seyewest:Thanks bro, you are doing a great job. |
So good to be here to share my POE experience with love from Houston. Great job to all the MODs (esp. seyewest) and other contributors on this great thread. May nature reward you accordingly Trip June 30 - July 1: MMIA - DXB - IAH (Trip total: 27.5HRS (4.5HRS layover @ DXB, 16.0HRS TO IAH)) Equipment: Boeing 777-300ER (MMIA - DXB) Airbus A380-800 (DXB - IAH) Note: First time in the US (All 6 of us) So at POE, the queue was long because of the completely filled aircraft that we arrived on. Also, coinciding with the arrival of another Delta Airlines Aircraft. We (Family of 6 (3 Generations)) queued up and in another 20 minutes we were at the front of the queue. I, armed with all the passports of the family immediately approached the CBP officer and asked him if all my family members can join me at his cubicle whilst stretching our passports forward to him. CBP: No problem, you can have them all join you here. Me: Thanks, gestured to them to join me at the cubicle CBP: So, what are you here for? Me: For vacation and family reunion as my brother (A citizen) already awaits our arrival. CBP: Oh, that's nice - whilst swiping my passport through the reader to pull my details, then, asks, how long are you here for? Me: 27 days (meanwhile my son, barely 14 months old was busy murmuring only what him and other beings understood) CBP: can someone tell that handsome dude to shut up (with a glimmer of smile on his face) Me: We all laughed, and I responded asking him to give us a sweet to stick in his mouth or I have him stay and work here with officer *** CBD: Do you have any food? Me: Just personal effects and clothing to last our stay (Meanwhile we had 10 bags filled with all sorts to courier for family and friends) naija! we get too much wahala. CBP: Picks up his stamp and started stamping our passports then wrote B2, and DEC 31,2018 in the Class and Until respectively on the stamped part. CBP: Handed all the passport BUT 1 over to me, He picked up the withheld passport and beckoned to one of the officers then handed the passport over to him and asked him to show us so the way to baggage claim to have our luggage checked Me: Became a bit jittery but kept my calm knowing fully well that whatever is not accepted in the baggage will be trashed since we were not carrying illegal items or illicit substances anyways. Baggage Control: Queued up and waited for about 10 minutes before it was our turn. Baggage Control: Called one of the officer to join the 2 of us that he nominated to the carousel to get our bags Officer @ the Carousel: Have you guys been here before? Me: No, this is our first time Officer @ the Carousel: Oh nice, welcome to Houston Me: Thank you. Me: Collected all our bags (10) in total and headed back to the baggage claim officer Baggage Control: Come over guys, beckoned at all of us, then pointed us in the direction of the scanner to have our luggage scanned and scrutinized by the officer. Baggage Control: Handed the withheld passport to another officer at the scanner, who checked through the passport and immediately tossed it over to me. Baggage Control: Scanned our 10 bags and pointed to 2 bags and asked us to put the remaining 8 bags back on our carts. Baggage Control: requested for the keys of the 2 bags which I promptly handed over, they opened the bags and brought out the Maggi and Ponmo from the 2 bags smiling and saying oh we don't allow "ponmo" in *American Accent* here .they further asked if we had Suya and well and we all chorused no! Me: I immediately heaved a sigh of relief that the worst was over after all. Baggage Control: Zipped the bags up and pushed them over to us that we can go. Without hesitation I grabbed the bags and dumped them straight unto our carts, thanked them and disapeared before they could change their minds ![]() Note: It turned out that the held passport was my mom's (A senior) whom my brother has petitioned for and will serve as our sponsor after the petition is approved. Its a different scenery out here people...really deserving to be here. We all will be back home at month's end God willing. PS: I can tell you on good authority as announced on our approach into IAH and confirmed on arrival that Pre-Arrival/Customs declaration is no longer required at IAH, DFW, MCO and 2 other airports (I can't immediately recall the names) by CBP. So we didn't have to complete any for the CBP on arrival. This is in the spirit of giving back to this great community. |
Activedreamer:The fact that there is a shorter connecting flight within that time frame may make you ineligible for the offer. The link below will answer all your questions regarding the layover arrangement. https://www.emirates.com/ae/english/before-you-fly/dubai-international-airport/dubai-connect-conditions.aspx Also, below is the specific part of the T&C that explains your eligibility or otherwise for "Dubai Connect" Eligibility You must meet the following eligibility criteria to qualify for the ‘Dubai Connect’ offer: Minimum connecting time for Economy Class passengers The connection time between inbound flight arrival into Dubai and the outbound flight departure from Dubai must be more than or equal to eight hours and less than or equal to 24 hours. The passenger must be booked on the best available connection, that being the one with the shortest transit time in Dubai, between the inbound flight into Dubai and the outbound flight from Dubai, to qualify for the ‘Dubai Connect’ offer. Minimum connecting time for First Class and Business Class passengers The connection time between inbound flight arrival into Dubai and outbound flight departure from Dubai must be more than or equal to six hours and less than or equal to 24 hours. The passenger must be booked on the best available connection, that being the one with the shortest transit time in Dubai, between the inbound flight into Dubai and the outbound flight from Dubai, to qualify for the ‘Dubai Connect’ offer. Hope this helps. |
seyewest:Thank you very much, I appreciate. Keep up the good work. |
Happy new month everyone, I have been a silent reader on this platform and I sincerely appreciate the great work that the MODs are doing to help humanity. May the FORCE deal you all a good one. I have a family vacation already set for month end however, whilst on the trip, we'll need to do a IAH - BWI - IAH "mm-dd-yyyy" (07/03/2018 - 07/07/2018) trip but what I'm seeing on expedia.com at present is hovering around N240k. Would appreciate if seyewest and others can help get a better deal please. Family of 3 (baby's age < 2) Great job @ seyewest and all |

I have been a silent reader (a member of the silent readers association of this group you'll say) since about 3 months ago. I took my time to skim through part 1, read part 2 into detail and I've been following part 3 so religiously. Our Interview (I, Darling Wife & Son) went for our interview yesterday at 7:30AM and below is the transcript: VO: Good morning I and DWF: Good morning (together, smiling) Me: Carried our son in a carrier. He had slept off while waiting on the queue for fingerprint capture having gone through the preliminary clearance VO: Passports please Me: Gave him. VO: why are you going to the US? Me: We are going to Houston Texas for family vacation and to visit my brother who tried to attend our wedding in October 2015 but couldn't make it due to his intense work schedule at the firm he was working with at the time. We have also been wanting to take the vacation and visit on his request since then but our work schedule and our inability to synchronise our leave wouldn't allow us VO : (cuts in) how long are u going for? Me: 14days. VO: What do you do? (That was the VO's undoing....) Me: I'm the Head of IT for blablabla managing the entire IT enterprise infrastructure across blablabla (mentioned all the regions my company covers) ......I oversee. ...bla bla bla (until the VO stopped me).....sincerely, I needed a stopping. VO: How much is your salary? (Gbam!...another land mine just triggered by VO) Me: I earn approximately blablabla, exclusive of revenue generated from the annual rentals of my real estate and also incomes from private IT consultancy to SME's All the while, DWF was smiling and looking straight into the VO's eyes. VO : Madam, what do you do? DWF: I'm an assistant manager, sales in an IT sales and solutions company, blablabla....... I build and maintain close relationship btw blablabla... and her customers in particular sectors like blablabla and blablabla, till VO stopped her. VO: (to me), tell me about IT Infrastructure. ....(inadvertently unleashed the dragon) that was how I went on a roll.....when I join blablabla....there was nothing like structure as the entire network was on a WORKGROUP, So I commenced the design of a full fledge domain infrastructure, implemented on blablabla Server blablabla R2 Datacenter Edition mounted on blablabla Server Machine and hosting over 7 VMs representing core services delivered on the infrastructure....... VO couldn't help but smile through my long epistle until and had to stop me after a while. VO: How long have you worked for? Me: I'll be 7 years by February ending VO: you madam (to DWF) DWF: I'll be 7 by April ending VO: Have you travelled before ? Me and DWF at the same time: Yes. VO: Flips through my passport rapidly Me: Given my job role, I have travelled between Nigeria and Ghana multiple times...while at it, I noticed he was trying to check through DWF's passport and taking I initiative, I immediately said - - you may want to see this (passing DWF's old passport containing her trip to Ghana in 2011 to him) VO: Flips through the passport, checking the entry and exit stamps seems to be amused about the Bank's stamp of the $ amount of PTA purchased for the trip at the time, smiles and returned it to me. VO: Do you have any other child or children? DWF and I : No, he's only 8 months, DWF added. VO: Went back to his computer and started typing away as if he was on a hacking adventure......and the typing continued like it was going to be for eternity only for him to lift his head after about 2 minutes beaming with smile and the magic sentence spilled from his mouth......Your VISA has been approved! ("Gbam!!!" - not part of the sentence). DFW just packed all we had resting on the platform and didn't wait to hear the rest. My hand of its own accord outstretched to collect the white paper whilst I managed to mutter the words "Have a nice day and happy new year" I practically floated on air out of the building. Rushed to catch up with DFW and told her to keep a straight face because I wasn't ready to give shishi to no security. One even tried asking how it went, we just walked past completely hushed. NB: I was denied F1 back in July 2006 for not having enough tie and went ahead to study an almost identical course in the University here in Nigeria. I have since been working after graduation. Went to the embassy with, introductory letter from office, salary breakdown, statement of accounts - DWF's and mine, Properties documents, training and school certificates but not a single document was checked. Elder brother is a citizen while younger sister (non-immigrant) is presently attending a University for Masters I need to thank the brains behind this platform immensely for ensuring the sustainability of the platform and standing resolute in the face of all sorts of insults and castigation. The advices that everyone brings to bare is unquantifiable and may the FORCE reward each and all accordingly. I wish intending applicants and those reapplying good luck |

I really can't fathom what knowledge this type of teacher will be imparting on her students. A teacher of doom!!! |
It's so unfortunate that people without the knowledge about anything in this country portray themselves on our TV screens as authorities where as they are empty heads. Thanks so much Tunde for letting us understand the ills and the perils behind this FX thing. your efforts will be highly appreciated |
