatives.
The commissioner said exhibitions were carried out in 31 project areas which the fund released were used in carrying out research.
Speaking at the event, Fashola said the state had demonstrated that through research and development, it could harness home grown innovative ideas whose implementation would move the state closer to achieving the State Development Plan 2012-2025.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, said the exhibition focused on researches in the areas of manufacturing, environmental sciences, Media, Culture and Creative Industries; Health Care Delivery; educational needs as well as power/energy, among others.
Chairman of LRDC, Prof. Olufemi Bamiro said the state government set up the council in 2012 with the sole aim of looking into the Lagos State Development Plan 2012-2025 by engaging in research that would aid its fruition.
He stated that there was no way Lagos could achieve its developmental plan without research, saying that the council came out with research in key areas such as health, education and others.
“We advertised for proposals and about 80 to 90 research proposals were received out of which 31 were approved. The results of what you are seeing today are efforts of researchers working for five months,” he said.
He called on the state government to ensure continuation of research by giving out more research grants to aid research, saying that the quality of research carried out by the researchers was unrivalled anywhere in the country.
Prof. Oke Bukola, Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, NUC, said at least 300 researchers working in 31 teams undertook the research, while commending the Lagos State Government for funding the research.
He called on the government to provide more money for research and it should sustain the good work it had started. Bukola urged the researchers to come up with position papers on what they had researched to be distributed to various government’s ministries for policy formulation and future development. State programs and policies... |

Imokay: Did you find anywhere the OP showing any project before 1999 or even any before 2007 when Fashola came in as governor. The comparison is what the 2 governors achieved with the income available to them for 8 years. The total income of the 2 states is very close as it is between 450 - 500 Billion budget per annum when it is Federal allocation, 13%, or IGR, money is money. The question is how and on what was it spent. Is the project commensurate with money spent, by what degree and what is the impact, does it meet the real pressing needs of the people. They can not read and comprehend basic English words... |

santori: bros to be honest, this aresa guy has not even captured up to half of the projects Fashola started and completed. his projects spread across the state, many areas that have long be forgotten now has a sense of belonging since Fashola came on board It's very hard to capture everything, I just with I have access to his project commissioning day planner to figure out exactly how many projects he actually commissioned. With hundreds of yet to be commissioned projects going on all over the state, I see Ambode commissioning projects left and right till 2019. |

ekiloui: Wow! I'm actually stunned! I'd rather be ignorant than speak fool.ishly, I asked a question because I knew nothing "if you call it ignorance" about the pics of the estate you posted. A little "yes it was funded by the government" would have answered my question, but you decided to rant. I think you need help. And about the "Island" "Mainland" thing, I never mentioned that those projects where on the mainland, I simply said the mainland is ugly, which is a fact, I stayed on the mainland in lagos last year and had to run back home after 3 days because of uncomfortable it was and that's why I made that statement. I'm just shocked to see you qouting me out of context, when I mentioned you I thought I was asking someone with brains and understanding a simple question, now I know u're just a kid who wants to prove that your state of origin or most likely state of residence is better.
You can qoute me and rant as you like because of your lack of comprehension and your zeal to prove whatever it is you're trying to prove but I won't be gracing you with a reply. . Since you opened a thread of this nature I expected you to be intelligent. Estates may or may not be funded by the Government! Most estates are planned and built by estate managers and funding can come from anywhere in form of loans and grants. That the Governor commissioned the estate doesn't neccessarily mean it was funded by the Government, it could have been a financial institution I.e A commercial bank, Mortgage bank, even individuals sponsor estate building. News Friday, July 11th, 2014
Lagos—Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State yesterday debunked claim that the state borrowed money either internationally or locally to finance the construction of houses under the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme, Lagos HOMS.
The governor who disclosed this at the 5th raffle of Lagos HOMS held at Agidingbi, Ikeja, said the housing project the state had executed and executing in over 20 construction sites across the state were not financed with loans. According to him, the housing projects were executed 100 percent by the state government.
His words “we have not borrowed a dime from any bank. So, there is no bank charge on this scheme. It is executed with the tax payers’ money. The state government is not paying interest to any bank because of this scheme.”
The governor who provided an insight into housing projects that are under construction, noted “We have expanded to Ilubirin, Iponri and Akerele Extension among others.
“Working is ongoing 23 additional construction sites. We have equally engaged 193 contractors. Also, about 2,483 persons of diverse qualification have been employed as a result apart from consultants.”
