Armed robbers on Wednesday night raided the home of Nollywood star, Nkem Owoh, at Phase 6 Trans-Ekulu Layout Enugu. The robbers carted away properties worth millions of naira from his home, including his newly acquired black coloured Mitsubishi Montero Jeep with number plate BU 64 FST worth about N8 million, alongside other valuables.. Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, was not at home when the robbers broke into his house, a duplex, as he was said to be in Lagos where he was shooting a movie. When journalists visited his home on Thursday, the place looked deserted and there was nobody around to speak on the matter. However, when reached on phone, Owoh confirmed the incident, saying he lost his laptop, video camera and Jeep to the hoodlums. Owoh described the incident as “very unfortunate”, adding that he had reported the matter to the Enugu State Police Command for necessary action. When contacted on telephone, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Enugu State Command, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed that hoodlums broke into Owoh’s home. He however said it was not a case of armed robbery, but car theft and burglary. “Yes, the man was away from his home and some people who knew that he was not at home took advantage of his absence and broke into his house. “The hoodlums made away with his Jeep. But, it is not a case of armed robbery or armed banditry as you are portraying it”, Amaraizu said. naijamayor.com/robbers-raid-nollywood-actor-nkem-owohs-osuofias-house-in-enugu/ |
President Goodluck Jonathan is to host the Nigerian delegation to the paralympic games as well as members of the Falconet in appreciation of their sterling performance. The Nigerian paralympians Tuesday night rejected the National Institute for Sports hostel accommodation reserved for them after they touched down in Lagos from their triumphant run at the London 2012 Paralympics Games. Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, told state House correspondents that the superlative performance of members of the Team Nigeria Special athletes at the just concluded Paralympic Games in London “have wiped away our tears”. According to him, the Paraolympians and the Falconets performance at the just concluded FIFA Women U-20 Championship in Japan was brilliant, and the planned reception this saturday is to send a clear message that all athletes are important. “They (Paraolympians) have wiped away our tears. The message they have sent is that we need a greater passion in what we do. Their performance confirms that every citizen is important. The reception will send a clear message that all is important”, he noted. On the Falconets, the Minister described the performance of the female junior team that came third as “ventilating”, adding that “they showed a lot of talents and defeated very great football nations. “They have demonstrated that when women are asking for 35 per cent they mean it. It is a clear indication what women can do better where men have failed”. At the London Games, the Nigerian special athletes won a total of 13 medals; six gold, five silver and two bronze medals. The performance lifted the dampen spirit of Nigerians when the able bodied athletes could not win a single medal at the main London Games London. Hisses, Sighs as Paralympians reject NSC’s accommodation However Nigerian paralympians Tuesday night rejected the National Institute for Sports hostel accommodation reserved for them after they touched down in Lagos from their triumphant run at the London 2012 Paralympics Games. Some of the athletes spoken to submitted that the NIS hostel did not match their status as paralympics heroes. The athletes were treated to a mini reception at the National Stadium Lagos. And they were shepherded into the NIS hostels by the National Sports Commission Liaison officer in Lagos, Mrs. Tayo Oreweme, but one by one they sneaked out of the premises preferring to lodge in comfortable hotels on their own, while those who have homes in Lagos went to their abodes. “We felt that they will be secured at the NIS after a reception was held for them at the National Stadium. I’m aware that some of them went home, but I cannot say if they protested against what was offered to them,” said Secretary-general of the Nigeria Paralympics Committee, Dr. Frank Thorpe. www.vanguardngr.com/2012/09/president-jonathan-to-host-paralympians-falconets/

While Nigerians are busy going back and forth over whether the N5000 note should be introduced or not, fresh information has it that there are speculation that the controversial note might already have been printed abroad and shipped into the country, preparatory to distribution as early as January next year. This is despite the fact that both the House of Representatives and the Senate are insisting that they are yet to give approval for the new note. But the presidency has given its blessings to the introduction of the new note. However, the Central Bank have come out to declare that what had been printed was just the design and not the original naira note which will come into effect in March 2013. www.lailaikeji.com/2012/09/new-n5000-note-already-printed-abroad.html?m=1 |

A woman once said "Beauty attracts men but wisdom keeps them. Elegance catches men's attention but intelligence convinces them. Nagging irritates men but 'constructive silence weakens them. The 'boy' in every man pumps out occasionally, the ability to handle this is a woman's truest maturity. Men have secret struggles and silent pains, should you ever find them out, you have exhibited the greatest maturity. In the long-run your 'words' matters more to a man than your 'looks', so invest the right words. Earn a man's respect and he will consider you the yard stick for all his action. Learn to mold the moods of your man. Men will naturally give u their futures if they can recall your maturity in yesterday's issues... Women are everywhere but QUEENS are scarce. Adedoyin Idowu Owolabi, ICAN President, has warned the Governor of Central Bank, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, that CBN’s repeated change in its monetary policy rate is an indication of severity of inflation which it has been targeting for some time. “If unemployment was lower, it would not have been a cause for worry given the established inverse relation between unemployment and inflation.” He explained that : “ To print more currency as envisaged without earning foreign revenue to support its value will put more inflationary pressure on the naira and lead to a diminution in its value. Indeed, one of the indices of a growing inflation, from economic history, is the creation of higher denominations as exemplified by Argentina, Peru, Poland, Russia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Zimbabwe”. While commending the initiative to redesign the security features of the nation’s currencies with a view to reducing the huge annual royalties paid to foreign interests, ICAN also noted that caution should be taken in some areas. “There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the idea to introduce the N5,000 as there are some benefits to be derived. Beside, having the potential to reduce royalty payments on existing security features as well as the cost of printing and maintenance of the currencies, the initiative will enhance the profitability of the CBN and its ability to generate funds for the government.” He stressed: “In spite of the above benefits, we are not persuaded that the N5,000 denomination should be introduced. At a time when the size of government deficit is about 2.8% of GDP (although within acceptable limit), the intention to spend N40billion for this exercise appears to be both a waste of scarce public resource and misplacement of priority. Set against the benefits, the proposed expenditure of N40billion will add little or no value to wealth creation.” From this perspective , the introduction of N5000 note will eventually alter the pricing structure of products in the market leading ultimately to the permanent disappearance of the 5, 10, 20 & 50 naira notes (and even the proposed new coins) from circulation. “ The extinction of these smaller denominations will negatively impact the buying capacity and habits of low-income earners and the poor as goods and services will be priced above their levels. Sustained increases in prices may the unintended consequence.”. The group also advocated that the CBN should work towards strengthening the purchasing power of the naira through policy consistency. “ The steady slide in the value of the naira in relation to other currencies like the USA dollar, British pound sterling, etc, as an import-dependent country should be a major source for concern. As an import-dependent nation, when Nigeria converted to naira and kobo in 1973, the exchange rate was GBP £1=N2.00 and USA$ 0.30=N1.00. Today, the exchange rate is now GBP £1=246.31, USA$1=N157.50.” Owolabi added: “ From the literature and empirical experience, devaluation benefits export-oriented economies. As a mono- product and import- dependent economy, we are most unlikely to benefit from the resultant devaluation that this initiative may unwittingly cause. Since the naira is not convertible, increasing the denomination will not check the perceived trend towards dollarisation.” www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/business/60769-ican-president-cautions-cbn-gov-over-n5000-note.html |

Jalingo – No fewer than five people were confirmed dead and more than 50 persons declared missing following torrential rains and flooding in Lau, Karim-Lamido and Gassol Local Government Areas of Taraba. In separate interviews on Wednesday, the chairmen of these councils also said that crops and livestock worth millions of naira had been washed away by the flood. The three persons died in Lau and two in Karim-Lamido councils respectively. Alhaji Tukura Bashir, Chairman of Gassol local government area, noted that such disaster had not been witnessed in the area in the past five decades. Bashir said that villagers on the banks of the River Benue, the major cause of the devastation, had seen many copses floating on the river. Meanwhile, the Chairmen of Lau, Mr Anthony Danburam and his Karim-Lamido counterpart, Mr Idi Mali, both confirmed that several people were also displaced. In all the affected councils, thousands of people were displaced and farmlands submerged. The development raised fears of food shortages due to the loss of crops such as rice, maize and beans, among others to floods across Taraba in the past one month. All the council chairmen and farmers have called for urgent intervention by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the state government and well- meaning individuals to provide succour to the people. They said the call for assistance had become necessary because the magnitude of the devastation was beyond the capacity of the councils. (NAN) |

Some people decide to pay their respects via drive-thru. Others hang coffins from cliffs. Despite the variety of their methods, the rituals are based in the same idea: communities want to remember and honor their dead. Funeral rituals vary tremendously. Whether in the same country or on opposite sides of the world, people find unique ways to send off their family and friends who have died. Here are 10 fascinating funerals found around the world. 10 Drive-thru Funeral In many ways, the United States is a land of convenience. Fast food chains sit on many street corners throughout the country so that anyone can drive through and grab a bite to eat, no matter their schedule. Some places in the US have taken this concept and applied it to rituals for the deceased. Parking is no issue, as you can view the body and sign the guest book without ever leaving your vehicle. It is truly a fascinating example of common North American burial practices mixed with America’s culture of convenience. 9 Webcast Services People are scattered throughout the globe more than ever, and many people do not have enough disposable income on hand to drop money on a pricey plane ticket with little notice. That can make attending funerals difficult for family and friends who are thousands of miles away from the service of a loved one. Some are electing to stream funeral services as webcasts so that location does not get in the way of a person being present for the service, even if it is from the other side of the globe. Webcasting funeral services serves as an interesting mix of tradition and technology. 8 Fireworks Burial Some people are just dying to go out with a bang. Cremation fireworks make that possible in a new way. Some companies offer services where they packcremated remains into firework shells and then launch them into the heavens, creating a stunning fireworks display over land or sea. The results are a vibrant, powerful testimony to anyone who led an exciting life and wished for the same kind of excitement during their funeral. 7 Strangulation A traditional funeral ceremony on the South Pacific Island of Fiji can get really grim. When someone dies, those closest to the deceased are then killed too, often through strangulation. The idea is to ensure that the dead is surrounded by family and friends even after death. People would seek to kill female widows, in particular, believing that the god Ruvuyalo would kill the spirit of a man who was not accompanied by his wife. This murderous ritual has since been phased out in modern times on the island. 6 Cliff-hanging When many people think about coffins, they imagine a casket that rests deep underground. Some communities hold a different view: they believe that coffins need to be close to the sky so that their dead can be closer to heaven. You can see this practice in minority groups from the Philippines as well as southern parts of China, where the deceased are placed in coffins and then left suspended from the sides of cliffs. 5 Cannibalism In the Amazon rainforest, parts of the indigenous population go a step further than honoring and remembering their dead – they eat them, too. Up until the 1960s, for example, a group called the Wari’ would engage in mortuary cannibalism. They would eat their kin, anthropologists reported, as a way to emotionally detach from memories of those who pass. The group considered the act a respectful way to dispose of bodies. It was less cruel, to them, than leaving it to rot in the ground. Contact with outsiders eventually put a halt to the practice; the Wari’ needed food and medicine, which affluent outsiders would often withhold from participants in mortuary cannibalism. 4 Sky Burial The Tibetan funerary ritual called sky burial is a practice designed to dispose of remains while allowing a person’s flesh to nourish living beings. In a sky burial, a person dissects a corpse and leaves it in the open, often on raised land like a hill or mountain. Carrion birds like vultures then descend on the corpse and consume its flesh. Remaining bones are later ground up and usually given to animals like hawks and crows. 3 Diamond Transformation Humans are carbon-based life forms. Due to that trait, bodies can be used to create a wide variety of things. Now, companies are using that fact to shake up burial practices – it is possible, for example, to get a person’s remains transformed into a diamond. A combination of heat and high pressure changes human ash into a shimmering jewel. This practice is not cheap. Customers looking to preserve a person’s remains in the form of a large diamond could be set back around $25,000. 2 Tree Burial Aboriginal groups in Australia sometimes use trees in their funerary traditions. They take the deceased’s body and place it in a tree. There, it is left to decompose. Months or even years later, members of the group retrieve remaining bones. These bones are painted with red ochre and placed in a decorated, hollowed-out log during a ceremony complete with dancing. Those involved in the ceremony transport the log containing the bones to the main camp and, after more singing and dancing, they leave it to endure the elements. That completes the burial cycle. 1 Space Burial People who want their physical remains to leave the planet can opt for a space burial. Here, a company collects a tiny fraction of your cremated remains, packs it into small containermade to withstand the demands of space travel, and sends it out into space. One problem with this practice is that, in many cases, the remainseventually return to earth. For a hefty price tag,you have the option of a more permanent placement: your remains can take a one-way trip to the moon. The world is full of fascinating funeral rituals. Whether inspired by the trends of modern America or ancestral traditions dating back thousands of years, funerals help reveal howvaried communities and their cultural practices can be.

Obviously one can see that this is a suggestion from one person based on perceptions and personal experiences. Please find a way to pick out the positive impact this should have on you and never allow its full content make you who you are. It is a piece everywherenigeria decided to put up and its very purpose is to help us channel our energies to the real thing one should be looking for in a man. 1. The Unmarried Man - This may seem obvious, but it is very necessary to mention. There are too many women attempting have relationships with married men. Married men are not a candidate for single women todate… period! This includes married men who are separated (legally or otherwise). They are still married and not available todate. Married people have their own families and concerns to deal with. That being said, the unmarried man, who is devoted to the things of God, is the type of man you should be interested in dating. (1 Corinthians 7:32-35). 7 types of men every woman should date 2. The Kingdom Seeker - A man who is seeking God’s Will for His life will, not only seek out awoman to date, but will seek out his wife. The Bible says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). Ladies, you should be an asset; the thing that is *added* to him as he is FIRST seeking the kingdom of God. This is why I say, run as fast as you can for Jesus and the one who can keep up might be the one. 3. The Real Man - No, I am not talking about machismo behavior (all the shoulders back, chest out, fist curling gestures and such)… Real men don’t need all of that. That’s what grown-boys do to get awoman’s attention. Real men “pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace” (2. Timothy 2:22). Real men regard women as a gift that is not to be taken advantage of; they see her as priceless and desire to cling to her (Matthew 19:5). A real man’s character shows his high regard for a woman long before the dating stage. 4. The Learner - A man who is in continual pursuit of knowledge is better equipped to handle life and execute on goals / plans. He should read, seek counsel, study continuously, etc… The Bible says, “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed”( Proverbs 15:22). Also, “My people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). A man who is willing to learn and gain knowledge in life should also be more open to gaining knowledge about love and having successful relationships. 5. The Multiplier - A man shouldn’t just balance you out, he should constantly add to you. His presence should multiply your potential. He should add to the beauty of who you are and never take away from anything that is precious about you. ( “Relationship Coaching: Do you multiply or divide?”) The Bible says, “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.’” (1 Corinthians 15:33). The man youdate should never cause you to compromise good morals. He should seek ways to support you in your values. His values should complement yours. 6. The Servant – A man who has demonstrated a pattern of submitting to authorities in his life (leadership, pastors, parents, etc…) will also have an understanding of how to submit to God as the head of his life and, subsequently, how to commit to his future wife. The Bible says, “Obey your leaders and submit to them… Let them do this with joy and not with groaning,” (Hebrews 13:17). His positive attitude towards authority figures is an indication of his servant’s heart and also provides a picture of how he can be in a dating relationship. 7. The Consistent Man - Emotions rise and fall, but character shows with consistency. The consistent man is not in a rush because he does not have poor intentions, nor is he interested in manipulating a woman to be led by her emotions (“ Warning: Don’t Follow Your Heart”). He will take his time to get to know you and will allow you to get to know him as well. The Bible says, “Whoever walks in integrity will be delivered, but he who is crooked in his ways will suddenly fall.” (Proverbs 28:18). Over time, the consistent man’s good character will still stand, while the man with bad intentions will also come to light. Remember, the purpose of dating is to get to know a person. If you take your time to get to know him, you will be able to find out if he is the type of man you should date. informationnigeria.org/2012/09/7-types-of-men-every-woman-should-date.html

By Ben Efe, London Nigeria’s 82.50kg power-lifter, Loveline Obiji proved that wining gold could be so lovely, after she outclassed her opponents to increase Nigeria’s medal tally here at the London 2012 Paralympics. Team Nigeria’s gold spinning machine was temporarily off the mark after a bright start. But Obiji put behind all the pressure associated with the controversial loss by compatriot, Folashade Olufemiayo on Tuesday and made a spectacle at the London Excel Centre. She heaved 145kg in her second attempt and for her, it was mission accomplished. “After establishing that lead, I knew that the gold was mine. I told God that I wanted gold and he gave it to me. I wasn’t under any pressure because I knew who was behind me. “Now that the work has been done I will return home and prepare for the 2016 Paralympics,” said the Imo State-born athlete who is making her Paralympics debut. Randa Mahmood of Egypt took the silver at 140kg, while China’s Xu Yanmei won bronze with 129kg. The power-lifting events continue today with the men taking their turn in the hunt for medals. Nigerian officials are hopeful that Nigeria will maintain its number one position on the power- lifting medals table. The country has won five gold, five silver and one bronze. vanguardngr.com/2012/09/obiji-lifts-gold-no-5-for-nigeria/

"""l I am a graduate and currently serving in Kaduna. I could have runced it, but I needed somewhere to clear my head and forget about my ugly encounter. Here is my story. I happened to have a married man as a contact on my BBM. He had been asking me out for over six months and I refused to date him. As time went on, he invited me clubbing with him when his wife was outside the country, and I went with him all night. We spent most of the night at Swe bar, Lagos. I also met his clique of friends, married as well with their various mistresses. We had ‘mad’ fun. After all the clubbing and drinking, he lodged me in a hotel somewhere in Obalende. I felt sort of safe with him. We did not have sex, but he made sweet love to me and touched me in places I had never ever imagined. He kissed me passionately but guess what? He did not have sex with me. We did all sorts but there was no penetration. So, to an extent, I trusted he was a good person to be around with. I did not know that it was all part of the plan. He gave me N10,000 and put me in a cab to go home the next morning. We kept talking and chatting and sending naked pictures to each other and he told me naughty things of how he wanted to whisper things in my ear, I blushed. We didn’t see for two weeks and that was because his wife just came back from Turkey. One faithful evening, he pinged me that he was organising a beach party/ boat cruise and that he would love for me to be his date and that he wanted to open a BBM chat, as a medium for his friends and my friends to interact. I was excited about it, I just wanted to have fun. I was able to get five of my very hot friends. The BBM group opened and we got chatting. I also realise that majority of them were married and working in reputable firms. It was fun and we didn’t mind if they were married, we just wanted to have fun, as well as some other girls apart from my friends in the group. We chatted exclusively, sent pictures to the BBM group to introduce ourselves, and we had opened group conversations pending the beach party. And as excited as we were, we went shopping for nice sexy beach wears. The D-day finally came, we all assembled at the Lagos Island Boat Club. I was wowed because it was a high class party. We were cruising in a boat loaded with goodies drinks and hot babes, and as well ‘MARRIED MEN’. I did not care, I just said in my mind that I would not roll with married men anymore after this, that for now, all I wanted to do was to catch some fun. After all, I wasn’t paying bills. We got there, it was a private beach resort. Most of the beach facilities I got to see there were owned by multinational companies. We got out of the boat, and went to where we were partying. It was a duplex made with wood. It was a very nice setting. I felt comfortable because it even had a fence around it separating it from other beach houses around. So, there was privacy and of course bouncers (heavy looking guys) guarding the place. I said to myself, this must be heaven, I must be dreaming. Anyways, we felt free with each other because we had been chatting. It was 5:30pm and the party just started. We had drinks flowing from the private bar tender which happens to be owned by one of the men in the group. Reality struck when I realised that I was feeling dizzy and feeling really funny and light headed. Not only me, but other girls around me too noticed there was something strange about it. I was also feeling Hot as hell! I had been drugged. They monitored us and when they knew the drug had really gone deep into our system, they moved us up into the main beach house. I could still see faces, but was too weak and Hot to react. Mr B, the man who took me clubbing, carried me in his hands like a sacrifice and put me down on the floor just as other men also did with their girls. We were eight in numbers; 8 girls, 8 guys, and they all stripped us down and had sex with us. I enjoyed it a bit because I was Hot. It was a mixed feeling because I cried, I moaned, but I did not know how many times he came into me. He pounded me hard. I was dizzy, but he grabbed me with force. All I could notice was the wedding ring on his finger. I thought of how wicked and miserable some married can be. How inhuman and heartless they could be. All of them took turns in switching partners and slept with all of us. I passed out. That was the last thing I could remember. I felt water poured on me. I noticed all the other girls around me too were half naked and some stark naked. We spent the night at the beach, but the men were no where to be found. I looked round me and all I could see was packs of used condoms. I ran to pick my cloths and possibly raise an alarm. I got dressed, found my phone with an envelope. It contained N16,000 and a note asking us to take N2000 each for transport. Tears of anger and rage filled my eyes and the girls around me as well. “We were drugged and used like tissue paper. I grabbed my phone and noticed a ping came in. I checked my phone and I noticed the BBM group had been deleted, and a message via BBM from MR B came in. He threatened me that if I say a word to anyone, I would regret it. I told him he was a bastard, and he said try it. A picture came in, several pictures. In fact, they were pictures of us being naked on the floor. Pictures of the humiliating us but they blurred the faces of the men. In total, I got 20 pictures. I was not myself for a month. I went back to school, I had no one to talk to. The rest of the semester was hell for me. My CGPA dropped drastically. It was the worst out of the worst result I ever had. Till today, my friends and I have not discussed this with anyone, but all I could do when I heard of Cynthia’s story was to narrate my own ordeal anonymously and spread the news, the word, and pray they (ladies who do runs) see it and changed their ways, the story it much,I pray the lord shield wiill never depart from u gurl in jesus name |
