Are you talking about what he did? or what he is still doing? Angry How can you justify the 10,000 imo jobs and 2,000 naira he extorted from those imo youths. Do you know how many graduates that fell for the 'ponzi' scheme organized by ohakim? ohakim has 419 running in his blood and even as a Governor he could't control that urge. u talk about legal battles, how about his counterparts in other states? do u think the likes of Amaechi and Fashola don't have legal huddles to jump?

@assme what you don't know you don't know guy. Governor Amaechi and Fashola. their states are 9 times richer than imo state. have you seen their budgets for 2011 or the state monthly income. come on grow up. just the monthly budget of a local government in lagos is more than imo state. i know you like everything free and pretending to be a less privilege. grow up nothing is free my guy.

Campaign D-G Laments Absence of Issue-Based Campaign by Opposition Says They Depend On Litigation
Director-General, Ikedi Ohakim campaign organisation, Hon. Ralph Obioha has said that Governor Ikedi Ohakim’s campaign will remain issue-driven, lambasting opposition for lack of genuine agenda that will develop Imo state.
Also he cajoled the opposition parties for not embarking on campaign, revealing that they are waiting to go to court to make noise after the conduct of the election.
Obioha told Daily Independent that the campaign strategy of Ohakim will remain issue-driven unlike those of the opponents, saying that the roadmap for the development of the state is well articulated in the governor’s blueprint to raise leadership bar.
The former federal lawmaker said the opposition have refused to embark on serious campaign to convince Imo people on their vision for the state, submitting that they are merely waiting to make noise by challenging the outcome of the election.
‘’We have done almost two-third of the local governments in our campaign and the question now is where are the opponents? We have been trying to see whether they are anywhere but we hear that they are now preparing to start what they do best and that is to start challenging the outcome of the election after the election itself and we are not bothered by that. There is absence of issue-based campaign from the opposition.
‘’ The people of Imo will overwhelmingly give their mandate to Ikedi Ohakim for a second term. From what we have observed by the enthusiasm and support and the mood of the people they have shown appreciation on what the young man (Ohakim) has been able to achieve in the last 4years and all are gearing up to cast their votes massively for him to complete his second term.
‘’ My assessment of the campaign so far is that it is being conducted in the most orderly manner. We pledged this at the beginning of the campaign that our campaign will be issue- driven and we have avoided anything that could raise any kind of tuggery, we also asked our opponents to try to avoid it. After the elections of April 16th there will still be Imo state on the 17th of April and we want a peaceful orderly Imo state thereafter’’ he noted.

Politics / Rochas! A Man That Sees Politics As An Arena For Business. by arinzeeze: 1:39pm On Mar 22, 2011
Rochas!a man that sees politics as an arena for business.
Rochas Okorocha has being on the frontline of politics but nothing tangible to show for it. He is a political show man in Nigeria and yet nothing to show for it, instead he has being perambulating from one political party to another. The facts below shows his incompetency and instability in politics:
Rochas Okorocha contested for “President” in 2003 on the platform of all Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP); Nigerians never knew that he was sponsored by the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo to help destabilize the ANPP. He later withdrew from the Presidential race and abandoned all the people who followed him into his then party ANPP. President Obasanjo later appointed him as Special Adviser on Inter-Party affairs to compensate him for a “job” well done which he did not stay up to 3 months and resigned. Ever since then, ANPP has remained comatose and its members more confused than ever.
In 2005, Rochas Okorocha “formed” the Action Alliance (AA) and many people followed him to his new party. But because of his nature as leopard who never changes its spot, Rochas took Action Alliance delegates to Abuja and abandoned them without notice and joined PDP to contest Presidential primaries. Many of the Action Alliance delegates borrowed money to find their way home to the South East. Rochas was compensated with Federal government contracts.
Again it is a notorious fact that Rochas Okorocha, Rochas Okorocha has jumped from one political party to another in the last 12 years. He jumped from PDP to UNPP to ANPP to PDP to AA to PDP to Labour Party to APGA.
As a leopard he has come again in imo state to play business between APGA and PDP. The picture below is a clear evidence of what he will do soon. Imolites are breaking their heads over Rochas who is running his private business with political parties very soon he will be compensated with his normal pay that will sustain him until another coming election.

I have  taken time to read your comment s and I have not really gotten anything tangible all I see is Ohakim is a thief and a 419er and there is/are no fact(s) like proves to show for it. All I need is just proofs nothing tell me figures, pictures, document or something so we could all fight him out from there. Until then I am not yet to be moved or convinced by what you guys are saying.

@Eziachi i can feel your pain and i know how pissed someone can be when he doesn't see the dividend of his money. i once felt that way until i went down to my village and saw 3 farmers coming back with loans you could see joy emanating from their face and comments proceeding out of their mouth like may God bless this administration for providing loans and fertilizer for a good farming season you know and many more touching comments coming out from their mouth. i had to go find out the truth about every bad they say the administration had done. i urge you don't be a hear say person.
Politics / Re: Ohakim Pays Hospital Bill For Nursing Mothers by arinzeeze: 10:35am On Mar 21, 2011
This programme started since the beginning of his administration. The problem is that some group of people decided to carry out propaganda to cover up what ever this administration is doing. Do you wonder why people never say the good this administration is has doing? this is because of the rumors and propaganda the opposition parties are spreading around like wildfire. when i hear, i go to fined out the truth about what i hear. i tell you that the answers are every where. lets be realistic here you don,t expect to bring something back to normal easily that has been damaged for like 8 years or more. i think we need a gradual process called "little by little". imolites are asking for things to be done too fast all we need is just a little patience and lets watch this administration do more from what it is doing. IMO is always in the hands of God.

Politics / Ohakim Tasks Judiciary On Democracy by arinzeeze: 4:09pm On Mar 19, 2011
Ohakim tasks Judiciary on Democracy

Imo State Governor Ikedi Ohakim has called on the judiciary to rise above any form of intimidation to assist in the deepening of the nation’s fledgling democracy.
He said the role of the judiciary remains critical to the survival of democracy, urging members not to compromise standards under any circumstance so as to save the country’s developing democracy.
Ohakim made the appeal in Owerri at the opening ceremony of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Owerri Branch Law Week.
Speaking on the theme: Nigeria’s Democracy so far--A critical appraisal of the role of the legal profession, Ohakim said the institution of the judiciary is the last hope of the common man, advising legal practitioners to rise to the challenge of the profession so as to aid the development of democracy, widely accepted as the best system of government.
The governor appealed to the members of the judiciary not to allow politicians manipulate the legal system and to at all-time ensure that people get justice on time.
‘’the role of the judiciary remains critical to the survival of our democracy. The judiciary must rise beyond intimidation and pronounce justice without fear or favour. The institution must not compromise justice as they remain the last hope of the common man. If democracy must be strengthened and deepened then the judiciary must rise to the challenge’’ he submitted.
Also in his address, Chairman of NBA, Owerri branch Ama Akalonu said since the dawn of the 4th republic the legal profession in the country has continued to play a cardinal role in the political arrangement, urging political parties to play by the rules so as to allow the votes of the people to count.
‘’the bar will never abdicate its traditional role of speaking for the bench, no matter. The bar demands for peaceful, free and fair elections. The bar has drawn up its own agenda to independently monitor the elections in all local government areas in the country. We call on all political parties to play according to the rules and allow the vote of the people to count’’ Akalonu counselled.

Nigerian Students Pledge Support For Ohakim
Commend non-increment in fees

Students of all tertiary institutions in Imo state under the ages of Nigerian students have passed a vote of confidence on Imo state governor, Ikedi Ohakim, promising to back him for his re-election in the April polls.
Also they commended Ohakim for graciously refusing to increase tuition fee or any other fee, praising him for his committed passion in the improvement of education sector.
The students also advised other governorship candidates, particularly those outside the Okigwe zone, the area expected to finish their remaining 4year term in the zoning arrangement to step down for Ohakim as he has shown capacity and commitment of a focussed leader.
The students who came in different buses gathered at the gate of the government Hose in Owerri on Thursday to register their appreciation and support for Ohakim.
Carrying play cards with inscriptions ‘’ No vacancy in Imo state government House, 2011, Ohakim we know, On zoning we stand, IMSU students love Ohakim, Imo stars will vote for you, Rochas should wait until after the turn of Okigwe and Owerri, among others the students expressed satisfaction and confidence in Ohakim’s leadership.
‘’we are here to humbly thank you (Ohakim) sir for rejecting the increment in the fees of all institutions of higher learning in our state. We are here to express solidarity and to assure you of our massive support for your re-election’’ Kingdom Okere spokesperson for the students noted.
In his response, Ohakim said he will remain focussed and distracted by propaganda, promising to do more so as to raise the leadership bar in the state.
He assured that there will be no fee increase, just as he promised to reduce the fees if possible.
‘’this election cannot be a reward for liars, for those who will promise us heaven and earth without telling us how they will be able to achieve it, it is not election of those who will snatch our votes and they will not have anything to offer. We are bringing revolution to the education sector, accommodation will seize to be a problem as we implement our latest strategy, and we are even going to reduce the school fees. I am the change agent Imo people can trust’’ he asserted.

A GUBER DEBATE IN A MARKET SQUARE

By PINI JASON

On Thursday 10 March 2011, the Catholic Church in Owerri under the auspices of JDPC-DCS and with Most Rev, A. J. V Obinna, Metropolitan Archbishop of Owerri as the Chief host, organized a Public Forum on the 2011 General Election for Imo Governorship Aspirants. The theme was: Preparing for Rigging-Free, Violence-Free and Upright Voting in Imo State.

Ordinarily, this was a wonderful idea. The JDPC has had a record of intervention in public affairs by organizing public fora. I have had the privilege of participating in several JDPC events at their Anifowose Street hall in Victoria Island, Lagos with friends like Monsignor Matthew Hassan Kukah, who is now Vicar-General of Kaduna, Fr George Ehusani, currently of Church of Assumption, Abuja, Prof Pat Utomi and other activists. I have had the rare privilege of addressing the Catholic Bishops Conference years back at Abuja. That was apparently the day Fr. Ehusani knew I was not a Catholic. My close association with Catholics has made people assume that I was a Catholic!
But the event organized by the JDPC in Owerri on 10 March was a horrifying departure from the standard of organization associated with JDPC. It was like holding a campaign rally for 12 rival political parties in one venue at the same time! This was a surprising departure from a similar debate billed as The Great Debate organized for all gubernatorial candidates in Imo State on Tuesday 8 March 2011 by the NUJ Imo Chapter in conjunction with Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN Imo State branch, of which the Catholic Church is a member. The NUJ-CAN debate which was broadcast live, observed and reasonably enforced some basic and universally accepted rules of political debate.

In the JDPC pamphlet some of these rules were itemized under the “Forum Code of Conduct”. But the organization of the Forum was such that it was absolutely impossible to enforce the code of conduct. The first sign of trouble I noticed on arrival was that the Forum was held in an open and unsecured arcade, called Obiri Odenigbo, Assumpta Cathedral and there was no accreditation of the audience! Obiri Odenigbo is a venue that hosts the famous Odenigbo Lecture series, usually delivered in Igbo language by one speaker.

All events are not the same. Different events attract different audience and different management. You must understand the character of the expected audience. Venue is always chosen to fit the event and the audience. You cannot host a gubernatorial debate in a market square! And when you put rival political contestants canvassing for votes in one uncontrolled venue, it is a mere pretence to expect decorum there! It seems to me that the organizers assumed that the hallowed ground of Assumpta Cathedral was enough to imbue the crowd hired by some of the contestants with decorum. What I saw was an event where the organizers lost control.

The only way the JDPC could have taken charge of the event was to accredit the audience. That was what the organizers of the NUJ-CAN debate did and the event achieved its purpose of giving the contestants room to address Imo people. But at Assumpta, it was like hosting a World Cup at Dan Anyiam stadium and throwing the gates open for free. You had to fight to get a plastic chair. Then you find that the small space available had been taken over by rented crowd some of who probably slept there! That was a serious breach of security at a time thugs are vandalizing opponents campaign offices and shooting rival contestants!

If the logic was that the candidates needed to directly address the masses of Imo people, it was grossly flawed. In these days of even better mass media you don’t need direct contact to reach mass audience. That could be better achieved by holding the debate in controlled environment, with an accredited audience and setting up large viewing screens for all and sundry, and televising the event live or recorded. The contestants would still have reached the masses. Therefore, it cannot be an argument in favour of poor organization that you wanted the contestants to address electorates directly. Things are not just done that ancient way anymore!

The flaws in the organization of what was ordinarily a wonderful idea began to manifest even before the first speaker. Things became so disgraceful that His Grace Most Rev Obinna had to leave his seat on the high table to go down to the audience to quell fights among volatile rented mobs rooting for some of the candidates! Things got worse when the crowd started leaving. Archbishop Obinna pleaded for people to come back, to no avail! What more evidence did anybody need to know that the event had collapsed on the heads of the organizers! As my driver, a Catholic himself observed painfully, even those who take Holy Communion from the Bishop every Sunday could not listen to him!

As the ugly scenes unfolded many observers found it curious that some of the candidates of some political parties who 48 hours before, dodged the NUJ-CAN debate that had better organization showed up enthusiastically at the Assumpta rally! I would not speculate about the motive of the JDPC-DCS and what they programmed to achieve with the Forum. I can never doubt the integrity of JDPC or Archbishop Obinna. But we are in interesting, but testy times. And I wonder if the organizers can beat their chests and say that they pulled off a great event as NUJ-CAN would or that they were fair and just to all the candidates, the audience and the Catholic Church!

I have always advised organizers of events not to plan from the point of view that everything would work out. Come that day, you find to your embarrassment that nothing works out because in Public Relations we caution that nothing happens unless you make it happen! It is always better to anticipate everything that could possibly go wrong and plan from that point of view. The JDPC Public Forum was a marvelous idea mishandled. This should be a lesson to the organizers for the future. Finally, those who breezily criticize government must learn from this fiasco how difficult it is to govern Imo State.

@Areosapien
i think you have failed to see what the government is doing in this state back in the days like in the year 2007 orji was dilapidated with flood and it became an unfriendly environment for both living things and ''non living things''. i stayed at orji  i tell you there was no way to come out when rain falls. lets leave the issue of ohakim or rochas and let us see the truth and say what it is. if you go to orji now you will see with your own eyes that the problem of flood has been solved and the over flowing river issue has been solved. there is no need to carry fake news all around town about what you cannot see with your own eyes. let us at least appreciate the good this government has done first before we start to lambaste the bad aspect of it. i think the good about the present government counters the bad aspect people are carrying about as propaganda. let us take time and go around town and refresh our mind on how a particular place was and how it is presently.  "selah"
